Das Fazit zum Doppel-Headliner vorweg

Kaum, dass das Konzert vorbei ist, drängeln sich alle Konzertbesucher in den Vorraum, um sich bei den beiden Hauptacts des Abends persönlich am Merchandise-Stand zu bedanken. Und um das Fazit des Abends vorwegzunehmen: Das Bad in der Menge haben sich Sängerin Amy und Drummer Michael von PREYRS sowie Karin und Francisca von FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS auch redlich verdient. Zwei bärenstarke Bands, die jeweils gute anderthalb Stunden alles geben. Also statt langweiligen 7 Toren in einem Test-Länderspiel gab es hier gleich zweimal 90 Minuten und danach an der Theke und am Merch sogar noch Verlängerung. Was will man mehr?

Ein Wort zur Location „Kulturrampe Krefeld“

Und es ist einfach immer wieder eine Freude, den Kulturrampe-Macher Maurice Kamp wiederzutreffen. Man wird hier als Hobby-Redakteur freundschaftlich begrüßt. Und es ist immer Zeit für ein privates Schwätzchen. Zudem ist die Location einfach ideal für echte Independent-Konzerte im intimen Rahmen. Der alte Krefelder Schlachthof bietet genügend freie und vor allem kostenlose Parkplätze. Dazu gibt es direkt neben der Kulturrampe zahlreiche Imbisse und Lokale für ein schmackhaftes, billiges oder auch elegantes und teures Abendessen. Und günstige, gut gekühlte Getränke zum fairen Preis nimmt man dann bitte, bitte der Kulturrampe ab. Denn von den 24.20 €, die so eine Eintrittskarte hier nur kostet, kann man ja nach Abzug der Gage für die Bands, der Theken-Personal- und Stromkosten, einer satten Veranstalterhaftpflicht sowie GEMA-Gebühren kaum noch was übrig haben. Daher erstmal Dankeschön, dass es solche Kultur-Einrichtungen wie die Rampe in Krefeld hier bei uns im Westen gibt. Kommt also runter vom Sessel, schaut immer mal wieder durchs monatlich sehr abwechslungsreiche Live-Musik-Programm der Kulturrampe Krefeld. Und „geht einfach wieder mehr auf Konzerte.“ Unser Tipp für die Gitarren-Nerd-Fraktion: Am 17. Mai 2026 findet die GUITARMANIA 2026, präsentiert von Krissy Matthews, statt.

Beginn mit FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS

Heute Abend starten pünktlichst um kurz vor 20.30 Uhr die beiden gebürtigen Chileninnen von FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS. Sängerin und Gitarristin Karin Aguilera sowie Schlagzeugerin Francisca Torés Leiva, die inzwischen nach Berlin umgezogen sind, machen von Beginn an so richtig Alarm hier. Und man merkt: Hier sind Profis auf der Bühne. Nein, vielmehr: echte Künstler*innen. Denn die Musik, die eigens kreierten Bühnen-Outfits (die zwischenzeitlich auch noch gewechselt werden) sowie die bestens auf die Songs abgestimmten Video-Leinwand-Hintergrund-Animationen gehen so fließend ineinander über, dass es eine wahre Freude ist.

Songs wie „Play“ oder „Best One Yet“ werden direkt zu Ohrwürmern und animieren zum CD-Kauf nach der Show. Und man fragt sich, wie ein Duo so einen satten Live-Sound auf die Bühne bekommt. Auf alle Fälle wird im Verlauf des Gigs von FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS aus der anfangs noch weißen Leinwand (White Canvas) ein bewegtes, mal graues, mal buntes Bild (wie das Leben halt).

Bereits Vorgruppe für KISS und GUNS N´ ROSES

In ihrem Heimatland Chile sind FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS bereits richtig bekannt und haben bereits diverse Preise (Bester Rockkünstler, bestes Rockalbum, Rockalbum des Jahres etc.) abgeräumt. Daher durften die Beiden in Chile auch schon als Support-Acts für Weltklasse-Bands wie KISS und die GUNS N´ROSES deren Shows eröffnen. Wow.

Wieviel Substanz in diesem Duo steckt, hört und sieht man. Und so manchem Besucher bleibt die Kinnlade offen stehen, wenn man hier und heute erlebt, was man da nur mit Stimme, Gitarre und Drums an Kraft und Ausdruck erzeugen kann. Und trotz der 6-stündigen Anreise per Bahn aus der Bundeshauptstadt wirken FRANK´S WHITE CANVAS heute Abend in der Kulturrampe Krefeld frisch und energiegeladen. Eigentlich schade, dass die Show nach rund 90 Minuten – und natürlich einer Zugabe „auf ausdrücklichen Wunsch des Publikums“ – ein Ende hat. Wir können nur dringend dazu raten, sich mal mit den beiden CD´s „This will hurt, this will heal“ sowie „My Life, My Canvas“ – welches übrigens in London von keinem Geringeren als Dimitri Tikovoï (Placebo, Blondie, Charli XCX) produziert worden ist – auseinanderzusetzen. Und die Band möglichst bald auf Tour zu besuchen. Hier könnt ihr Karin und Francisca (und dies gleich mehrfach) sehen und hören – der Song erinnerte uns stark ans Musical „Das Phantom der Oper„:

Auf die Gefahr hin, dass wir uns wiederholen: Aber Frank´s White Canvas beherrschen die Kunst der Musik-Performance auf höchstem Niveau. Deren Auftritt war wirklich beeindruckend stimmig. Eigentlich gehört dieses Duo unseres Erachtens auf größere Bühnen. Derzeit touren Frank´s White Canvas jedoch noch durch kleinere Locations. Schaut bitte auf der „New Album Tour 2026“ vorbei. Es ist verdammt schwierig, auf Fotos die Energie und Kunst dieser tollen Band abzubilden. Schaut mal durch:

Amy Montgomery und PREYRS

Wir wunderten uns noch ein wenig, als FRANK`S WHITE CANVAS ihren Auftritt mit dem Hinweis beendeten, dass nun PREYRS kommen würden, um die Bühne der Kulturrampe zu zerlegen. Denn das taten Amy Montgomery und ihre Band ab der ersten Sekunde dann auch wirklich. Kein Wunder also, dass die selbstbewusste Frontfrau „wie fast bei jedem Auftritt“ mal wieder einen ihrer Ohrringe auf der Bühne verlor (und dank eines Fans in Reihe 1 nach der Show wiederbekam). Das drittletzte Konzert der ersten Deutschland-Tour war dann auch ein voller Erfolg – für beide Seiten. Die Fans und die Band hatten sichtlich Freude, denn Amy und ihre Mitstreiter versprühten Energie pur. Aber auch Demut, denn PREYRS ist dankbar dafür, dass sie ihren Musik-Traum leben. Und diese Tour genießen dürfen. Dies wird dann sogar spirituell mit dem Gospel „Down To The River To Prey“ gemeinsam von Drummer und Michael Mormecha mit Sängerin Amy zelebriert. Apropos Amy: Diese Powerfrau springt, hüpft, tanzt und spielt selbstbewusst mit den Tele-Objektiven der anwesenden Fotografen und Video-Kameras von der ersten Sekunde an bis zur Zugabe. Man fragt sich da schon, wie sie überhaupt noch und dann sogar im Takt und so schön und kräftig singen kann. Allerhöchsten Respekt dafür. Wer die Band noch gar nicht kennt – so klingen PREYRS übrigens live:

