SAMURAI PIZZA CATS

Die SAMURAI PIZZA CATS (Facebook)! Wie zur Hölle kommt man auf so einen abgefuckten verrückten Bandnamen? Es scheint, als ob sich die Jungs von einer japanischen Anime-Serie haben inspirieren lassen. In der Serie geht es um Katzen, die in einer Stadt voller tierischer Einwohner eine Pizzaschmiede betreiben, aber eigentlich ist das nur eine Tarnung für ihre eigentlich Mission, nämlich die Stadt vor bösen Fieslingen zu beschützen.

Genauso crazy wie diese Serie geht es auch beim Sound der deutschen Band zu. Grundsätzlich interpretieren die SAMURAI PIZZA CATS auf ihrem neuen Album „You’re Hellcome“ den Metalcore sehr modern und oft erfrischend anders. Sprich, wir finden hier allerlei Elemente aus anderen Bereichen. Als hervorstechendstes Merkmal seien hier die Techno/Trance-Synths genannt, welche für einen speziellen Touch sorgen. Als Vergleich könnte man ‚Electric Callboy‘ heranziehen. Dafür steht beispielsweise der Song „Pizza Homicide“, in dem sich diese Elemente wiederfinden. Herrlicher Song! (unten im Video)

Die Songs sind somit eine bunte Wundertüte und mit den Songs „Last Player“ oder dem Bonustrack „Welcome To The Fight Club“,feat. Fabio Schäfer, wagt man sich sogar in Richtung Deathcore. Ansonsten setzt man auf knackige Beats und treibende Rhythmen wobei man zwischen extremen und cleanen Vocals wechselt. Dabei wird man echt eingängigen Refrains abgeholt, die schön im Kopf kleben bleiben. Bei diesem Mix passt sogar Rapperin Nina Chartier perfekt ins Konzept, die hier einen lässig coolen Part beim Song „Alpha“ beisteuert. Und eine Gastsängerin wie Alma Alizadeh von der Band ‚For I Am King‘ auf dem Track „You’re Hellcome“ passt natürlich wie die Faust aufs Auge. Witziger Zufall, dass ‚For I Am King‘ hier in dieser Liste auch noch auftauchen werden.

REPENTANCE

REPENTANCE (Facebook) explodieren auf ihrem Album „The Process Of Human Demise“. Im Grunde sind REPENTANCE das genaue Gegenteil von der erstgenannten Band. Bei REPENTANCE gibt es nur eine Richtung, und zwar knallhart geradeaus und direkt in die Fresse, ganz ohne modernes Zubrot. Ihr braucht gar nicht auf den Pausengong warten, der euch einige Momente der Ruhe gönnt. Genauso wenig werden euch schmeichelnde Melodien oder cleane versöhnliche Vocals das Köpfchen streicheln. Hier gibt es durchweg eine Prügelorgie, die euch den Arsch versohlt. Und das hört man in der konsequenten Art und Weise nicht mehr so oft. Und deshalb gehört das Album für mich in diese Toplist. Also wer mal irgendwie Aggression loswerden möchte oder im Fitnessstudio Höchstleistungen vollbringen möchte, dem sei diese Band wärmstens ans Herz gelegt. Pure Zerstörung!

BENEATH MY FEET

BENEATH MY FEET (Facebook) gehen den Weg der Zerstörung ein wenig differenzierter an und arbeiten auch mit cleanen Vocals und gefälligen Melodien. Die Mischung passt meiner Meinung nach hervorragend und die Freunde harter Metalkunst werden hier nicht enttäuscht werden. Ganz im Gegenteil. Grundsätzlich sind die Songs mit einer immensen Power ausgestattet, die einen förmlich von den Füßen fegt. Dabei kann die Band auch gerne die cleanen Vocals einschränken oder ganz darauf verzichten wie beim Song „Dig My Grave“.

Die Band gönnt dem Hörer auch etwas entspanntere Momente, wenn auch nicht viele. Dazu gehören die Songs „Far From Home“ und „Departure“. „Departure“ stützt sich nicht primär auf Aggressivität, sondern setzt eher auf melodische Komponenten. Es ist ein ausgeglichener Song, wobei man sogar in einem sehr ruhigen bedächtigen Schlusspart mit einer schmeichelnden Trompete und seichten Pianoklängen überrascht wird. Sehr cool gemacht!

