DARK OATH (Facebook/Homepage) kommen aus Portugal und haben 2016 ihr Debütalbum „When Fire Engulfs The Earth“ veröffentlicht. Dort hatten sie sich mit den nordischen Mythen beschäftigt, insbesondere mit der apokalyptischen Geschichte von Ragnarök. Das Album war und ist immer noch ein echter Knaller. Nun wendet sich das neue Album „Ages Of Man“ der griechischen Mythologie zu. Es geht um den Aufstieg und Fall der Menschheit, basierend auf den Erzählungen vom Dichter Hesiod. Dessen Erzählungen gründen auf verschiedenen Zeitalter, und zwar das Goldene, Silberne, Bronzene, Heroische und Eiserne.

„Gold I (Dawn Of Time)“ war die erste Singleauskopplung. Ein langweilige Geschichtssunde hat die Band jedenfalls erwartungsgemäß nicht zu bieten. Sängerin Sara Leitão haut die Lyrics durchweg mit aller Gewalt raus, so dass keine cleanen Vocals auf diesem Album zu finden sind. Hier gibt es die volle Ladung aggressive Screams! Dementsprechend macht der Sound auch keine Kompromisse und bietet harten Stoff. DARK OATH haben dazu leichte folkloristische Einschläge, wovon man sich hier ab Minute 02:20 überzeugen kann, wo der Song sich mal kurz ein wenig zurücknimmt. In der Kombination mit den orchestralen Zutaten entstehen natürlich epische Momente.

Veränderungen zum Debüt

Im Vergleich zum genialen Debüt sind Veränderungen festzustellen. Dort waren die Spielzeiten üppiger, besonders bei den zwei monumentalen Songs „Last Of Orus“ und „Brothers Fall“. Und sonst ging kein Song unter fünf Minuten. Die Spielzeiten sind auf „Ages Of Man“ kürzer geworden und bewegen sich fast alle im Bereich zwischen vier und fünf Minuten.

Auch das Soundkonzept hat sich verändert. Nachdem ich nun das ganze Album „Ages If Man“ mehrmals gehört habe, würde ich mal sagen, dass die ersten beiden Singles den neuen Sound sehr gut repräsentieren. Es ist bombastischer geworden. Ein wilder Sturm rollt über den Hörer hinweg. Das macht zwar richtig Eindruck, aber auf der gesamten Albumdistanz hatte ich das Gefühl, als ob der Sound dann nicht doch an manchen Stellen etwas überladen ist. Ich hätte mir hier und da einen differenzierten feineren Sound gewünscht, der z.B. mehr (unterschiedliche) folkische Elemente eingebunden hätte. Das hätte der Atmosphäre und dem individuellen Erkennungswert einzelner Songs meiner Meinung nach sicherlich gut getan.

Ein heftiger Sturm

Wer im Vergleich das Album „When Fire Engulfs The Earth“ hört, wird erkennen, dass dort das ganze Gitarrenspiel anders und variabler zum Ausdruck kommt. Das Gitarrenspiel ist auf dem Debüt deutlich verspielter. Ich konnte es differenzierter wahrnehmen, was auch daran lag, dass die Gitarren präsenter waren. Auf dem neuen Album finden sich auch keine Gitarrensolos. DARK OATH legen nun mehr Wert auf die Drums und die orchestralen Synhties, die sehr dominant und wuchtig auftreten. Darüber fegt Sängerin Sara Leitão mit ihren vernichtenden Screams hinweg.

In diesem Sturm gerät das Gitarrenspiel für mich zu sehr in den Hintergrund. Der Sound ist dadurch zwar opulenter, aber auch gleichförmiger geworden, so dass mir die Unterscheidung verschiedener Songs schwerfällt. Ich habe mich beim Hören ab und zu gefragt, bei welchem Song ich eigentlich gerade bin. Eine Unterscheidung der verschiedenen Zeitalter hätte sich vielleicht auch musikalischer deutlicher niederschlagen können.