PREYRS – hervorgegangen aus dem gemeinsamen Projekt der anfänglich unter ihrem eigenen Namen performenden Künstlerin Amy Montgomery und ihrem Produzenten Michael Mormecha sowie den beiden weiteren Bandmitgliedern – spielen an diesem Abend neben alten Tracks wie „Astil“ auch viele neue Songs vom Debüt-Album der Band, dass da „The Wounded Healer“ heißt. Ein Wort zu Michael: Der Multi-Instrumentalist bespielt nicht nur die Trommelfelle an diesem Abend. Nein, bei zwei Songs greift er höchstselbst zur Gitarre und singt auch noch. Und dies richtig, richtig gut. In der Zwischenzeit übernimmt Gitarrist Nolan halt die Drums. Und macht dies auch richtig, richtig gut. Was ein Hin und Her, was für eine Abwechslung auf der Bühne. Einfach großartig. Als Michael dann fast übermütig mit der Gitarre auf die Bassdrum steigt (siehe Foto unten in der Fotostrecke), reißt er sich beim Sprung danach das Kabel aus dem geliehenen Saiteninstrument und ist anschließend nicht mehr zu hören. Man sieht ihn verzweifelt auf dem Boden an der Pedal-Station rumkrabbeln wie er versucht, das Problem irgendwie wieder in den Griff zu bekommen. Sängerin Amy kommt hierüber kaum aus dem Lachen raus…Apropos Amy.

Ein paar Worte zu Amy Montgomery

Die irische Singer-Songwriterin Amy Montgomery ist in ihrem Heimatland just für den Titel der „Künstlerin des Jahres“ nominiert worden. Auch heute erscheint die Frontfrau der Band PREYRS wieder in Kriegsbemalung und im extravaganten Bühnenkostüm, wie die nachfolgende Foto-Strecke eindrucksvoll beweist. Noch eindrucksvoller ist aber ihre Stimme. Roh, kraft- und zugleich schmerzvoll. Dazu tanzt die 24-jährige mit derart selbstbewusst über die Bühnenbretter, dass die Energie von der Bühne sofort aufs Publikum überschwappt. Kein Wunder also, dass die Künstlerin von ihrer Heimatstadt Belfast ausgewählt wurde, um diese beim One Young World Summit in Manchester zu vertreten.

Heute Bielefeld, morgen Berlin

Wir haben uns hier mächtig mit diesem Artikel beeilt. Und wie immer kein einziges Foto aufgehübscht, sondern lediglich mit unserem mh-Wasserzeichen versehen und zeitnah für euch (also für diejenigen, die auf dem Konzert waren und diejenigen, die nun daran interessiert sind, diese Band einmal live zu erleben) hochgeladen. Damit ihr neben unserem Konzertbericht auch einen visuellen Eindruck vom gestrigen Gig erhaltet. Wobei statische Bilder leider nicht annähernd die Intensität des Auftritts von PREYRS rüberbringen. Ihr müsst diese Energie, die Leidenschaft zur Musik und diese Freude innerhalb der Band daher am besten einfach selbst einmal live erleben. Und zwar heute oder morgen. Denn nur noch am 28.03. in Bielefeld und am 29.03. in Berlin habt ihr hierzu Gelegenheit. Dann endet die „The Wounded Healer“ – Debüt-Album-Tour 2026 durch Deutschland. Also: Beeilt euch. Es lohnt sich. PREYRS werden ihren Weg gehen. Unser Bauchgefühl: Schon in diesem, spätestens im kommenden Sommer werden PREYRS auf jedem bekannten, europäischen Musik-Festival vertreten sein! Wir gönnen es dieser sympathischen, faszinierenden und richtig guten Truppe von Herzen!

Der Support: die Newcomer von Crimson Bloom

Für unsere anwesenden Redakteure war der Auftritt der jungen Indie-Rocker aus der Samt- und Seidenstadt keine Premiere. Denn wir hatten Crimson Bloom (bitte nicht mit der gleichnamigen Band aus UK verwechseln) bereits beim Rock It-Festival 2024 im Bollwerk in Moers gesehen. Und für ziemlich gut und livetauglich befunden. Das Quartett enttäuschte uns sowie die übrigen Fans in der gut gefüllten Kulturrampe auch an diesem Abend nicht. Vom aktuellen Longplayer „Instant Love“ (siehe alle gängigen Streamingplattformen) wurden ebenso Songs gespielt wie auch ein Cover der Arctic Monkeys. Mit 10 Tracks – darunter auch ein Mitsingpart im Lied „Queen of decay“ – schafften es Crimson Bloom sogar, „die Alten“ im Publikum zum Tanzen zu bringen. Unser Favorit des Abends war übrigens der groovige Song „Too busy to love“ . Der Hauptact: Slowkiss aus Chile

Mit ihrem Mix aus Punk, Post-Grunge sowie Shoegaze Rock begeisterte anschließend das chilenische Quartett Slowkiss das feierwütige Publikum in der Rampe.

