Tremendous Symphonic-Metal

DAMNATION ANGELS took their time. Five years after their last output „The Valiant Fire“ the new album „Fiber Of Our Being“ will be finally released. This is the first album with a new line-up. With the new singer Ignacio (Iggy) Rodriguez and bassist Nic Southwood, the band is now attacking again and here you will find out if the fresh wind has lifted the sound into other spheres.

In a sea of melodies

DANMNATION ANGELS will let you drift, sometimes on a calm sea, sometimes with moderate swell and there may also be stormy winds. The English have immersed themselves deeply in songwriting and come back to the surface with real treasures. I’ve let the album rotate several times now and it just goes and goes and goes. There are always new things to discover and the journey across the sea of melodies never gets boring.

A Monument

the band has modelled itself with the album „Fiber Of Our Being“. Above all, the supernatural song „Remnants Of A Dying Star“ with its playing time of 13 minutes is enthroned. A true masterpiece, which unites all elements of DAMNATION ANGELS and puts them in scene in an excellent way. It’s a very orchestral song with cool choral elements, which in places sound next to the fantastic voice of Iggy. After five minutes a quiet dark part follows, which creates a nice tension until the song moves forward at a brisk pace. According to the title the song has a sublime colossal charisma. The interaction between metal sound, orchestral and synth sounds succeeds perfectly. It has always been a high art to compose songs with a long playing time, which on the one hand don’t get boring in the long run, but on the other hand don’t get cobbled together indiscriminately despite all the progressiveness. DAMNATION ANGELS are true professionals and the song has simply everything you could wish for. It is powerfully decorated with dreamlike melodies and offers a great variance. Speaking of dreamlike melodies…

„A Sum Of Our Parts“

One of the most beautiful ballads of recent times with melodies to fly away and a song to dream. It begins reservedly with a tender female voice, piano and dark chello. The singer enters with a warm melodic voice and the song intensifies. Then it gets calmer again, until it almost comes to a standstill, but suddenly the song comes out again with a powerful finish.

Beside the powerful ballads „Our Last Light“ and „Sum Of Our Parts“ there is of course also flawless symphonic heavy metal that rocks tremendously. For example the midtempo rocker „Railrunner“ or the more lively section with „Rewrite The Future“ and „Greed and Extinction“. Accordingly, you can look forward to classic wild guitar solos (not only for the above mentioned songs). I like the new voice of Iggy extraordinarily well, wonderfully harmonic, but can also rock out if necessary. „Fractured Amygdala“ comes up with an especially cool composed impressive symphonic middle part (tuba and cello i guess) from the third minute on, which enters a fantastic symbiosis with the metal sound in the transition. I love that! You can´t do it better. Then there is the anthemic title song „Fiber Of Our Being“, whose chorus immediately stuck in my head.

Conclusion

Not only the high-quality cover is a work of art. If you like progressive, but still catchy melodic Symphonic Metal, which can also take it easy and emotional, this is the right choice for you. As already said… It has become a musical monument and this can only mean full points.

Symphonic-Metal vom anderen Stern

DAMNATION ANGELS haben sich Zeit gelassen. Ganze fünf Jahre nach ihrem letzten Output „The Valiant Fire“ erscheint nun endlich das neue Werk „Fiber Of Our Being“. Dabei handelt es sich um den ersten musikalischen Erguss mit einer neuen Besetzung. Mit dem neuem Sänger Ignacio (Iggy) Rodriguez und Bassisten Nic Southwood greift man nun wieder an und hier werdet ihr erfahren, ob der frische Wind den Sound in andere Sphären gehoben hat.

In einem Meer von Melodien

lassen Euch DANMNATION ANGELS treiben, mal auf ruhiger See, mal mit gemäßigtem Wellengang und es darf auch gerne mal stürmischer Wind aufkommen. Die Engländer sind tief in das Songwriting eingetaucht und mit wahren Schätzen wieder an die Oberfläche gekommen. Ich habe das Album nun schon etliche Male rotieren lassen und es läuft und läuft und läuft. Es gibt immer neue Dinge zu entdecken und die Reise über das Meer von Melodien wird zu keinem Zeitpunkt langweilig.

Ein Denkmal

hat sich die Band mit dem Album „Fiber Of Our Being“ modelliert. Über allem thront der überirdische Song „Remnants Of A Dying Star“ mit seiner Spielzeit von 13 Minuten. Ein wahres Meisterwerk, der alle Elemente von DAMNATION ANGELS vereint und hervorragend in Szene setzt. Es ist ein sehr orchestraler Song mit coolen Chorelementen, die stellenweise neben der fantastischen Stimme von Iggy erklingen. Nach fünf Minuten folgt ein ruhiger dunkler Part, der eine schöne Spannung erzeugt, bis der Song in flottem Tempo nach vorne geht. Entsprechend dem Titel hat der Song eine erhabene kolossale Ausstrahlung. Das Zusammenspiel zwischen Metal-Sound, orchestralen und Synthiesounds gelingt perfekt. Es war schon immer eine hohe Kunst Lieder mit einer langen Spielzeit zu komponieren, die einerseits auf Dauer nicht langweilen, aber auch bei aller Progressivität nicht wahllos zusammengeschustert sind. DAMNATION ANGELS sind wahre Profis und der Song hat einfach alles, was man sich wünschen kann. Er ist kraftvoll mit traumhaften Melodien verziert und bietet eine tolle Varianz. Apropos traumhafte Melodien…

„A Sum Of Our Parts“

Eine der schönsten Balladen der letzten Zeit mit Melodien zum Wegfliegen und einem Gesang zum Träumen. Es beginnt zurückhaltend mit einer zarten Frauenstimme, Piano und dunklem Chello. Der Sänger steigt mit warmer melodischer Stimme ein und der Song intensiviert. Dann wird es wieder ruhiger, bis es fast zum Stillstand kommt, doch plötzlich kommt der Song noch einmal mit einem kraftvollen Finale hervor.

Es darf auch gerockt werden

Neben den kraftvollen Balladen „Our Last Light“ und „Sum Of Our Parts“ gibt es natürlich zudem lupenreinen symphonischen Heavy-Metal, der gewaltig rockt. Da wäre z.B. der Midtempo-Stampfer „Railrunner“ oder die flottere Abteilung mit „Rewrite The Future“ und „Greed and Extinction“. Man darf sich dementsprechend auf klassische fetzige Gitarrensolos freuen (nicht nur bei den o.g. Songs). Die neue Stimme von Ignacio Rodriguez gefällt mir außerordentlich gut, wunderschön harmonisch, kann aber auch richtig rocken, wenn es notwendig ist. „Fractured Amygdala“ wartet mit einem besonders geil komponierten symphonischen Mittelteil (mit beeindruckenden Bläsern und Streichern) ab der dritten Minute auf, der im Übergang eine fantastische Symbiose mit dem Metalsound eingeht. So was liebe ich! Besser kann man es nicht machen. Dann wäre da noch der hymnischen Titelsong „Fiber Of Our Being“, dessen Refrain sich umgehend in meinem Kopf festgesetzt hat.

Fazit

Nicht nur das hochwertige Cover ist ein Kunstwerk. Wer auf progressiven, aber trotzdem eingängigen melodischen Symphonic-Metal steht, der es auch mal ruhig und emotional angehen lässt, der ist hier genau richtig. Wie schon gesagt… Es ist ein musikalisches Denkmal geworden und dies kann nur volle Punktzahl bedeuten.
