Furious Power Metal

And if you look at the history of mankind in this way, you could unfortunately release countless albums on this topic. In this context the troopers are raging in the area of power metal and is not afraid to break through into the thrashy or rocky areas.

MARCH IN ARMS

are fighting the musical battle with 5 fellow combatants. For this album they have enlisted the support of specialists. So we are already at a special feature in the sound of MARCH IN ARMS. Besides the backing vocals there are two strings in the program, which refine the sound with cello and violin, but only for two songs.

„Welcome To The Blitz“ is the first single release, however, is first of all in the rocky melodic line. The Blitzkrieg during the Second World War is treated thematically to pay tribute to the heroic rebellion of the English in London. The song itself is simply structured with a powerful chorus. His rather loose rocky riffs are in the foreground. This really conveys DEF LEPPARD feeling from the 80ies & 90ies. Very nice and catchy rocksong!

The strengths

Take the opener „1914“, for example, which is a direct hit and is more metal oriented. The tempo is really going forward and the melodic vocal lines are just awesome, but also put enough power into the song in between. And it’s exactly this driving song that I least expected the strings. But there they are suddenly and I don’t find them out of place, but consider them a great component as a bridge for the following powerful vocal part. Official guitar solos are still on top. That’s how heroic feeling comes up. Real burner!

„PULSE OF THE DARING“

as the title song is also a highlight of the album. The song stomps powerfully forward and also sets a faster marching tempo. „Thunderbolt“ however breaks the sound barrier and advances at high speed. Afterwards „Omaha“ fires variedly through the ears, who is fighting also in the top league of the album. Hearing the song I thought from minute 02:30 on that James Hetfield made a vocal guest appearance after a bath in the fountain of youth. Fascinating!

The power ballad „Not For Nothing“ forms the perfect conclusion of the album and there the listeners can enjoy the strings again.

Result

MARCH IN ARMS deliver a great package and some songs are absolute grenades and they blow everything away. There are no absolute misfires, but I would have wished for a little more variety and specials (like the strings in „1914“ and „Not For Nothing“)The voice of Ryan Knutson is great and takes the songs to a higher level. And there is nothing to complain about from a purely technical point of view. The mates master their musical weapons perfectly. All in all a very well made album, which is a clear improvement. And MARCH IN ARMS can build on that.

der amerikanischen Truppe MARCH IN ARMS (Facebook ). Wie es der Bandname vermuten lässt, befassen sich die Amis mit der Kriegsthematik. Und wenn man sich die Geschichte der Menschheit so anschaut, könnte man zu diesem Thema leider unzählige Alben veröffentlichen. Hierbei tobt sich die Gruppe im Bereich des Power-Metal aus und scheut sich auch nicht mal in härtere thrashige oder rockigere Bereiche abzuschweifen.

MARCH IN ARMS

bestreiten die musikalische Schlacht mit 5 Mitstreitern. Für dieses Album hat man sich noch Unterstützung von Spezialisten an Land gezogen. Somit wären wir bei einer kleinen Besonderheit im Sound von MARCH IN ARMS. Neben Verstärkung bei den Backing Vocals gibt es noch zwei Streicher im Programm, die mit Cello und Violine den Sound verfeinern.

Davon ist bei der ersten Singleauskopplung „Welcome To The Blitz“ aber erst mal nix zu hören. Thematisch wird der Blitzkrieg während des Zweiten Weltkriegs behandelt, um das heroische Aufbäumen der Engländer in London zu würdigen. Der Songs selber ist einfach strukturiert mit einem kraftvollen Chorus. Hier stehen eher rockige Riffs im Vordergrund. Dies vermittelt tatsächlich 80`er und 90`er Jahre DEF LEPPARD-Feeling. Ein toller und eingängiger Rocksong!

Die wahren Stärken

des Albums sehe ich aber vor allem bei anderen Songs. Man nehme beispielsweise den Opener „1914“, der es direkt krachen lässt und mehr in Richtung Metal abgeht. Das Tempo geht ordentlich nach vorne und die melodischen Gesangslinien sind einfach nur geil, legen zwischendurch aber auch genügend Power in den Song. Und genau bei diesem treibenden Song hätte ich die Streicher am wenigsten erwartet. Aber da sind sie plötzlich und ich finde sie nicht deplaziert, sondern halte sie für eine tolle Komponente als Bridge für den anschließend kräftigen Vocalpart. Amtliche Gitarrensoli gibt es noch on top. So kommt heroisches Feeling auf. Richtiges Brett!

PULSE OF THE DARING

als Titelsong ist ebenfalls ein Highlight des Albums. Der Song stampft kraftvoll voran und legt auch mal nen flotteres Marschtempo vor. „Thunderbolt“ allerdings durchbricht dann die Schallmauer und fetzt mit Highspeed voran. Im Anschluss feuert „Omaha“, der sich ebenfalls durch die Topliga des Albums kämpft, abwechslungsreich durch die Ohren. Bei dem Song habe ich ab Minute 02:30 gedacht, dass James Hetfield nach einem Bad im Jungbrunnen einen gesanglichen Gastauftritt hingelegt hat. Faszinierend!

Die Powerballade „Not For Nothing“ bildet den perfekten Abschluss des Albums und dort kann man dann auch noch mal die Streicher genießen.

Fazit

MARCH IN ARMS liefern ein tolles Package ab und einige Songs sind absolute Granaten, die alles wegblasen. Fehlzünder gibt es nicht, aber hier und da hätte ich mir noch ein wenig mehr Abwechslung und Besonderheiten gewünscht. Die Stimme von Ryan Knutson ist grandios und heben die Songs auf ein höheres Level. Und auch sonst gibt es rein technisch nix zu meckern. Die Männer beherrschen ihre musikalischen Waffen tadellos. Insgesamt ein sehr gelungenes Album, dass eine klare Steigerung darstellt. Und darauf kann MARCH IN ARMS doch super weiter aufbauen.
