Der ewige Kampf

Ja ich weiß…. Für jede neue Band ist es ein Kampf um Aufmerksamkeit und ein ständiges Bemühen Fans zu gewinnen. Für alle ist es ein steiniger und harter Weg und jeder Schritt zum Ziel will hart erkämpft sein. Und doch gibt es Unterschiede! Man kann mit noch so viel Herzblut und Potential bei der Sache sein, aber es sind letztlich auch die Rahmenbedingungen, die gewisse Dinge möglich machen oder eben nicht. Und diese Rahmenbedingungen kann man sich leider nicht aussuchen. Bei DEMUNILLUSIONS (Facebook ) ist die Lage aber um einiges schwieriger als es wohl bei fast allen anderen Bands der Fall ist.

Am Ende der Welt

am nördlichen Rand Russlands ist der Kampf noch um einiges härter. Denn die Band kommt aus Murmansk. Man kann sich vorstellen, dass das Leben dort ohnehin kein Zuckerschlecken ist und die Bewältigung des Alltags schon ein wahrer Kampf ist. Wenn man dann noch neben der harten Arbeit seinen musikalischen Traum leben und verwirklichen will, so scheint der Kampf fast aussichtslos. Die Metalszene in Russland erfährt keinen Support. Das weiß ich auch aus Gesprächen mit anderen russischen Bands. Daher liegt mir die Band besonders am Herzen und es wäre eine Schande, wenn DEMUNILLUSIONS es nicht schaffen würden, nur weil sie dort am Ende der Welt ihre Heimat haben. Das ist auch kein übertriebenes Gejammer, sondern harte Realität!

Klasse Symphonic Metal

DEMUNILLUSIONS machen wirklich gute Musik, und das schon mit den bescheidenen Mitteln, die sie zur Verfügung haben. Wie wäre die Musik erst, wenn sie die Möglichkeiten anderer Bands hätten? Aber wie gesagt…. Die Musik ist so schon von hoher Qualität und ist professionell umgesetzt. Ich möchte sie jedem ans Herz legen, denn ich bin mir sicher, dass nicht nur ich Potential in der Band sehe. Und wenn man auf symphonischen Metal steht, dann sollte sich ohnehin jeder dazu berufen fühlen diese Band zu unterstützen. Ich weiß aus persönlichem Kontakt, dass die Band für jeglichen Support unendlich dankbar ist und ein Lächeln auf ihre Herzen zaubert. Sie wollen gehört werden und das sollten wir ihnen nicht verwehren. Das Folgen oder Liken bei Facebook und YouTube wäre schon mal so ein Support und es kostet noch nicht mal Zeit oder Geld.

Interview mit Thomas von DEMUNILLUSIONS

Ich habe mit Thomas von DEMUNILLUSIONS ganz aktuell ein Gespräch geführt und wollte mal ein Update haben und wissen, was sich in ihrem Leben so getan hat und wie sich ihre Situation derzeit darstellt. Thomas spielt die Gitarren und den Bass. Außerdem ist er neben Ayracsana mitverantwortlich für die Vocals.

Die Zeit steht still

MH: Wir hatten im Juni letzten Jahres zum ersten Mal miteinander gesprochen. Nun ist einige Zeit vergangen. Wie ist es Euch in der Zwischenzeit am nördlichen Rand Russlands ergangen? Hat sich in Eurem Umfeld etwas verändert?

Thomas: Manchmal scheint es, als stünde die Zeit hier still, denn fast alles bleibt unverändert. Oder es verändert sich sehr langsam. Wir arbeiten viel und wir geben uns völlig der Musik hin. Demnach ist unser Umfeld also hauptsächlich die Arbeit und unsere Band inklusive der Proben.

MH: Wie oft probt ihr als Band zusammen? In welchen Bereichen habt ihr euch eurer Meinung nach verbessert?

Thomas: Wir proben 3 Mal pro Woche für durchschnittlich 3-4 Stunden. Wir versuchen, dieses Tempo konstant zu halten. Natürlich gibt es in allen Bereichen ein Wachstum, aber es ist schwierig, sich selbst zu beurteilen. Doch wir sind zufrieden mit der Entwicklung, wenn wir den Vergleich zu dem ziehen, wie es vor 1-2 Jahren war.

