Hochmelodischer Symphonic-Metal

METALWINGS (Facebook, Homepage ) aus Bulgarien sind mir zum ersten Mal vor 6 Jahren mit ihrer Single „Crying Of The Sun“ aufgefallen. Der Song ist für mich immer noch ein Highlight ohne Verfallsdatum und ich höre ihn mir immer noch gerne an. Und damit stehe ich nicht alleine, denn der Clip wurde bereits 29 Mio. Mal angesehen. Wahnsinn!

Dazu gab es 2016 eine EP „Fallen Angel In Hell“ und danach folgte 2018 mit „For All Beyond“ der erste Longplayer, der auch schon sehr zu gefallen wusste. Der Symphonic-Metal von METALWINGS kommt nicht auf einer monstermäßigen niederschmetternden Bombastwelle daher. Sie gehen etwas filigraner an die Kompositionen heran. Das heißt aber nicht, dass es hier an Energie fehlen würde. Denn die ist zweifelsohne ebenfalls vorhanden, aber eben gepaart mit verdammt viel Gefühl. Jetzt also die Vorstellung des neuen Albums bei ‚metal-heads.de‘.

„A Whole New Land“

11 Songs mit einer sehr beachtlichen Spielzeit von über einer Stunde wollen den Hörer fesseln. Das ist ein Unterfangen, welches nicht einfach zu meistern ist! Doch legen wir zunächst einmal das Augenmerk auf den Titel des Albums und dem schön gestalteten aussagekräftigen Cover. Im Vordergrund farblich abgehoben vom tristen dystopischen Hintergrund stehen Nutztiere, Raubtiere und mittendrin auch ein Kind. Daraus kann man sich schon mal das eine oder andere ableiten.

Symphonie pur

Das Album wird mit dem Titeltrack „A Whole New Land“ eingeleitet. Es ist ein unendlich episches Symphoniemeisterwerk. Der Song breitet seine epischen Flügel aus und trägt mich umgehend in die bezaubernde musikalische Welt von METALWINGS. In über acht Minuten verzaubern Euch METALWINGS nach allen Regeln der symphonischen Kunst. Und auch wenn ich eingangs erwähnte, dass der Sound nicht so brachial klingt (wie z.B. bei der Band ELEINE), so fehlt es den Songs nicht an Kraft und Durchzug. METALWINGS haben eben nur eine andere Art der stilistischen Umsetzung.

Der METALWINGS-Adler lässt Euch daher oft genug seine Kraft spüren und nimmt Euch auf seinen mächtigen Schwingen mit auf die Reise . Kraftvoll und mystisch dunkel präsentiert sich der Song

„Monster In The Mirror“.

Neben der Violine wird auch dem Klavier eine wichtige Rolle im Soundgewand eingeräumt. Der Song wartet zudem noch mit einer Besonderheit, da der engelsgleiche Gesang von Stela mit männlichen Growls eine Symbiose eingeht. Da geht es tatsächlich zwischendurch ordentlich zur Sache. Doch das bemerkenswerte daran ist: Es ist immer eine Eleganz vorhanden! Diese Verweben der klassischen symphonischen Instrumente in dem Song ist überragend. Bis hin zum einem verdammt guten Gitarrensolo ist alles da, was das Herz begehrt. Mindestens genauso beeindruckend ist das Video zu dem Song, das wirklich aufwendig gemacht ist und eine Geschichte zu erzählen hat.

Eine perfekte Symbiose

erschaffen METALWINGS auf ihre ganz eigene besondere Art und Weise. (Die deutsche Band THANATEROS fällt mir dazu spontan noch ein, die eine tolle Symbiose von Violine und Metal in sich vereinen.)

Ich mache auch kein Geheimnis daraus, dass mir die Violine eines der liebsten klassischen Instrumente ist. Es ist ein unendlich gefühlvolles Instrument, dass gerade aber auch in Verbindung mit dem Metal-Sound eine besondere Kraft verkörpern kann. Es ist in der Lage vielfältige Emotionen zu erzeugen. Und neben dem fabelhaften Gesang vermag Stela den Hörer mit ihrem Violinenspiel zu verzaubern. Begleitet wird sie dabei von ihrer Band, die allesamt einen hervorragenden Job machen und beste niveauvolle Unterhaltung bieten. Auch das oft verwendete Klavier unterstützt den klassisch melodiösen Charakter zusätzlich.

Der zauberhafte Gesang

wirkt nie aufdringlich oder aufgesetzt und die opernhafte Note ist meiner Meinung nach genau richtig dosiert und nicht zu dominant. Ein Maximum an Gefühl (z.B. „Still Believe In Us“) prägt ihre Sangeskunst und wird Eure Seelen nicht nur berühren, sondern durchfluten. Dies gelingt Stela gleichermaßen wunderbar in ihrer Landessprache beim letzten Song „Milo Moe Libe“, der zudem noch mit einer folkloristischen Komponente versehen ist. Bei dem Song ertönen mystische Töne, die ich einer Panflöte zuordnen würde und dem Song eine ganz exklusive Note schenkt.

„Silence“ beispielsweise spielt mit ruhigen pianounterlegten wunderschönen Gesangspassagen, die geschickt mit treibenden harten Passagen interagieren, die sogar ins wilde abdriften. Das kann man nicht besser machen! Eine unglaubliche Erfahrung.

