Reunion

Schon länger wurde von den Fans eine Reunion herbei gesehnt, denn Sänger John Haughm tätigte in einem Interview bereits Äußerungen, dass man auf dem besten Wege sei, sich wieder zu versöhnen. Und der Zeitpunkt scheint nun gekommen, dass besonders Sänger John Haughm und Gitarrist Don Anderson ihren alten Zwist beilegen konnten.

Reunion Show auf dem Prophecy Fest

Der eigentliche Hammer ist aber, dass die erste und exklusive Show der Band in Deutschland statt finden wird! Und zwar auf dem Prophecy Fest in der Balver Höhle. So werden Agalloch das ohnehin schon ansehnliche Lineup vervollständigen. Das Prophecy Fest findet statt vom 07.09. – 09.09. und die Tickets dazu bekommt ihr hier KLICK.

Ein paar kritische Töne

Ich glaube, ich habe selten so viele positive Kommentare gesehen in Richtung „Your Music changed my live…“. Und auch ich persönlich freue mich auf der einen Seite riesig, das die Band wieder zusammen kommt. Die sind, musikalisch gesehen, einfach großartig und ich kenne ich der Spielart eigentlich nichts, was an Agalloch heran reicht. Trotzdem darf man nicht außer Acht lassen, wieso die Band sich unter anderem aufgelöst hat. Hier ein Ausschnitt eines Interviews aus 2020 mit Gitarrist Don Anderson im Decibel Magazine.

I am really happy to say that, yes, things have changed for the better. [Former Agalloch frontman] John [Haughm] and I remained in contact all through the three years following the breakup, but it was all business. Gradually, those emails became more casual and we were both moving towards finally meeting and hashing things out — essentially doing away with the weight that had been burdening our shoulders for years. I carried a great deal of bitterness and hurt during those years and eventually I got tired of it. I know John was tired of it, too. Then he made that anti-Semitic comment on Facebook that I, Jason, and Aesop condemned. We still condemn it. But, I think it’s critical that our culture does more than “call out” bad behavior, but tries to call someone in and discuss things like this. The first person I emailed after our statement condemning the comment was John. John’s comment accelerated our meeting and we not only talked about the breakup, but we talked about his comment. We discussed the ways it was harmful. I’m not defending him in this regard, but having been close friends with him for over twenty years and this being the first time I had ever seen him say anything anti-Semitic, I felt it necessary to talk with him and reach an understanding. I know John regrets the comment. Through all this I’ve learned a lot about forgiveness and compassion, and I think that goes for John as well.

Fazit

Schlagzeuger Aesop Dekker ist bei der Wiedervereinigung nicht mehr dabei und wird durch Hunter Ginn ersetzt. Ob er John Haughm die antisemitische Aussage auf Facebook nicht verzeihen kann, oder das ganze andere Gründe hat, bleibt natürlich Spekulation. Man kann nur hoffen, dass Haughm sich selbst reflektiert hat und dieser Aussetzer eine einmaliger war. So bleibt, bei aller Freude, zumindest mal ein sehr bitterer Beigeschmack.