Das Einzige, was sich fast nicht verbessert, ist die Ausrüstung, denn die ist teuer und für uns in den meisten Fällen unmöglich.

Das Leben am nördlichen Rand Russlands

MH: Wie muss man sich das gesellschaftliche Leben bei Euch in Seweromorsk vorstellen? Was machen Sie vor allem in der dunklen Jahreszeit, wenn die Sonne auch tagsüber kaum noch scheint?

Thomas: Wir sind fast nicht mehr in Seweromorsk, denn unser Studio befindet sich in der Stadt Murmansk – sie ist 20 Kilometer von Seweromorsk entfernt. Diese Stadt ist etwas größer, aber es gibt keine besonderen Unterschiede, außer dass es eine offene Stadt ist. (Anm. d.V.: Der Zugang zur Stadt Seweromorsk wird aufgrund seiner militärischen Bedeutung strengstens kontrolliert.) Wir werden nur selten von irgendeiner Art von äußerem Leben abgelenkt, da wir es vorziehen an der Musik zu arbeiten. Denn jedes Freizeitvergnügen kostet Geld, was wir nicht haben. Außerdem stecken wir möglichst alles in die Band. Trotzdem gehen wir manchmal gehen wir ins Kino, um interessante Filme anzuschauen. Wir treffen uns gelegentlich mit Freunden oder laden sie zu unseren Proben ein, ebenso wie zu „persönlichen“ Konzerten.

Musikszene

MH: Seid ihr die einzige Metal-Band in der Stadt? Gibt es irgendwelche Orte, an denen man Rock und Metal hören kann?

Thomas: Wir wissen nichts genaues über Seweromorsk. Wahrscheinlich gibt es dort einige andere Metal-Bands, von denen es in Murmansk viele gibt. Wir werden nicht sagen, wie verantwortungsbewusst sie sind und mit welcher Energie sie ihrer Sache nachgehen, denn ich weiß es nicht. Aber so weit wir es mitbekommen haben, gibt es kaum Herzblut und wenig Ambitionen.

Allerdgins gibt es einige sehr anständige Vertreter der nicht-metallischen Szene. Einfach bezaubernde Künstler wie „Bangkok Postal Service“, „Walking Hawking“ und „Wooden Whales“.Theoretisch gibt es ein oder zwei Veranstaltungsorte für Auftritte, aber in der Praxis ist es nicht geeignet für solche Shows. Und die Orte, die eine großartige Show bieten könnten, stehen den lokalen Bands nicht zur Verfügung.

Und die Frage ist, wie groß das Interesse des Publikums ist, denn es gibt hier fast keine Zuhörer.
Es gibt nur eine kleine Gruppe von Metal- und Konzertliebhabern- ein überschaubares sehr schmales und unveränderliches Publikum.
Wir sind hier schon lange nicht mehr aufgetreten und haben das auch nicht vor.

Eine Schande

MH: Generell ist es für eine junge Band heutzutage schwer, gehört zu werden. Nun kommt ihr aus einem Land, in dem die Metalszene ohnehin nicht sehr gut entwickelt ist und überhaupt nicht gefördert wird. Außerdem kommt ihr aus einer Stadt, die an der nördlichsten Spitze Russlands liegt. Wie müssen wir uns das vorstellen und was bedeutet das für Euch?

Thomas: Kurz gesagt, es ist zutiefst beschämend. Es ist eine Schande, in welcher Situation wir uns hier befinden. Natürlich kann alles gelöst und überwunden werden. Und wir haben alle Schwierigkeiten überwunden! Alle bis auf eine: Geld für Kreativität und Leben. Das ist immer noch ein unüberwindbares Hindernis, das die weitere Entwicklung und alle weiteren Schritte verhindert.

Und unsere beruflichen Tätigkeiten nehmen fast unser ganzes Leben in Anspruch und bringen nicht einmal genug Geld für ein normales Leben.