Der Sound auf dem neuen Album ist zweifellos imponierend, nur eben etwas anders ausgelegt. Der letzte Song „Iron-Through The Veil Of Night“ zeigt dann eine interessante Facette, die ich sehr begrüßt habe. Gastsänger Paolo Rossi von ‚Fleshgod Apocalypse“ sorgt hier im Duett mit Sängerin Sara für einen super starken Chorus. Dies ist ein besonderes Element, dass einem sofort auffällt und hängenbleibt. Für mich gehört dieser Song zu den besten auf diesem Album.

Fazit

Auf dem neuen Album „Ages Of Man“ entfesseln DARK OATH einen wahren Sturm, der ohne Frage überwältigend ist. Der Sound und die Produktion sind eine Wucht. Das Debüt gefällt mir persönlich von seiner Art her zwar immer noch besser, aber trotzdem ist „Ages Of Man“ sehr beeindruckend geworden und hat eine gute Bewertung mehr als verdient. DARK OATH sind eine verdammt starke Band und ich würde mir wünschen nicht wieder sieben Jahre auf das nächste Album warten zu müssen.

DARK OATH (Facebook/Homepage) are from Portugal and released their debut album „When Fire Engulfs The Earth“ in 2016. On it, they explored Norse myths, in particular the apocalyptic story of Ragnarök. The album was and still is a real hit. Now the new album „Ages Of Man“ turns to Greek mythology. It is about the rise and fall of mankind, based on the stories of the poet Hesiod. His stories are based on different ages, namely the Golden, Silver, Bronze, Heroic and Iron Ages.

„Gold I (Dawn Of Time)“ was the first single release. The band certainly doesn’t have a cozy history lesson to offer. Singer Sara Leitão belts out the lyrics with brute force. There are no clean vocals to be found on this album. There are only aggressive screams here! Accordingly, DARK OATH makes no compromises and offers hard stuff. They also have slight folk influences, which you can hear for yourself from minute 02:20, where the song takes a step back for a moment. In combination with the orchestral ingredients, epic moments naturally arise.

Changes compared to the debut

Compared to the brilliant debut, there have been some changes. There, the playing times were longer, especially on the two monumental songs „Last Of Orus“ and „Brothers Fall“. And no other song was under five minutes. On „Ages Of Man“ the playing times have become shorter and are almost all between four and five minutes.

The sound has changed. After listening to the whole album „Ages If Man“ several times now, I would say that the first two singles represent the new sound very well. It has become more bombastic. A wild storm rolls over the listener. That makes a good impression, but over the whole distance I had the impression that the sound was a bit overloaded in some places. I would have liked a more differentiated, finer sound here and there, which would have incorporated more (different) folk elements, for example. That would certainly have been good for the atmosphere and the individual recognition value of individual songs.

A violent storm

If you listen to the album „When Fire Engulfs The Earth“ in comparison, you will recognize that the whole guitar playing is expressed differently and more variably there. The guitar playing on the debut is more playful. I could perceive it in a more differentiated way, which was also due to the fact that the guitars were more present. There are no guitar solos on the new album. DARK OATH now place more emphasis on the drums and the orchestral sounds, which are very dominant and powerful. Singer Sara Leitão sweeps over them with her devastating screams.

In this storm, the guitar playing takes too much of a back seat for me. The sound has become more opulent as a result, but also more uniform, so that I find it difficult to distinguish between different songs. When I listened to the album several times, I asked myself from time to time which song I was actually listening to. A differentiation between the eras could perhaps have been reflected more clearly in the music.

These are my personal impressions and assessments. „Ages Of Man“ is not a bad album at all, of course. The sound on the new album is impressive, just different from the debut. The last song „Iron-Through The Veil Of Night“ shows an interesting facet, which I very much welcomed. Guest vocalist Paolo Rossi from ‚Fleshgod Apocalypse“ provides a super strong chorus in a duet with singer Sara. This is a special element that immediately catches your attention and sticks with you. For me, this song is one of the best on this album.