So setzt man nicht nur auf pure Eskalation, sondern gewährt dem Hörer auch mal eingängige melodische Einlagen, die aber ebenfalls mit gehöriger Power dargeboten werden. So entsteht ein überaus stimmiges Gesamtkonzept, das zu unterhalten weiß. 

„Caught In A Hurricane“

FOR I AM KING

FOR I AM KING (Facebook) sind eine niederländische Band, die Euch kompromisslosen Metalcore um die Ohren ballern. Das neue Album „Crown“ erschien Anfang des Jahres. Aber kein Grund es in Vergessenheit geraten zu lassen. Dafür ist das Album einfach zu geil.

Hier gibt es von Anfang bis Ende satte Metalcore Smasher vor den Kopf geknallt. Rein technisch bewegt sich die Band dabei auf hohem Niveau. Die Vehemenz ist tatsächlich sehr beeindruckend. Hier fliegen die Fetzen! Eine stumpfe Vorstellung ist es dennoch nicht. Die Songs sind trotzdem sehr melodisch komponiert. Die Gitarren trumpfen nicht nur mit massivem Riffing. Auch die Leadgitarre ist hammermäßig und begeistert immer wieder aufs neue und zaubert sogar epische Momente hervor. Daneben wimmelt es nur so von Tempiwechseln, die unter anderem vom Drummer hervorragend dargeboten werden. Für Sängerin Alma Alizadeh fällt mir nur ein Vergleich ein: Sie ist ein wahrer Orkan.

FOR I AM KING ist mit ihrem dritten Album „Crown“ ein großartiges Album gelungen. Es ist ein umwerfendes Erlebnis, wenn eine grundlegend brutale Darbietung mit so viel melodischer Kunst auf einem hohen technischen Level geschmettert wird. Dabei wird auf ein homogenes, aber differenziertes musikalisches Konzept wert gelegt, dass einen feinen Sinn für Details erkennen lässt. (Review)

„Liars“

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND (Facebook) kommen aus Stuttgart und können auf ihrem Debüt „Pieces“ mit beeindruckendem Metalcore begeistern.  Der Mix zwischen brutalen Angriffen und melodischen gesungenen Refrains ist natürlich nicht neu, aber immer noch sehr angesagt. Da braucht man sich vor großen Namen in dem Business gar nicht verstecken.

Die Melodien sind eingängig, aber zugleich kraftvoll. Instrumental lässt man ebenfalls die Muskeln spielen und erschafft atmosphärische dichte Songs. Man kann sich sogar hin und wieder an einem tollen Gitarrensolo erfreuen, was in diesem Genre gar nicht so üblich ist. Positiv anzumerken ist jedenfalls, dass die Band sich genügend einfallen lässt, um den Songs jeweils einen eigenen Anstrich zu verpassen, so dass das gesamte Repertoir nicht austauschbar wirkt. Man haut mit dem Schlusstrack „Blinding Lights“ sogar einen fast fröhlichen rockigen Track raus, den ich sehr wohlwollend aufgenommen habe und nur die Vielseitigkeit der Band unterstreicht.

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND haben mit „Pieces“ ein verdammt ausgereiftes Debüt an den Start gebracht, dass sich vor den großen Bands in dem Genre sicherlich nicht verstecken muss. Denn ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND schmettern Metalcore, der hervorragend inszeniert ist und ein gewaltiges Potential offenbart. Wer auf einen modernen atmosphärischen Mix mit brutalen Angriffen und wunderbaren melodisch emotionalen Momenten steht, kommt an der Band nicht vorbei.

AUGUST BURNS RED

AUGUST BURNS RED (Facebook) schlagen wieder zu. Nach dem letzten gewaltigen Schuss ‚Guardians“ im Jahr 2020 laden sie nun mit „Death Below“ nach. Es geht weiter heftig zur Sache und die Männer sprühen nur so vor Energie, und das über fast eine Stunde lang. Zwei Tracks erreichen sogar fast die Acht-Minuten-Marke. Bei solch komplexen Songstrukturen könnte man sie sogar als progressiv bezeichnen. Die Eindrücke auf dem Album sind jedenfalls vielfältig.