Von langsam („slow“ ) konnte bei der rasanten Achterbahnfahrt durch 15 Songs allerdings keine Rede sein. Wobei sich Sängerin Elisa Montes (leider aus unserer Sicht) sehr wortkarg gab. Man hätte glatt vermuten können, die Band müsse noch die letzte Bahn nach Bremerhaven erreichen, wo am heutigen Samstag, den 18. Januar 2025, das letzte Konzert ihrer Tournee stattfinden wird (wir berichteten). Dann endlich – nach 12 Stücken – bedankte sich Elisa artig beim Publikum und der Kulturrampe Krefeld. Und ergänzte, wieviel Spaß die Band anlässlich ihres ersten Besuchs in Krefeld hätte. Sie wäre bloß keine große Rednerin und ihr Englisch wäre auch nicht so dolle. Das war´s dann auch. Nach einer Zugabe verließ die Band sichtlich erschöpft die Bühnenbretter. Wofür nicht jeder Fan im Publikum Verständnis hatte. Man wollte mehr. Doch die Band nahm sich dafür anschließend am Merch-Stand ausgiebig Zeit. Slowkiss schrieben Autogramme, machten Fotos und verkauften so nebenbei ihre restlichen Vinyl-Scheiben vom aktuellen Album „K.O. “ zum fairen Preis von 25 Euro (CDs gab es für 8 €, T-Shirts 15€). Wir von metal-heads.de fühlten uns musikalisch bestens unterhalten. Und freuen uns bereits auf den nächsten Besuch dieser sympathischen Band aus Chile hier bei uns. Francisco and Matias of Nuclear about the scene in South America

We were lucky to get to talk with Francisco and Matias about the differences between the european and the south american metal scene and about the metal scene in Chile in particular. Not surpringly the metalheads in Europe seem to go less crazy. But did you know that Iron Maiden got banned to play in Chile back in the Nineties? What does undergound shows in Chile look like? Francisco and Matias are also telling us about the younger bands and how they implement traditional elements in their music. For example singing in the traditonal language Mapudungun. But better watch now, it’s so fucking interesting!

1. Hey guys, welcome back in Germany. Welcome back to the Rage against Racism Festival 2023 in Duisburg. Do you remember playing here 6 years ago?

Matías: Hey Ralf! Thanks for this interview and it is always a pleasure to have a chat with you and the guys from Metalheads.de. Yeah! I still remember that. I was very impressed with the vibe of the festival. Lot of metalheads everywhere, young people, old headbangers, families, kids, everyone enjoying a great meeting around metal. Our first time there was a blast, we had a lot of support from the crowd and very good comments of many metalheads after our show. Also, I have to mention the importance of the significant message behind the fest: stop racism. As human beings we all must fight against racism, homophobia or violence against women and children. We need to be conscious about that, we have the responsability to stop that. Back to your question: Definitely I have great memories of that show in Duisburg, can´t wait to be back there this year!

Über 30.000 Chilenen beim Facebook-Live-Stream 2017

2. I still remember that we streamed your bombastic powerful show and more than 30.000 people in Chile saw this on Facebook which was incredible for our little non-profit magazine. So you seem to have a quite active and huge fan supporter base in your country, right?

Francisco: We remember perfectly. It was actually quite surprising for us too as we did not expect that crazy feedback on Facebook. We saw the video in London the next day and we couldn’t believe that amount of online viewers. In spite of that – I have to say RAR is easily one of the greatest places to play. Aside from the live performance, we had the time of our lives, met fantastic people and it will stay with us forever. We cannot wait to be there next month.

In regards to our fanbase in Chile, I think it is constantly growing. It is important to keep releasing new stuff and playing live everywhere you can. You get what you give and we always give our best, it is amazing having this crazy fanbase supporting all the time! Love it!

Mit Testament, Destruction & Brujeria auf der Bühne

3. While playing great Thrash Metal since 1995 Nuclear is a real institution and legend in the Heavy Metal Business. You played dozens of festivals and concerts with bands like Testament, Destruction or Brujeria so far. Which band you would have joined on tour but never shared stage with?

Matías: Thanks for your kind words, it’s been a long time since the beginning of this music journey. We’re passionate fans and we love extreme sounds, would be a dream come true to tour with bands like Misery Index, Napalm Death, Benediction, The Exploited, Asphyx, Obituary or Discharge just to name a few. Just before pandemic we’ve toured with Abbath and it was great. If sounds lound and extreme, it feels good for us.

Aktuelles Album „Murder of Crows“

4. You released your last album „Murder of Crows“ in year 2020 right in the beginning of the worldwide Covid pandemic. How did all this changed your personal and musical lifes until now?

Francisco: Ufff… A band or a band member will probably tell you that their latest work is the very best they’ve done. This might ot not be true depending on the eye of the beholder. That being said, Murder of Crows did change my personal and musical life, as for me, it is the best effort we’ve made. How we made it, when we made it, how it turned out, all mattered. It is very difficult to put feelings into words here, but I think this album marked some sort of a „new zero“ for everyone in the band.

5. Tough times for everyone. Well, coming to your gig in Duisburg, Germany. You will heading stage on Saturday at 5.40pm for about 50min playing time. Can you tell us some details about your setlist? Will we get songs in Spanish or English or both languages again? Do you have some brand new tracks for us?

Francisco: Español, English, you name it and we do have some new ideas but nothing too concrete to play live. However, we are unearthing some old tunes that are actually sounding way more brutal than before so be prepared for something unique. Also, be sure to spin some „Murder Of Crows“ before the gig because we are going to be playing a good chunk of It!!!! If you enjoyed that show in 2017, this one is going to be even better, faster and way more intense than the last.

6. In year 2017 it was a great pleasure to have a talk and beer with you all together backstage after your show. Hope to see you there again. And now it is your time. What do you want to say to your German fans and our readers?
Matías: I remember that, was a cool talk in backstage, nice people, cold beers and good fun. We’re beyond happy to come back to Rage Against Racism and we can assure you guys a fierce display of southamerican noise on stage. We can’t wait to show to all you guys our new music and to receive your energy on stage. We’ll always be grateful of the opportunity to be part of the festival and since our very first european tour German metalheads have shown us a great support, so see you headbangers in few days, will be raw and heavy

MH: Hallo NUCLEAR ! Ihr habt jetzt ganz frisch Euer Album „Murder Of Crows“ auf die Menschheit losgelassen. Es ist ein hartes, wütendes Album geworden, eine gnadenlose Abrechnung. Weltweit habt ihr bisher viele hervorragende Kritiken erhalten. Aufmerksamkeit ist Euch also garantiert und eure Botschaft wird gehört!

Matías (Vocals): Es ist eine Freude, wieder mit euch zu plaudern, zumindest virtuell. Wir haben immer noch frische Erinnerungen an das allererste Mal, als wir uns auf dem Rage Against Racism Festival in Duisburg trafen und miteinander sprachen. MH: Die Entstehung eines jeden Albums oder Songs ist immer etwas Besonderes. Es basiert auf bestimmten Umständen und Stimmungen und spiegelt oft die persönlichen Gefühle eines Musikers wider.

Unter welchen Bedingungen ist Ihr Album „Murder Of Crows“ entstanden?

