MH: Willkommen zum Interview bei `metal-heads.de‘! PRIMAL CREATION (Facebook, Bandcamp ) ist eine junge Band. Ihr habt seit 2014 ein stabiles Line-Up. Im Jahr 2017 habt Ihr Euer Debüt „Demockracy“ veröffentlicht. Es erhielt eine gute Resonanz. 2019 durfte PRIMAL CREATION nach deren Sieg beim belgischen Wacken Metal Battle Finale sogar die Bühne auf dem Wacken Open Air Festival abbrennen.
Würdest Du zustimmen, dass PRIMAL CREATION einen sehr guten Start hingelegt haben?

KOEN: Danke für Euer Interesse an Primal Creation! Unser Start hätte in der Tat schlechter sein können. „Demockracy“ wurde sehr gut aufgenommen. Sogar jetzt sehen wir, wie Leute auf der ganzen Welt im News Feed reagieren und sich daran erinnern, dass sie „Demockracy“ 2017 sehr gemocht haben, was ziemlich cool zu hören und zu lesen ist.

Wacken war natürlich ein absoluter Höhepunkt in unserem Lauf mit „Demockracy“. Beim größten Metalfestival Europas zu spielen, ist ziemlich verrückt und unfassbar. Man muss sich das so vorstellen: Wir sind nicht nur Metal-Musiker, sondern auch sehr große Metalfans. Auf dem Festival zu spielen, das wir alle schon besucht haben, um unsere Helden zu sehen, ist eine ziemlich unwirkliche Erfahrung! Übrigens auch eine sehr motivierende.

WACKEN OPEN AIR 2019

MH: Es war das letzte WACKEN OPEN AIR im Jahr 2019, bevor die Pandemiekrise eintrat. Das WACKEN OPEN AIR ist eines der größten Open-Air-Festival der Welt!
Wie haben PRIMAL CREATION ihren Auftritt dort empfunden?

KOEN: Wir waren für den Mittwoch um 22 Uhr eingeplant. Das Wetter an dem Wochenende war allerdings prekär. Den ganzen Tag war es unsicher, ob alles wie geplant über die Bühne gehen kann. Letztendlich konnten wir 40 Minuten später als geplant auf die Bühne gehen. Der Soundcheck war super. Dann startete Clint unser Intro-Sample und wir begannen zu spielen… BOOM, plötzlich war der Sound auf der Bühne totaler Mist! Zum Glück wurde der Sound während des 30-minütigen Sets viel besser und wir gaben trotzdem unser Bestes.

Das Zelt, in dem wir spielten, war ziemlich voll und es gab zwei Moshpits, die ständig in vollem Gange waren. Es war eine tolle, adrenalingeladene Erfahrung für uns alle fünf. Wir haben von unserer Crew gehört, dass die Leute, die während unserer Show vorbeikamen, stehen blieben, um uns auf der Leinwand außerhalb des Zeltes zu sehen. Danach und später während des Festivals bekamen wir gute Reaktionen von der Menge und auch von den Leuten zu Hause, die den Stream schauten. Wahrlich einmalig im Leben!

Träume werden wahr

MH: Ihr seid sicher nicht nur für die Dauer Ihres Auftritts dort geblieben.
Nein, wir haben das ganze Festival als Künstler genossen; eine tolle Erfahrung, muss ich sagen.
Was habt ihr dort sonst noch gemacht? Was waren die anderen Highlights beim WOA neben eurem Auftritt (After-Show-Partys, Auftritte anderer Bands etc.)?

KOEN: Da wir alle TESTAMENT-Fans sind, haben wir ihre Show sehr genossen. Ich persönlich habe Mr. Tom Englund und Mr. Henrik Danhage von EVERGREY backstage getroffen. EVERGREY ist eine Band, die ich seit etwa 20 Jahren verfolge und höre. Das war eine wunderbare Erfahrung. Die Bier- und Metal-Afterpartys im VIP-Bereich waren auch ziemlich unvergesslich!

