Der Extreme Metal Act PAINDEMONIUM (Facebook) wird dieses Jahr noch das Album „Latent“ veröffentlichen. Der genaue Termin steht allerdings noch nicht fest. Bisher gibt es zwei Singles, die eine unterschiedliche musikalische Herangehensweise offenbaren. Mastermind Raafat „Raaf“ Atasi, kurz Raaf Ata, als Gitarrist und Sänger hat zusammem mit seinem Bassisten Yazan Ju für das neue Album eine Reihe hochklassiger Gäste eingeladen, die für eine niveauvolle abwechslungsreiche Unterhaltung sorgen sollen. Wie vielseitig dabei zu Werke gegangen wird, zeigen die beiden bisher veröffentlichten Singles und auch die Schar der Gastmusiker, welche an diesem Album mitgewirkt haben. Die erste Single „All Hail The Despot“

ist ein erbarmungslos vernichtendes Konstrukt, dass sich aus den härtesten und dunkelsten Elementen bedient. Eine progressive Mischung aus Black, Death und Thrash wird auf technisch anspruchsvollen Niveau serviert.

Die Geschichte des Albums

„Latent“ ist ein Konzeptalbum. Eine epische Reise, die die Menschheit, sowohl als Spezies als auch als Ideologie, aus der Perspektive des Protagonisten (The Latent) erforscht, dessen Identität im Laufe der Geschichte enthüllt werden wird. Das Album schildert die tief verwurzelte Neigung der Menschen zu Grausamkeiten im Laufe der Jahrhunderte und bis in die heutige Zeit. Und es endet mit einer persönlichen Interpretation des Schicksals der Menschheit, wenn die gleichen Muster fortbestehen.

Jeder Song liefert den thematischen Soundtrack für die ausgewählten „Szenen“. Folglich wird eine Mischung aus verschiedenen Subgenres in das Album integriert, um eine Klanglandschaft zu schaffen, die hilft, die Geschichte zu erzählen und ihr die richtige dramatische Textur zu geben. Damit sind wir dann auch bei der neuen Single

„Conflation“.

Tim „Ripper“ Owens sollte jedem ein Begriff sein. Er war unter anderem Sänger bei Judas Priest, Iced Earth, Yngwie Malmsteen. Aktuell ist er bei der Band KKs Priest aktiv. Er ist ein grandioser Sänger, den man aber wohl nicht bei einem Extreme Metal Act erwarten würde. Und doch leiht er dem Song „Conflation“ seine Stimme und liefert sich ein Duell mit den brutalen Growls von Raaf. Eine ganz spezielle Mischung, die aber tatsächlich hervorragend funktioniert und eine besondere Atmosphäre entstehen lässt, die der Geschichte des Songs sehr dienlich ist. Ein super Beispiel für die Vielseitigkeit von PAINDEMONIUM und den Mut auch ungewöhnliche Wege zu gehen.

Die Musiker auf dem Album „Latent“

Bana Salman ist eine Virtuosin am Klavier. Für die Songs „The Emanation“, „Hypgnosis“ und „Derelict“ sorgt sie für die passende Stimmung. Sie hat einen eigenen YouTube-Kanal, wo man auch ihre Piano-Metal-Cover bewundern kann.

Stefan Nordström (Soliloquium, Desolator , Ending Quest, Ashes of Life) hat mit Raaf bei der Band Anomic gearbeitet. Stefan demonstriert seine brüllenden Growls als Backing Vocals auf dem Track ‚Cryogenized in Black‘, der eine zutiefst bedrohliche Stimmung erzeugt. Bei dem Song „Dazed by Equivocation“ übernimmt Helios Atum den Gesang , während Raaf die Backing Vocals beisteuert. Jedenfalls ist das Vocal Cover von Shadow Of Intent eine echt krasse Darbietung. Und das ist schon drei Jahre her!

Jake Shuker (Nargate, Maysaloon) kommt aus dem Black Metal und ist als Gastschredder auf dem Song ‚Disharmony of Spheres‘ vertreten.

Rami H. Mustafa ist als Gastgitarrist auf dem Song ‚Hypgnosis‘ zu hören. Raaf schwärmt bei seinem Mitwirken von einem sorgfältig konstruierten und kontrollierten melodischen Chaos, das von einem verrückten Genie orchestriert wurde. Hier eine kleine Kostprobe.