Conclusion

On their new album „Ages Of Man“, DARK OATH unleash a veritable wild storm that is unquestionably overwhelming. The sound and the production are a brutal. Personally, I still like the debut better in terms of its style, but „Ages Of Man“ is still very impressive and deserves a good rating. DARK OATH are a damn strong band and I wish I didn’t have to wait another seven years for the next album.

Nachdem ich nun einige Erfahrungen als Redakteur und leidenschaftlicher Rock- und Metalfan sammeln konnte, muss ich feststellen, dass der Underground lebt! Und zwar lebendiger und heißer als man vielleicht meinen könnte. Und lasst Euch eines gesagt sein: Der Rock- und Metalunderground ist herausragend und braucht sich vor den bekannten Bands überhaupt nicht verstecken. Ganz im Gegenteil! Die Qualität und die Kreativität der Bands sind bemerkenswert. Also beschäftigt Euch bitte auch mit Bands, über die man nicht in jeder bekannten Zeitschrift stolpert. Denn dort kann man wahre Schätze entdecken!

AGES OF MAN

ist ein Projekt des französischen Musikers Fab Tedaldi (Facebook). Bisher war er sehr zufrieden mit seiner Rolle als Gitarrist in den Bands RAPTOR KING (Facebook) und ELVENLINE (Facebook). Doch nun hat der Musiker ein eigenes Projekt gegründet, um sich mit diesem selbst zu verwirklichen. AGES OF MAN (Facebook) würde ich in den modernen Metal einordnen. Es wird zum einen verdammt hart geprügelt und zum anderen mit richtig viel Gefühl imponiert. So ist „Into The Fear“ ein herausragender Track, bei dem ich nicht wüsste, was man noch besser machen soll. Alles passt perfekt zusammen und technisch hochwertig dargeboten. Der Chorus ist darüber hinaus absolut hammermäßig. Mir geht dieser Song gar nicht mehr aus dem Kopf.

Die Texte sind von all diesen Themen inspiriert: Umwelt, kognitive Dissonanz; alles gemischt mit den Geschichten der verschiedenen Epochen. Und es ist bereits eine zweite Single veröffentlicht worden.

„Denial“ geht agressiver und härter zu Werke und wirkt dabei insgesamt um einiges düsterer als die erste Single. Ein sehr eindringlicher Song, der aufzeigt, wo es zur Zeit mit der Menschheit hingeht, nämlich steil bergab in den dunklen Abgrund. Auch wenn AGES OF MAN ein neues Projekt sind, so muss man die handwerklich hochwertige Kunst anerkennen, mit der diese Songs in Szene gesetzt werden. Das sind zwei fabelhafte Songs, die super funktionieren. Ich verspreche mir viel von diesem Projekt und hoffe, dass es eine Zukunft hat.

DAMMIET GOLDIE

sind eine kanadische Band und das blöde daran ist, dass ihr Heimatland weit weg ist und wir so schnell wohl kaum in den Genuß eines Konzerts kommen dürften. Dabei wäre das für mich ein Pflichttermin, denn die Single „Bad Human“ macht voll Bock. Diese Mischung aus hartem Metal und modernem handfesten Rock von DAMMIET GOLDIE gehen richtig ab und vereinen gekonnt verschiedene Genres. Das ist eine verfickt geile Mischung, die mich voll mitreißt. Bitte mehr davon! Hat die noch keiner unter Vertrag? Na dann mal zackig was klar machen!

Rascal

kommen aus Polen. Sie zünden ein musikalisches Feuerwerk in einem Metal-Genre, was so ein wenig in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Der Song „Trapped Within The Lightning“ ist ein verdammt geiles Speed Metal Feuerwerk! Ich habe schon lange nicht mehr einen so geilen Song in diesem Genre gehört. Es ist der pure Wahnsinn! Vollgas von Anfang an. Da sprühen sofort die Funken. Aber es kommt noch mehr… RASCAL fackeln ein heißes Feuer ab. Die Gitarren sind ein wahres Highlight. Die treibenden Riffs sind eine Sache, aber die fucking awesome Leads und die geilen Solos sind noch mal eine andere Sache. Denn diese sind grandios eingebunden und fantastisch gespielt. „Trapped Within The Lightning“ ist ein perfekter Song, der euch einfach total umhauen wird. Versprochen!

