Manchmal lohnt es sich auch als Redakteur von `metal-heads.de´ noch selber auf die Suche zu gehen, obwohl der Postkasten der Redaktion täglich mit Mails überflutet wird. So bin ich auf die junge Band MOMENT OF MADNESS (Facebook, Homepage ) aus der Schweiz gestoßen.
Die Metalcore-Band wurde 2018 durch Stefan Wittwer (Drums), Ivo Gäumann (Leadguitar/ Cleanvocals) und Andrea Leandro Perin (Metalvocals) gegründet. Seit Ende 2018 ergänzt Jonas Brandenberger (Rhythmguitar) die Band.

Sie haben sich richtig reingehängt und bereits 2019 ihr Debütalbum „Clouds“ veröffentlicht. Auch wenn Corona ihnen wie allen anderen Bands einen Strich durch die Rechnung gemacht hat, haben sie sich nicht auf die faule Haut gelegt und beharrlich ihr Ziel weiter verfolgt.
Somit haben sie jüngst ihre EP „Guiding Light“ (VÖ 07.09.2021) auf den Markt gebracht, auf die ich beim Stöbern gestoßen bin. Kurz in die neuen Songs reingehört und der Metalcore hat mich umgehend gecatcht. Da fackel ich nicht lange und schon gibt es ein Review.

Frischer Sound

MOMENT OF MADNESS entfliehen mit ihren Songs dem Standard und heben sich durch einen frischen Sound wohlklingend vom Einheitsbrei ab. Sie setzen eigene Trademarks, indem sie neben brutalen niederschmetternden Parts eine unverblümte Leichtigkeit entstehen lassen. So beginnt der Opener „Far Away“ dementsprechend melodisch mit cleaner Gitarre und klangvollen Leads. Dazu gibt es erst einmal schmeichelnden Gesang, bis es dann zur Sache geht und der Song energisch hervorschnellt. Das Zusammenspiel zwischen den cleanen und extremen Vocals gelingt sehr gut.

Abwechslung

ist bei MOMENT OF MADNESS angesagt. Sie können sowohl noch brachialer zu Werke gehen als auch die gefühlvolle softe Schiene fahren. Der Track „Manipulation“ beispielsweise ist ein brutales dunkles Monster und verfolgt nur ein Ziel: Euch zu packen und zu schütteln! Dabei finde ich es außerordentlich angenehm, dass MOMENT OF MADNESS nicht immer nach Schema F vorgehen und immer die gleichen Wechsel zwischen cleanen und extremen Vocals vollziehen. Bei „Manipulation“ wird komplett auf eine melodische Singstimme verzichtet. Dafür zeigt die Ballade „Eternal Silence“ eindrucksvoll die gefühlvolle Seite von MOMENT OF MADNESS. Gemeinsam mit Gastsängerin Celine Hales gelingt es ihnen eine einfühlsame, aber auch kraftvolle Ballade entstehen zu lassen, die durchaus zu unterhalten weiß.

Und auch die anderen Songs haben einiges zu bieten. Neben den starken zerfetzenden Killerriffs und den pfiffigen Leads verprügelt der Drummer seine Schießbude ohne Rücksicht auf Verluste. Nicht nur beim Gesang weiß man mit Varianz umzugehen. Die Songs bieten instrumental genauso viel Überraschungen und sind echt spannend umgesetzt. Der Titelsong „Guiding Light“ als energischer melodischer Track mit echt coolen Leads fängt Euch mit einem cleanen catchy Refrain ein, um Euch mittendrin dann doch echt böse wegzublasen.

Fazit

MOMENT OF MADNESS machen in ihrer Entwicklung einige gewaltige Schritte nach vorne und präsentieren auf ihrer EP „Guiding Light“ fünf hochwertige Songs, die sich eindrucksvoll im Raum zwischen Gefühl und Härte bewegen. Dabei gelingt es ihnen eigene Akzente zu setzen. Mir jedenfalls haben die Songs super gefallen und freue mich auf die zukünftigen Lieder der Band. Ihr solltet die Band auf jeden Fall checken! Die EP ist mir fette 8 Punkte wert und gehen stark in Richtung der 9. Und ich bin mir sicher, dass sie dort noch landen werden oder sogar noch höher.

Metalcore

Sometimes it is worthwhile even as an editor of `metal-heads.de‘ to search myself for new bands and music, although the mailbox of our webzine is flooded daily with mails. That’s how I came across the young band MOMENT OF MADNESS (Facebook, Homepage ) from Switzerland.
The Metalcore-Band was founded in 2018 by Stefan Wittwer (drums), Ivo Gäumann (lead guitar/ clean vocals) and Andrea Leandro Perin (metal vocals). Since the end of 2018 Jonas Brandenberger completes (Rhythmguitar) the band.

They really put al ot of effort into their music and already released their debut album „Clouds“ in 2019. Even though Corona threw a spanner in their works, like all other bands, they didn’t rest and persistently pursued their goal.
Thus, they have recently released their EP „Guiding Light“, which I came across while browsing. Shortly listened to the new songs and the Metalcore-Style immediately cought me. So I don’t wait long and I started already to write a review of the new

EP „Guiding Light“.

MOMENT OF MADNESS escape from the standard with their songs and stand out from the crowd with a fresh sound. They set their own trademarks by creating a blunt lightness next to brutal devastating parts. The opener „Far Away“ starts accordingly melodic with clean guitar and sonorous leads. In addition there are first flattering vocals, until it goes to the point and the song energetically rushes out. The interplay between the clean and extreme vocals succeeds very well.

Diversity

is the order of the day with MOMENT OF MADNESS. They can sound even more brutal as well as deliver soulful music. The track „Manipulation“ for example is a brutal dark monster and pursues only one goal: to grab you and shake you! Thereby I find it extraordinarily pleasant that MOMENT OF MADNESS don’t always follow a pattern and do the same changes between clean and extreme vocals. With „Manipulation“ a melodic singing voice is completely renounced. Instead, the ballad „Eternal Silence“ impressively shows the soulful side of MOMENT OF MADNESS. Together with guest singer Celine Hales, they succeed in creating a sensitive, but also powerful ballad.

And also the other songs have a lot to offer. In addition to the strong shredding killer riffs and the smart leads, the drummer beats up his drum kit regardless of losses. Not only with the vocals they know how to handle variance. The songs offer just as many surprises instrumentally and are really excitingly implemented. The title track „Guiding Light“ as an energetic melodic track with really cool leads catches you with a clean catchy chorus, only to blow you away really bad in the middle of the song.

Result

MOMENT OF MADNESS make some huge steps forward in their development and present on their EP „Guiding Light“ five high-quality songs, which move impressively in the space between feeling and hardness. In doing so, they succeed in setting their own accents. I, for one, really liked the songs and am looking forward to the band’s future songs. You should definitely check out the band! The EP is worth a fat 8 points to me, going strongly towards the 9. And I’m sure they’ll still end up there, or even higher.
