Hardrock

Francesco Marras (Facebook) ist ein sehr fleißiger Vollblutmusiker. Zunächst einmal ist er als Gitarrist in der Band TYGERS OF PAN TANG tätig. Nebenbei hat er noch die eigene Metalband SCREAMING SHADOWS und als ob das nicht schon genug wäre, ist er auch noch als Solokünstler tätig. In dieser Rolle hat er bereits zwei Intstrumentalalben herausgebracht.

Und nun steht das neue Album „It’s Me“ in den Startlöchern, welches am 15.09.’22 veröffentlicht wird. Diesmal allerdings bleibt es nicht bei einem rein instrumentalen Album, denn nun gibt es das Komplettpaket inklusive Gesang. Francesco feiert damit seine Premiere als Sänger. Alles andere an Instrumenten hat er fast komplett selber übernommen. Bodo Schopf (Michael Schenker Group) hat als ganz spezieller Gastmusiker die Drums bei Track 2 eingespielt. Marco “Lord” Cossu zeichnet sich auf dem Album für die charakteristische Hammond Orgel verantwortlich. Marco Garruciu steuert einige Backing Vocals bei und Emanuele Martinez lässt auf Track 10 die Violine erklingen.

Echt cool

Was kann man von einem Musiker erwarten, der von Rock bis Metal alles Spielarten beherrscht? Für dieses Album gibt es eine satte Ladung coolen Hard Rock. Das Album wird direkt mit scharfen Riffs eingeleitet, die umgehend gute Laune verbreiten. „It’s Me“ ist ein sehr gelungener Einstieg in das Album, bei dem Francesco ebenfalls seine gesanglichen Qualitäten unter Beweis stellt. Und diese sind wirlich nicht schlecht!

Die Stimme könnte für meinen Geschmack an manchen Stellen noch kräftiger und schmutziger klingen, aber generell ist es viel wichtiger, dass sie mit den Songs harmoniert. Und das tut sie auf jeden Fall. Davon kann man sich auch beim Song „Money Talks“ überzeugen, der gekonnt zwischen bedächtigen und fetzigen Passagen wechselt.

Die Hammond Orgel

ist beständiger Teil in den Songs. Die Orgelklänge harmonieren perfekt mit den Songs und ist ein unheimlich wichtiger Bestandteil, da diese den Songs noch mal das gewisse Etwas spendiert. Ich liebe dieses Charisma. Der Sound wird hier selbstverständlich nicht neu erfunden, aber einfach hochprofessionell und unterhaltsam umgesetzt. Das muss man Francesco einfach zugestehen! Varianz der Songs

hervor. Die Songs kopieren sich nicht selbst, sondern haben individuelle Eigenschaften. Dabei stechen manche besonders hervor. Hier sei beispielhaft die fantastische Ballade „Lady Of Ice“ genannt, die für mich sogar einige Uriah Heep-Vibes versprüht. Hier finde ich auch die Gesangsleistung mehr als überzeugend. Das ist definitiv einer meiner Lieblingssongs auf dem Album.

Natürlich darf auch die Leistung der Saiteninstrumente (Gitarre, Banjo, Bass) nicht unerwähnt bleiben. Francescos Leistung ist tadellos. Bei den Gitarren macht ihm sowieso keiner was vor und sie klingen einfach grandios. Sein erfrischendes Gitarrenspiel macht einfach total Spaß. Die Girarrensolos schreddern wie die Hölle, aber Francesco setzt nicht nur auf groovige Riffs und Soli, sondern setzt auch geschickt ruhigere Phasen, was der Atmosphäre sehr gut tut.

Auch der groovige Bass bei der Energiebombe „In The Name Of Rock’n Roll“ ist sehr ansprechend. Und der Coolness-Faktor ist sowieso durchgängig vorhanden. Das gilt auch für den Song „You Set My Heart On Fire“.

Fazit

Francesco hat sich mit seinem Album „It‘ s Me“ einen Traum erfüllt. Und diesen Traum träumen wir gerne mit. „It’s me“ ist ein Album, dem man die Leidenschaft eines tollen Musikers anmerkt. Es ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail komponiert worden. Herausgekommen sind sehr unterhaltsame Songs mit dem Flair der 70`er Jahre, aber auf sehr erfrischende symphatische Art und Weise. Dabei muss Francesco sich keinesfalls hinter den Großen der Szene nicht verstecken. Ganz im Gegenteil. Der Sound hat seinen ganz eigenen Charme, der für Begeisterung sorgt.

