Genre: Heavy Metal

Label: Massacre Records

Release: 19.01.2024

Klassischer kerniger Heavy Metal

Musik kennt eben kein Alter!

Fazit

Genre: Heavy Metal

Label: Massacre Records

Release: 19.01.2024

With THE RODS (Facebook), we once again have Metal veterans at the start who are still hungry and biting enough to release strong albums. THE RODS was founded in the U.S.A. in 1980 by David „Rock“ Feinstein (incidentally a cousin of the legendary Ronnie James Dio). They disbanded at the end of the 80s. But they reunited a long time later. In 2006 they started up again and released the three albums „Vengeance“, „Brotherhood Of Metal“ and „Live At Rose Hall“. It is also worth noting that Ronnie James Dio lent his voice to the song „The Code“ on the album „Vengeance“.

Classic gritty heavy metal

But now to the new album „Rattle In The Cage“. I always find it amazing how much energy rock musicians still bring to their work at an advanced age. Music knows no age! THE RODS play what they do best: Classic heavy metal! And the title track „Rattle The Cage“ is just such an anthem that immediately grabs you by the balls. Heavy riffs and a brisk beat get things moving. The bass also has a lot of presence, which is very dominant here and creates a fat groove with the cool bass lines. Totally strong! A compliment to Chris Collier, who did a great job mixing the sound. The sound has pressure and power without losing the classic vibes.

The interplay not only works perfectly with the instruments. Vocally, everything fits together and you can look forward to beautiful polyphonic choruses. The album is very entertaining and it’s not just the many speedy songs that are appealing.

One casually cool track is the song „Can’t Slow Down“, which has been inoculated with blues. There’s some great guitar work to marvel at here, which provides a lot of fun in extended solos. Only „Cry Out Loud“ is too long for me with a playing time of over seven minutes, although it is actually a strong number with a dark touch. On the whole, the songs are fortunately pleasantly crisp and entertaining.

Conclusion

THE RODS let it rip on „Rattle In The Cage“ with pithy classic heavy metal. Timeless, uncomplicated music where you immediately know what you’re in for and what to expect. Overall, however, it could have been even more biting in order to do full justice to the cover artwork. But it is definitely a strong album!

„Violent City“ lässt mich an The Rods zurück denken, während das treibende „Road War 2000“ an frühe ACCEPT erinnert.