Francisco (Guitars): „Murder Of Crows“ ist aus der Idee heraus entstanden, wieder bei Null anzufangen. Wir hatten in der Vergangenheit viel gearbeitet, um eine Art Stabilität zu erlangen und ein Haus zu haben, dem wir vertrauen und auf das wir uns mit unserer Musik verlassen konnten. Plötzlich war dieses Haus weg und wir mussten wieder bei Null anfangen. Wir arbeiteten als Freunde und mit absolut keinen musikalischen Grenzen, wir hatten niemanden, der nach dem neuen Material fragte oder uns eine Deadline für die Lieferung setzte. Wir haben uns viel Zeit gelassen, aber ich denke, das war es definitiv wert. Sobald wir mit der Arbeit begonnen hatten, ging es einfach weiter und das Ergebnis, 3 Jahre später, kann als einer der Höhepunkte der Band angesehen werden.

MH: With which idea or which song did the creation of the album start?

Francisco (Guitars): Der erste Song, den wir für das Album geschrieben haben, war „Hatetrend“. Es war eine Art Fortsetzung von „Formula For Anarchy“ (vielleicht ein bisschen wütender), aber trotzdem der erste, aber erst als wir mit „No light After All“ aufkamen, begannen wir wirklich mit der Arbeit an „Murder Of Crows“. Dieser Song fühlte sich richtig an, fühlte sich neu und frisch an, wir fühlten uns wirklich wohl dabei, ihn zu spielen, also würde ich sagen, das war der eigentliche Startschuss für das Album.

Veränderungen für NUCLEAR

MH: Sind es immer noch die gleichen Umstände, die Euch auf den letzten Alben begleitet haben?

Francisco (Guitars): Nein, sind sie nicht. Die früheren Alben wurden unter anderen Szenarien und Stimmungen geschrieben. Wir lebten damals in einer anderen Zeit. „Murder Of Crows“ hat uns individuell in einer schlechten Verfassung erwischt (ich kann zumindest für mich sprechen) und deshalb ist es wahrscheinlich so wütend. Wir haben nie über das Ergebnis nachgedacht – wir sind einfach den Weg gegangen. Vielleicht gaben diese anderen Umstände dem Album den nötigen Funken, wer weiß.

NUCLEAR – Die Abrechnung

MH: Mit was oder wem rechnet Ihr ab? (Vielleicht wissen viele Leute nicht, wie die aktuelle Situation in CHILE ist? Könnten Sie also aus Ihrer Sicht kurz zusammenfassen, worum es geht und wo die Probleme liegen).

Francisco (Guitars): Chile hat sich verändert. Chile war vor dem Oktober 2019 ein Land und danach ein ganz anderes. Wir haben erkannt, dass es über die Jahre zu viel Mist und Missbrauch gegeben hat und das muss gestoppt werden. Es ist schwierig, mit dem Finger auf jemanden zu zeigen, es war eine Summe von vielen Dingen, die über die Jahre den Bach runtergegangen sind. Die Politiker sind die ersten, die schuld sind. Ihr Egoismus und ihre Arroganz haben das Land in die Abwärtsspirale geführt, die wir heute sehen. Fehlende Gesundheitsversorgung, niedrige Gehälter, die extrem hohen Lebenshaltungskosten, es ist fast unmöglich, es hier zu schaffen, aber unsere Politiker werden sagen, dass alles großartig ist und Chile das stabilste, produktivste und nachhaltigste Land in Südamerika ist. Leider ist das nur eine weitere schwachsinnige Ausrede, um weiter die Fäden zu ziehen.

NUCLEARs Botschaft für das Volk

MH: Warum haben Sie den Song „Abusados“ auf Spanisch geschrieben?

Francisco (Guitars): Weil es dem chilenischen Volk gewidmet war und wir wollten, dass alle die Texte verstehen.

Die Umstände von „Murder Of Crows“

MH: Die politische Situation in Chile ist alles andere als entspannt und die sozialen Missstände sind allgegenwärtig. Bitte erzählen Sie uns etwas darüber! Habt ihr persönlich oder als Band jemals Schwierigkeiten mit dem System gehabt?

Matías (Vocals): Es sind in der Tat harte Zeiten. Politisch und gesellschaftlich gesehen. Seit letztem Jahr durchläuft Chile eine der schlimmsten Krisen seit dem Ende der Militärdiktatur in den späten 80er Jahren. Letztes Jahr waren Millionen von Menschen in ganz Chile auf der Straße, um gegen jahrzehntelangen Missbrauch, Ungleichheit und Korruption zu protestieren. Harte Tage, brutale Repression gegen Demonstranten, Verletzte, von der Bereitschaftspolizei verstümmelte Menschen, einige Tote und das ganze Land schien wie eine große Bombe kurz vor der Explosion.

Danach hatten wir es mit einer der schlimmsten Pandemien in unserer Geschichte zu tun. Hohe Ansteckungsraten, viele Tote, Ausgangssperre, Quarantäne, Arbeitslosigkeit, die Wirtschaft in einer Abwärtsspirale. Ich weiß nicht, ob es positiv oder korrekt ist, „Inspiration“ zu sagen, aber all diese Situationen schufen eine Atmosphäre voller Gewalt und Wut, auch eine dunkle Mischung aus Traurigkeit und Verzweiflung. Das war die Umgebung von „Murder Of Crows“.

Das kranke System

Matías (Vocals): Um es gleich auf den Punkt zu bringen, was Deine Fragen betrifft: Als Einwohner Chiles hatten, haben und werden wir immer Probleme mit dem ungerechten System haben, in dem wir leben. Der „chilenische demokratische Weg“ bedeutet Ungleichheit, Missbrauch durch Konzerne, politische Korruption und wirtschaftlichen Raubbau. Alles in unserem Land wurde an multinationale Konzerne verkauft, sogar das Wasser. Können Sie das glauben? Das Wasser! Es ist erschreckend. Niedrige Löhne, ein völlig zusammengebrochenes öffentliches Gesundheitssystem, miserable Renten für ältere Menschen, Geschäfte und schmutziger Profit im Bildungswesen, Politiker, die sich wie Lobbyisten für das Großkapital verhalten, Polizeibrutalität, um nur ein paar Dinge zu nennen. Das ist Chile im 21. Jahrhundert. Und es ist traurig, denn wer will schon in die Zukunft denken, wenn die eigene Gegenwart so deprimierend, so negativ ist?

Wir sind keine politischen Aktivisten, aber als Bürger haben wir unsere Standpunkte, und wir versuchen, diese Gedanken in unserer Musik zu repräsentieren. Und anderen Leuten, die vielleicht nicht wissen, wie die Dinge auf dieser Seite der Welt laufen, etwas von unserer eigenen Realität zu zeigen. Und das ist es, was Musik für uns bedeutet: ein Ausdruck von Brutalität in wirklich harten Zeiten, das Leben ist nicht einfach in Südamerika, und die letzten zwei Jahre waren auch für Chilenen sehr schwierig.