Neben verdammt viel brutaler Power gibt es auch ruhigere Phasen, die sich aber wunderbar einfügen und letztlich für besondere individuelle Momente sorgen. Man nehme z.B. die fast zweiminütige relaxte Einleitung beim Song „Fool’s Gold in the Bear Trap“ oder das kurze instrumentale Zwischenspiel „Sevink“. Solche Phasen halte ich persönlich für wichtig, um in der ganzen brutalen Geschichte nicht komplett erschlagen zu werden. Oft kommt auch ein starker Chorus zum Einsatz, der inmitten der furiosen brutalen Soundwelten mit den kraftvollen Vocals für den nötigen Pfiff sorgt. Dazu fallen mir spontan Songs ein wie „Deadbolt“ und „Backfire“ ein. Zwei echt geile Knaller! (Review)

AUGUST BURNS RED liefern immer wieder brachiale Alben ab. „Death Below“ bildet da keine Ausnahme. Man bekommt, was man erwartet. Ein technisch ausgereiftes musikalisches Erlebnis mit Dampfhammergarantie. Die neuen Songs sind noch düsterer und härter, kurzum, extremer.

SAMURAI PIZZA CATS

The SAMURAI PIZZA CATS (Facebook)! How the hell do you come up with such a fucked-up, crazy band name? It seems like the guys were inspired by a Japanese anime series. The series is about cats who run a pizzeria in a town full of animal inhabitants, but it’s actually just a cover for their real mission, which is to protect the town from evil meanies.

The sound of the German band is just as crazy as this series. Basically, the SAMURAI PIZZA CATS interpret Metalcore in a very modern and often refreshingly different way on their new album „You’re Hellcome“. In other words, we find all kinds of elements from other genres here. The most striking feature here is the techno/trance synths, which add a special touch. ‚Electric Callboy‘ could be used as a comparison. The song „Pizza Homicide“, for example, in which these elements can be found. Wonderful song! (below in the video)

This album is a colorful surprise bag and with songs like „Last Player“ or the bonus track „Welcome To The Fight Club“, feat. Fabio Schäfer, they even venture in the direction of Deathcore. Otherwise, they rely on crisp beats and driving rhythms, alternating between extreme and clean vocals. The choruses are really catchy and stick in your head. Rapper Nina Chartier even fits perfectly into the concept of this mix, contributing a casually cool part to the song „Alpha“. And a guest singer like Alma Alizadeh from the band ‚For I Am King‘ on the track „You’re Hellcome“ is a natural fit. It’s a funny coincidence that ‚For I Am King‘ will also appear on this list.

REPENTANCE

REPENTANCE (Facebook) explode on their album „The Process Of Human Demise“. There is only one direction on this album, and that is straight ahead in your face. You don’t need to wait for the bell to give you a few moments of peace. Neither will you be caressed by flattering melodies or clean, conciliatory vocals. There’s an orgy of bludgeoning throughout that will spank your ass. And you don’t hear that so often anymore in such a consistent way. And that’s why the album belongs in this top list for me. So if you want to get rid of some aggression or perform at your best in the gym, this band is highly recommended. Pure destruction!

BENEATH MY FEET

BENEATH MY FEET (Facebook) take a slightly more differentiated approach to destruction and also work with clean vocals and pleasing melodies. In my opinion, the mixture fits perfectly and friends of hard Metal will not be disappointed here. On the contrary. Basically, the songs are equipped with an immense power that literally sweeps you off your feet. The band can also limit the clean vocals or do without them completely, as on the song „Dig My Grave“.

The band also allows the listener some more relaxed moments, although not many. These include the songs „Far From Home“ and „Departure“. „Departure“ does not rely primarily on aggression, but rather on melodic components. It is a well-balanced song, and you are even surprised in a very quiet, deliberate final part with a flattering trumpet and shallow piano sounds. Very cool!

BENEATH MY FEET don’t just rely on pure escalation, but also allow the listener some catchy melodic interludes, which are also presented with plenty of power. The result is an extremely coherent overall concept that knows how to entertain.

FOR I AM KING (Facebook) are a Dutch band that blast uncompromising Metalcore into your ears. The new album „Crown“ was released at the beginning of the year. But no reason to let it fall into oblivion. The album is simply too hot for that.

From start to finish, you get a full Metalcore smash. Technically, the band performs at a high level. The vehemence is indeed very impressive. The shreds fly here! Nevertheless, it is not a dull performance. These songs are nevertheless composed very melodically. The guitars don’t just trump with massive riffing. The lead guitar is also awesome and inspires again and again and even conjures up epic moments. In addition, the band is teeming with tempo changes, which are excellently performed by the drummer, among others. I can only think of one comparison for singer Alma Alizadeh: she is a true hurricane.