Hardrock

Francesco Marras (Facebook) is a very hardworking musician. First of all, he is a guitarist in the band TYGERS OF PAN TANG. On the side he has his own band SCREAMING SHADOWS and as if that wasn’t enough, he is also a solo artist. In this role he has already released two intstrumental albums. And now the new album „It’s Me“ is in the starting blocks.

This time, however, it does not remain with a purely instrumental album, because now there is the complete package including vocals. Francesco celebrates his premiere as a singer. Everything else on instruments he has taken over almost completely himself. Bodo Schopf (Michael Schenker Group) has played the drums on track 2 as a very special guest musician. Marco „Lord“ Cossu is responsible for the characteristic Hammond organ on the album. Marco Garruciu contributes some backing vocals and Emanuele Martinez plays the violin on track 10.

Cool stuff

What can you expect from a musician who masters everything from rock to metal? For this album there is a full load of cool hard rock. The album is directly introduced with sharp riffs, which immediately spread a good mood. „It’s Me“ is a very successful introduction to the album, where Francesco also proves his vocal qualities. And these are really not bad!

The voice could sound more powerful and dirty in some places for my taste, but generally it is much more important that it harmonizes with the songs. And it does that in any case. You can also convince yourself of this with the song „Money Talks“, which skillfully changes between quiet melodic and rocky groovy passages.

The Hammond organ

is a constant part of the songs. The organ sounds harmonize perfectly with the songs and is an incredibly important component, because this gives the songs that special charisma. The sound is not reinvented here, of course, but simply highly professional and entertaining implemented. You just have to give Francesco credit for that!

The variance of the songs

also stands out positively. The songs don’t copy themselves, but have individual characteristics. Thereby some stand out especially. Here is exemplary the fantastic ballad „Lady Of Ice“, which for me even sprays some Uriah Heep vibes. Here I also find the vocal performance more than convincing. This is definitely one of my favorite songs on the album.

Of course, the performance on the stringed instruments (guitar, banjo, bass) should not go unmentioned. Francesco’s performance is impeccable. On the guitars, no one can fool him anyway and they sound simply terrific. His refreshing guitar playing is just totally fun. The girarrensolos shred like hell, but Francesco not only relies on groovy riffs and solos, but also cleverly sets quieter phases, which is very good for the atmosphere.

The groovy bass on the energy bomb „In The Name Of Rock’n Roll“ is also really good. And the coolness factor is immensely present throughout anyway. This also applies to the song „You Set My Heart On Fire“.

Conclusion

Francesco has fulfilled a dream with his album „It’s Me“. And this dream we like to dream with. „It’s me“ is an album that you can feel the passion of a great musician. It has been composed with great attention to detail. The result are very entertaining songs with the flair of the 70’s, but in a very refreshing symphatic way. Francesco does not have to hide behind the greats of the scene. Quite the opposite. The sound has its very own charm that creates excitement.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG (Facebook) sind eine Band mit einer sehr langen Geschichte. Reinrassiger Heavy Metal mit fetziger Rock`n Roll Attitüde erwartet den Hörer. Ihr Debütalbum „Wild Cat“ erblickte 1980 das Licht der Welt. Lang lang ist es her…. Aber wollen nicht länger darüber reden, sondern auf das hier und jetzt schauen. Und hier und jetzt dauert es nicht mehr lange, bis die TYGERS uns mit ihrer neuen EP „A New Heartbeat“ (VÖ 18.02.2022) beehren. Diese soll quasi der Vorbote für den kommende Longplayer der Band sein.

Altes und neues

bieten TYGERS OF PAN TANG auf der neuen EP „A New Heartbeat“. Neuigkeiten gibt es übrigens auch im Bandgefüge. Mit von der Partie sind nun zum einen Francesco Marras als Gitarrist und zum anderen Huw Holding am Bass. Huw hat aber im Gegensatz zu Francesco noch nicht an der EP mitgewirkt.

