Frederik Møller

als begnadeter Gitarrist und Songwriter der beliebten Band DEFECTO ist ein sehr umtriebiger Mann und ambitionierter Mann. Ein richtiger Macher! Er hat seit einiger Zeit ein neues Bandprojekt namens SUMR (Facebook) laufen und nach ganz viel Arbeit hat er die erste Single „Firestarter“ am 08.07.’22 veröffentlicht.

Wie man sich bereits denken kann, ist der Sound natürlich ein anderer als das, was wir von DEFECTO gewohnt sind. Gerade die letzten Singles von DEFECTO waren sehr düster gehalten. Der Song „Firestarter“ von SUMR ist sehr modern ausgerichtet und ich muss sagen, dass ich so etwas noch nie in der Form gehört habe.

Frohsinn ist der Schlüssel

Es beginnt poppig und man könnte fast meinen, man wäre irgendwo an einem Strand und würde zu sommerlichen Beats tanzen. Doch nach und nach offenbart der Song eine Entwicklung, die daraufhin deutet, dass es der Song nicht das ist, wofür man ihn anfangs halten könnte. Denn der Song trägt eine Wildheit in sich. Man lausche dem filigranen lebendigen Gitarrenspiel, welches zunächst ein wenig im Hintergrund erklingt und sich sich später in einer riffbetonten Explosion entlädt und zu einem wahnsinnigen Gitarrensolo führt. Ohnehin sind die Gitarrenkünste von Frederik auf einem sehr hohen Niveau und technisch brilliant. Das habe ich in der Form noch nirgends gehört. Das betrifft nicht nur das atemberaubende Solo, sondern den gesamten Song.

Sänger Mirza Radonjica von der Band SIAMESE (Facebook) macht hier ebenfalls einen überragenden Job. Er brilliert sowohl in den cleanen melodiösen Phasen, als auch in den martialischen Ausbrüchen, die in ihrem Höhepunkt sogar Metalniveau erreichen. Er hat ein wahnsinnig gutes Gefühl für den Song und interpretiert ihn perfekt. Von seinen Fähigkeiten und seiner geilen Stimme könnt Ihr Euch auch bei der Band SIAMESE überzeugen. Muss man gehört haben! Doch hier geht es um den genialen Song „Firestarter“ von SUMR. Für mich ein perfekter Sommerhit! Viel Spaß damit!

Interview mit Frederik Møller

Entstehung von SUMR

MH: Hallo Frederik! Ich weiß, dass du viel Zeit, Arbeit und Schweiß in dein persönliches Projekt gesteckt hast. Wie kam es überhaupt zu Deinem Projekt SUMR?

Frederik: „Firestarter“ war der allererste Song, den ich für SUMR geschrieben oder auch nur erdacht habe. Das war damals im Jahr 2019, bevor ich überhaupt daran dachte, ein Projekt daraus zu machen. Damals hatte ich gerade eine Menge Songs für DEFECTO geschrieben, und einer davon war der Song ‚Washed Away‘, der für mich ein sehr sommerliches EDM (Electric Dance Music)-Gefühl hatte.

Die fröhliche Seite

MH: In der Tat hat mich dieser Song auf dem Album „Duality“ sehr überrascht, da er mit einer ungewöhnlich poppigen fröhlichen Art daherkam. Damit hätte ich bei DEFECTO nicht gerechnet. Du scheinst also mehrere Facetten zu haben oder in zwei Welten zu leben?

Frederik: Ich glaube, ich hatte damals das Gefühl, dass ich nie nur der pure harte Metaller war. Also brauchte ich in diesem Sinne eine Art Gegenpart zu der harten und düstern Seite. Und ich merkte, dass ich die Stimmung dieses Liedes sehr mochte. Also wollte ich darauf aufbauen. Aber ich hatte irgendwie das Gefühl, dass es keine gute Idee wäre, solche Dinge in DEFECTO einzubauen – der Ausdruck war einfach zu unterschiedlich

MH: Also hast Du Gefallen daran gefunden. Es ist also wahrscheinlich nicht nur bei dem Song „Firestarter“ geblieben?

Frederik: Nein, ich fing an mehr Songs in dieser Richtung zu schreiben – sommerlich, melancholisch, mit weniger Verzerrung auf den Gitarren und mehr Fokus auf saubere/atmosphärische Töne und ein fröhlicheres Gefühl.