Leben am Limit

MH: Darf ich fragen, was Ihr beruflich macht?

Thomas: JK und ich haben eine Berufsausbildung im Bauwesen, während Ayracsana eigentlich von Beruf Kauffrau ist. Aber keiner von uns arbeitet in seinem Fachgebiet, da es hier schwierig ist, einen Job zu finden, und es ist völlig unrentabel. So arbeitet Ayracsana in einem Krankenhaus im Operationssaal, JK im Lager und ich in einer kleinen IT-Firma. Wir verdienen im Monat jeder ca. 300 Euro. Das muss für so viele Dinge reichen.

Auch die medizinische Versorgung ist ein Problem, die es zwar auch kostenlos gibt, aber auf minimalstem Standard. Man kann das nicht mit Deutschland vergleichen. Benötigt man bei bestimmten Beschwerden eine aufwendigere Behandlung, die woanders der Standard ist, muss man diese hier teuer bezahlen. Da sich das kaum einer leisten kann, leiden auch viele häufig unter gesundheitlichen Beschwerden.

Warum Symphonic Metal?

MH: Warum habt ihr euch für symphonischen Metal entschieden? Wer sind eure Vorbilder?

Thomas: Symphonischer Metal mit echten Symphonien erlaubt es dir, so vielschichtige Abenteuer innerhalb des Tracks zu erschaffen, wie du willst. Wir komponieren niemals symphonische Instrumente, um einen Track zu begleiten. Für uns ist es immer ein eigenständiges symphonisches Werk. Deshalb veröffentlichen wir unsere Sinfonien einzeln. Keine Vocals oder Metal!

Unsere Instrumentalversionen der Tracks sind ebenfalls eigenständig – es handelt sich um ein Gesamtwerk. Nun, der vollständige Track ist in der Lage, all dies zusammen mit Gesang und Bedeutung in Worte zu fassen.

Jeder kann etwas Eigenes bei uns finden. Man muss kein Metalhead sein, um unsere Sinfonien zu lieben.

Die Kreativität dieser Gruppe begann mit dem Titel „Scarecrow“ von der Gruppe Avantasia. Natürlich sehen wir den besonderen Einfluss von Avantasia, Nightwish und Kamelot.

MH: Wo habt Ihr Eure musikalischen Fähigkeiten erworben? Habt Ihr Euch alles selbst beigebracht?

Thomas: Alle unsere Fähigkeiten, die wir in der Band einsetzen, haben wir uns selbst angeeignet. Nur Ayracsana hatte die Erfahrung, als Kind an einer Musikschule Klavier zu lernen, aber in der Gruppe ist sie Sängerin.

Musikhistorie von DEMUNILLUSIONS

MH: Erzähl unseren Lesern, was sich in der Zwischenzeit musikalisch bei DEMUNILLUSIONS getan hat.

Thomas: Nach „Paranoia“ haben wir ein Cover von Shinedown gemacht, und zwar „Sound of Madness“ mit Video! Es folgten die Tracks „For My Soul“, „Lost Vanguard“ und „StarLight“. Wir planen demnächst noch weitere 2-4 Tracks zu veröffentlichen.

Außerdem arbeiten wir parallel sehr viel an unserem Album. Höchstwahrscheinlich werden wir in absehbarer Zeit keine neuen Singles aus dem Album veröffentlichen, sondern das gesamte Material für die Veröffentlichung aufheben.

MH: Erzählt uns etwas über die Singles! Worum geht es im Einzelnen und welche Bedeutung haben die Songs für dich?

Thomas: Die Singles „Silent Movie“ und „Paranoia“ stehen in direktem Zusammenhang mit dem Album „Madness“, an dem wir schon seit vielen Jahren schreiben. Es sind Konzeptsongs, genau wie das Album, und sie werden stark miteinander verbunden sein. Die bisher veröffentlichten Versionen werden wir aber für das Album nochmals überarbeiten, um einige Dinge zu verbessern.