Now that I could gain some experience as an editor and passionate rock and metal fan, I have to state that the underground is alive! And more alive and hot than you might think. And let me tell you one thing: The underground metal scene is outstanding and doesn’t need to hide from the well-known bands at all. Quite the opposite! The quality and creativity of the bands is more than remarkable. So please also deal with bands that you don’t stumble across in every known magazine. Because there you can discover real gems!

AGES OF MAN

is a project of the French musician Fab Tedaldi (Facebook). Until now he was very satisfied with his role as a guitarist in the bands RAPTOR KING (Facebook) and ELVENLINE (Facebook). But now the musician has founded his own project to realize his visions in another way.

AGES OF MAN (Facebook) I would classify in the modern metal. The single „Into The Fear“ on the one hand beats damn hard and on the other hand impresses with really much emotions. So „Into The Fear“ is an outstanding track, where I wouldn’t know what could have done better. Everything fits together perfectly and technically presented in high quality. The chorus is absolutely awesome on top of that. I can’t get this song out of my head.

The lyrics are inspired by all these themes: Environment, cognitive dissonance; all mixed with the stories of different eras. And a second single has already been released.

„Denial“ is more aggressive and harder and seems altogether a lot darker than the first single. A very haunting song that shows where it goes at the moment with humanity, namely steeply downhill into the dark abyss. Even though AGES OF MAN are a new project, one has to acknowledge the high quality craftsmanship with which these songs are staged. These are two fabulous songs that work great. I expect a lot from this project and hope it has more songs to come.

DAMMIET GOLDIE

are a Canadian band and the worst thing about it is that their home country is far away and we probably won’t be able to enjoy a concert so soon. But this would be a must-see for me, because the single „Bad Human“ is really awesome. This mixture of hard metal and modern rousing rock by DAMMIET GOLDIE really shake my balls and skillfully combines different genres. This is a fucking awesome mixture that pumps me up. Please more of it! Has no label signed them yet? Well, be quick!

Rascal

come from Poland. They ignite a musical firework in a metal genre, which has fallen into oblivion a bit. The song „Trapped Within The Lightning“ is a damn awesome speed metal firework! I haven’t heard such an awesome song in this genre in a long time. It is pure madness! Full throttle from the beginning. Sparks are flying right away. But there is more to come… RASCAL light a hot fire. The guitars are a real highlight. The driving riffs are one thing, but the fucking awesome leads and the awesome solos are yet another outstanding thing. Because these are terrifically integrated and fantastically played. „Trapped Within The Lightning“ is a perfect song that will just totally blow you away. Promised!

ALQEMISTE + DELIRUM’S DAWN + THE PINPRICKS

Heute habe ich bei HÖRET & SEHET Oktober(2) drei tolle, aber völlig unterschiedliche Band für euch. Support the underground!

ALQEMISTE

aus Regensburg hatten wir schon mal bei unserer Serie HÖRET & SEHET im September vorgestellt. ALQEMISTE (Facebook) bieten ein modernes Metalerlebnis mit einer extravaganten Metalcore/Deathcore-Mischung. Mittlerweile sind wieder zwei Singles rausgekommen und die möchten wir euch natürlich nicht vorenthalten. Hinter den Singles steckt ein Konzept und bauen thematisch aufeinander auf.

Grundsätzlich befassen sich die Songs mit der persönlichen Überforderung in der heutigen Zeit. Jede Epoche hat so seine eigenen Herausforderungen und jeder Mensch muss sich unterschiedlichen Anforderungen und Erwartungen stellen. Die Band kommentiert zur Single „Recharge“ folgendes:

Sie haben einen Vollzeitjob, Freundschaften, die Sie pflegen müssen, Hobbys und vielleicht sogar einen Nebenerwerb. Sie wissen, dass Sie sich Zeit für sich selbst nehmen sollten, aber woher sollen Sie diese Zeit nehmen? Diese alltägliche Überforderung bis hin zur totalen Erschöpfung fangen alqemiste in ihrer neuen Single „Recharge“ ein.