Metal-Szene in Chile

MH: Lass uns ein bisschen über die Metal-Szene in Chile sprechen. Ihr macht jetzt schon seit einigen Jahren Musik und ich denke, ihr habt eine Menge durchgemacht. Wie steht es um die chilenische Metal-Szene? Unterschiede von damals zu heute?

Seba (Guitars):  Für mich macht es keinen Sinn, die frühen Jahre mit der heutigen Situation zu vergleichen, weil sich alles drastisch verändert hat. Internet und Kommunikation haben die Art und Weise, wie Menschen sozial interagieren, neu gestaltet. Es ist wirklich schwer, Leute zu finden, die wie früher Alben, Kassetten oder Fanzines austauschen. Heutzutage haben Spotify oder YouTube diese Treffpunkte ersetzt, aber ich denke, es ist auch cool, weil mehr Menschen Zugang zur Musik haben.

In Chile sind viele Leute Metal-Fans, große Konzerte sind gut besucht, aber ehrlich gesagt glaube ich nicht, dass wir eine Metal-Szene haben, oder vielleicht ist es heutzutage anders als früher… Wir haben Bands, aber wir haben keine starke Bewegung rund um Metal und das Genre ist immer noch eine Art Subkultur für die meisten Leute. Metal-Musik ist weit weg von den Kulturmedien und wir haben keine spezialisierten Medien, professionelle Medien rund um Metal zum Beispiel. Es ist hier immer noch eine Art Underground-Sache.

Die Kindheit

MH: Gehen wir weiter zurück in der Zeit. Welches Erlebnis kommt Euch spontan in den Sinn, wenn Ihr Euch an Eure Kindheit und Jugend erinnert?

Punto (Drums): Ich habe sehr gute Erinnerungen an die Zeit, als ich ein Kind war und ich begann, viele Dinge wie Musik kennenzulernen. Es fällt mir ein, als ich 11 Jahre alt war und bereits Bands wie IRON MAIDEN und METALLICA hörte, aber als ich SEPULTURA oder SLAYER hörte, war das eine neue Welt.

Es war das Jahr 1992 und in unserer Stadt gab es einen Laden, der Metal brachte und wir konnten die extremste neue Welle des Stils entdecken: Death Metal und entdeckten Bands wie MORBID ANGEL, DEATH, OBITUARY, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NAPALM DEATH und andere. Diese Jahre halfen mir, Bands und Leute zu treffen, denen es genauso ging wie mir, und mehr Kontakte mit Leuten innerhalb und außerhalb von Arica (meiner Heimatstadt) zu knüpfen. Schließlich gefiel uns die Idee, Musik zu machen und zwar mit Freunden, die wir in der Schule hatten und die von unseren Lieblingsbands beeinflusst wurden. Daraus entstand die Idee, eine Band zu gründen, und sie hat bis heute nicht aufgehört.

Punto´s Familie

MH: Habt Ihr Kinder?

Punto (Drums): Ja, sein Name ist NUCLEAR, hahaha. Nein, habe ich nicht. Ich persönlich habe als Kind beschlossen, keine Kinder zu haben, weil ich immer eine Band haben wollte und das war mein Projekt des ganzen Lebens.

Erinnerungen an die ersten Songs

MH: Wer oder was hat damals und im weiteren Verlauf Ihr Interesse für Musik, speziell für Metal-Musik, geweckt?

Matias (Vocals): Meine älteste Erinnerung ist, dass ich als Kind zum allerersten Mal AC/DC hörte. Ich glaube, ich war vielleicht acht Jahre alt und hörte mir „Who Made Who“ auf einem lokalen Radiosender an. Es war etwas Gewaltiges, die Gitarren, Brian Johnsons Stimme, das Schlagzeug. Unbeschreiblich. Danach habe ich immer wieder meine Mutter gebeten, mir „Who Made Who“ zu schenken. Und so war es dann auch. Danach begann die Suche nach härterer Musik wie Thrash oder Death Metal und hörte nie wieder auf. Mit den Jungs lieben wir es, neue Musik zu hören, bei jeder Probe empfiehlt jemand eine neue Band, ein Album, eine Single, was auch immer. Ich denke, man kann immer von der Musik, ihrer Vielseitigkeit oder ihrer Abwechslung überrascht werden. Und das ist großartig, denn sie ist ein Universum in ständiger Expansion.

MH: Was haben Eure Eltern von dieser Idee gehalten, als Ihr Euch für Metal-Musik entschieden habt und eine Band gründen wolltet?

Seba (Guitars): Zu Hause hatten wir immer eine gute Beziehung zwischen Musik und Kunst. Auch meine Brüder haben sich in künstlerische Berufe hineinentwickelt. Dann entschied ich mich, Tontechnik zu studieren und mich voll und ganz der Musik zu widmen, als Musikproduzent und Musiker. Ich denke, das war für meine Familie nicht ungewöhnlich. Mit Francisco und Punto haben wir die Band gegründet, als wir noch Schulkameraden waren, sehr jung. Eigentlich denke ich, dass meine Familie mehr Angst vor den Plattencovern hatte, die wir damals ausgetauscht und gehört haben, hahahaha.

Weihnachten steht vor der Tür

MH: Weihnachten steht bald vor der Tür. Was denkt Ihr dieses Jahr darüber? Wie wird Weihnachten in Chile gefeiert?

Matías (Vocals): Es wird dieses Jahr eine ganz andere Weihnachtszeit sein. Wir sind immer noch unter Pandemie und alle Arten von Einschränkungen. Ich weiß nicht, ob es so sein wird wie in den anderen Jahren, aber ich persönlich werde eine Art intime Feier mit meiner Frau und meinem Sohn haben, ein paar Platten auflegen und ein paar Biere trinken. Um Deine Frage zu beantworten, in Chile wird Weihnachten sehr groß gefeiert, überall gibt es viele Grillfeste und Familientreffen. Der Unterschied zu Deutschland ist, dass wir im Sommer sind und man sich die ganzen langbärtigen Weihnachtsmann-Kostümtypen vorstellen kann, die in ihren Anzügen bei 32° Grad kochen, kein Schnee, keine Rehe und keine Elfen.

Der Affenschwanz

MH: Was sagt Euch der „Affenschwanz“ ( „Cola de Mono“)? Gibt es eine Geschichte dazu?

Matías (Vocals): Ja, „Cola de Mono“ das höllische Getränk. Man beachte: Milch, 50-prozentiger Alkohol namens „Aguardiente“, Kaffee und Zucker. Alles gemischt in einem Glas oder einer Flasche und serviert mit irgendeiner Art von süßem Brot. Milch mit Alkohol? Verdammt! Ich kann nach meinem Trinkversuch nicht empfehlen, davon einen Kater zu riskieren. Für mich war es eine Nahtoderfahrung, buchstäblich gesprochen hahahaha.