Dann haben wir ein Cover von Shinedown – „The Sound of Madness“ veröffentlicht und sind diesem Song sehr nahe gekommen. Aber es ist nicht auf Streaming-Diensten zu finden, da wir keine Rechte haben, diesen Track zu verkaufen. Und wir wissen nicht, wie wir eine Lizenz von Shinedown anfordern können. Es gibt ein YouTube-Video für diesen Track.

Dann haben wir vor kurzem 3 unserer alten Tracks aus dem Jahr 2015 wiederveröffentlicht, die bisher nur auf Russisch waren. Es wird noch 2 weitere geben. Für uns ist das eine Gelegenheit, unsere alte Kreativität zu aktualisieren und sie der Welt ohne Sprachbarriere zu zeigen.

Träume

MH: Was sind Eure Träume? Was wollt ihr im Leben erreichen? Welche Rolle spielt die Band dabei?

Thomas: Wir alle träumen davon, Musik zu machen. Und alles steht auf dem Spiel. Alles, was wir tun, tun wir für die Band und für die Möglichkeit, vielleicht irgendwann von ihr zu leben.

Es liegt an Euch!

Wenn es eine Sache gibt, die ich an der Rock- und Metalszene immer geliebt und geschätzt habe, dann ist es der Zusammenhalt! Nehmt euch ein Herz und schenkt DEMUNILLUSIONS eure Aufmerksamkeit und vielleicht noch ein bisschen mehr! Ich habe exklusiv in einige Kompositionen reinhören dürfen, die für das kommende Album geplant sind. Und ich kann Euch versprechen, dass DEMUNILLUSIONS ein grandioses Werk abliefern werden. Man arbeitet z.B. gerade am Gesang, der noch einmal komplett überarbeitet werden soll. Dann müsste das Album irgendwann gemixt und gemastert werden. Und es gibt noch einiges an technischem Equipment, was die Band voranbringen würde. Das alles ist nun mal leider auch eine Geldfrage. DemUnillusions – The eternal struggle at the end of the world

The struggle is real

Yes I know…. For every new band it’s a fight for attention and a constant effort to win fans. For all of them it’s a rocky and hard road and every step to the goal has to be fought hard. And yet there are differences! You can be with so much passion and potential in the matter, but it is ultimately also the framework conditions that make certain things possible or not. And unfortunately, you can’t choose these conditions. With DEMUNILLUSIONS the situation is much more difficult than it is with other bands.

At the end of the world

on the northern edge of Russia, the battle is even tougher. Because the band comes from Murmansk. You can imagine that life there is no bed of roses anyway and coping with everyday life is a real struggle. If you then want to realize your musical dream in addition to the hard work, the struggle seems almost hopeless. The metal scene in Russia doesn’t get any support. I know this also from conversations with other Russian bands. That’s why the band is especially close to my heart and it would be a shame if DEMUNILLUSIONS didn’t make it just because they have their home there at the end of the world. That’s not exaggerated whining either, but hard reality!

Great Symphonic Metal

DEMUNILLUSIONS make really good music, and that already with the modest equipment they have. How would the music be if they had the possibilities of other bands? But as I said….The music is of high quality as it is professionally realized. I would like to recommend it to everyone, because I am sure that not only I see potential in the band. And if you like symphonic metal, then everyone should feel called to support this band anyway. I know from personal contact that the band is infinitely grateful for any support and puts a smile on their hearts. They want to be heard and we should not deny them that. Following or liking on Facebook and YouTube would already be such a support and it doesn’t even cost time or money.

Interview with Thomas from DEMUNILLUSIONS

I had a very recent conversation with Thomas from DEMUNILLUSIONS and wanted to have an update and know what has been going on in their lives and how their situation is currently. Thomas plays the guitars and the bass. He is also co-responsible for the vocals alongside Ayracsana.

Time stands still

MH: We had talked to each other for the first time in June last year. Now some time has passed. How has it been for you in the meantime at the northernmost tip of Russia? Has anything changed in your environment?

Thomas: Sometimes it seems as if time stands still here, because almost everything remains unchanged. Or it changes very slowly. We work a lot and we give ourselves completely to the music. So according to that, our environment is mainly work and our band including rehearsals.