Kommentar ALQEMISTE

„Recharge“ ist dunkel und aggressiv. Der Song stampft kompromisslos drauflos und trampelt alles nieder. Aber auch kommt die Unvorhersehbarkeit zum Tragen, die ich schon beim letzten Artikel hervorgehoben habe. Nach 90 Sekunden weichen die Riffs einem Part mit dunklen elektronisch geprägten Part mit einer coolen Rap-Einlage, die an Aggressivität mehr und mehr zunimmt, um dann wieder in purer Wut zu enden.

„I’m Not A Robot“ zeigt wiederum noch eine andere Seite von ALQEMISTE, denn hier duellieren sich die massiven Riffmonster mit einem gefühlvollen eingängigen Chorus. Selbstverständlich dürfen die brutalen Breakdowns nicht fehlen, die mit erbarmungslosen Schlägen für ein gewaltiges Beben sorgen .

Du musst funktionieren, jeden Tag, in jeder Situation und unter allen Umständen. Jeder erwartet von dir, dich aufzuopfern und immer weiterzumachen, auch wenn du am liebsten einfach fliehen würdest.
Wir sind jedoch keine Roboter, sondern lebendige, denkende Wesen. Mit all den Anforderungen
und Verpflichtungen, denen wir gegenüberstehen, kann die Last o erdrückend sein. Wir müssen
einen Ausweg finden.

DELIRIUM’S DAWN

DELIRIUM’S DAWN (Facebook) aus München sind mit ihrer neuen Single „The Vial am Start. Freunde der harten Töne sollten hier auf jeden Fall mal nicht nur ein Ohr, sondern beide riskieren.

Ich würde die Band mal grob in die Kategorie Melodic Death Metal reinpacken, wobei sie gerne auch mit benachbarten Genres liebäugeln. Im Ergebnis gibt es einen erfrischenden Mix, der nicht nur technisch einwandfrei gebrettert wird, sondern dazu brutal mitreißend inszeniert wird. Enge musikalische Korsetts sind nicht so ihr Ding, so dass das Soundkonzept die eine oder andere Überraschung zu bieten hat. Mit diesen modernen Ansätzen hat man bereits auf dem letzten Album „Horizons“ aus 2020 echt coole Tracks abgeliefert und sich damit durchaus eine individuelle Note verschafft.

Die neue Single „The Vial“ wird euch mit Sicherheit ebenfalls überzeugen. Dabei zeigen DELIRIUM’s DAWN sich geradliniger und druckvoller als auf dem letzten Album. Zum einen gibt es bei dieser Single keine cleanen Vocals und „The Vial“ marschiert relativ straight voran, ohne seine Richtung zu verlassen. Das Riffing hört sich wirklich cool an und der Bass wummert kräftig mit. Der Song schaltet lediglich für ein tolles Gitarrensolo einen Gang zurück.

THE PINPRICKS

aus Kiel stechen für lockeren Rock ’n‘ Roll. Ganz unkompliziert knallen sie ihre Songs raus. Auf dem Album „Bait“ (2020) ging der Rock noch in eine „düstere“ Richtung, es klang teilweise etwas dreckiger und atmete auch mal ein wenig den Blues ein, wenn ich so z.B. an „Two-Wheeler-Blues“ denke oder die an das Jimi-Hendrix-Cover „Foxy Lady“ denke. Ich erinnere aber auch an modernere Songs wie „Voices“ mit seinen Hardrock-Vibes. Die Ausstrahlung der neuen Songs hat sich dahingehend etwas gewandelt.

Mittlerweile sind THE PINPRICKS (Facebook) etwas (pop-)punkiger unterwegs, die Stimmung in den Songs ist fröhlicher und versprühen gute Laune. „If You Only Had The Time“ ist dafür ein Paradebeispiel.