Totalausfall

MH: Und dann kam das Jahr 2020 mit der durch Covid 19 ausgelösten Pandemiekrise. Wahrscheinlich hätte niemand gedacht, dass sich diese verfluchte Epidemie so lange hinziehen würde.
Wie seid Ihr am Anfang damit umgegangen und wie seht Ihr die Situation aktuell?

KOEN: Ich denke, wie bei vielen Menschen war am Anfang auch bei uns die Unsicherheit groß, nicht zu wissen, was passieren würde. Nach einer Weile wurden wir frustriert, weil wir nicht mehr proben konnten, und auch nicht mehr in der Lage waren, uns zu treffen.

MH: Wie ist die Situation in Belgien?

KOEN: Die Ansteckungszahlen sind nicht gut, aber im Vergleich zu den Nachbarländern auch nicht die schlechtesten. Was man allerdings sieht, ist, dass es die Gesellschaft mehr denn je spaltet. Verschwörungstheorien greifen um sich. In so einer Krise kann man nicht alle bei Laune halten. Was wir als Band natürlich hoffen, ist, dass es in naher Zukunft wieder Proben und Liveshows geben wird.

MH: Gibt es Licht am Ende des Tunnels?

KOEN: Die Impfungen sind auf dem Vormarsch und das ist wirklich der richtige Weg. Ich arbeite im Gesundheitswesen, ich habe also bereits meinen Impfstoff bekommen. Wir hoffen wirklich, dass wir schnell eine hohe Schutzrate in der Gesellschaft erreichen, so dass wir wieder Dinge tun können, die unser Leben aufpeppen!

Ausgebremst

MH: COVID 19 war nicht die einzige Tragödie im Jahr 2020. Du hast Dir die Hüfte gebrochen.
Dürfen wir erfahren, wie es zu dem tragischen Unfall kam?

KOEN: Ich fahre gerne mit meinem Rennrad, um mich fit zu halten. An einem Sonntagmorgen im Januar 2020 fuhr ich von zu Hause los, um mit meinem Verein zu fahren. Ich war noch nicht am Treffpunkt angekommen, als ein unbekannter Fahrer vor mir – es war sonst niemand da – in einer Kurve wegen Eis auf der Straße ausrutschte und stürzte. Ich war direkt hinter ihm und konnte nicht mehr ausweichen. Beim Bremsen in einem Reflex rutschte auch mein Hinterrad weg und ich fiel hart auf die Hüfte. Ich hörte ein trockenes Knacken und konnte nicht mehr aufstehen. Die Radiologie im Krankenhaus machte deutlich, dass ich mir den größten Knochen in meinem Körper gebrochen hatte. Ein paar Stunden nach dem Sturz war ich schon im OP und die Ärzte setzten den Knochen mit drei großen Schrauben zusammen – wie metallisch! Haha.

MH: Bist Du wieder vollständig genesen?

KOEN: Ja, im Januar 2021 haben die Ärzte die Schrauben entfernt und ich bin komplett schmerzfrei und habe meine ganze Freiheit und Bewegung zurück! Es war ein langer Weg der Genesung, aber ich kann sagen, dass ich mich vollständig von der Fraktur erholt habe!

Rückhalt und Wertschätzung

MH: Wie gehen Sie mit solch harten Rückschlägen um, die einen so rigoros ausbremsen?

KOEN: Frustration, aber letztendlich Akzeptanz und weitermachen! Die Aufnahmen waren bereits in dem Moment geplant, als ich meinen Unfall hatte. Zum Glück ist das Studio, in dem wir aufgenommen haben, ganz in der Nähe und der Besitzer/Produzent Francis ist ziemlich flexibel.
Außerdem habe ich Glück, dass mein Partnerin, mein Bruder und meine Eltern mir geholfen haben, so gut sie konnten. Das war nicht einfach, vor allem für meine Partnerin, da wir einen kleinen Jungen haben, der auch Aufmerksamkeit und Pflege braucht, und ihr Job ging natürlich auch nicht weiter. Die ersten 4 bis 8 Wochen konnte ich buchstäblich nichts tun. Viel Liebe und Wertschätzung für sie!

