„Words“.

Man hat sich bei dem Album viele Gedanken gemacht und man könnte es tatsächlich als Konzeptalbum bezeichnen, denn schlussendlich drehen sich alle Songs um Worte. Die Songs beschäftigen sich mit dem, was Worte positives und leider auch negatives bewirken können. Über die verletzende Wirkung von Worten handelt der Song „Words Like Bullets“.

Man merkt gleich weider diese starke Energie, die den Jungs innewohnt und welche sie in ihre Songs reinfeuern. VEX legen los und sofort ist man mittendrin. Und Groove hat der Sound auf alle Fälle. Der Song hat eine sehr eigenwillige Dynamik, die sich auch durch einige Rhythmuswechsel darstellt, aber alles kommt unheimlich spritzig rüber und macht voll Laune. Dafür sorgt ebenso Sänger Andre Schondelmaier, der Euch die Texte in gewohnt energischer Manier entgegenschmettert. Ein Sound, der für die Live-Bühnen gemacht ist und die Fans animieren wird einfach auszuflippen. Überzeugt Euch selbst!

Es knallt

Insgesamt ist das Songmaterial rockiger geworden als beim letzten Album „Golden Times“. Ich würde sagen, dass man nun mehr Punk im Sound hat und es mich stellenweise an die Band RISE AGAINST erinnert, nur kantiger. Und das ist genau der Punkt. Es ist ein Sound mit Ecken und Kanten, wild und ungestüm. Besonders gut macht sich auch der griffige groovige Bass. So etwas mag ich. Die Produktion passt perfekt zur Musik.

Es klingt roh und unverfälscht.

Alles dröhnt trocken und knackig aus den Boxen.

Manchmal habe ich allerdings das Gefühl, dass VEX zuviel wollen und die Songs zu vertrackt werden, was die Gesamtdynamik des Songs etwas hemmt. Zumindest habe ich das bei den Songs „My Shelter“ und „I am ashamed“ so empfunden.

„My shelter“ beginnt als Ballade, wird massiver und geht dann mit der zweiten Minute in einen treibenden rifflastigen Part, der aber nur 40 Sekunden andauert. Denn plötzlich wird man durch eine rein akustische Gesangseinlage hart ausgebremstund für mich den Flow rausnimmt.

„I am ashamed“ ist an sich ein echt cooler Song, aber auch hier nimmt man dem Song nach einer heftigen ersten Minute den Wind aus den Segeln. Ab Ende der zweiten Minute wird es wieder richtig geil. Ein massiver wütender Part bahnt sich seinen Weg, den man noch hätte mehr ausbauen können, denn auch dieser wird wieder abgebrochen, um dann langsam in einen geilen lockeren Rock’n Roll Part überzugehen. Da stecken so viele geile Ideen drin, dass man daraus zwei oder drei Songs machen könnte, um den einzelnen Passagen mehr Raum zu geben.

Fazit

VEX behalten ihren rohen eigenwilligen Sound bei. „Words“ entfesselt energiegeladene Songs, die alle scheppern und einen ordentlichen Punch haben. Es sind Songs, die perfekt für die Live-Bühnen gemacht sind und dort sicherlich für eine mega Stimmung sorgen werden. Da bin ich mir sicher. Mir gefällt das Konzept der Band, was letztlich aufgrund seiner speziellen Erscheinung einen guten Wiedererkennungswert hat. Ich habe sehr viel Spaß mit dem Album und den werdet ihr auch haben. VEX sind auf einem guten Weg und zeigen, was in ihnen steckt. Von dieser wilden Band erwarte ich zukünftig noch so einiges.