Ich erinnere mich noch an diese Nacht: Wir hörten mit meinem damals besten Freund einige Alben von Metal-Bands, wir waren Teenager, hatten nicht viel Geld in der Tasche. Die einzige Möglichkeit, das zu lösen, war, eine Flasche „Cola de Mono“ aus dem Kühlschrank der Oma meines Freundes zu nehmen. Falsche Entscheidung. Die ältere Frau pflegte das Getränk mit hochprozentigem Aguardiente in der Mischung zu „verbessern“. Das Endergebnis war katastrophal, wir waren buchstäblich in wenigen Minuten betrunken und es war einer der schlimmsten Kater, an die ich mich erinnern kann, hahahaha, wir fühlten uns den ganzen Tag danach wie gerädert. Sommer, Kater, Milch mit Alkohol. Eine schlechte Entscheidung, absolut!

NUCLEAR beim Rage Against Racism 2019

MH: Welche Erinnerungen habt Ihr noch an das Rage Against Racism Festival 2019?

Francisco (Guitars): Die Besten, und das sage ich nicht nur so. Wir hatten wirklich einen Riesenspaß an diesem Tag. Es war ein Samstag und wir kamen von einem anderen Festival. Seit wir am Morgen ankamen, funktionierte alles perfekt: die Leute, die Crew, die Stimmung, das Essen, die Getränke, alles war an seinem Platz. Es fühlte sich wie zu Hause an und wir genossen jede Sekunde. Es war wie eine große Metal-Familie, wo alle für das gleiche Ziel arbeiteten, und wir wären an diesem Abend gerne noch länger auf der Afterparty geblieben, aber wir hatten am nächsten Tag eine Show in London, also mussten wir gehen.

Wir unterhalten uns oft untereinander und erinnern uns an RAR. Wir haben das Bedürfnis, eines Tages zurückzukommen und alles noch einmal zu erleben. RAR war eines dieser Dinge im Leben, die für immer hängen bleiben, denke ich. Nochmals vielen Dank, dass wir ein Teil davon sein durften.

Letzte Worte von NUCLEAR zu „Raise your horns“

MH: Was denkt Ihr über die folgenden Bilder? Kommt Euch irgendwas bekannt vor?

Matías (Vocals): Hahahaha, ist vielleicht nicht das Gleiche, aber erinnert mich an die letzten Minuten, bevor wir Rage Against Racism auf dem Weg zum Hotel verließen. Biere, Shots und noch mehr Biere und Shots. Am nächsten Tag mussten wir frühmorgens den ganzen Weg nach London für den nächsten Gig fahren. Ich kann wetten, dass sich niemand mehr gut daran erinnern kann, wie wir im Hotel ankamen, aber wir hatten eine coole Zeit in der Bar im Backstage-Bereich. Und ja, hebt die Hörner hoch! Aber anstelle von Hörnern hatten wir Bierdosen und Schnapsgläser hahahahaha.

MH: Hello NUCLEAR ! You have now freshly unleashed your album „Murder Of Crows“ on mankind. It has become a hard angry album, a merciless reckoning. Worldwide NUCLEAR received many excellent reviews so far, so you are guaranteed attention and NUCLEAR ´s message will be heard.

Matías (Vocals): It is a pleasure to chat with you guys again, at least virtually. We still have fresh memories of that very first time that we met and talk each other at Rage Against Racism Festival in Duisburg. Thanks a lot for your kind words on our new release, we’re stoked with the reception, a lot of positive feedback on media and -of course- from the metalheads whose like our music. „Murder Of Crows“ represents the new reality of Nuclear, and the music speaks by itlself: angry, heavy and raw.

Ideas and feelings about „Murder Of Crows“

MH: The making of every album or song is always something special. This means that it is based on certain circumstances and moods and often reflects the personal feelings of a musician.

Under which conditions was your album „Murder Of Crows“ created?

Francisco (Guitars): „Murder Of Crows“ was created out of the idea of going back to zero again. We had worked a lot in the past to obtain some sort of stability and to have a house where we could trust and rely our music on. All of a sudden that house was gone and we needed some start from scratch again.

We worked as friends and with absolutely no musical boundaries, we did not have anyone asking for the new stuff or setting a deadline to deliver. We took some serious time, but I think it was definitely worth it. Once we began working, things just kept on going and the result, 3 years later, might be considered as one of the band’s highest points.

The birth of „Murder Of Crows“

MH: With which idea or which song did the creation of the album start?

Francisco (Guitars): The first song we wrote for the album was „Hatetrend“. It was some sort of continuance of „Formula For Anarchy“ (maybe a little bit angrier), but nevertheless, the first, but it wasn´t until we came up with „No light After All“ that we really started working on „Murder Of Crows“. That song felt right, felt new and fresh, we were really comfortable playing it so I’d say that was the real kick off of the album.

Changes for NUCLEAR

MH: Are they still the same circumstances that accompanied NUCLEAR on the last albums?

Francisco (Guitars): No, they aren’t. Prior albums were written under different scenarios and moods. We were living a different time then. „Murder Of Crows“ caught us in a bad shape individually (I can speak for myself at least) and that is probably why it is that angry. We never thought about the outcome – we just went with it. Perhaps those different circumstances gave the album the spark it needed, who knows.

NUCLEAR ´s reckoning

MH: What or who do you settle up with? (Maybe many people don’t know what the current situation in CHILE is like? So from your point of view, could you briefly summarize what it’s all about and where the problems are).

Francisco (Guitars): Chile changed. Chile was one country before October 2019 and a totally different one after that. We realized there have been too many fuck ups and abuse over the years and that must be stopped. It is difficult to point a finger at someone, it has been a sum of many things that went down the drain over the years.

Politicians are the first to blame. Their selfishness and arrogance led the country to the downward spiral we see nowadays. Lack of health care, low salaries, the extremely high cost of living, it is barely impossible to make it here but our politicians will say everything is great and Chile is the most stable, prolific and sustainable country in South America. Sadly that is just another bullshit excuse to keep pulling the strings.

NUCLEAR ´s message for the nation

MH: Why did you write the song „Abusados“ in Spanish?

Francisco (Guitars): Because it was dedicated to the Chilean people and we wanted all to understand the lyrics.

The envirement of NUCLEAR ´s „Murder Of Crows“

MH: The political situation in Chile is anything but relaxed and the social grievances are omnipresent. Please tell us something about it! Did you personally or as a band ever have any difficulties with the system?