Wie auch immer, ich hatte den Song „Firestarter“ bis 2022 als grobes Demo, und dann habe ich Mirza gebeten, mir bei den Melodien zu helfen – und er hat zugestimmt. Der Text selbst wurde ziemlich schnell an dem Tag geschrieben, an dem wir uns zusammengesetzt haben. Es ist ein Song, der im Grunde genommen nur davon handelt, dass man an sich selbst zweifelt und über alles nachdenkt.

Zu viele Gedanken

MH: Spricht der Inhalt aus Dir selbst?

Frederik: Ja, dass trifft auch auf mich irgendwie zu. Ich war schon immer ziemlich unsicher, was viele Dinge angeht, und deshalb denke ich immer zu viel nach, analysiere alles und mache mir Sorgen. Und genau darum geht es in dem Song.

MH: Müssen wir uns Sorgen über Deine Rolle bei DEFECTO machen?

Frederik: Auf keinen Fall! Wenn überhaupt, dann hilft mir das, meine dunkle Seite DEFECTO effizienter zu widmen.

MH: Vielen Dank an Frederik, der sich wirklich ganz spontan (spontaner geht es schon gar nicht mehr) die Zeit genommen hat, um uns mehr über sein persönliches Projekt zu erzählen.

SUMR-First Single „Firestarter“-A summer hit!

as a gifted guitarist and songwriter of the popular band DEFECTO (Facebook) is a very busy man and ambitious. A real power player! He has a new band project called SUMR (Facebook) running for some time and after quite a lot of work he has released the first single „Firestarter“ on 08.07.’22.

As you can already imagine, the sound is of course different from what we are used to from DEFECTO. Especially the last singles of DEFECTO were very dark. The song „Firestarter“ from SUMR is very modern oriented and I must say that I have never heard something like this before.

Happiness is the key

It starts off poppy and you could almost think you were on a beach somewhere dancing to summery beats. But little by little, the song reveals a development that suggests that the song is not what you might think at first. The song carries a wildness in it. Listen to the delicate lively guitar playing, which at first sounds a bit in the background and later discharges in a riff-driven explosion, leading to an insane guitar solo. Anyway, Frederik’s guitar skills are on a very high level and technically brilliant. I haven’t heard this kind of mixture anywhere else. This concerns not only the breathtaking solo, but the entire song.

Singer Mirza Radonjica from the band SIAMESE (Facebook) also does an outstanding job here. He shines both in the clean melodic phases, as well as in the martial outbursts, which even reach metal level in their climax. He has an insanely good feeling for the song and interprets it perfectly. You can also convince yourself of his skills and his awesome voice with the band SIAMESE. You must have heard it! But here it’s about the ingenious song „Firestarter“ by SUMR. For me a perfect summer hit! Have fun with it!

Interview with Frederik Møller

The origin of SUMR

MH: Hello Frederik! I know that you have put a lot of time, work and sweat into your personal project. How did your SUMR project come about?

Frederik: „Firestarter“ was the very first song I wrote or even thought up for SUMR. That was back in 2019, before I even thought of making it a project. At that time I had just written a lot of songs for DEFECTO, and one of them was the song ‚Washed Away‚, which had a very summer EDM (Electric Dance Music) feeling.

The lighter side

MH: In fact, this song on the album „Duality“ surprised me very much, because it came along with an unusually poppy cheerful manner. I would not have expected that from DEFECTO. So you seem to have several facets?

Frederik: I think I felt at that time that I was never just the dark hard Metal guy. So in that sense I needed some kind of counterpart to the hard and dark side. And i realized that i just really loved the vibes i was getting from that song, so i wanted to lean into that. But I had kind of felt that it wouldn’t be a good idea to put it into DEFECTO – the expression was just too different

MH: So you took a liking to it. So it probably didn’t just stay with the song „Firestarter“?

Frederik: No, I started writing more songs in that direction – summery, melancholic, with less distortion on the guitars and more focus on clean/atmospheric tones and a happier feel.

Anyway, I had the song „Firestarter“ up to 2022 as a rough demo, and then I asked Mirza to help me with the melodies – and he agreed. The lyrics themselves were written pretty quickly the day we got together. It’s a song that’s basically just about doubting yourself and thinking about everything.

Too many thoughts

MH: Does the content speak from yourself?

Frederik: Yes, that is very relatable to me to me. I’ve always been quite insecure about a lot of things, and that’s why I always think too much, analyze everything and worry. And that’s what the song is about.

MH: Do we need to worry about your role in DEFECTO now?

Frederik: Absolutely not! If anything, it helps me to dedicate my dark side DEFECTO more efficiently.

