VIOLET (Facebook) sind eine junge Band aus Ludwigsburg. Den ersten Kontakt hatten wir von ‚metal-heads.de‘ beim Formosa Bierfest 2023 (Bericht). Dort überzeugten sie bereits mit ihrem 80’er Jahre-Poprock-Sound. Bereits das Debüt „Illusions“ machte richtig Laune und Lust auf mehr. Auf dem Debüt hat mir natürlich so ein Song wie „Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)“ sehr gut gefallen, der mehr so in eine flotte fetzige Richtung geht. Jetzt steht die Veröffentlichung des Nachfolgers „Mysteria“ kurz bevor und ich bin gespannt, wie VIOLET sich entwickelt haben.

VIOLET verstehen sich darauf einen homogenen Sound zu generieren, der den typischen keybordlastigen Popsound mit einer schönen Portion rockiger Gitarrensounds vereint. Die Mitglieder der Band sind sehr jung und haben die Zeit der 80’er Jahre gar nicht selbst erlebt und schaffen es doch das Feeling dieser unbeschwerten und bunten Zeit perfekt einzufangen. Und dafür haben sie sich auf dem neuen Album auch wieder viel einfallen lassen. Ein Merkmal der Band ist auch, dass sie nicht gerade für schnelle Nummern zu haben sind. Damit meine ich nicht das Tempo, sondern die Spielzeiten der Songs, die häufig die Vier-Minuten-Marke locker überschreiten. Die erfordert natürlich mehr Geschick und Ideenreichtum beim Songwriting. Denn die Songs sollen eingängig und nicht zu verschachtelt wirken, aber dürfen dann eben auch nicht mit Monotonie Langeweile hervorrufen.

Die Single „Bad Dream“ zeigt, dass sie diese Aufgabe mit Bravour gemeistert haben. Der Song erzählt die Geschichte über fünf Minuten, die so vollgepackt sind mit tollen Hooks und anderen stimmungsvollen Ideen, dass die Zeit wie im Fluge vergeht. Das gesangliche Duett mit Jamie und Manuel gefällt mir ebenfalls richtig gut. Die Gitarre klingt ebenfalls bezaubernd und glänzt vor allem bei den Solos. Dies ist ein Song der Kategorie, der mich direkt dazu gezwungen hat mehrmals die Repeat-Taste zu drücken. Mehr 80’er-Feeling geht nicht! Dafür sorgt auch das geil gemachte Video mit den super authentischen Requisiten, vom Auto, über das Styling bis hin zu den Klamotten stimmt hier einfach alles! Mega!

VIOLET musizieren mit viel Gefühl und einem guten Gespür für tolle Momente. Es ist auch gerade diese angenehme Unaufdringlichkeit, welche dafür verantwortlich ist, dass man sich das ganze Album wunderbar mehrmals in Dauerschleife anhören kann. Was ich ebenfalls besonders an ihrem Sound schätze ist die stellenweise Einbindung des Saxophons. Es ist ein Instrument, dass meiner Meinung nach im Rock und Metal noch viel zu wenig eingesetzt wird. Und hier beweisen VIOLET wieder einmal mehr, dass man das Saxophon wunderbar einfügen kann, um einen Song zu bereichern. Hier geht dann auch ein großes Lob an Saxophonist Andreas Bühl raus. Zieht euch den Song “ Angelina (Talk To Me)“ rein und überzeugt euch selber davon. Auch der Chorus ist wieder einmal Weltklasse!

Die Keys sind ein tragender Baustein des Sounds und es ist der Wahnsinn, was Filip hier für ein 80’er Jahre Synthie-Feuerwerk abfackelt. „That Night“ ist z.B. ein Song, der sehr reichhaltig damit beschenkt wurde. Im Song gibt es einen ausgiebigen Part, in dem der Focus ganz auf den Keys liegt.

Jetzt könnte mal wieder ein Song kommen, der mehr abgeht und auch mal wieder der Gitarre mehr Präsenz gönnt. Der Titeltrack „Mysteria“ erfüllt mir diesen Wunsch und lässt mal ein wenig mehr die Peitsche knallen und der Song bekommt mehr rockige Vibes verpasst. Der Song hat eine stärkere Gewichtung auf die Gitarre und der Bass kommt auch super durch, ist sogar mit einem kleinen Minisolo dabei. Ich finde, dass man insgesamt im Soundkonzept ruhig etwas intensiver mit einer derartigen rockigen Attitüde arbeiten könnte, um einige erfrischende Winde mehr aufkommen zu lassen.

Einfühlsame Balladen waren ebenfalls ein Markenzeichen der 80’er Jahre. Damals waren es Rockbands, die mit ihren gefühlvollen Songs die Herzen der Menschen am meisten berührt haben. In dieser Dekade wurden unzählige Balladenhits geschrieben. Ist doch wohl klar, dass sich VIOLET auch dieser Mission annehmen. Und so findet man auf dem neuen Album gleichermaßen solche Songs, die das Herz auf behutsame Weise berühren und einfangen. Also bitteschön! Hier ist „Calling For You“.