Metal und andere Musik

MH: „News Feed“ zeigt wie „Demockracy“ Eure Vorliebe für die dunkle Seite. Diese präsentiert sich auf „News Feed“ mitunter durch fiese dunkle Growls, die Koen aus tiefster Kehle hervorholt. Das wirft die Frage auf:
Wo liegen Deine musikalischen Vorlieben neben dem Thrash Metal?

KOEN: Wenn ich für mich selbst spreche, ist Metal in all seinen Formen und Ausprägungen das Hauptgericht meiner musikalischen Ernährung, und das gilt im übertragenen Sinne für alle Bandmitglieder. Daneben genießen wir aber auch viele andere Musik. Zum Beispiel mögen einige von uns Jazz und in letzter Zeit bin ich wieder ganz vernarrt in JOHNNY CASHs Musik. Ich mag New Wave aus den Achtzigern, Progressive Rock, etwas Americana, klassische Singer-Songwriter, einige klassische Komponisten, alle Arten von Rockmusik, usw… Solange es mich anspricht, bin ich offen dafür. Vielleicht gibt es tatsächlich eine Tendenz zu dunklerer und / oder rebellischer Musik, aber andererseits habe ich sogar eine Vinylplatte von KATY PERRY und ich mag auch ein paar SUGARBABES, haha.

Das neue Album „News Feed“

MH: „News Feed“ klingt moderner als „Demockracy“. Es zeigt sich verspielter und abwechslungsreicher. Trotzdem ist es kraftvoll und sogar ein bisschen wilder. Zumindest ist das der Eindruck, den ich gewonnen habe.
Wie siehst Du das?

KOEN: Ich denke, „News Feed“ ist fokussierter und kompakter als „Demockracy“. Ich denke, unser Songwriting hat sich verbessert und die Songs sind direkter. Ich habe das Gefühl, dass das der Kraft und der Aggression keinen Abbruch getan hat, also denke ich, dass ich mit deiner Vision irgendwie übereinstimme!

MH: Wo wollten PRIMAL CREATION auf dem neuen Album Akzente setzen?

KOEN: Die Songs entwickeln sich ganz natürlich, wenn wir im Proberaum sind. Natürlich werden die Melodien und Riffs von den Gitarristen geschrieben, aber das Komponieren der Songs ist ein Prozess, der die ganze Band einbezieht. Wir schreiben als Band Musik, die wir – als Person – gerne hören, also denke ich, dass wir automatisch unsere musikalischen Akzente auf Melodie, Tightness, Power, kleine proggige Wendungen und Agression setzen. Wir legen auch Wert auf eine klare und moderne Produktion, auch wenn die Bands der Achtziger eine wichtige (aber nicht die einzige) Inspiration sind.

Die (sozialen) Medien

MH: „Please Disperse“ ware die erste Single von PRIMAL CREATION des neuen Albums. Dann folgte „Lie, Share, Subscribe“.

Die Songs scheinen sich mit der Medienwelt zu beschäftigen. Momentan ist COVID 19 ein omnipräsentes Thema und endlose Meinungen und Bewertungen machen in allen möglichen Medien oder digitalen Plattformen die Runde. Ihr scheint die Situation generell sehr kritisch zu sehen.
Ist die Medienwelt mehr Illusion als Realität?

KOEN: Ich denke, es ist beides. Medien kommunizieren; Kommunikation besteht zwischen einem Sender und einem Empfänger. Der Sender (Medien) präsentiert die Botschaft auf eine bestimmte Art und Weise, aber der Empfänger hört, liest und interpretiert die Botschaft. Viele Faktoren auf beiden Seiten haben Einfluss auf den Kern der Botschaft.