Zum Ende einige abschließende Worte

Worte können verletzend sein und sogar beste Freunde unbeabsichtigt in die Feindschaft treiben (Words like Bullets). Worte können helfen, aus dem eigenen Gefängnis auszubrechen (Break out). Die Worte unserer Alltagshelden in der Pflege und Katastrophenschutz scheinen schon vergessen zu sein (Heroes). Worte von oben zertrümmern Schicksale von unten (Powerless). Worte lassen Menschen zueinander finden (My shelter). Nicht alle Worte will man hören (Talking with the dead ones). Worte können an uns abprallen und uns nie erreichen (Wall). Mit den richtigen Worten verhindert man gesellschaftliches Versagen (I am ashamed). Die richtigen Worte motivieren Menschen, für eine Sache zu leben und ihrem Leben einen Sinn zu geben (Would you live like me).

VEX (Facebook/Homepage) come from the German ‚Schwarzwald‘ have invented a new kind of sound for themselves, the so-called groovecore. They had released their last album „Golden Times“ in 2019. The mixture of hard rock and metal was quite innovative and I really had fun with the album. Then there was last year again a sign of life in the form of the single „Talking With The Dead Ones“, which was released in connection with a fundraising campaign for the flood victims in Germany. Now finally appears on 11.11.’22 the new album

„Words“.

A lot of thought has gone into the album and you could actually call it a concept album, because ultimately all the songs revolve around ‚words‘. The songs deal with what words can do positively and unfortunately also negatively. The song „Words Like Bullets“ is about the hurtful effect of words.

You immediately notice the strong energy that is inherent in the guys and which they fire into their songs. VEX start and immediately you are in the middle of it. And the sound has groove in any case. The song has a very unique dynamic, which is also represented by some rhythm changes, but everything comes across incredibly lively and spread good vibes. This is also ensured by singer Andre Schondelmaier, who belts out the lyrics in his usual energetic manner. A sound that is made for the live stages and will animate the fans to simply freak out. Convince yourself!

It bangs

The sound is definitely fun. In fact, I would like to see songs with more harmonies and catchiness here and there to give the sound more flow. Overall, the songs have become rockier than on the last album „Golden Times“. I would say that there is more punk in the sound now and it reminds me of the band RISE AGAINST in places, but edgier. And that’s exactly the point. It is a sound with rough edges, wild and impetuous. The crunchy groovy bass also does particularly well. I like something like that. The production fits the music perfectly.

It is raw and unadulterated.

Everything booms dry and crisp from the speakers. Sometimes I have the feeling that VEX want too much and the songs become too intricate, which inhibits the overall dynamic of the song. At least that’s how I felt about the songs „My Shelter“ and „I am ashamed“.

„My Shelter“ starts as a ballad, becomes more massive and then goes into a driving riff-heavy part with the second minute, but it only lasts 40 seconds. Because suddenly you are slowed down hard by a purely acoustic vocal interlude, which in itself does not sound bad, but for me takes out the flow at this point.

„I am ashamed“ is a really cool song in itself, but even here they take the power out of the song after the first heavy minute. From the end of the second minute it becomes really punchy again. A massive angry part paves its way, which could have been expanded even more, because this is also broken off again, to then slowly go into a horny loose rock’n roll part. There are so many cool ideas in it that you could make two or three songs out of it to give the individual passages more space.

Conclusion

VEX maintain their raw idiosyncratic sound. „Words“ unleashes energetic songs that all rattle and pack a decent punch. These are songs made primarily for live stages and are sure to set the mood. I’m sure of it. I like the concept of the band, which ultimately has a good recognition value due to its special appearance. Ich habe sehr viel Spaß mit dem Album und den werdet ihr auch haben. VEX are on a good way and show what they are made of. You can still expect a lot from this wild bunch.