Fazit

Wer auf die 80’er Jahre Poprocksounds steht, der kommt an dem Album „Mysteria“ von VIOLET nicht vorbei. Mit einem guten Gespür für tolle Harmonien und mit einem starken Verständnis für das Feeling der 80’er Jahre setzen sie den Hörer in eine Zeitmaschine und katapultieren ihn in diese Zeit, in der man mit den Songs von VIOLET wunderbar verweilen kann. Absolut authentische Musik von VIOLET, welche mit einer starken kreativen Ader das Feeling für die 80’er Jahre zu 100 % rüberbringen.

There they already impressed us with their 80’s pop rock sound. Their debut „Illusions“ really put us in a good mood and made us want more. Of course, I really liked a song like „Do Ya Do Ya (Wanna Please Me)“ on the debut, which goes in a more upbeat, groovy direction. Now the release of the follow-up „Mysteria“ is imminent and I’m curious to see how VIOLET have developed.

VIOLET know how to generate a homogeneous sound that combines the typical keyboard-heavy pop sound with a nice portion of rocking guitar sounds. The members of the band are very young and didn’t even experience the 80’s themselves, but still manage to capture the feeling of this carefree and colorful time perfectly. And they have once again come up with a lot of ideas for the new album. One of the band’s characteristics is that they are not particularly fond of short songs. The songs often easily exceed the four-minute mark. Of course, this requires more skill and inventiveness in songwriting. After all, the songs should be catchy and not too convoluted, but they shouldn’t cause boredom with monotony either.

The single „Bad Dream“ shows that they have mastered this task with flying colors. The song tells the story over five minutes, which are so packed with great hooks and other atmospheric ideas that the time flies by.I also like the vocal duet with Jamie and Manuel very much and I also find the guitar enchanting, especially in the solos.This is the kind of song that made me press the repeat button several times. More 80’s feeling is not possible! This is also ensured by the great video with the cool authentic props, from the car to the styling to the clothes, everything is just right here! Mega!

VIOLET make music with a lot of feeling and a good sense for great moments. It is precisely this pleasant unobtrusiveness that is responsible for the fact that you can listen to the whole album several times in a continuous loop. What I also particularly appreciate about their sound is the inclusion of the saxophone in places. It’s an instrument that, in my opinion, is still used far too little in rock and metal. And here VIOLET prove once again that the saxophone can be used wonderfully to enrich a song. A big compliment goes out to saxophonist Andreas Bühl. Check out the song „Angelina (Talk To Me)“ and see for yourself. The chorus is also world class once again!

The keys are a fundamental element of the sound and it’s amazing what kind of 80s synth fireworks Filip unleashes here. “That Night”, for example, is a song that is very richly endowed with them. There is an extensive part in the song in which the focus is entirely on the keys.

Now there could be another song that lets it rip. The title track “Mysteria” fulfills this wish and lets the whip crack a little more and gives the song more rock vibes. The song has a stronger emphasis on the guitar and the bass really comes through, even with a little mini-solo. I think that the overall sound concept could work a little more intensively with this kind of rock attitude to create a few more refreshing winds.

Heartfelt ballads were also a trademark of the 80s. Back then, it was rock bands that touched people’s hearts the most with their soulful songs. Countless ballad hits were written in this decade. It goes without saying that VIOLET also took on this mission. And so the new album contains songs that touch and capture the heart in a tender way. So there you go! Here is “Calling For You”.

Conclusion

If you like 80’s pop rock sounds, you can’t miss the album “Mysteria” by VIOLET. With a good feeling for great harmonies and a deep appreciation for the feeling of the 80’s, they put the listener in a time machine and catapult him into this time, in which you can wonderfully linger with fantastic songs. Absolutely authentic music from VIOLET, who convey the feeling for the 80’s 100% with their creative skills.

SNAKEBITE (Facebook/Homepage) haben es vollbracht. Es hat zwar etwas länger gedauert, denn das letzte Album „Rise Of The Snake“ erschien 2018. Nun sind sie mit dem neuen Album „Cobra Crew“ wieder voll auf Beutezug. SNAKEBITE schlängelt sich ja schon ne Weile durch die Musikwelt und hat sich mit ihrer äußerst sympathischen Art und Musik eine treue Fanschar erspielt. Und genau diese sind auch mitverantwortlich dafür, dass das Album überhaupt produziert werden konnte, denn das neue Album wurde mittels einer Crowdfunding Aktion erst ermöglicht. Und mit dem Ergebnis kann sich wohl jeder glücklich schätzen.