FOR I AM KING have succeeded in creating a great album with their third album „Crown“. It is a stunning experience when a fundamentally brutal performance is delivered with so much melodic artistry at a high technical level. The emphasis is on a homogeneous but differentiated musical concept that reveals a fine sense of detail.(Review)

„Liars“

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND (Facebook) come from Germany and impress with their impressive Metalcore on their debut „Pieces“. The mix of brutal attacks and melodic, sung choruses is of course nothing new, but it is still very popular. There’s no need to hide from the big names in the business.

The melodies are catchy but powerful at the same time. Instrumentally, they also flex their muscles and create atmospherically dense songs. You can even enjoy a nice guitar solo from time to time, which is not so common in this genre. On a positive note, the band comes up with enough ideas to give the songs their own individual touch, so that the entire repertoire doesn’t seem interchangeable. The final track „Blinding Lights“ is even an almost cheerful rock track, which I received very favorably and only underlines the band’s versatility.

With „Pieces“, ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND have released a damn mature debut that certainly doesn’t have to hide from the big bands in the genre. ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND play metalcore that is superbly produced and reveals enormous potential. If you like a modern atmospheric mix with brutal attacks and wonderful melodic and emotional moments, you can’t miss this band.

„Your Ghost“

AUGUST BURNS RED (Facebook) strike again. After the last powerful shot of „Guardians“ in 2020, they reload with „Death Below“. Things continue to heat up and the men are bursting with energy for almost an hour. Two tracks even almost reach the eight-minute mark. With such complex song structures, they could even be described as progressive. In any case, the impressions on the album are varied.

In addition to a hell of a lot of brutal power, there are also quieter phases that fit in wonderfully and ultimately provide special individual moments. Take, for example, the almost two-minute relaxed introduction to the song „Fool’s Gold in the Bear Trap“ or the short instrumental interlude „Sevink“. I personally think such phases are important so as not to be completely overwhelmed by the whole brutal story. A strong chorus with powerful vocals is also often used, which provides the necessary punch in the midst of the furious brutal soundscapes. Songs like „Deadbolt“ and „Backfire“ come to mind spontaneously. Two really cool bangers!

AUGUST BURNS RED deliver brutal albums time and time again. „Death Below“ is no exception. You get what you expect. A technically mature musical experience! The new songs are even darker and heavier, in short, more extreme.(Review)

Schon nach den ersten Minuten wird schnell klar, dass man es hier mit einer höchst professionellen Geschichte zu tun hat, die absolut hochwertig in Szene gesetzt wird; sowohl musikalisch als auch visuell. Der Mix zwischen brutalen Angriffen und melodischen gesungenen Refrains ist natürlich nicht neu, aber immer noch sehr angesagt. Und auch bei mir rennt man damit offene Türen ein, wenn es so toll umgesetzt wird wie bei ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND. Da braucht man sich vor großen Namen in dem Business gar nicht verstecken.

Super stark!

Der Opener „Beyond Life“ baut die Spannung langsam auf, um sich dann energisch zu entladen. Die extremen Vocals von Sänger Dennis haben es in sich und hauen richtig auf den Putz. Die cleanen Vocals von Lars kommen ebenfalls super rüber und auch im Gleichklang mit den extremen Growls klingt das hervorragend. Die Melodien sind eingängig, aber zugleich kraftvoll. Instrumental lässt man ebenfalls die Muskeln spielen und erschafft einen atmosphärisch dichten Song. Ein tolles Gitarrensolo hätte ich hier bei diesem Genre gar nicht erwartet. Eine schöne Überraschung!

Wahnsinniges Potential

Positiv anzumerken ist jedenfalls, dass die Band sich genügend einfallen lässt, um den Songs jeweils einen eigenen Anstrich zu verpassen, so dass das gesamte Repertoir nicht austauschbar wirkt. Man legt auch wert darauf, dass gerade bei den extremen Vocals viel passiert. Sänger Dennis probiert sich da gerne aus und das tut dem Sound unheimlich gut.

Apropos unheimlich… „Eyes Wide Shut“ ist ein düsteres Monster, dass mit krassen Bassschwingungen aufschlägt und mit erschütternden Breakdowns die Erde zum erzittern bringt. Hier finde ich es passend, dass man auf cleane Vocals verzichtet hat und so der finstere Grundgedanke des Songs erhalten bleibt.