Comment of the band on the album „Bullets

mit deutschen Texten ist immer noch die Ausnahme. TODSÜNDE (Facebook ) tun etwas dagegen. Und das mit viel Wucht, wie es sich für eine anständige Metalcore-Band gehört. Also wem EISBRECHER, MEGAHERZ und Konsorten zu soft geworden sind, dem sei TODSÜNDE wärmstens ans Herz gelegt. „Geistesgift“ heißt das Debütalbum, welches am 07.05.2021 in die Welt geschrien wird. Ihr könnt Euch auf starke Songs freuen, die ganz geradeaus ohne Umschweife in die Fresse gehen. Missverständnisse über die Messages gibt es jedenfalls keine. Also lassen wir die Abrissbirne mal einschlagen…

„Wir Spielen Gott“

ist der eindrucksvolle Opener, der direkt alles richtig macht. Brachialer Sound mit fettesten Riffs, erschütternden Drums und gewaltigen Bassschwingungen. Über dem Ganzen thront Sänger Erik Kremer mit seiner kompromisslosen aggressiven Stimme, der Euch die Songzeilen quasi ins Gehör hämmert. Zudem begeistern prachtvolle Breakdowns. „Wir Spielen Gott“ ist ein perfekte Ansage! Dafür sprechen auch die fast 35.000 Views in acht Wochen mit einem Video, dass genauso wie der Sound knallhart die dunkle, hässliche und abstoßende Seite der Menschen vor Augen führt.

Englische Songs

sind ebenfalls auf dem Album vertreten. „Sell Yourself“ und „Doubt Their Reasons“ gehen dann mehr in Richung Groove-Core und kommen auch echt fett rüber, aber ich sehe die Stärken von TODSÜNDE eher im deutschsprachigen Segment. Es ist eine Besonderheit, die man fördern sollte. Metalcore in englischer Sprache gibt es wahnsinnig viel und es sind auch wirklich viele sehr hochkarätige Bands dabei, wobei die Gefahr besteht, dass man in das gleiche Haifischbecken geschmissen wird und es erheblich schwerer fällt sich dort durchzubeißen und zu behaupten. Trotzdem sind die Songs alles andere als schlecht und von daher hier das Video zu „Sell Yourself“.

„Auge um Auge“

lässt mit Erdbebenriffs die Trommelfelle erzittern. Agile Leads über dem Trommelgewitter versorgen den Song mit einer besonderen Note. Dann wird plötzlich gnadenlos nach vorne marschiert. Ein sehr intensiver atmosphärischer Song.

„Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht“ donnert mit voller Breitseite ins Gehör. So gefällt mir das! Gesellschaftskritische Themen unmissverständlich und aggressiv mit dem Dampfhammer vor den Kopf geknallt. Allerdings schlägt der Song zwischendurch auch mal ein paar ruhigere melodische Momente an. Alles in allem wieder ein Song, der es einem richtig besorgt und tut, was er soll, nämlich: AUFRÜTTELN!

Fazit

TODSÜNDE haben mit „Geistesgift“ im Steinbruch ein bretthartes Album aus dem Fels gehauen. Ein grobes und rohes Album, dass zu gefallen weiß und aufrüttelt. Hier und da fehlt es ein wenig an Feinschliff, aber mit ihrem Debüt „Geistesgift“ hat man einen soliden Grundstein gelegt. Ich denke, dass TODSÜNDE in Zukunft nicht zu überhören sein werden.

English songs

are also represented on the album. „Sell Yourself“ and „Doubt Their Reasons“ then go more in the direction of groove-core and also come across really fat, but I see the strengths of TODSÜNDE rather in the German-language segment. It is a speciality that should be promoted. Metalcore in English language is insanely much and there are also really many very high-carat bands, whereby the danger exists that one is thrown into the same shark tank and it is considerably more difficult to bite through and assert oneself there. Nevertheless, the songs are anything but bad and therefore here is the video of „Sell Yourself“.

„Auge um Auge“

makes the eardrums tremble with earthquake riffs. Agile leads above the drum storm provide the song with a special note. Then suddenly mercilessly marches forward. A very intense atmospheric song.

„Mensch Ärgere Dich Nicht“ thunders into the ear with a full broadside. That’s how I like it! TODSÜNDE have hewn with „Geistesgift“ in the quarry a hard album from the rock. A rough and raw album that knows how to please and shake up. Here and there it lacks a little polish, but with their debut „Geistesgift“ they have laid a solid foundation. I think we will hear a lot of TODSÜNDE in the future.