Natürlich ist das Erzielen von Gewinn ein großer Motivator für viele Medien. Auf der anderen Seite unterliegen viele Empfänger dem Wunschdenken, dem `Confirmation Bias´ (Begriffserklärung hier ) und anderen Mechanismen, die unsere Meinungen, Gefühle, Überzeugungen und so weiter beeinflussen.

Sich dessen bewusst zu sein, ist der Anfang, um sich im Dschungel der Informationen und Fehlinformationen in der Welt des Jahres 2021 zurechtzufinden. Politische, soziale, wirtschaftliche und moralische Echokammern (Begriffserklärung hier) sind ein großes Problem, das die Menschen daran hindert, alle Seiten zu verschiedenen Themen zu sehen.

Fake News

MH: Kann man Informationen, die man z. B. im Internet findet, noch trauen oder ist es eine Welt der sogenannten „Fake News“?

KOEN: Das Überprüfen von Quellen ist das A und O! Kritisch zu sein gegenüber dem, was man hört und sieht, und zu wissen, was Fakt und was Meinung ist, ist essentiell. Es gibt viele Fake News da draußen. Die Menschen wollen einfache Lösungen für komplexe Probleme und suchen nach Informationen, die das bestätigen, was sie für echt oder wahr halten. Angstmacherei und Profitstreben von Menschen mit wirtschaftlicher oder politischer Macht ist es, was diese Mechanismen in Gang hält.

MH: Ist es heutzutage überhaupt noch möglich, den Wahrheitsgehalt von Informationen zu kontrollieren?

KOEN: Nicht vollständig, denke ich. Aber man kann es versuchen, indem man offen für alle Arten von Informationen ist und Meinungen liest oder hört, die nicht die eigenen sind.

Nostalgie und Schätze

MH: Euer Album „News Feed“ wird auch auf Vinyl erscheinen, streng limitiert auf 100 Stück.
Sammelst Du selbst Schallplatten? Welche Platte ist Dein besonderer Schatz in der Sammlung?

KOEN: Ja, das tue ich! Schwierige Frage… Ich habe eine Erstpressung von CRADLE OF FILTHs „Cruelty and the Beast“. Dasselbe gilt für FORBIDDEN’s „Forbidden Evil“, MERCYFUL FATE’s „Melissa“, METALLICA’s „Ride the Lightning“ und DEATH ANGEL’s „The Ultra-Violence“, um nur ein paar zu nennen. Die ersten beiden Hardrock/Metal-Platten, die ich gekauft habe, waren eine Erstpressung von BLACK SABBATHs „Paranoid“ und LED ZEPPELINs „IV“ auf einem lokalen Flohmarkt. Das war vor 20 Jahren!

Reiz der Schallplatte

MH: Was ist Deiner Meinung nach der Grund dafür, dass Vinyl ein solches Comeback erlebt hat?

KOEN: Ich glaube, in einer Welt, die immer digitaler und unpersönlicher wird, sehnen sich die Menschen nach Authentizität. Als ich aufgewachsen bin, hatten meine Eltern eine Vinylsammlung, die hauptsächlich Musik aus den Sechzigern und Siebzigern enthielt. Ich habe eine Schwäche für Nostalgie.

Das Erlebnis, eine Platte aufzulegen, die Nadel fallen zu lassen, das größere Artwork zu sehen. Das alles atmet Authentizität. Wenn ich für mich selbst spreche, ist es das, was mich zu Vinyl anzieht und ich kann mir vorstellen, dass es das für viele Leute tut. Es war eine Art Lebensziel für mich, ein Album auf Vinyl herauszubringen, also habe ich es durchgezogen. Einige Freunde der Band fragten auch immer wieder nach PRIMAL CREATION auf Vinyl. Also hier ist es!

MH: Die letzten Worte gehören Dir. Wenn Du also noch etwas zu sagen hast, dann hau es einfach aus.