An Einfallsreichtum

und Vielseitigkeit mangelt es DEFECTO (Facebook / Homepage) fürwahr nicht. Das letzte Album „Duality“ aus dem Jahr 2020 ist dafür ein perfektes Beispiel (Review). Mit den letzten vier Singles hat man grundsätzlich mehr die dunklen Pfade eingeschlagen. Die Gründe dafür könnt Ihr auch gerne in dem Interview nachlesen, welches ich im Januar diesen Jahres mit DEFECTO geführt habe (Link).

Harte Zeiten erfordern harte Songs! Dies gilt zumindest für die letzten Veröffentlichungen von DEFECTO, die da wären: „Aftermath“, „The Shape Of Things To Come“, „A Million Suns“ und „Ball Of Hatred“! Allesamt sind es verdammt geile Songs, die es in sich haben und eindrucksvoll zeigen, was die Band für eine Bandbreite aufweist. Das Songwriting ist immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut und wandelt auf progressiven Pfaden. Und nun gibt es die

neue Single „Worlds Collide“!

Wiederum zaubern DEFECTO einen verdammt geilen Song hervor, der ebenfalls zu überraschen weiß. Er überrascht aber nicht dahingehend, dass die Band nach langer Zeit mal wieder einen Gute-Laune-Song krachen lässt. Nein, ganz und gar nicht! Der Stil bleibt düster.

Die erste Besonderheit liegt darin, dass sich die Band gesangliche Unterstützung von Kim Sternkopf der Band MØL geholt hat. Dieser legt hier eine tolle Performance an den Tag und stellt seine Qualitäten als hervorragender Sänger unter Beweis.

Der Song ist von der harten Sorte und er ist mit einigen Blastbeat-Attacken gepfeffert. Die Strophen kommen ruhiger daher und leben von Kims ausdrucksstarken Gesang, der emotional höchst beeindruckend dargeboten wird. Neben dem Wechsel mit den heftigen brutalen Passagen ist der Aufbau des Songs recht progressiv geraten und stellt hohe Ansprüche an die Bandmitglieder. Aber DEFECTO liefert wie immer grandios ab und somit kommen wir zu einer weiteren Besonderheit in diesem Song. Endlich hat sich mal wieder eine Metalband getraut ein Saxophonsolo in einen so harten Song einzubauen. Dieses epische Saxophonsolo ist von der Idee und Ausführung genial geworden und gibt diesem sonst eher düsteren und melancholischen Song eine hoffnungsvolle Note. Mach Euch mal selbst einen Eindruck!

Ein Blick in die Tiefe

Ich war so begeistert von dem Song und wollte mehr darüber wissen. Hier bei ‚metal-heads.de‘ erfahrt ihr also brandheiß kurz nach dem Singlerelease, was es mit dem Song auf sich hat. Frederik ist Gitarrist der Band und ist mitverantwortlich für das Songwriting. Er hat sich meinen Fragen angenommen und plaudert aus dem Nähkästchen.

MH: „Worlds Collide“ ist verdammt gut geworden. Und die Idee mit dem Saxophonsolo ist wirklich genial. Wie seid Ihr darauf gekommen?

Frederik: Lustige Geschichte! Das Saxophon-Solo wurde am letzten Tag vor der Fertigstellung des Liedes hinzugefügt – ich konnte kein anständiges Gitarrensolo finden, um der Sache gerecht zu werden. Um mich aus der Affäre zu ziehen, habe ich einen Typen gefunden, der stattdessen Saxophon spielen konnte. Am Ende hat alles geklappt!

MH: Ist das Dein Ernst? Ich glaube, du veräppelst mich… Du hattest keine Idee für ein Gitarrensolo?

Frederik: Manchmal ist es schwierig, den richtigen Ausdruck für einen Song zu finden, und die Ideen kommen nicht so heraus, wie man sie haben will. Wir hatten ein Backup-Gitarrensolo für den Fall, dass das Saxophon nicht funktioniert, aber zum Glück hat es am Ende genau das gemacht, was wir uns erhofft hatten, also haben wir es behalten!

Hart & anspruchsvoll

MH: Wann ist der Song entstanden und wie war der Enstehungsprozess im allgemeinen?

Frederic: Der Song war eigentlich eines der ersten Demos, die letztes Jahr geschrieben wurden, und von Anfang an gab es die Idee, einen Gastsänger im Black-Metal-Stil zu engagieren – die Blastbeat-Passagen des Songs wurden definitiv von unseren dänischen Kollegen von MØL inspiriert, also war es naheliegend, Kim zu fragen, und glücklicherweise stimmte er zu!