Matías (Vocals): Tough times indeed. Political and socially speaking. Since last year Chile passes through one of our most definitory trances since the end of military dictatorship back in the late 80s. Last year millions of people across Chile were on the streets protesting against decades of abuse, inequality and corruption. Tough days, brutal repression against protesters, people injured, people mutilated by riot police, some dead and the entire country seemed like a big bomb near to explode.

After that, we had to face one of the worst pandemic blasts in all our history. High contagion rates, many deads,  curfew, quarantine, disemployment, the economy in a downward spiral. I don’t know if is positive or correct to say „inspiration“, but all those situations created an atmosphere full of violence and anger also a dark mix of sadness and despair. That was the enviroment around „Murder Of Crows“.

The sick system

Straight to the point regarding to your questions: as inhabitants of Chile we always had, always have and always will have problems with the unfair system we live on. The „chilean democratic way“ means inequality, corporate abuse, political corruption and economic predation. Everything in our country was sold to multinational corporations, even the water.

Can you believe that? The water! It is frightening. Low wages, a totally collapsed public health system, miserable pensions to elder people, business and filthy lucre on education, politicians acting like lobbists for big business, police brutality, just to name a few things. That is Chile in the 21st century. And it is sad, because who wants to think in the future if our own present is so depressing, so negative?

We’re not political activists but as citizens we have our points of view, and we try to represent that thoughts in our music. And show some of our own reality to other people whom maybe don’t know how the things are going in this side of the world. And that is what music means to us: an expression of brutality in really though times, life isn’t easy in South America, and the last two years being very difficult to Chileans as well.

Metal-Szene in Chile

MH: Let’s talk a little bit about metal scene in Chile. You have been making music for several years now and I think you have been through a lot.

Seba (Guitars):  For me, it make no sense to compare the early years with the current situation, because everything changed drastically. Internet and communications has rebuilt the way people interact socially. It is really hard to find people sharing albums, tapes or fanzines like before. Nowadays Spotify or YouTube replaced that meeting points, but I think is also cool because more people have access to music.

In Chile many people are metal fans, big concerts have big attendances but honestly I don’t think we have a metal scene or maybe nowadays. It is different than the past. We have bands, but we don’t have a strong movement around metal and the genre is still some kind of sub-culture for most of the people. Metal music is far away from culture media and we don’t have specialized media, professional media around metal for example. It’s kinda very underground thing still here.

The Childhood

MH: Let’s go further back in time.  What kind of experience comes to your mind spontaneously when you remember your childhood and youth?

Punto (Drums): I have very good memories of when I was a child and I began to know many things such as music. It comes to mind when I was 11 years old and I was already listening to bands like IRON MAIDEN and METALLICA, but when I heard SEPULTURA or SLAYER, it was a new world.

It was the year 1992 and in our city there was a store that brought metal and we were able to discover the most extreme new wave of the style: Death Metal, discovering bands like MORBID ANGEL, DEATH, OBITUARY, ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER, NAPALM DEATH among others. Those years helped me to meet bands, people who were in the same way with you and to generate more contacts with people  inside and outside of Arica (my hometown). Finally, we liked the idea of making music and with friends that we had at school and influenced by our favorite bands. It was born from making a band and it has not stopped until now.

Punto´s baby

MH: Do you have kids yourself?

Punto (Drums): Yeah, his name is NUCLEAR, jejejeje. No, I dont. Personally I took a decision when i was child don´t have any kids, because I always wanted to have a band and this has been my project of whole life.

Memories of first music listening

MH: Who or what awakened your interest in music at that time and in the further course of time especially for metal music? 

Matias (Vocals): My oldest memory is when i was a child and listened to AC/DC for the very frist time. I think i was eight years old maybe and listened to „Who Made Who“ on a local radio station. It was something powerful, the guitars, Brian Johnson’s voice, the drums. Undescriptible. After that i repetidely started to ask my mom to give me „Who Made Who“ as a gift. And so it was.

After that the search for heavier music like thrash or death metal started and never stopped. With the guys we love to listen to new music, every rehearsal someone recommend a new band, an album, a single, wathever. I think you can be always suprised by music, its versatility or its variety. And that’s great because it is a universe in contant expansion.

MH: What did your parents think about this idea when you decided to play metal music and wanted to form a band?

Seba (Guitars): At home we always had a good relationship between music and arts. My brothers also deveoloped themselves into artistic careers. Then, I decided to study sound engineering and dedicate myself to music full time, as music producer and musician. I think it wasn’t weird for my family. With Francisco and Punto we started the band when we were schoolmates, very young. Actually I think my family was more frightened for the cover art of the records that we exchanged and listened to back in those times hahahaha.

Christmas is coming

MH: Christmas is coming soon, also for the hard guys of NUCLEAR. What are your thoughts about it this year? How is Christmas celebrated in Chile?

Matías (Vocals): It will be a very different Christmas time this year. We’re still under pandemic and all kind of restrictions. I don’t know if will be the same like other years, but I personally will have some kind of intimate celebration with my wife and son, spinning some records, and grabing some beers.  Replying your question, in Chile Xmas is widely celebrated, lot of barbecues everywhere and family meetings. As difference with Germany, we’re in summer and you can imagine all those long bearded Santa Claus costume guys boiling inside their suits with 32° degrees, no snow, no deers and no elfs.

„Cola de Mono“ the hellish beverage

MH: What does the „Cola de Mono“ tell you? Is there a story about it?

Matías (Vocals): Yes, „Cola de Mono“ the hellish beverage. Take note: milk, 50% proof alcohol called „aguardiente“, coffee and sugar. Everything mixed in one glass or bottle and served with some kind of sweet bread. The first thing is milk with alcohol? damn! I cannot recommend to survive a hangover after drinking that, for me was a near-death experience, literally speaking hahahaha.

I still remember that night: we were listening to some albums of metal bands with my best friend of that times, we were teenagers, no much money in our pockets. The only way to solve that was to take a bottle of „Cola de Mono“ from my friend’s grandma fridge. Wrong decision. The elder woman used to „improve“ the beverage with high percentages of aguardiente in the mix. The final result was catastrophic, we literally got drunk in minutes and it was one of the worst hangovers i have memory hahahaha, we felt ablaze all the day after. Summer, hangover, milk with alcohol. Bad decision, absolutely!

NUCLEAR at Rage Against Racism 2019

MH: What memories do you have of the Rage Against Racism Festival 2019?

Francisco (Guitars): The best and I am not saying this just because. We really had a blast that day. It was a Saturday and we were coming from another festival. Since we arrived in the morning everything worked perfectly: the people, the crew, the vibe, food, drinks, everything was in place. It felt like home and we enjoyed every second of it. It was like a big metal family working for the same goal and we would’ve loved to stay longer that night at the afterparty but we had a show in London the next day so we had to leave. We often chat between us and remember RAR. We NEED to come back one day and relive everything once again. RAR was one of those things in life that got stuck forever, I guess. Thanks again for letting us be a part of that.