Auf der EP sind vier Songs vertreten. Dabei sind „Firedown“ und „Killers“ Songs vom damaligen Debütalbum „Wild Cat“ aus dem Jahr 1980. Demgegenüber stehen die neuen Songs „A New Heartbeat“ und „Firedown“. Warum diese Songauswahl? Die Band kommentiert das so:

„Fireclown“ und „Killers“ sind arg vernachlässigte Perlen der TYGERS. Sie werden nur selten live gespielt, aber oft nachgefragt. Also dachten wir, es wäre interessant, eine moderne Version davon zu hören. Eine Reise in die Vergangenheit weckt bei uns und wohl auch bei den TYGERS-Anhängern viele Erinnerungen“.

Was tut diese EP?

Es rockt! Und was tut es noch? Es rockt! So könnte man die Songs zusammenfassen. Erstaunlich ist dabei, dass die Songs von 1980 nach der Herz-OP in Form neu eingespielter Aufnahmen immer noch total frisch und unverbraucht klingen.

„A New Heartbeat“

eröffnet das Songquartett sehr eingängig und lässt das Rockerherz warmlaufen. Tolle Melodien, die sich einschmeicheln und mit einem standesgemäßen Gitarrensolo macht man ohnehin nichts falsch.

Bei „Fireclown“ haben die TYGERS schon einen schnelleren Antritt und die Raubtiere zeigen Zähne. Fetzige Riffs und ein flotter Drumbeat treiben den Song voran. Und wenn mich Gitarrensolos mitreißen, dann solche wie in diesem Lied, die schön scharf und knackig daherkommen. Das ist schon ne belebende Herzmassage.

„Red Mist“ haut mit fetten Riffs durch und „Killers“ sticht mit einem krassen Bass hervor, der einen megamäßigen Drive und Groove innehat. Das Gitarrensolo fetzt wieder wie Sau und geht ab wie Schmidts Katze.

So haben wir eine mehr als gelungene Vorstellung und es macht mich neugierig auf den kommenden Longplayer. Allderdings ist noch kein genaues Veröffentlichungsdatum bekannt.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG (Facebook) are a band with a very long history. Purebred Heavy Metal with a Rock’n’Roll attitude awaits the listener. Their debut album „Wild Cat“ saw the light of day in 1980. Long time ago…. But we don`t want to talk about it any longer, but look at the here and now. And here and now it won’t be long until the TYGERS honor us with their new EP „A New Heartbeat“ (Release 2022-02-18). This is supposed to be the harbinger for the upcoming longplayer of the band.

Old and new

TYGERS OF PAN TANG offer on the new EP „A New Heartbeat“. By the way, there is also something new in the band structure. Francesco Marras as guitarist and Huw Holding on bass are now part of the band. Huw has not yet contributed to the EP. Francesco, on the other hand, has.

Four songs are represented on the EP. „Firedown“ and „Killers“ are songs from the then debut album „Wild Cat“ from 1980. Further there are the new songs „A New Heartbeat“ and „Firedown“. Why this song selection? The band comments like this:

„Fireclown” and “Killers” are much neglected Tygers gems. They are rarely played live but often requested so we thought it would be interesting to hear a modern take on them. Visiting the past brings back so many memories for us and, I’m guessing, for Tygers followers.

What does this EP do?

It rocks! And what else does it do? It rocks! That’s how you could sum up the songs. It is amazing that the songs from 1980 still sound totally fresh and unspent after the heart surgery in the form of new recordings.

„A New Heartbeat“

opens the song quartet very catchy and lets the rocker heart warm up. Great melodies that ingratiate themselves and with a standard guitar solo you do nothing wrong anyway.

With „Fireclown“ the TYGERS already have a faster start and the predators show teeth. Fancy riffs and a snappy drumbeat drive the song forward. And if guitar solos carry me away, then such as in this song, which come along nice sharp and crisp. This is already an invigorating heart massage.

„Red Mist“ hits the ground running with fat riffs and „Killers“ stands out with a killer bass that has a mega drive and groove. The guitar solo shreds like hell and goes off like hell.

So we have a more than successful performance and it makes me curious about the upcoming album. But no exact release date is known yet.
