Classical Blues-Rock

The British couple Bond (No kidding!) has nothing to do with the secret service MI6, but have dedicated themselves to music together. What could be better? And yes… You can still inspire with classic old-school blues-rock! „Back To The Roots“ is the motto here and I would like to join that. WHEN RIVERS MEET (Facebook ) have released their album „We Fly Free“ on 20.11.2020 via One Road Records. Let’s have a closer look…

Authentic

until the last note the two play their numbers. These are earthy, honest rock numbers, which sparkle with passion and are soaked with heart blood. The album is framed by two rousing songs, the opener „Did I Break The Law“

and the finisher „We Fly Free“. The songs tear away snotty and dirty and make my blood boil. Here it goes energetically to the point. There are still some of these spirited songs on the record, for example „Bound For Nowhere“. The charming voice of Grace crowns the instrumental part and makes the music a really hot affair. But also Aaron doesn’t need to hide with his voice and so you can experience both in a harmonic duet.

With casual charm

and joyful catchiness the whole album shines. You can tell in every moment of the songs that Grace and Aaron approach the matter with uncanny passion and light-heartedness and truly live and embody their music. This is music with soul and feeling, which also likes to strike calm tones like for example “ I’d Fallen“, which creates a rather thoughtful melancholic mood. It seems as if they write their songs out of certain situations or moods, just songs from real life with honest feelings. It is nothing pompous and aloof, but pure music of the old days, reduced to the most necessary. The sound on the album comes across as if the two of them were playing the songs directly in front of you. It actually has a certain live atmosphere.

Apropos live

In times of lockdown, the two have transformed their home parlor into a cute little concert stage where they regularly give live stream concerts. This intimate personal atmosphere fits perfectly to the musical style of the two. This is a very likeable, full-blooded musician couple, who you just love to listen and watch. Nobody switches off voluntarily. Watch the following video! But take your time, because the video takes an hour. Among other things, songs from the current album are played, such as „Did I Break The Law“ (from minute 17:50) or „Kissing The Sky“ (from minute 29:00). Of course the sound is not as powerful and voluminous as on the album, but that goes without saying. By the way, there is also a cool cover version of the DEPECHE MODE song „Personal Jesus“, which you surely have never heard before. So just chill a few beers and enjoy….

WHEN RIVERS MEET rock the world with a soulful authentic sound, soaked with honest blues and rock, where feeling resonates in every note. It is magnificent entertainment that is offered here. „We Fly Free“ must definitely be in your collection. You can hardly find something like that anymore. I would invite them to the next cosy pub and could listen to them for hours. Simply intoxicating.

Das Ehepaar Bond (Kein Scherz!) aus England hat nichts mit dem Geheimdienst MI6 zu tun, sondern haben sich gemeinsam der Musik verschrieben. Was kann es schöneres geben? Und ja… Man kann mit klassischem Old-School-Blues-Rock nach wie vor begeistern! „Back To The Roots“ heißt es hier und dem schließe ich mich gerne an. WHEN RIVERS MEET (Facebook ) haben ihr Album „We Fly Free“ am 20.11.2020 via One Road Records veröffentlicht. Hören wir mal genauer rein…

Authentisch

bis in die letzte Note spielen die beiden ihre Nummern. Das sind erdige ehrliche Rocknummern, die nur so vor Leidenschaft sprühen und mit Herzblut getränkt sind. Eingerahmt wird das Album von zwei mitreißenden Songs, dem Opener „Did I Break The Law“

und dem Finisher „We Fly Free“. Die Songs fetzen rotzig und schmutzig davon und bringen das Blut zum Kochen. Hier geht es energisch zur Sache. Von diesen temperamentvollen Songs gibt es noch einige auf der Platte, so auch z.B. „Bound For Nowhere“. Die reizvolle Stimme von Grace krönt den instrumentalen Part und macht die Musik zu einer echt heißen Angelegenheit. Aber auch Aaron brauch sich mit seiner Stimme nicht zu verstecken und so darf man auch mal beide in einem harmonischen Duett erleben.

Mit lässigem Charme

und straighter Catchiness glänzt das ganze Album. Man merkt den Songs in jedem Moment an, dass die Grace und Aaron mit unheimlicher Leidenschaft und Unbeschwertheit an die Sache herangehen und ihre Musik wahrlich glaubhaft leben und verkörpern. Das ist Musik mit Seele und Gefühl, welche auch gerne mal ruhigere Töne anschlägt wie z.B. bei “ I´d Fallen“, der eine eher nachdenkliche melancholische Stimmung erzeugt. Oder man höre den Song „Bury My Body“, der in einem liebevollen harmonischen Duettgesang vorgetragen wird und den Hörer dahinschmelzen lässt. Es scheint als ob die beiden aus bestimmten Situationen oder Stimmungen heraus ihre Songs schreiben, eben Songs aus dem wahren Leben mit ehrlichen Gefühlen. Es ist nichts aufgeblasenes und abgehobenes, sondern pure bis auf das notwendigste reduzierte Musik der alten Tage. Der Klang kommt dabei auf dem Album so rüber, als würden die beiden direkt vor dir die Stücke zum Besten geben. Es ist sehr persönlich und hat tatsächlich eine gewisse Live-Atmosphäre.

Apropos live

Die beiden haben in Zeiten des Lockdowns ihre heimische Stube in ein kleine niedliche Konzertbühne verwandelt und geben dort regelmäßig Live-Stream-Konzerte. Diese intime persönliche Atmosphäre passt super zu dem Musikstil der beiden. Das ist ein sehr symphatisches Vollblutmusikerpärchen, denen man einfach gerne zuhört und zuschaut. Da schaltet niemand freiwillig ab. Seht Euch das folgende Video an! Aber nehmt Euch Zeit, denn das Video geht ne Stunde. Es werden unter anderem auch Songs vom aktuellen Album gespielt, so z.B. „Did I Break The Law“ (ab Minute 17:50) oder „Kissing The Sky“ (ab Minute 29:00). Ist natürlich vom Sound nicht so druckvoll und voluminös wie auf dem Album, aber das versteht sich ja von selbst. Nebenbei gibt es auch eine geile Cover-Version von dem DEPECHE MODE-Song „Personal Jesus“, den Ihr so bestimmt noch nie gehört habt. Also schön ein paar Bierchen kalt stellen und genießen….

Fazit

WHEN RIVERS MEET rocken die Hütte mit einem beseelten authentischen Sound, der mit ehrlichem Blues und Rock durchtränkt ist und wo das Gefühl in jeder Note mitschwingt. Die Produktion ist druckvoll, super abgemischt und vermittelt ein gewisses Live-Feeling. Es ist prächtige Unterhaltung, die hier geboten wird. „We Fly Free“ muss auf jeden Fall in Eure Sammlung. So etwas findet man heute kaum noch. Ich würde die beiden in die nächste gemütliche Kneipe einladen und könnte ihnen stundenlang zuhören. Einfach berauschend.