NUCLEAR ´s last words on „Raise Your Horns“

MH: What do you think about the following pictures? Does anything look familiar to you?

Matías (Vocals): Hahahaha maybe is not the same, but remembers me the final minutes before we left Rage Against Racism on our way to the hotel. Beers, shots, and more beers and shots. Early in the morning the next day we had to travel all the way to London for the next gig. I can bet nobody remembers well how we arrive to hotel, but we had a cool time in the bar at the backstage. And yes, raise the horns up! But instead of horns we had beercans and shot glasses hahahahaha.

NUCLEAR schwelgen in Erinnerungen

metal-heads.de: Hi, this is Ralf, editor-in-chief from www.metal-heads.de, the German online magazine. We met each other two years ago in Germany. Guess where and when?
Francisco: Hi Ralf, how are you? I remember perfectly – it was during June 2017 at Rage Against Racism in Duisburg. What a great festival, crew, vibe and people. We often talk about that festival during our rehearsals and how much we would love to come back some day.

Die Backstage-Party war großartig

metal-heads.de: This would be absolutely lovely. You blew away the 3000 fans in Duisburg with your extremely mixture of thrash and death metal. What a great gig. Thanks again for this brilliant show. But what I remember even more then your live performance is the time hanging around with you guys in the backstage area. In contrast to your aggressive behavior on stage you were the most polite people there at the bar later. So you all have two different faces?
Francisco: Thanks for your kind words. It was indeed a really nice gig. We did not know what to expect in terms of feedback but at the end it seemed people enjoyed out set a lot. I remember there was also a live streaming so a lot of people outside the festival could watch it online. Backstage afterparty was great as well. We got to meet great people, talk to most of them, share thoughts, music tastes and have a nice time. We are easy going guys, we try to enjoy as much as we can when on tour and at RAR – it felt like home. Onstage is a little bit different, our music isn’t that nice, we talk about nasty things, day-by-day violence, political exploitation and things as such therefore we deliberately change our stance in that regard or better yet, the music drives us to it.

Neues Album am Start

metal-heads.de: Well, let´s talk about music. We heard that you have almost finished your new album No. 6 and will enter the studio for the final mix very soon. Tell us about the album title, the idea behind this record and the proposed release date please.
Francisco: Yes, we are currently finishing our 6th studio record. All of a sudden “Formula For Anarchy” is about to turn 4 years old and we needed something new to keep on going. We experienced difficult times as a band a couple of years ago, we had some problems (label-wise) and ideas did not flow as they should have. Happily, those things are behind us and we are about to have a new album out. We have the album title but we cannot reveal it just yet (we promise you guys will be one of the first to know about it) but we can say it has a different vibe, maybe not that fast (although it is actually pretty fast) but mostly very thick, negative and confrontational. In terms of release date, we need to talk to the interested labels and define one. The initial idea is for it to get released sometime during 2019.

metal-heads.de: Great news from NUCLEAR. Oh man, now I forgot something. Perhaps some of our german readers do not know you until now. Although they should if they like bands like Exodus or Kreator. So please can you instruct them what the band Nuclear stands for, when it was founded origin?

Matías: There is a „first incarnation“ of Nuclear back in the mid-nineties when Francisco (guitars), Sebastian (guitars) and Punkto (drums) founded Escoria, when they were schoolmates in the city of Arica, north of Chile. As Escoria, the guys released a couple of demo-tapes and played several gigs in the small scene of their city. After some changes, finishing school and stuff, they founded definitely Nuclear in 2003 and moving to Santiago, the capitol city of Chile.

After some line-up changes, the band released „Heaven Denied“ back in 2006, „Ten Broken Codes“ (2008), „Jehovirus“ (2010), „Apátrida“ (2012) and „Formula For Anarchy“ (2015). You can find all of these albums on Spotify or Bandcamp (http://nuclear.bandcamp.com), also a lot of stuff like official bootlegs and singles. I’ve joined the band in 2005 before the release of the first album, and Roberto (bass) join us since 2012.

metal-heads.de: Southamerican Metal as its finest, I would say, is the short term expression for NUCLEAR. You guys really rock. What are your personal musical ideals? Do like any german metal bands?
Matías: Many thanks Ralf for that. We really appreciate it! We ever like to play heavy, fast and aggressive and think this is the best way to show through the music how we live in this part of the world. It is not easy to deal every day with many issues like social exclusion or political corruption, just to name a few, and we try to use this kind of hostile enviroment as inspiration to create music. In some way, we live hard times in South America, politically and socially speaking. We’re very concern of that and we try to represent our vision of these problems by creating songs.

Nuclear sind Fans von Prypjat und Kreator

And about German bands, of course! We grew up listening to some metal classics as Kreator, Morgoth, Assassin, Destruction or Sodom and we still do, we love it. And talking about it: ¿Do you knew it? The very first international metal gig in Chile was Kreator back in 1992, people who attended it always says it was absolutely insane! Over 4.000 maniacs at the venue, riots outside… an „Extreme Aggression“ at its finest. Also we have very good friends in bands such as Prypjat from Köln or The Outside from Berlin, cool guys!

Wann kommen NUCLEAR wieder nach Deutschland?

metal-heads.de: I would love to see you live on stage again in Germany or somewhere in Europe. Do you have any tour plans so far for South America or even ideas to come back to Europe?
Francisco: Thanks Ralf! We try to always play and tour as much as we possibly can. Last year was crazy booked, we had many shows, travelled to many Chilean cities, some other countries in South America and did our fare share of shows in Santiago too but for 2019 we decided to slow down a little bit and focus on the new album. Often playing live and writing music do not get along and we felt we needed time. However, and once the album is out, Europe will definitely be in our plans and hopefully we might be able to do a 2019 run over there. Germany is of course one of the fixed destinations!

Über Jägermeister und Bier

metal-heads.de: Can´t wait for your upcoming gigs. I promise that the first Jaegermeister shots and Beers are on me then. Well, let´s come to the end of this interview. As usual for our readers on www.metal-heads.de, the last words are yours. What do you want to tell your old and new german fans?

Francisco: Thanks Ralf! Looking forward to those shots & beers! Well, always grateful of the German fans. Every time we go there, we have nothing but good feedback and support at every city we play. It is an extremely passionate and receptive fanbase of metalheads and it became a MUST GO when we tour Europe. I don’t even remember skipping Germany in one of our tours. I don’t think we ever had and I don’t think we ever will. Thanks again and stay on alert about upcoming news. You won’t be disappointed!
