Heavy Dirty Rock

Eine coole Rock-Scheibe hat dann doch noch den Weg zu mir gefunden. Die Kultrocker CIRCLE CREEK (Facebook/Homepage) aus Österreich haben im August ihr neues Album „The World Is On Fire“ rausgefeuert. Die Geschichte der Band reicht bis in die 80’er Jahre zurück und wurde von den Zwillingen Christian & Didier Zirkelbach gegründet. Recht schnell waren sie schon damals als Live-Band sehr gefragt und haben die Bühnen mit Größen wie SCORPIONS oder STATUS QUO gerockt. Da darf man ja schon mal einiges erwarten.

Coolness

Man merkt den Jungs den Spaß an der Sache an. Die Musik kommt frech und lässig rüber. Dabei schwimmt auch gerne mal eine saftige Portion Humor bzw. Sarkasmus mit. So versprüht der flotte Opener „D.R.U.G.S.“ direkt gute Vibes und lässt das Rockherz höher schlagen. Der Coolnessfaktor ist echt hoch. Und das sich zudem noch eine sexy Frauenstimme ins Ohr schmeichelt, ist ein schönes zusätzliches Gimmick.

Apropos Sexiness…. Das Video zum Song „Tell Me Baby“ hat davon auch optisch einiges zu bieten, aber Vorsicht! Das toll in Szene gesetzte Video und der Song haben eine überraschende bitterböse Wendung parat. Der Song haut Euch zwischendurch fette Riffs um die Ohren und die lassen in der ansonsten lockeren Atmosphäre eine agressive bedrohliche Stimmung aufkommen.

Ernste Themen, schmutziger Rock’n Roll

CIRCLE CREEK impfen ihren Sound immer mal wieder mit coolen Ideen, die Pepp in das Ganze bringen. Beim Song „Peppers“ gibt es einen ausgedehnten Instrumentalpart, der von einem krachenden Drumsolo in ein langsam gespieltes Gitarrensolo übergeht, um dann wieder in den lockerne Kick-Ass-Chorus zu wechseln.

Was man vermutlich gar nicht von so einer Band erwarten würde, ist ein 9 minütiger Song! „Forever“ ist der langsam getragene Track, der mit seiner düsteren melancholischen Art durchaus zu unterhalten weiß. In die erzählerisch gehaltenen ruhigen Parts mischen sich rifflastige Ausbrüche und ausgiebige Solos. Lediglich hätte man meiner Meinung nach die ersten fünf Minuten des Songs ein wenig kürzer halten können. So wäre die erste Hälfte weniger zäh und der gesamte Song kurzweiliger geworden. Trotzdem mag ich den nachdenklichen Song mit seinem ganz eigenen rauen Charme.

Wo man jetzt schön gechillt ist, kommt mit dem Song „Creatures“ ein Tritt in den Arsch. Die Jungs treten ordentlich auf das Gaspedal, so dass Euch hier ein verdammt rasanter Rocker mitnimmt und mit seiner Craziness gute Laune verbreitet. „On My Own“ spielt wieder mit Gegensätzlichkeiten. Melancholische depressiv wirkende Parts duellieren sich mit aufrüttelnden energischen Attacken.

Walgesänge

leiten den Song „Killing Industries“ ein. Ungewöhnlich für so ein Album und von daher überrascht es natürlich! Langsam mischen sich seichte Gitarrenklänge darunter. Es folgt ein knackiger Bass und zunächst verhaltene Drums. Doch die fetzigen anklagenden Momente bleiben nicht aus. Der Song entwickelt sogar noch einen treibenden Groove. Der Song ist ganz klar ein besonderes Highlight für mich auf diesem Album. Und eine eindringliche warnende Botschaft hat er außerdem noch parat.

Fazit

CIRCLE CREEK ist mit „The World Is On Fire“ ein echt cooles Rock’n Roll Album gelungen, welches ernste Themen mit einer schmutzigen fetzigen Portion Craziness anpackt. Eine melancholische Seite schwingt manchmal mit, aber es bleibt trotzdem ein lebendiges unterhaltsames Album.

Heavy Dirty Rock

A cool rock record has found its way to me after all. The cult rockers CIRCLE CREEK (Facebook/Homepage) from Austria released their new album „The World Is On Fire“ in August. The history of the band goes back to the 80’s and was founded by the twins Christian & Didier Zirkelbach. Already back then they were very popular as a live band and rocked the stages with greats like SCORPIONS or STATUS QUO. So let’s hear what they have to offer us now.

Coolness

One can hear that the guys are having fun. The music comes across cheeky and casual. Also you can recognize partly a portion of humor or sarcasm floats along in the lyrics. Therefore the snappy opener „D.R.U.G.S.“ sprays directly good vibes and makes the rock heart beat faster. The coolness factor is really high. And this sexy woman’s voice is a nice additional gimmick that I like.

Speaking of sexiness…. The video for the song „Tell Me Baby“ has a lot to offer visually, but beware! This great staged video and the song have a surprising bitter-bitter twist ready. The song hits you in between fat riffs around the ears and they let in the otherwise relaxed atmosphere an aggressive threatening mood arise.

Serious topics, dirty rock’n roll

CIRCLE CREEK inoculate their sound every now and then with cool ideas that bring pep into the whole. In the song „Peppers“ there is an extended instrumental part, which changes from a crashing drum solo into a guitar solo, to then change back into the loose kick-ass chorus.

What you probably wouldn’t expect from such a band is a 9 minute song! „Forever“ is the slowly carried track, which knows how to entertain with its gloomy melancholic nature. In the narratively held quiet parts mix riff-heavy outbreaks and extensive solos. Only in my opinion, the first five minutes of the song could have been kept a little shorter. So the first half would have been less chewy and the whole song more exciting. Nevertheless, I like the thoughtful song with its very own rough charm.

Where you are now chilled, you get a huge kick in the ass with the song „Creatures“ a kick in the ass. The guys step properly on the gas pedal, so that here a damn fast rocker takes you along and spreads good mood with its craziness. „On My Own“ plays with contrasts again. Melancholic depressive parts duel with stirring energetic attacks.

introduce the song „Killing Industries“. Unusual for such an album and therefore it surprises of course! Slowly, shallow guitar sounds mix in. This is followed by a crisp bass and initially restrained drums. But the shredding accusatory moments are not missing. The song even develops a driving groove. The song is clearly a special highlight for me on this album. And it also has an insistent warning message.

Conclusion

CIRCLE CREEK has succeeded with „The World Is On Fire“ a really cool Rock’n Roll album, which tackles serious topics with a dirty groovy portion of craziness. But a melancholic side resonates as well. So it remains a an entertaining album.