MH: How often do you rehearse together as a band? In which areas have you improved in your opinion?

Thomas: We rehearse 3 times a week for 3-4 hours on average. We try to keep this pace constantly. Of course, there is growth in all areas, but it is difficult to assess yourself. But we are happy with what it turns out, in contrast to what it was 1-2 years ago.

The only thing that almost does not improve is the equipment, because it is expensive and impossible for us in most cases.

Life on the northern edge of Russia

MH: How do you imagine the social life in Severomorsk? What do you do especially in the dark season, when the sun hardly ever shines?

Thomas: We are almost not in Severomorsk anymore, because our studio is located in the city of Murmansk – it is 20 kilometers away from Severomorsk. This city is a bit bigger, but there are no special differences, except that it is an open city. (Ed. note: access to the city of Severomorsk is strictly controlled because of its military importance). We are rarely distracted by any kind of external life, as we prefer to work on music. Because any pastime costs money, which we don’t have. Besides, we put as much as possible into the band. Nevertheless, sometimes we go to the cinema to watch interesting movies. We occasionally meet with friends or invite them to our rehearsals, as well as to „personal“ concerts.

Musikszene

MH: Are you the only metal band in town? Are there any places where you can listen to rock and metal?

Thomas: We do not know about Severomorsk. There are probably some other metal bands there. There are many of them in Murmansk. We will not say how responsibly and with some energy they approach their business, because I don’t know, but we didn’t see any „live“ pulse and ambitions.

But there are some very decent representatives of the non-metallic scene. Simply enchanting commands „Bangkok Postal Service“, „Walking Hawking“ and „Wooden Whales“.In theory, there are one or two venues for performances, but in practice it is not suited for such shows. And those places that could provide a great show are not available to local bands.

And the question is about the interest of the public, because there is almost no listener here. Of course, there is a small array of metal and concert lovers, but this is a very narrow and unchanging audience. We haven’t performed here for a long time and, in truth, we are not planning.

MH: Tell our readers what has happened musically in the meantime.

Thomas: After „Paranoia“ we released a cover of Shinedown – «Sound of Madness» with video, tracks «For My Soul», «Lost Vanguard» and «StarLight». We are planning another 2-4 tracks by the conditionally fast release.

And we are working a lot on our full length album. Most likely, in the foreseeable future, we will not release new singles from the album, saving all the material for release.

A shame

MH: Generally speaking, it’s hard for a young band to get heard these days. Now you come from a country where the metal scene is not very well developed anyway and is not promoted at all. In addition, you come from a city that is located at the northernmost of Russia.

How should one imagine this and what does this mean for you?

Thomas: In short, it is deeply insulting. It is a shame the situation we are in here. Of course, everything can be solved and overcome. And we have overcome all difficulties! All but one: money for creativity and life. This is still an insurmountable obstacle that prevents further development and all further steps.

And our professional jobs take up almost all of our lives and do not bring enough money even for a normal life.

Life on the limit

MH: May I ask what you do professionally?

Thomas: Thomas and JK have professional education in construction, while Ayracsana is a professional merchandiser. But none of us works in our specialty, since it is difficult to find a job here and it is completely unprofitable. So Ayracsana – works in a hospital in the operating room, JK in warehouse work, and Thomas in a small IT company.

Why Symphonic Metal?

MH: Why did you choose symphonic metal? Who are your idols?

Thomas: Symphonic metal with real symphonies inside allows you to create as multi-layered adventure inside the track as you like.We never write symphonic instruments for the sake of accompanying a track. For us, it is always an independent symphonic work. Therefore, we release our symphonies individually. No vocals or metal.

Our instrumental versions of the tracks are also independent – this is a complete work. Well, the full track is able to absorb all this together with vocals and meaning in words.

Everyone can find something of their own. You don’t have to be a metalhead to love our symphonies.

Creativity of this group began with the track „Scarecrow“ by Avantasia. Then it really influenced us. Of course, we see the special influence of the Avantasia, Nightwish and Kamelot.

Music history of DEMUNILLUSIONS

MH: Tell us something about the individual singles! What is it about in detail and what meaning do the songs have for you?