Es war auch einer der härteren Songs, die wir geschrieben haben – der gesamte Mittelteil des Songs besteht aus einem Hammer-On/Pull-Off-basierten Gitarrenriff in Kombination mit einer hybriden Plektrumtechnik, die zu entwickeln eine Weile dauerte. Es ist sehr schwierig, diesen Abschnitt durchgehend zu spielen, ohne dass einem die Ausdauer ausgeht, also werden wir sehen, wie es läuft, wenn wir ihn live spielen!

Wir hatten zwar schon ein paar Songs mit Blastbeats (vor allem „We’re All the Enemy“ von Nemesis), aber noch nie einen, bei dem sie das Hauptmerkmal des Songs waren. Ich wollte einen Song, der speziell Blastbeats im Refrain enthält, denn warum nicht? Es war auch eine Möglichkeit, die Fähigkeiten unseres Schlagzeugers Mikkels zu nutzen – er hat Erfahrung mit extremem Metal-Drumming von seinen früheren Bands und Prevail, es hat also Spaß gemacht, diese Elemente auch in DEFECTO einzubringen.

Ein persönlicher Song

MH: Worum geht es bei diesem Song?

Frederik: Abgesehen von dem Saxophon-Solo waren die Texte der letzte Teil, der fertiggestellt wurde. Sie sind ziemlich persönlich – sie reflektieren über den Tod und den Übergang zwischen den Zuständen des Seins. Er wurde durch einen kürzlichen Verlust in meiner Familie inspiriert, der sich Anfang des Jahres ereignete. In gewisser Weise war das Schreiben dieser Texte für mich ziemlich therapeutisch. Außerdem bin ich froh, dass der Song mich an diese Person erinnern und mir ein Gefühl der Erleichterung vermitteln kann.

MH: Ja, wie ich schon eingangs sagte. Ein sehr besonderer Song und mit diesem Hintergrundwissen wird ihm noch eine größere Bedeutung und Ausstrahlung zuteil. Vielen Dank für diese tiefen und persönlichen Einblicke!

and versatility is not missed with DEFECTO (Facebook / Homepage) . The last album „Duality“ from 2020 is a perfect example (review). With the last four singles they have basically taken more the darker paths. You can read the reasons for this in the interview I did with DEFECTO in January this year (link).

Hard times require hard songs! This is at least true for the last releases of DEFECTO, which are: „Aftermath“, „The Shape Of Things To Come“, „A Million Suns“ and „Ball Of Hatred“! All of them are damn awesome songs that have it all and impressively show what kind of range the band has. The songwriting is always good for a surprise. And now the

new single „Worlds Collide“!

Again, DEFECTO conjure up a damn cool song that also knows how to surprise. But it does not surprise in the sense that the band after a long time again lets crack a good mood song. No, not at all! The style remains gloomy.

The first special feature is that the band got the guest singer Kim Sternkopf of the band MØL. He puts on a great performance here and proves his qualities as an excellent singer.

The song is of the hard style and it is peppered with some blastbeat attacks. The verses are calmer and live on Kim’s expressive vocals, which are presented emotionally impressive. In addition to the alternation with the violent brutal passages, the structure of the song is quite progressive and the techniques requires high demands on the band members.

But DEFECTO delivers as always terrific and so we come to another special feature in this song. Finally a metal band has dared to include a saxophone solo in such a heavy song. This epic saxophone solo has become ingenious from the idea and execution and gives this otherwise rather gloomy and melancholic song a hopeful note. Check it out for yourself!

A look into the depths

I was so excited about the song and wanted to know more about it. Here at ‚metal-heads.de‘ you can find out shortly after the single release what the song is all about. Frederik plays guitar and is jointly responsible for the songwriting. He took my questions and chats out of the secrets.

MH: „Worlds Collide“ has become damn good. And the idea with the saxophone solo is really ingenious. How did you come up with that?

Frederik: Fun story! The saxophone solo was added the very last day before we had to finish the song. I couldn’t come up with a decent solo to save my life, so i found a guy who could play the saxophone instead. But it all worked out in the end!

MH: Are you serious? I think you’re kidding me… You didn’t have an idea for a guitar solo?

Frederik: Sometimes it’s difficult finding the right expression for the song, and the ideas don’t come out how you want them. We had a backup guitarsolo ready in case the sax didn’t work out, but luckily it ended up doing exactly what we hoped, so we kept it!

