with powerful emotions and atmospheric depth will await us on 20.11.2020 from COMMUNIC (Facebook ). The troup has already been highly praised for their past works and it must be noted that they have been celebrating their music with the same line-up since their foundation in 2003. And now they send their new longplayer „Hiding From The World“ into the race. Interesting is the making of the album.

Fjord in Norwegen

After the songwriting was roughly finished, the band moved away from the „normal“ hectic chaotic world into an oasis of peace and seclusion; like „hiding from the world“. At a Nordic fjord, the band was only focused on themselves and could therefore fully grasp the meaning of the songs and arrange them accordingly before the recordings started in the studio.

The first treat

„My Temple Of Pride“ was served and I really liked it. Immediately I noticed the great voice of singer Oddleif Stensland (by the way also an ingenious guitarist), which immediately captivated me. He has a an excellent technique. You can listen to this singing for hours. How fitting that the album has a strikingly long playing time of actually 1 hour.

Technically sophisticated

and ambitous, the songs convince with an intelligent song structure and clear line. There are no stylistic or tonal surprises. Nevertheless COMMUNIC focuses on variety in the song technical structure, which is also necessary for the length of the songs. COMMUNIC succeeds in making the above-average playing times entertaining and captivating the listener. (In my opinion, only the beautiful power ballad „Born Without A Heart“ could have been more to the point with three minutes less playing time.) They alternate between quiet melodic restraint and hard eruptions in the form of thrashy interludes. One does not even shy away from blastbeats.

The title track „Hiding From The World“ is also a monster song. It starts with clean guitar and restrained drums. A tender guitar solo is added to it. The climax leads to massive riffs and powerful choir vocals with great hooks. In between the song glides into harder darker waters, passes some rapids with relaxed drifting in shallow waters.

„Hiding from The World“ was the first track we arranged and completed for the new album, and the song set the stone for much of the atmosphere and the mood on the album. It is a long song, moody, yet heavy with the dynamic build-up, tempo-changes and breakdowns we like to do. A story about a man on the edge of self-destruction, reaching out for help, but he seems like invicible to his surroundings, will anybody even notice if he disappear forever…. Hope you like it, it starts out slow, but goes heavy and deep and will take you on a journey, Cheers / Oddleif

Toughness meets emotions

„Plunder Of Thoughts“ introduces the album crisply and vehemently. For me, it’s a powerful performance, which comes across as fat and progressive and reveals the whole range of the COMMUNIC sound. A perfect introduction to the journey COMMUNIC takes us on. The powerful song is divided into driving forward pushing parts, partly bulky and massive rhythms up to shining melodic interludes. The songs „Face In The Crowd“ and „Scavengers Await“ strike with similar power.

Now from the first to the last track „Forgotten“, which is an epic masterpiece that is second to none. The song has a tremendous emotional depth that completely captured me. A veil of dark, depressive melancholy covers the song and then bursts out with a wave of emotional power that completely overwhelms you. The touching guitar solos do their part to make sure that this track has taken root in my heart and will certainly not be forgotten.

As a listener you should not expect the album to be easily accessible. This applies both to the lyrics and the songs themselves. In order to understand the songs, you should take your time and let the lyrics in connection with the compositions take effect on you. There are so many things to discover on the journey and there are so many emotions to capture.

As for the lyrics and overal theme I had in mind during the writing of these songs, is dealing with what we leave behind as a legacy when we die. I wrote these songs with a feeling inside that my life could end tomorrow, this could be the last thing I leave behind as my legacy. Tomorrow I could be crushed by a drunk phonetexting truckdriver on my way to pick up my kids atschool. Life is unpredictable and we don’t know what will happen around next corner.
Well that sounds really drepressing, but that is where these songs are coming from and I think that feeling was captured throughout the songs and the stories on this album. And the artwork of Travis Smith just nails this feeling of hopelessness, overtaken by the earth and everything feels like it is out of reach or to overwhelming to comprehend, but still there is some trace of hope left. Maybe the most epic collections of songs that we ever have written!

COMMUNIC convince with finest Power Metal, which shows off with hard line, but also a lot of feeling. The arrangements are bursting with emotional atmosphere and lyrical expressiveness. A remarkable album created by a fantastic trio.

mit kraftvollen Emotionen und atmosphärischem Tiefgang wird uns am 20.11.2020 von COMMUNIC (Facebook ) erwarten. Die Truppe wurde bereits wegen ihrer vergangenen Werke hochgelobt und man muss dazu anmerken, dass sie seit der Gründung 2003 immer noch mit der gleichen Besetzung ihre Musik zelebrieren. Und nun schicken sie ihren neusten Longplayer „Hiding From The World“ ins Rennen. Interessant ist dabei die Entstehung des Albums.

Fjord in Norwegen

Nachdem das Songwriting grob beendet war, begab sich die Band abseits der „normalen“ hektischen chaotischen Welt in eine Oase der Ruhe und Abgeschiedenheit, quasi „hiding from the world“ (passend zum Albumtitel). An einem nordischen Fjord war man nur auf sich selbst fokussiert und konnte so die Songs in ihrer Bedeutung vollständig erfassen und dementsprechend arrangieren, bevor die Aufnahmen im Studio starteten.

Das erste Leckerchen

vorab wurde mit „My Temple Of Pride“ aufgetischt und dieses hat mir richtig gut gemundet. Sofort ist mir die geile Stimme von Sänger Oddleif Stensland (nebenbei auch ein genialer Gitarrist) aufgefallen, die mich sofort in ihren Bann gezogen hat. Diesen Gesang mit seiner hervorragenden Technik kann man sich stundenlang anhören. Wie passend, dass das Album eine auffällig lange Spielzeit von tatsächlich 1 Stunde vorweisen kann.