Fazit

METALWINGS haben mit „A Whole New Land“ das melodischste Album erschaffen, was ich seit langem gehört habe. Auch wenn das letzte Album bereits gut war, so haben sie mit „A Whole New Land“ einen Riesensprung nach vorne gemacht und haben Ihren Sound auf eine neue Ebene transportiert. Es sind alles phantastische Lieder auf diesem Album, die den Hörer einfach nicht mehr loslassen.

Ich habe das Album trotz seiner sehr opulenten Spielzeit schon sooft von vorne bis hinten durchgehört und ich werde nicht müde es zu hören. Durch die Progressivität stellt sich nie Eintönigkeit ein und es gibt so viele Details, die entdeckt werden wollen. Ich persönlich hätte mir noch ein wenig mehr die Einbindung des männlichen Gesangs gewünscht, aber das schmälert in keiner Weise die Qualität dieses Albums.

Jeder, der auf hochmelodischen Symphonic-Metal steht, muss dieses Album einfach lieben. Für mich in diesem Bereich ein klarer Anwärter auf das Album des Jahres.

High melodic Symphonic-Metal

METALWINGS (Facebook, Homepage ) from Bulgaria caught my attention for the first time 6 years ago with their single „Crying Of The Sun“. The song is still a highlight for me without expiration date and I still like to listen to it. And I’m not alone with that, because the clip has already been viewed 29Mio times. Absolutely awesome!

In addition, there was an EP in 2016 and then followed with „For All Beyond“ the first long player, which was also very pleasing.The symphonic metal of METALWINGS does not come along on a monstrous knockdown bombast wave. They approach the compositions a bit more filigree. But that doesn’t mean that there is a lack of energy here. Because that is undoubtedly present, but paired with a lot of feeling. So now the presentation of the new album at ‚metal-heads.de‘.

„A Whole New Land“

11 songs with a very considerable playing time of over an hour want to entertain the listener. This is an undertaking that is not easy to master! But let’s first focus on the title of the album and the beautifully designed expressive cover. In the foreground colorfully lifted from the dreary dystopian background are farm animals, predators and in the middle of it also a child. From this you can already deduce one or the other.

Pure Symphony

The album opens with the title track, „A Whole New Land“. It is an infinitely epic symphonic masterpiece. The song spreads its epic wings and immediately carries me into the enchanting musical world of METALWINGS. In over eight minutes METALWINGS enchant you according to all rules of symphonic art. And even if I mentioned at the beginning that the sound doesn’t sound as brute (as e.g. with the band ELEINE), the songs don’t lack power and drive. METALWINGS just have a different way of stylistic realization. The METALWINGS eagle therefore lets you feel its power often enough and the strong claws drill into your hearing and simply pull you along. Powerful and mystically dark presents the song

„Monster In The Mirror“.

In addition to the violin, the piano is also given an important role in the sound garment. The song also waits with a special feature, because the angelic vocals of Stela with male growls enters into a symbiosis. There it actually goes in between already properly to the thing. But the remarkable thing is: There is always an elegance! This interweaving of classical symphonic instruments in the song is outstanding. Up to a damn good guitar solo everything is there what the heart desires. At least as impressive is the video for the song, which is really elaborately done and has a story to tell.

A perfect symbiosis

METALWINGS create in their own special way. (The German band THANATEROS spontaneously comes to mind, who combine a great symbiosis of violin and metal).

I also make no secret of the fact that the violin is one of my favorite classical instruments. It is an infinitely soulful instrument that can embody a special power, especially in connection with the metal sound. It is able to create a variety of emotions. And besides the fabulous singing Stela is able to enchant the listener with her violin playing. She is accompanied by her band, who all do an excellent job and offer the best level entertainment. Also the often used piano supports the classically melodic character additionally. The Song „Silence“, for example, plays with quiet piano-underlaid beautiful vocal passages that cleverly interact with driving hard passages that even drift into the wild. You can’t do better than that! An incredible experience.

The magical singing

of Stela is angelic. It never seems obtrusive or put on and the operatic note is dosed just right and not too dominant. A maximum of feeling (e.g. „Still Believe In Us“) characterizes her vocal artistry and will not only touch your souls, but flood them. Stela succeeds equally wonderfully in her native language in the last song „Milo Moe Libe“, which is also provided with a folkloric component. In the song, mystical tones can be heard, which I would assign to a pan flute and gives the song a very exclusive touch.

Result

METALWINGS have created with „A Whole New Land“ the most melodic album I have heard in a long time. Even though the last album was already good, they have taken a giant leap forward with „A Whole New Land“ and have transported their sound to a new level. There are fantastic songs on this album that just won’t let me go.

I have listened to the album so many times from front to back despite its very opulent playing time and I never tire of listening to it. I am also not able to point out highlights, because really all songs are masterful and enchanting. Due to a high degree of progressiveness, monotony never sets in and there are so many details that want to be discovered. Personally, I would have liked to see a bit more of the inclusion of male vocals, but that in no way detracts from the quality of this album.

Anyone who likes highly melodic symphonic metal simply has to love this album. For me in this genre a clear contender for the album of the year.