Als Gegenbeispiel zu „Eyes Wide Shut“ sei „Blinding Lights“ genannt, wo die cleanen Vocals den Hauptpart übernehmen, aber die extremen Vocals geschickt im Hintergrund agieren und lediglich in einer kürzeren Sequenz dominieren. Dieser Song als Schlusstrack ist wohl der „fröhlichste“ Song auf dem Album. Er geht schön flott voran ist ziemlich eingängig rockig arrangiert. Gefällt mir auch sehr sehr gut.

Es zeigt sich also, dass ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND nicht immer nach dem gleichen Schema vorgehen und die Dosierung der unterschiedlichen Gesangsformen variabel eingesetzt wird. Dies unterstreicht die Vielseitigkeit der Band.

Ebenso ist mir „Sulfur“ besonders aufgefallen, der ganz anders aufgebaut ist, aber nicht weniger imposant. Dieser Song zeigt sich zunächst mit bedächtiger Atmosphäre und ruhigem Gesang, entfaltet sich sich dann aber zwischendurch kraftvoll zu einem mächtigen Konstrukt. Und dann kommt dieser Part ab Minute 02:40, der gnadenlos reinhaut, um dann wieder in eine ruhige atmosphärische Phase hineinzugleiten, an die sich ein kleines aber feines Gitarrensolo anschließt.

Das Video zu „Dissumulate“ möchte ich euch nicht vorenthalten. Denn auch dieses ist cool umgesetzt und der Song unterstreicht die hohe Qualität der Band.

Fazit

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND haben mit „Pieces“ ein verdammt ausgereiftes Debüt an den Start gebracht, dass sich vor den großen Bands in dem Genre sicherlich nicht verstecken muss. Denn ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND schmettern Metalcore, der hervorragend inszeniert ist und ein gewaltiges Potential offenbart. Wer auf einen modernen atmosphärischen Mix mit brutalen Angriffen und wunderbaren melodisch emotionalen Momenten steht, kommt an der Band nicht vorbei.

ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND (Facebook) come from Germany and impress with their damn strong metalcore debut „Pieces“. In a crisp 36 minutes, you really get something on your ears.

After the first few minutes, it quickly becomes clear that you are dealing with a highly professional production that is staged to an absolutely high standard, both musically and visually. The mix of brutal attacks and melodic, sung choruses is of course nothing new, but it is still very popular. And when it’s done as well as ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND, it opens doors for me too. There’s no need to hide from the big names in this business.

Damn strong!

The opener „Beyond Life“ slowly builds up the tension and then unloads energetically. The extreme vocals of singer Dennis are really something and really hit the spot. Lars‘ clean vocals also come across really well and sound excellent in unison with the extreme growls. The melodies are catchy but also powerful. Instrumentally, they also flex their muscles and create an atmospherically dense song. I wouldn’t have expected a great guitar solo in this genre. A nice surprise!

Great potential

On a positive note, the band have come up with enough ideas to give the songs their own individual touch, so that the entire repertoire doesn’t seem interchangeable. It is also important that a lot happens, especially with the extreme vocals. Singer Dennis likes to try things out and that enriches the whole sound.

„Eyes Wide Shut“ is a dark monster that strikes with blatant bass vibrations and makes the earth tremble with shattering breakdowns. I think it’s fitting that no clean vocals are used here, so that the dark basic idea of the song is retained.

A counter-example to „Eyes Wide Shut“ is „Blinding Lights“, where the clean vocals take over the main part, but the extreme vocals skillfully act in the background and only dominate in a shorter sequence. This song as the closing track is probably the most „cheerful“ song on the album. It moves along nicely and is arranged in a catchy rock style. I also like it very much.

This shows that ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND do not always follow the same pattern and that the dosage of the different vocal forms is used variably. This underlines the band’s versatility.

I’m also struck by „Sulfur“, which has a completely different concept, but is no less impressive. This song begins with a deliberate atmosphere and calm vocals, but then unfolds powerfully into a mighty banger. And then there is this part from minute 02:40 onwards, which mercilessly kicks in, only to slide back into a calm, atmospheric phase, which is followed by a small but fine guitar solo.

I don’t want to withhold the video for „Dissumulate“ from you. It’s also cool and the song underlines the high quality of the band.

Conclusion

With „Pieces“, ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND have released a damn mature debut that certainly doesn’t have to hide from the big bands in the genre. ESCAPE FROM WONDERLAND bang metalcore that is superbly produced and reveals enormous potential. If you like a modern atmospheric mix with brutal attacks and wonderful melodic and emotional moments, you can’t miss this band.