KOEN: Könnte ein Klischee sein, aber DANKE an jeden, der unsere Musik kauft oder streamt, unser Merch kauft, zu den Shows kommt (bis Covid anfing, natürlich) und PRIMAL CREATION auf jede erdenkliche Art unterstützt!

Rocket launch for PRIMAL CREATION

MH: Welcome to the interview by `metal-heads.de‘!

PRIMAL CREATION (Facebook, Bandcamp ) is a young band. You have a stable line-up since 2014. In 2017 you released your debut „Demockracy“. It received a good response. In 2019 PRIMAL CREATION were even allowed to burn down the stage at the Wacken Open Air Festival after your victory at the Belgian Wacken Metal Battle Finals.

Would you agree that you got off to a very good start?

KOEN: Thank you for your interest in Primal Creation! Our start could have been worse indeed. Demockracy was very well received. Even now we see people reacting to News Feed all over the world reminiscing that they liked Demockracy a lot back in 2017, so that’s pretty cool to hear and read.

Wacken was of course an absolute highlight in our run with „Demockracy“. To play the biggest metalfestival of Europe is quite insane and beyond your grasp. Gotta think of it this way: next to being metal musicians we’re also very big metalfans. To play the festival we’ve all visited before to go see our heroes is quite an unreal experience! A very motivating one as well by the way.

WACKEN OPEN AIR 2019

MH: It was the last WACKEN OPEN AIR in 2019 before the pandemic crisis arised. WACKEN OPEN AIR is the biggest open air festival in the world!

How did PRIMAL CREATION feel about their performance?

KOEN: We were scheduled to play Wednesday at 10 PM. The weather that weekend was precarious though. All day it was unsure if everything could go through as planned. Eventually we could go onstage 40 minutes later than planned. Soundcheck was great. Then Clint started our intro sample and we started playing… BOOM, suddenly the sound onstage was utter crap! Luckily during the 30 minute set the sound became a lot better and we gave it our best nonetheless.

The tent we played was pretty crowded and there were two moshpits constantly going strong. It was an awesome adrenaline-fueled experience for all five of us. We heard from our crew that outside the tent people passing by during our show stopped to watch us on the screen that’s outside the tent. Afterwards and later during the festival we got good reactions from the crowd and from the people at home watching the stream as well. Truly once in a lifetime!

MH: You surely didn’t stay there only for the duration of your performance.

KOEN: No, we enjoyed the entire festival as artists; quite the experience I have to say.

Dreams came true

MH: What else did you do there? What were the other highlights at WOA besides your performance (after-show-parties, performances of other bands etc.)?

KOEN: As we are all TESTAMENT-fans we enjoyed their show quite a lot. For me personally I got to meet Tom Englund and Henrik Danhage from EVERGREY backstage. EVERGREY is a band which I’m following and listening to for about 20 years. That was a wonderful experience. The beer and metal fueled afterparties in the VIP-area were quite memorable as well!

Total breakdown

MH: And then came the year 2020 with the pandemic crisis caused by Covid 19. Probably no one would have thought that this cursed epidemic would drag on for so long.

How did you deal with it at the beginning and how do you see the situation now?

KOEN: I think like a lot of people in the beginning we experienced a lot of uncertainty, not knowing what would happen. After a while we got frustrated as rehearsing wasn’t an option anymore, as well as social gatherings.

MH: How is the situation in Belgium?

KOEN: The covid numbers aren’t good, but in comparison with neighbouring countries it’s not the worst either. What you do see though, is that it’s dividing up society more than ever. Conspiracy theories are going rampant. You can’t keep everybody happy in a crisis like this. What we hope as a band of course, is that rehearsals and liveshows will be coming back in the near future.

Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

Vaccinations are gaining speed and that is really the way to go. Koen works in healthcare, so he already got his vaccine. We truly hope we reach a high protection rate in society quickly, so we can go back to doing things that spice up our lives!

