VULVARINE (Facebook) kommen aus Österreich. ( Bitte nicht verwechseln mit Wolverine, auch wenn die Band ebenfalls die Krallen ausfährt). Den ersten Kontakt mit ihnen hatte ich beim Formosa Bierfest 2024 und dort haben die Fans mit ihrer erdigen fetzigen Rockmusik sehr gut unterhalten. Auch abseits der Bühne machte die Band eine äußerst sympathischen Eindruck.

Die Band war auf jeden Fall schon fleißig unterwegs, um ihr Musik live zu präsentieren. VULVARINE teilten die Bühne unter anderem mit den schwedischen Punkrock-Legenden ‚The Baboon Show‘ und den kanadischen Speed-Metal-Pionieren ‚Exciter‘. Im Frühjahr 2025 sind sie als Tour-Support der sensationellen Rockband ‚Thundermother‘ in England und Europa unterwegs. Da kommt das Album „Fast Lane“ genau richtig, um die Fans mit neuem Stoff zu versorgen. Bemerkenswert, dass VULVARINE bereits bei ‚Napalm Records‘ untergekommen sind.

Das Cover-Artwork ist äußerst gelungen und vermittelt das richtige Feeling für das, was man auf dem Album erwarten darf. Selbstbewussten energetischen Rock ’n‘ Roll! Neben einer Powerfrau mit wallender rothaariger Mähne und einem Adler ist sogar der orangene Tourbus der Band ist dort zu entdecken.

VULVARINE laden euch auf die wilde Fahrt ein und lassen mit dem Opener „The Drugs, The Pain, And The Pain“ sofort die Reifen qualmen. Da heißt es schnell anschnallen, denn VULVARINE geben Vollgas. So rocken sich VULVARINE mit diesem Energizer ganz locker in jedes Rockerherz. Hätte nicht erwartet, dass man beim Instrumentalpart beim Gitarrensolo das Tempo kurz mal runterfährt, aber ich finde es witzig und gut gelungen.

VULVARINE wirken im Vergleich zu ihrem ersten Album deutlich erwachsener, obwohl dieses Wort wohl der falsche Begriff ist, denn „erwachsen“ hört sich so vernünftig, so langweilig an. Und langweilig sind VULVARINE sicherlich nicht. Sie haben ihre freche selbstbewusste und zugleich unbeschwerte Art beibehalten, haben ihren Sound aber deutlich angereichert, so dass die neuen Songs ausgereifter und melodisch homogener aufgebaut sind. Dies kommt auch der Eingängigkeit zu Gute. Trotzdem würzen VULVARINE die Songs teils mit feuriger Schärfe und verleiht ihnen mehr Druck bzw. mitreißende Power, können aber auch einfach mit einem lockeren Groove auftrumpfen.

Es gibt etwas, womit ich auf dem Album nie und nimmer gerechnet hätte. Als ich die Klänge von „Cherry Cherry Lady“ hörte, konnte ich es kaum fassen und ich musste erst einmal herzlich lachen. Der damalige Megahit von Modern Talking aus dem Jahre 1985 wurde hier mal auf Rock ’n‘ Roll Niveau geschnitzt. So macht der Song doch gleich viel mehr Spaß und man muss sich nicht schämen, wenn man das Ding laut aufdreht. Eine zusätzliche Veredelung erfährt der Song durch das Gitarrensolo von Filippa Nässil (Thundermother).

Aber VULVARINE rocken auch super mit den eigenen Songs. So ist „Fool“ ist ebenfalls ein potenter Song, der die angenehme Eingängigkeit der Musik repräsentiert. Hier entsteht ein schöner Kontrast zwischen den lässig dargebotenen Strophen und dem schönen melodischen Chorus.

Fazit

VULVARINE veröffentlichen mit „Fast Lane“ ein knackiges Rockalbum, dass mit heißen Songs locker jedes Rockerherz entflammt.

VULVARINE (Facebook) are from Austria. My first contact with the band was at the Formosa Beer Festival 2024, where they entertained the fans with their dirty, groovy rock tunes. The band also made an extremely likeable impression backstage.

The band has definitely been busy on the road to present their music live. VULVARINE have shared the stage with Swedish punk rock legends ‚The Baboon Show‘ and Canadian speed metal pioneers ‚Exciter‘, among others. In spring 2025, they will be on tour supporting the sensational rock band ‚Thundermother‘ in England and Europe. The album „Fast Lane“ comes just in time to provide fans with new material. Remarkably, VULVARINE have already been signed to ‚Napalm Records‘.

The cover artwork is realy cool and conveys the right feeling for what you can expect on the album. Self-confident, energetic rock ’n‘ roll! In addition to a power woman with a flowing red-haired mane and an eagle, you can even spot a hint the band’s orange tour bus.

VULVARINE invite you on a wild ride and immediately you get a flying start with „The Drugs, The Pain, And The Pain“. It’s time to buckle up, because VULVARINE are going full throttle. VULVARINE easily rock their way into every rocker’s heart with this energizer. I didn’t expect them to slow down the tempo for the instrumental part during the guitar solo, but I think it’s funny and well done.

Compared to their first album, VULVARINE seem more sophisticated. They have retained their cheeky, self-confident and at the same time light-hearted style, but have significantly enriched their sound so that the new songs are more mature and melodically more homogeneous. This also benefits the catchiness. Nevertheless, VULVARINE spice up some of the songs with fiery spiciness and give them more pressure or rousing power, but can also simply show off with a relaxed groove.

There is something on the album that I would never have expected. When I suddenly heard the sounds of „Cherry Cherry Lady“, I could hardly believe it and had to laugh a bit. Modern Talking’s 1985 mega-hit had been carved into a rock ’n‘ roll version. It makes the song so much more fun and you don’t have to be ashamed when you turn it up loud. The song is further enhanced by the guitar solo from Filippa Nässil (Thundermother).

But VULVARINE also rock great with their own songs. So „Fool“ is also a potent song that represents the pleasant catchiness of the music. It creates a nice contrast between the casually presented verses and the beautiful melodic chorus.

Conclusion

With „Fast Lane“, VULVARINE release a crisp rock album with hot songs that will easily set every rocker’s heart on fire.
