TYGERS OF PAN TANG (Facebook) sind eine Band mit einer sehr langen Geschichte. Reinrassiger Heavy Metal mit fetziger Rock`n Roll Attitüde erwartet den Hörer. Ihr Debütalbum „Wild Cat“ erblickte 1980 das Licht der Welt. Lang lang ist es her…. Aber wollen nicht länger darüber reden, sondern auf das hier und jetzt schauen. Und hier und jetzt dauert es nicht mehr lange, bis die TYGERS uns mit ihrer neuen EP „A New Heartbeat“ (VÖ 18.02.2022) beehren. Diese soll quasi der Vorbote für den kommende Longplayer der Band sein.

Altes und neues

bieten TYGERS OF PAN TANG auf der neuen EP „A New Heartbeat“. Neuigkeiten gibt es übrigens auch im Bandgefüge. Mit von der Partie sind nun zum einen Francesco Marras als Gitarrist und zum anderen Huw Holding am Bass. Huw hat aber im Gegensatz zu Francesco noch nicht an der EP mitgewirkt.

Auf der EP sind vier Songs vertreten. Dabei sind „Firedown“ und „Killers“ Songs vom damaligen Debütalbum „Wild Cat“ aus dem Jahr 1980. Demgegenüber stehen die neuen Songs „A New Heartbeat“ und „Firedown“. Warum diese Songauswahl? Die Band kommentiert das so:

„Fireclown“ und „Killers“ sind arg vernachlässigte Perlen der TYGERS. Sie werden nur selten live gespielt, aber oft nachgefragt. Also dachten wir, es wäre interessant, eine moderne Version davon zu hören. Eine Reise in die Vergangenheit weckt bei uns und wohl auch bei den TYGERS-Anhängern viele Erinnerungen“.

Lockdown hat uns vielleicht daran gehindert, live zu spielen, aber es konnte den kreativen Geist nicht einschränken, der in der Kreation von „A New Heartbeat“ und „Red Mist“ für diese EP resultierte“.

Was tut diese EP?

Es rockt! Und was tut es noch? Es rockt! So könnte man die Songs zusammenfassen. Erstaunlich ist dabei, dass die Songs von 1980 nach der Herz-OP in Form neu eingespielter Aufnahmen immer noch total frisch und unverbraucht klingen.

„A New Heartbeat“

eröffnet das Songquartett sehr eingängig und lässt das Rockerherz warmlaufen. Tolle Melodien, die sich einschmeicheln und mit einem standesgemäßen Gitarrensolo macht man ohnehin nichts falsch.

Bei „Fireclown“ haben die TYGERS schon einen schnelleren Antritt und die Raubtiere zeigen Zähne. Fetzige Riffs und ein flotter Drumbeat treiben den Song voran. Und wenn mich Gitarrensolos mitreißen, dann solche wie in diesem Lied, die schön scharf und knackig daherkommen. Das ist schon ne belebende Herzmassage.

„Red Mist“ haut mit fetten Riffs durch und „Killers“ sticht mit einem krassen Bass hervor, der einen megamäßigen Drive und Groove innehat. Das Gitarrensolo fetzt wieder wie Sau und geht ab wie Schmidts Katze.

So haben wir eine mehr als gelungene Vorstellung und es macht mich neugierig auf den kommenden Longplayer. Allderdings ist noch kein genaues Veröffentlichungsdatum bekannt.

TYGERS OF PAN TANG (Facebook) are a band with a very long history. Purebred Heavy Metal with a Rock’n’Roll attitude awaits the listener. Their debut album „Wild Cat“ saw the light of day in 1980. Long time ago…. But we don`t want to talk about it any longer, but look at the here and now. And here and now it won’t be long until the TYGERS honor us with their new EP „A New Heartbeat“ (Release 2022-02-18). This is supposed to be the harbinger for the upcoming longplayer of the band.

Old and new

TYGERS OF PAN TANG offer on the new EP „A New Heartbeat“. By the way, there is also something new in the band structure. Francesco Marras as guitarist and Huw Holding on bass are now part of the band. Huw has not yet contributed to the EP. Francesco, on the other hand, has.

Four songs are represented on the EP. „Firedown“ and „Killers“ are songs from the then debut album „Wild Cat“ from 1980. Further there are the new songs „A New Heartbeat“ and „Firedown“. Why this song selection? The band comments like this:

„Fireclown” and “Killers” are much neglected Tygers gems. They are rarely played live but often requested so we thought it would be interesting to hear a modern take on them. Visiting the past brings back so many memories for us and, I’m guessing, for Tygers followers.

Lockdown may have prevented us from playing live but it couldn’t curtail the creative spirt that has resulted in the creation of “A New Heartbeat” and “Red Mist” for this single.

What does this EP do?

It rocks! And what else does it do? It rocks! That’s how you could sum up the songs. It is amazing that the songs from 1980 still sound totally fresh and unspent after the heart surgery in the form of new recordings.

„A New Heartbeat“

opens the song quartet very catchy and lets the rocker heart warm up. Great melodies that ingratiate themselves and with a standard guitar solo you do nothing wrong anyway.

With „Fireclown“ the TYGERS already have a faster start and the predators show teeth. Fancy riffs and a snappy drumbeat drive the song forward. And if guitar solos carry me away, then such as in this song, which come along nice sharp and crisp. This is already an invigorating heart massage.

„Red Mist“ hits the ground running with fat riffs and „Killers“ stands out with a killer bass that has a mega drive and groove. The guitar solo shreds like hell and goes off like hell.

So we have a more than successful performance and it makes me curious about the upcoming album. But no exact release date is known yet.

Das neue Album der Tygers Of Pan Tang

Fazit

Die eingangs gestellte Frage, ob die Tygers of Pan Tang das Niveau von „Ambush“ halten können, kann eindeutig mit „Ja“ beantwortet werden. Die Band gibt alles um den Tygers-Fan zufriedenzustellen. Insbesondere Sänger Jacopo Meille macht einen verdammt guten Job. Hätte man diesen Mann doch schon nach dem Ausscheiden von Jon Deverill im Jahre 1987 gehabt. Na ja, um so mehr können Robb Weir und seine Mannen froh sein, dass sie ihn jetzt haben.

Das Album ist hörenswert und hat Klasse. Der Sound der Tygers wurde gut in die heutige Zeit transportiert. Die Produktion ist dynamisch und druckvoll und die Musiker agieren voller Harmonie. Das Album kommt aus Sicht des Songwritings sicher nicht an die ganz großen Zeiten heran, bietet aber genug Potenzial um eine neue Ära einzuleuten. Hört es euch einfach selbst einmal an.