Full braking-The bad accident

COVID 19 was not the only tragedy in 2020. Singer Koen also broke his hip.

May we know how the tragic accident happened?

KOEN: I like to ride my racebike as a way of keeping fit. On a sundaymorning in January 2020 I left home to ride with my club. I didn’t reach the meeting point yet and an unknown rider in front of me – no one else there – slipped and fell during a corner because of ice on the road. I was right behind him, had nowhere to go. While braking in a reflex my rear wheel slipped as well and I fell hard right on my hip. I heard a dry crack and couldn’t get back up. Radiology in the hospital made clear I broke the biggest bone in my body. A few hours after the crash I was already in surgery and the doctors put the bone together with three big screws – how metal!

MH: Are you fully recovered?

KOEN: Yes, January 2021 the doctors removed the screws and I’m completely free of pain and got all my freedom and movement back! It’s been a long road to recovery but I can say I completely recovered from the fracture!

Support and appreciation

MH: How do you deal with such hard setbacks that slow you down so rigorously?

KOEN: Frustration, but eventually acceptance and going for it. Recordings were already planned the moment I had my accident. Luckily the studio we recorded is close by and the owner / producer Francis is rather flexible.

Furthermore, I’m lucky my partner, my brother and my parents helped me out as much as they could. Not easy, especially for my partner, as we have a small boy who needs attention and care as well and her job wasn’t going anywhere either of course. The first 4 to 8 weeks I literally couldn’t do anything. Much love and appreciation for her!

Metal and other music

MH: „News Feed“ shows like „Demockracy“ your preference for the dark side. This presents itself on „New Feed“ sometimes through nasty dark growls, which Koen brings out from the deepest throat. This begs the question:

Where are your musical preferences besides thrash metal?

KOEN: When I speak for myself, metal in all its forms and shapes is the main dish of my musical diet, and by extension that goes for all bandmembers. Next to that, we enjoy lots of other music. For example, some of us enjoy jazz and lately I’m all over Johnny Cash his music again.

I like eighties new wave, progressive rock, some Americana, classic singer songwriters, some classical composers, all kinds of rock music, etc… As long as it speaks to me I’m open for it. Maybe there is indeed a tendency towards the more darker and / or rebellious kind of music, but then again, I even have a vinyl record of Katy Perry and I like me some Sugababes as well, haha.

The new album „News Feed“

MH: „News Feed“ sounds more modern than „Demockracy“. It shows itself more playful and diverse. Nevertheless, it is powerful and even a bit wilder. At least that’s the impression I got.

How do you see that?

KOEN: I think News Feed is more focussed and compact than „Demockracy“. Our songwriting improved and the songs are more direct. I feel that didn’t take away from the power and agression, so I think I kind of agree with your vision!

MH: Where did PRIMAL CREATION want to set accents on the new album?

KOEN: The songs evolve naturally when we are in the rehearsal room. Of course melodies and riffs are written by the guitarplayers, but composing the songs is a process that involves the whole band. We write music as a band that we – as a person – like to hear, so I think automatically we put our accents musically on melody, tightness, power, little proggy twists and agression. We value a clear and modern production as well, even though the eighties bands are an important (but not the only) inspiration.

The (social) media

MH: „Please Disperse“ was your first single from the new album. Then „Lie, Share, Subscribe“ followed. The songs seem to deal with the media world. Currently COVID 19 has become an omnipresent topic and endless opinions and assessments are doing the rounds in all kinds of media or digital platforms. You seem to be very critical of the situation in general.

Is the media world more illusion than reality?

KOEN: I think it’s both. Media communicates; communication exists between a sender and a receiver. The sender (media) presents the message in a certain way, but the receiver hears, reads and interprets the message. A lot of factors on both sides have influence on the core of the message.

