Gleich zu Beginn des Jahres geht es schon mit Top-Veröffentlichungen los. Da kommt Freude auf! Das neue Jahr beginnt jedenfalls nicht leise. So viel habe ich schon festgestellt. FOR I AM KING (Facebook) sind eine niederländische Band, die Euch kompromisslosen Metalcore um die Ohren ballern. Ihr neues Album „Crown“ erscheint am 19.01.’23. Thematisch geht es darum, was passiert, wenn Menschen zu viel Macht besitzen. Meistens kommt dabei nichts gutes rum. Die Geschichte hat es oft genug demonstriert.

Ein Orkan

FOR I AM KING machen keine Gefangenen. Hier gibt es von Anfang bis Ende satte Metalcore Smasher vor den Kopf geknallt. Rein technisch bewegt sich die Band dabei auf hohem Niveau. Die Vehemenz ist tatsächlich sehr beeindruckend. Hier fliegen die Fetzen! Das ist wie Duschen unterm Sandstrahler und fräst Dir die Haut von den Knochen. Eine stumpfe Vorstellung ist es dennoch nicht. Die Songs sind trotzdem sehr melodisch komponiert. Die Gitarren trumpfen nicht nur mit massivem Riffing, auch die Leadgitarre ist ein Gedicht und begeistert immer wieder aufs neue. Daneben wimmelt es nur so von Tempiwechseln, die den Flow aber nicht untergraben.

Für Sängerin Alma Alizadeh fällt mir nur ein Vergleich ein: Sie ist ein wahrer Orkan. Sie wirbelt nur so durch die Songs, dass einem schwindelig wird (im positiven Sinne natürlich). Beispiel gefällig? Hier ist der Song „Liars“. Mit mehr Wut kann man kaum in einen Song einsteigen. Aber der Song hat so viel mehr zu bieten. Es ist der Wahnsinn, was die Band hier alles in den Song reingepackt hat. Das ist die hohe Kunst der Zerstörung!

Epische Momente

FOR I AM KING haben ein durch und durch energisches Konzept, dass sehr wohl durchdacht ist. Neben maximal wütenden Passagen gibt es sogar fast epische Momente, in denen man es etwas zurückhaltender angeht und den Melodien den Vorzug gibt. Dies passiert vorrangig dann, wenn die melodischen Leads ihr zauberhaftes Spiel entfalten. „Sinners“ ist dafür auf jeden Fall ein Beispiel, welches epische Momente schenkt. Das folgende „Bloodline“ geht noch einen Schritt weiter und offenbart sogar balladeske Züge. Und das funktioniert auch ohne cleane Vocals. Die findet man hier auf dem Album ohnehin nicht.

„Trojans“ steigt symphonisch ins Geschehen ein, wird aber sehr schnell zu einem wilden Ungetüm, dass alles niederreißt. Hier werden die hervorragenden Skills der Band mehr als deutlich zum Ausruck gebracht.

Fazit

FOR I AM KING ist mit ihrem dritten Album „Crown“ ein großartiges Album gelungen. Es ist ein umwerfendes Erlebnis, wenn ein grundlegend brutales Konzept mit so viel melodischer Kunst auf einem hohen technischen Level geschmettert wird. Dabei wird auf ein homogenes, aber differenziertes musikalisches Konzept wert gelegt, dass einen feinen Sinn für Details erkennen lässt.

Metalcore

Right at the beginning of the year, it already starts with top releases. That’s where the joy comes in! In any case, the new year is not starting quietly. I have already established that much. FOR I AM KING (Facebook) are a Dutch band that blast uncompromising Metalcore into your ears. Their new album „Crown“ will be released on 19.01.’23. Thematically it is about what happens when people have too much power. Mostly nothing good comes out of it. History has demonstrated it often enough.

A hurricane

FOR I AM KING don’t do things by halves. From the beginning to the end there are full Metalcore smashers straight in you face. Technically, the band moves on a high level. The vehemence is really very impressive. Here the shreds fly! It’s like showering under the sandblaster and it mills the skin from your bones. Nevertheless, it is not a dull performance. The songs are nevertheless very melodically composed. The guitars trump not only with massive riffing, also the lead guitar inspires again and again. In addition, it is teeming with tempo changes, but they do not undermine the flow.

I can only think of one comparison for singer Alma Alizadeh: she is a true hurricane. She whirls through the songs in a way that makes you dizzy (in a positive sense, of course). Example pleasing? Here is the song „Liars“. You can hardly enter a song with more rage. But the song has so much more to offer. It’s insane what the band has packed everything into the song here. This is the high art of destruction!

Epic moments

FOR I AM KING have a thoroughly energetic concept that is very well thought out. In addition to maximally furious passages, there are even almost epic moments in which it is approached a bit more restrained and gives preference to the melodies. This happens primarily when the melodic leads unfold their magic. „Sinners“ is definitely an example of this, giving epic moments. The following „Bloodline“ goes one step further and even reveals ballad-like traits. And that works even without clean vocals. You won’t find them here on the album anyway.

„Trojans“ enters the action symphonically, but very quickly becomes a wild monster that tears everything down. Here the excellent skills of the band are more than clearly expressed too.

Conclusion

FOR I AM KING has succeeded in creating a great album with their third album „Crown“. It is a mind-blowing experience when a fundamentally brutal concept is belted out with so much melodic art on a high technical level. The emphasis is on a homogeneous but differentiated musical concept that reveals a fine sense for details.