Technisch ausgereift

und anspruchsvoll überzeugen die Songs mit einem intelligenten Songaufbau und klarer Linie. Stilistische oder klangliche Überraschungen bleiben aus. COMMUNIC setzt aber trotzdem auf Abwechslung im songtechnischen Aufbau, was bei der Länge der Songs auch notwendig ist. COMMUNIC schaffen es die überdurchschnittlich langen Spielzeiten kurzweilig zu gestalten und den Hörer zu fesseln. (Einzig die schöne Powerballade „Born Without A Heart“ hätte meiner Meinung nach mit drei Minuten weniger Spielzeit mehr auf den Punkt gebracht werden können.) Dabei wechseln sie zwischen ruhiger melodiöser Zurückhaltung und brettharten Eruptionen in Form von thrashigen Einlagen. Man schreckt sogar vor Blastbeats nicht zurück.

Der Titeltrack „Hiding From The World“ ist ebenfalls eine Monstersong. Er beginnt zunächst mit cleaner Gitarre und verhaltenen Drums. Ein zartes Gitarrensoli gesellt sich dazu. Die Klimax führt zu massiven Riffs und kraftvollen Chorgesängen mit tollen Hooks. Der Song gleitet zwischendurch in härteres düsteres Fahrwasser, durchfährt einige Stromschnellen mit entspanntem Treiben in seichten Gewässern.

„Hiding from The World“ war der erste Track, den wir für das neue Album arrangiert und fertiggestellt haben, und der Song legte den Grundstein für einen Großteil der Atmosphäre und die Stimmung auf dem Album. Es ist ein langer Song, launisch und doch schwer mit dem dynamischen Aufbau, den Tempoänderungen und den Zusammenbrüchen, die wir gerne machen. Eine Geschichte über einen Mann am Rande der Selbstzerstörung, der um Hilfe bittet, aber für seine Umgebung unsichtbar zu sein scheint, wird irgendjemand bemerken, wenn er für immer verschwindet … Hoffe es gefällt euch, es beginnt langsam, aber geht schwer und tief weiter und nimmt dich mit auf eine Reise

Härte trifft auf Emotionen

„Plunder Of Thoughts“ leitet das Album knackig und vehement ein. Für mich direkt ein verdammt mächtiger Aufritt, der schön fett progressiv daherkommt und die ganze Palette des COMMUNIC-Sounds offenbart. Ein perfekter Einstieg in die Reise, auf die uns COMMUNIC mitnehmen. Der kraftvolle Song unterteilt sich in treibende nach vorne preschende Parts, teils sperrigen und wuchtigen Rhythmen bis hin zu glänzenden melodischen Einlagen. Die Songs „Face In The Crowd“ und „Scavengers Await“ schlagen mit ähnlicher Power zu.

Nun vom ersten zum letzten Track „Forgotten“, der eine epische Meisterleistung darstellt, die ihresgleichen sucht. Der Song hat eine wahnsinnige emotionale Tiefe, die mich völlig eingefangen hat. Ein Mantel von dunkelschöner depressiver Melancholie legt sich über den Song und bricht dann mit einer Welle emotionaler Wucht hervor, von der man völlig überwältigt wird. Die ergreifenden Gitarrensoli tun ihr übriges dazu, dass sich dieser Track in meinem Herzen eingenistet hat und mit Sicherheit nicht vergessen werden wird.

Als Hörer sollte man nicht erwarten, dass das Album leicht zugänglich ist. Das betrifft sowohl die Texte als auch die Songs an sich. Um die Songs zu begreifen, sollte man sich Zeit nehmen und die Texte in Verbindung mit den Kompositionen auf sich wirken lassen. Es gibt auf der Reise so viele Dinge zu entdecken und es gibt so viele Emotionen, die es zu einzufangen gilt.

Was die Texte und das Gesamtthema betrifft, an das ich beim Schreiben dieser Songs gedacht habe, geht es um das, was wir als Vermächtnis hinterlassen, wenn wir sterben. Ich schrieb diese Songs mit dem Gefühl, dass mein Leben morgen enden könnte, dies könnte das Letzte sein, was ich als mein Vermächtnis zurücklasse. Morgen könnte ich auf dem Weg, meine Kinder in der Schule abzuholen, von einem betrunkenen, am Handy herumspielenden Trucker überfahren werden. Das Leben ist unvorhersehbar und wir wissen nicht, was an der nächste Ecke passieren wird.
Nun, das klingt wirklich depressiv, aber genau aus diesem Gefühl entstanden diese Songs und ich denke, das wurde in den Songs und den Geschichten auf diesem Album sehr gut eingefangen. Travis Smith trifft dazu mit seinem Artwork den Nagel auf den Kopf. Die Hoffnungslosigkeit, von der die Erde übermannt wird, alles fühlt sich unerreichbar oder zu groß an, um es zu verstehen, aber es gibt immer noch eine Spur von Hoffnung. Vielleicht sind es die epischsten Songs, die wir je geschrieben haben!

Fazit

COMMUNIC überzeugen mit allerfeinstem Power Metal, der mit harter Linie, aber auch viel Gefühl auftrumpft. Die Arrangements strotzen vor emotionaler Atmosphäre und lyrischer Aussagekraft. Ein bemerkenswertes Album, das von einem fantastischen Trio erschaffen worden ist.