Of course, making a profit is a big motivator for a lot of media. On the other hand, a lot of receivers are subject to wishful thinking, to confirmation bias and other mechanisms that influence our opinions, feelings, beliefs and so on. Being aware of that is the start of finding your way in the jungle that is information and misinformation in the world in 2021. Political, social, economical and moral echo-chambers are a huge problem that prevent people from seeing all sides to different issues.

Fake News

MH: Can you still trust information that you find on the Internet, for example, or is it just a world of so-called „fake news“?

KOEN: Checking sources is paramount. Being critical towards what you hear and see, whilst knowing what is fact and what is opinion is essential. There is a lot of fake news out there. People want simple solutions to complex problems and search for information that confirms what they want or feel to be real or true. Fearmongering and profiteering by people in economical or political power is what keeps these mechanisms going.

Is it even possible to control the truthfulness of information nowadays?

Not completely I think. But you can try by being open to all kinds of information and reading or listening to opinions that are not your own.

Nostalgia and treasures

MH: Your album will also be released on vinyl, strictly limited to 100 pieces.Do you collect records yourself? Which record is your special treasure in the collection?

KOEN: Yeah I do! Difficult question… I’ve got a first pressing of CRADLE OF FILTHS’s „Cruelty and the Beast“. Same goes for FORBIDDEN’s „Forbidden Evil“, MERCYFUL FATE’s „Melissa“, METALLICA’s „Ride the Lightning“ and DEATH ANGEL’s „The Ultra-Violence“ to name a few. The first two hardrock / metal records I bought were a first pressing of BLACK SABBATH’s „Paranoid“ and LED ZEPPELIN’s „IV“ on a local flea market. 20 years ago!

Charm of vinyl

MH: What do you think is the reason that vinyl has made such a comeback?

KOEN: In a world that’s getting more digital and unpersonal by the day, I think people long for authenticity. When I was growing up my parents had a vinyl collection of mostly sixties and seventies music. I’m a sucker for nostalgia. The experience of putting on a record, dropping the needle, seeing the bigger artwork. It’s all breathing authenticy. When I speak for myself, that’s what draws me to vinyl and I can imagine it does for a lot of people. It was kind of a lifegoal for me to put out an album on vinyl, so I pushed through with it. Some friends of the band also kept asking for Primal Creation vinyl, so here it is!

KOEN: Could be cliché, but THANKS to everyone that’s buying or streaming our music, buying our merch, coming to shows (until Covid kicked in of course) and supporting PRIMAL CREATION in any way possible!

The metalscene is blessed with a very loyal audience, that’s something we have to treasure. Without the fans there are no bands, no festivals, concerts, etc. As bandmembers we are all fans as well. Thrash Metal

Also die Thrash-Metal Fans können sich bisher nicht über mangelnden Nachschub beklagen. Vor kurzem haben noch NECRONOMICON das grandiose „The Final Chapter“ auf die Fans losgelassen. Und nun im April stehen noch EVILE als Hochkaräter auf dem Programm. Aber jetzt erst einmal zu PRIMAL CREATION (Facebook ) aus Belgien. Die können bereits beachtliche Erfolge verzeichnen. Beispielsweise sind sie 2019 als Sieger der belgischen WACKEN Metal Battles Finals auserkoren worden und konnten damit sogar beim 30. WACKEN OPEN AIR die große Bühne abfackeln. „News Feed“ ist der Nachfolger des Debütalbums „Demockracy“ und wird am 16.04.2021 erscheinen.