Eines hat sich jedenfalls nicht geändert bei THE PINPRICKS. Sie sind immer noch eine Do-It-Yourself-Band! Auch die Videos sind meistens ihrer Phantasie und Kreativität entsprungen. So verhält es sich auch bei der neuen Single „I’m Not Sorry“, die schön frech provozierend rüberkommt und sofort im Kopf hängenbleibt. Und das verrückte bunte Self-Made-Video ist erstklassig geworden und passt hervorragend zu dem Song. Wir dürfen uns übrigens Anfang nächsten Jahres über ein neues Albums freuen.

ALQEMISTE

from Germany we already presented in our series HEAR & SEE in September. ALQEMISTE (Facebook) offer a modern metal experience with an extravagant metalcore/deathcore mixture. In the meantime two singles have been released again and of course we don’t want to withhold them from you. Behind the singles is a concept and build thematically on each other.

Basically, the songs deal with personal overload in today’s world. Every era has its own challenges and every person has to face different demands and expectations. The band comments on the single „Recharge“ as follows:

You have a full-time job, friendships to maintain, hobbies, and maybe even a side hustle. You know you should take time for yourself, but where are you going to find that time? This everyday overload to the point of total exhaustion is captured by ALQEMISTE in their new single „Recharge“.

ALQEMISTE

„Recharge“ is dark and aggressive. The song stomps uncompromisingly on it and chrashes everything down. But also the unpredictability comes into play, which I already emphasized in the last article. After 90 seconds the riffs give way to a part with dark electronically influenced part with a cool rap interlude, which increases in aggressiveness more and more, to then end in pure rage again.

„I’m Not A Robot“ shows another side of ALQEMISTE, because here the massive riff monsters duel with a soulful catchy chorus. Of course, the brutal breakdowns may not be missing, which provide a huge tremor with merciless blows.

You have to function, every day, in every situation and under all circumstances. Everyone expects you to sacrifice yourself and always keep going, even if you would prefer to just run away.
However, we are not robots, but living, thinking beings. With all the demands
and obligations we face, the burden o can be overwhelming. We must
find a way out.

DELIRIUM’S DAWN

from Germany are at the start with their new single „The Vial. Friends of the hard sounds should risk here in any case not only an ear, but both.

I would put DELIRIUM’S DAWN (Facebook) roughly into the category of Melodic Death Metal, although they also like to flirt with neighboring genres. As a result, there is a refreshing mix, which is not only technically flawlessly boarded, but also brutally rousing staged. They don’t like tight musical corsets, so the sound concept has one or the other surprise to offer. With these modern approaches, they have already delivered really cool tracks on the last album „Horizons“ from 2020 and thus definitely provided themselves with an individual touch.

The new single „The Vial“ will surely convince you as well. Thereby DELIRIUM’s DAWN show themselves more straightforward and punchy than on the last album. For one thing, there are no clean vocals on this single and „The Vial“ marches relatively straight ahead without leaving its direction. The riffing sounds really cool and the bass is booming along strongly. The song only shifts down a gear for a great guitar solo.

THE PINPRICKS

from Germany stand for cool Rock ’n‘ Roll. They bang out their rousing songs in an uncomplicated catchy way. On the album „Bait“ (2020) the music was going in a „darker“ direction, it sounded partly a bit dirtier and also breathed in the blues a bit, when I think of „Two-Wheeler Blues“ or the Jimi Hendrix cover „Foxy Lady“ for example. But I also remember more modern songs like „Voices“ with its hard rock vibes. The mood of the new songs has changed a little bit.

In the meantime THE PINPRICKS (Facebook) became a bit more (pop-)punky. The mood in the songs is more cheerful and spreads a good mood. „If You Only Had The Time“ is a good example of this.

One thing hasn’t changed with THE PINPRICKS. They are still a do-it-yourself band! Also the videos are mostly from their imagination and creativity. This is also the case with the new single „I’m Not Sorry“ that comes across nicely cheeky provocative and sticks immediately in the head. And the crazy colorful self-made video is first class and fits perfectly to the song.