Thomas: The singles „Silent Movie“ and „Paranoia“ are directly related to the album „Madness“, which we have been writing for many years. These are concept songs, just like the album, and they will be strongly related.

Then we released a cover of Shinedown – „The Sound of Madness“ and became very close to this song. But it cannot be found on streaming services, since we have no right to sell this track. And we do not know how to request a license from Shinedown. There is a YouTube video for this track.

Then, recently, we have re-released 3 of our old tracks from 2015, which were previously only in Russian. There will be 2 more. For us, this is an opportunity to update our old creativity and show it to the world without a language barrier.

Dreams

MH: Where did you acquire your musical skills? Did you teach yourself everything?

Thomas: All our abilities, which we use in a group, we acquired on our own. Only Ayracsana had the experience of studying at a music school as a child on the piano, but in the group she is a vocalist.

MH: What are your dreams? What do you want to achieve in life? What role does the band play in this?

Thomas: We all dream of making music. And everything is at stake. Everything we do is done for the group and for the opportunity to live by it.

It’s up to you, Metal-hearts!

If there’s one thing I’ve always loved and appreciated about the rock and metal scene, it’s the cohesion! Take heart and give DEMUNILLUSIONS your attention and maybe a little more! I was allowed to listen exclusively to some compositions that are planned for the upcoming album. And I can promise you that DEMUNILLUSIONS will deliver a great album. But for the further steps they need urgent support, in any way!

For example, they are currently working on the vocals, which are to be completely reworked once again. Then the album would have to be mixed and mastered at some point. And there is still some technical equipment, which would bring the band forward. Unfortunately, all this is also a question of money. But the band is very grateful for any support, in any case.

17 Jahre nach dem Debüt…symphonischer Melodic Metal mit neuem Drummer

Könnt ihr glauben, dass das Debüt von EDENBRIDGE wirklich schon 17 Jahre her ist. Man kann also ohne Übertreibung sagen, dass die Band sich in der Szene etabliert hat. Mit ihrem symphonischen Melodic Metal scheinen EDENBRIDGE eine Nische gefunden zu haben, in der es sich prima existieren lässt. Aber man möchte sich ja dennoch weiterentwickeln und so hat man bei dem neuen Werk an der „Härteschraube“ gedreht und serviert den Fans und Medien Kompositionen, die bezüglich diesen Aspektes einen Schritt nach vorne gemacht haben.

EDENBRIDGE – The great momentum

Beim oben erwähnten „Shiantara“ geht es gut nach vorne…ohne aber den melodischen Anteil zu vernachlässigen. Somit sollte man eigentlich den Geschmack der Fans treffen. Es sind aber auch etwas bedächtigere Songs mit dabei.

Also wenn man diese Art von Musik mag, dann kann man eigentlich nichts an der neuen EDENBRIDGE-Scheibe aussetzen.

Man darf auch gespannt sein, wie der neue Drummer Johannes Jungreitmeier ankommt, der mit dem kommenden Release ein Teil von EDENBRIDGE wird und die Performance des österreichischen Vierers mit Power nach vorne treibt.

Die neun Tracks, die es auf „The great momentum“ geschafft haben, wurden (wie auch beim Vorgängeralbum aus dem Jahr 2013) von Lanvall produziert. Für den Mix konnte man einmal mehr Karl Groom (THRESHOLD) mit seinem Thin ice Studio gewinnen, während das Mastering im Finnvox Studio von Mika Jussila übernommen wurde.

Musik ist Geschmackssache

Anmutiger Gesang, klare Produktion, saubere Instrumentalarbeit und der eine oder andere Song, der das Potential hat, auf zukünftigen Konzerten den Sprung auf die Setlist zu schaffen. Es könnte aber auch kritische Stimmen geben, die das Material und/oder die Produktion zu steril bzw. zu makellos und perfekt finden. Aber man kann es ja bekanntlich nicht jedem Recht machen.

Qualitativ ist das Ganze eine runde Sache…und Musik ist Kunst und damit Geschmackssache!! Anhören und selber entscheiden…