Ohne Umschweife

düsen die knackigen Riffs vom Opener „A Post-Truth Order“ drauflos. Die temperamentvollen Drums machen ordentlich Dampf im Schallerzeuger. Der Sänger Koen Mattheeuws bestärkt den Sound mit seinem energischen kraftvollen Shouting und der Chorus kommt resolut daher. Ohne große Spielereien ballern PRIMAL CREATION den Lack aus dem Frack. Am Ende wird es dann beklemmend düster, indem man das Tempo rausnimmt und mit doomigen Riffs agiert. So bleibt Euch eine kurze Verschnaufspause, um gleich wieder mit

„Please Disperse“

durchzustarten. Ebenfalls eine amtlich treibende Nummer, die aber auch geschickt mit Tempiwechseln arbeitet. Der Gesang wechselt zwischen energischem Shouting und dunklen Growls, die sich auch in einem Death-Metal-Song gut machen würden (ab Minute 02:50). Insgesamt ein abwechslungsreicher Song, der mit grooviger Wucht begeistert.

Brachial und druckvoll

wetzt auch „Antillectual Disease“ direkt durchs Gehör und die treibenden Drums samt fettem Bass lassen nicht lange auf sich warten. Der Gesang klingt düster bedrohlich. Aber der Song geht über 5 Minuten und daher lassen die Jungs sich in der zweiten Hälfte noch ein paar Dinge einfallen, damit es nicht zu eintönig wird. Das Tempo reduziert sich zeitweilig und man hämmert brutal in Metal-Core Manier ein paar Songzeilen raus, gefolgt von einem coolen Gitarrensolo. Das Ende des Songs mit seinen irren Gitarrensounds ist wirklich schräg. Echt geil!

Fazit

PRIMAL CREATION zelebrieren auf ihrem Album „News Feed“ modernen Thrash Metal, der wuchtig und vehement in Szene gesetzt wird. Die Aggressivität ist zeitweise von einer dunklen Aura umgeben, gerade dann, wenn das Tempo runtergeschraubt wird und der Sänger mit gutturalen Growls agiert. Die Core-Einflüsse schrauben den Brutalitätsfaktor noch einige Grad nach oben. „News Feed“ ist somit ein bretthartes Bollwerk mit festem Fundament, dass sich keine Blöße gibt.

Thrash Metal

So the thrash metal fans can’t complain about a lack of supply so far. Recently NECRONOMICON released the grandiose „The Final Chapter“ to the fans. And now in April we have top albums. EVILE in the end of April will release their brutal beast. But now first to PRIMAL CREATION (Facebook ) from Belgium. They can already record considerable successes. For example, they have been chosen as the winner of the Belgian WACKEN Metal Battles Finals in 2019 and could even torch the big stage at the 30th WACKEN OPEN AIR. „News Feed“ is the follow-up to the debut album „Demockracy“ and will be released on 04/16/2021.

Straightforwardly

the crunchy riffs of the opener „A Post-Truth Order“ blast away. These spirited drums make proper steam in the sound generator. The singer Koen Mattheeuws strengthens the sound with his energetic powerful shouting and the chorus comes resolute and crisp. Without big gimmicks PRIMAL CREATION takes no prisoners. At the end it becomes oppressively gloomy by taking out the tempo and acting with doomy riffs. So you are left with a short breather, to immediately start again with

„Please Disperse“

Also a true fast driver, which also works cleverly with tempo changes. The vocals alternate between energetic shouting and dark growls, which would also do well in a death metal song (from minute 02:50). Overall, a very varied song that inspires with groovy force.

Brutal and powerful

„Antillectual Disease“ is also directly through the ear and the driving drums with fat bass are not long in coming. The vocals sound gloomy threatening. But the song goes on for more than 5 minutes and therefore the guys come up with a few more things in the second half so that it doesn’t get too monotonous. The tempo is temporarily reduced and they brutally hammer out a few song lines in metal-core manner, followed by a cool guitar solo. The end of the song with its crazy guitar sounds is really weird. Really nice!

Result

PRIMAL CREATION celebrate on their album „News Feed“ modern Thrash Metal, which is presented in a massive and vehement way. The aggressiveness is at times surrounded by a dark aura, especially when the tempo is lowered and the singer acts with guttural growls. The core influences screw the brutality factor up a few more degrees. „News Feed“ is thus a hard as a board bulwark with a solid foundation that does not show any weakness.