Inge Rijnja ist Sopranistin und Gesangslehrerin und bekannt für ihre Rollen in den Rockoperas des niederländischen Progressive-Metal-Ensembles Magoria und als Backgroundsängerin von Robby Valentine. Sie liefert einige atemberaubende Soprane und Gesänge auf den Songs ‚The Emanation‘ und ‚Hypgnosis‘. Der Einsatz von weiblichem Gesang ist etwas, das PAINDEMONIUM zum ersten Mal ausprobiert haben. Inges Stimme soll der Geschichte eine emotionale und unheimliche Textur verleihen.

Dann wäre da noch Mohamed Salama, der als zweiter Gitarrist auf dem Album mitgewirkt hat und wer ein wenig aufgepasst hat, dem dürfte aufgefallen sein, dass noch jemand fehlt. Bisher wurde nämlich kein Drummer erwähnt. Und das ist Krzysztof Klingbein, der hier als Session-Drummer seine Prügelkünste zur Show stellt. Hier könnt ihr ihn bei einem Drum-Playthrough-Video zur ersten Single bewundern. Ein echte Maschine! Ich bin von der Geschwindigkeit und Präzision unglaublich beeindruckt. Wahnsinn!

The extreme metal act PAINDEMONIUM (Facebook) will release the album „Latent“ this year. However, the exact date has not yet been set. First single „All Hail The Despot“

is a mercilessly destructive attack that draws on the heaviest and darkest elements. A progressive mixture of black, death and thrash is served at a technically demanding level.

The story of the album

„Latent“ is a concept album. An epic journey that explores humanity, both as a species and as an ideology, from the perspective of the protagonist (The Latent) whose identity will be revealed throughout history. The album depicts mankind’s deep-rooted propensity for cruelty throughout the centuries and up to the present day. And it ends with a personal interpretation of the fate of humanity if the same patterns persist.

Each song provides the thematic soundtrack for the selected „scenes“. Consequently, a mixture of different sub-genres are incorporated into the album to create a soundscape that helps to tell the story and give it the right dramatic texture. Which brings us to the new single.

„Conflation“.

Tim „Ripper“ Owens should be familiar to every metal fan. He was a singer with Judas Priest, Iced Earth and Yngwie Malmsteen, among others. He is currently active in the band KKs Priest. He’s a terrific singer, but you wouldn’t expect to hear him in an extreme metal act. And yet he lends his voice to the song „Conflation“ and fights a duel with Raaf’s brutal growls. A very special mixture, but one that actually works brilliantly and creates a special atmosphere that serves the story of the song very well. A great example of PAINDEMONIUM’s versatility and the courage to take unusual paths.

The musicians on „Latent“

Bana Salmanis a virtuoso on the piano. She sets the right mood for the songs „The Emanation“, „Hypgnosis“ and „Derelict“. She has her own YouTube channel, where you can also admire her piano metal covers.

Stefan Nordström (Soliloquium, Desolator , Ending Quest, Ashes of Life) has worked with Raaf in the band Anomic. Stefan demonstrates his roaring growls as backing vocals on the track ‚Cryogenised in Black‘, which creates a deeply menacing mood. On the song „Dazed by Equivocation“ Helios Atum takes over the vocals, while Raaf contributes the backing vocals. In any case, the vocal cover of Shadow Of Intent is a really great performance. And that was three years ago!

Jake Shuker (Nargate, Maysaloon) comes from black metal and is featured as a guest shredder on the song ‚Disharmony of Spheres‘.

Rami H. Mustafa can be heard as guest guitarist on the song ‚Hypgnosis‘. Raaf raves about his contribution as a carefully constructed and controlled melodic chaos orchestrated by a mad genius. Here’s a little awesome show of his skills.

Inge Rijnja is a soprano and vocal coach known for her roles in the rock operas of Dutch progressive metal ensemble Magoria and as backing vocalist for Robby Valentine. She delivers some stunning sopranos and vocals on the songs ‚The Emanation‘ and ‚Hypgnosis‘. The use of female vocals is something PAINDEMONIUM have tried for the first time. Inge’s voice is said to add an emotional and eerie texture to the story.

Then there’s Mohamed Salama, who was the second guitarist on the album, and if you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed that someone else is missing. No drummer has been mentioned so far. And that’s Krzysztof Klingbein, who shows off his drumming skills here as a session drummer. Here you can admire him in a drum playthrough video for the first single. A real machine! I’m incredibly impressed by the speed and precision. Insane!