SNAKEBITE reiten voll auf der 80’er Welle. Und dies tun sie so vortrefflich wie ich damals bei dem Computerspiel „California Games“ mit dem Surfbrett die Welle gemeistert habe. Viele jüngere Leser werden nun die Stirn runzeln und sich fragen, worüber ich da schreibe, aber die etwas ältere Generation wird wissen, wovon ich hier rede. Tatsächlich versetzt mich der Opener „Blow It Up“ mit seinen anfänglichen Synthies sofort gedanklich einige Jahrzehnte zurück und gibt mir volle Kanne geile 80’er Jahre Vibes. Dies sorgt wiederum direkt für ein Grinsen im Gesicht und erfüllt mein Gemüt mit glückseligen Gefühlen. Mit einem kleinen fetzigen Solo geht es dann weiter, bevor der Song im gemäßigten Tempo mit feinem Riffing, heroischem Refrain und einem standesgemäßen Solo den Hörer schon mal richtig gut aufwärmt. Das ist auch dringend nötig, denn mit

„Stormriders“

tritt man das Gaspedal kräftig durch und macht ordentlich Lärm. Mit so einem Burn Out ist man bei mir immer an der richtigen Adresse und ich steige gerne ein, um die stürmische Fahrt zu genießen. Die Gitarren fetzen, die Drums prügeln und der melodisch treibende Gesang mit dem genialen mehrstimmigen Chorus treibt den Song massiv voran. Alles ist an seinem Platz und einwandfrei aufeinander abgestimmt.

Unbeschwert

Es sind die kleinen, aber feinen Details, welche den grundsätzlich einfachen eingängigen Sound der 80’er Jahre schön aufpeppen. In Sachen Songwriting hat man sich was einfallen lassen. SNAKEBITE spielen mit unterschiedlichen Möglichkeiten, um den Songs einen individuellen Style zu geben. Man kann die Songs natürlich auch fantastisch nebenbei hören und ne geile Party darauf abfeiern, aber wenn man auch mal genauer hinhört, so fallen einem hier und da auch die kleinen feinen Details in den Songs auf. Die feinen Gitarrenarbeit bringt spannungsgeladene Energie und der Drummer sorgt zusätzlich für eine lebendige Dynamik im Sound. Darüber hinaus wissen die Vocals echt gut zu gefallen. Da laden nicht nur die Refrains zum mitsingen ein.

Viel Tiefgang darf man bei den Lyrics natürlich nicht erwarten. Aber das ist auch gar nicht die Mission von SNAKEBITE. Sie wollen unbeschwerte Musik rüberbringen und ein positives Lebensgefühl vermitteln. Das ist ihnen mehr als gelungen und in den aktuellen Zeiten auch mehr als wichtig, denn man muss auch mal abschalten und den ganzen Mist um einen herum vergessen können. Die Songs von SNAKEBITE laden herzlich dazu ein.

Fazit

Das musikalische Gift von SNAKEBITE ist ganz und gar nicht toxisch, sondern einfach die pure Ladung guter Laune und Spaß. Mit Witz und Charme injizieren sie die lässig coole Essenz der 80’er und bieten den Menschen ein unbeschwertes musikalisches Vergnügen. Also Platte auflegen und ab geht die Party!

SNAKEBITE (Facebook/Homepage) have done it. Although it took a little longer, as their last album „Rise Of The Snake“ was released in 2018, they are now back on the prowl with their new album „Cobra Crew“. SNAKEBITE have been meandering through the music world for a while now and have built up a loyal fan base with their extremely likeable charisma and great music. And the fans are also responsible for the fact that the album could be produced at all, because the new album was made possible by a crowdfunding campaign. And everyone can be lucky with the result.

SNAKEBITE are riding the 80s wave. And they do this as excellently as I mastered backthen the wave with my surfboard in the computer game „California Games“. Many younger readers will now frown and wonder what I’m writing about, but the slightly older generation will know what I’m talking about here. In fact, the opening track „Blow It Up“ with its initial synths immediately takes me back a few decades in my mind and gives me full-on 80s vibes. This in turn immediately puts a grin on my face and fills my mind with blissful feelings. The song continues with a groovy little solo before warming the listener up well at a moderate tempo with fine riffing, a heroic chorus and a solo befitting its status. That’s good, because with

„Stormriders“

they treat the pedal to the metal. With a burn-out like this, you’re always in the right place with me and I’m happy to get in and enjoy the stormy ride. The guitars shred, the drums pound and the melodic, driving vocals with the ingenious polyphonic chorus drive the song forward massively. Everything is in its place and perfectly coordinated.

Lighthearted

It’s the small but subtle details that spice up the basically simple, catchy sound of the 80s. In terms of songwriting, they have come up with something. SNAKEBITE play with different possibilities to give the songs an individual style. Of course, you can listen to the songs on the side and have a great party, but if you listen more closely, you’ll notice the little details in the songs here and there. The fine guitar work brings exciting energy and the drummer adds a lively dynamic to the sound. The vocals are also really good. But it’s not just the choruses that invite you to sing along.

Of course, you can’t expect much lyrical depth in the lyrics. That’s not the mission of SNAKEBITE. They want to deliver light-hearted music and convey a positive attitude towards life. They have more than succeeded in this and in the current times it is more than important, because you have to be able to switch off and forget all the crap around you. The songs by SNAKEBITE invite you to do just that.

Conclusion

The musical poison of SNAKEBITE is not toxic at all, but simply the pure essence of fun and lust for life. With humor and charm, they inject the casual cool spirit of the 80’s and offer people a carefree musical pleasure. So put on the record and let the party begin!