Hard & sophisticated

MH: When was the song created and how was the creation process in general?

Frederic: The song was actually one of the first demos to be written last year, and from the beginning there was an idea of getting a black metal style guest vocalist on it – the blastbeat sections of the song definitely took som inspiration from our fellow Danes in MØL, so it was natural to ask Kim, and luckily he agreed!

It was also one of the harder songs to write – the entire middle section of the song consists of a hammer-on/pull-off based guitar riff combined with a hybrid pick technique that took a while to develop. It is intensely difficult to play continuously without running out of stamina for the duration of that section. So we’ll see how it goes when we play it live!

While we have had a few songs with blast beats before (most notably „We’re All the Enemy“ from Nemesis) we’ve never had one where it was the main feature of the song. Writing it like that was very much the entire purpose though – I wanted a song that specifically had blastbeats in the chorus, because why not? It was a way to also take advantage of our drummer Mikkels capabilities – he has experience with extreme metal drumming from his previous and Prevail, so fun to bring those elements into DEFECTO as well.

A personal song of loss

MH: What is this song about?

Apart form the sax solo, the lyrics were the last part that was finished. They are quite personal really – reflecting on death and the transition between states of being. It was inspired by a recent loss in my family that occurred in the beginning of the year. In some sense writing those lyrics was quite therapeutical for me. Plus I am happy that the song can remind me of that person, and that it can provide a sense of relief.

MH: Yes, as I said at the beginning. A very special song and with this background knowledge it gets even more meaning and charisma. Thank you for these deep and personal insights into this song!

Single-History

Finally I would like to present you the collection of all new singles of DEFECTO of the last months. They are listed in the order of their release. Have fun with it!

will await us from Denmark on 2020-10-23. DEFECTO (Facebook) will be delivering hot music with their new longplayer „Duality. In Denmark they have been a very popular band for a long time, but they have also attracted a lot of attention internationally. There’s no other way to explain the more than 5 million streams on the portals and 50,000 monthly listeners. DEFECTO have received good reviews all over the world. Also here at ‚metal-heads.de‘ they have been a hot potato for quite some time. Let’s see if the new album is also worth hearing.

In 2017, they were – listen and be amazed – on tour in Denmark as support for METALLICA at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen. There is even a great video of the live performance. Have fun with it:

Let’s face it… This was a really cool performance! The men took a hot ride there. Again a band on my list, which I would like to see live. Let us hope that this damn corona virus will finally be eliminated.

Fun and joy

you can feel the guys with every chord and every note. Not only the live video is a good example of this. Also the music videos, with which one is put in the mood for the new album, show a very good-mooded troupe, with which also the humour does not come too short. The first release is the single „Rise“. Many men will surely recognize themselves in the video. I am convinced of that! A video made by men for men (Sorry for the ladies). The quick song has an amazing spirit and already here the excellent voice of the singer Nicklas strikes me. The guy rocks the hut.

You can rock the house…

„All For You“ puts the Rockabilly card on the table and pushes forward so funny and powerful that it sweeps me along. One of the hottest rock songs I’ve heard in a while. This is pure party. Also here the video is absolutely worth seeing and will make you freak out.

The song „Untamed“ is equally a groove grenade that sweeps everyone off their seats and makes them swing! Especially the use of wind instruments is really impressive.

But there is another way….

With the two singles presented above, they have done something for the good mood scale. But the boys can do completely different things. It is quite remarkable what the boys conjure up from the surprise box. They use many different elements without losing their own characteristics. The songwriting is as varied as it is high-quality. Not only instrumentally they are very flexible, but also the singer Nicklas has an enormous range to offer. Nicklas has an awesome rock voice, suddenly he also shoots out some growls or shouts or shines with soulful clean vocals. What more do you want?

„The Uninvited“ will give you a taste of that right away. A hammer track that rocked me completely and has a much harder touch than the material shown above. But not only that… it’s a quite progressive song that doesn’t shy away from symphonic elements. I think it’s simply cool when Nicklas reveals all his vocal qualities. Especially the violent outbursts I like damn well.

And I do not only want to rave about the singer. When I listen to the guitar solos, my hair stands on end with enthusiasm. Frederik Møller elicits the hottest chords from the guitar and is not exactly squeamish about it. All the others are in no way inferior to their mates. The bass as well as the drummer give full throttle and drive the songs forward in an excellent way. Everything absolute top class!

Gentle wash cycle…

is presented by the two ballads „Paradigm Of Deceit“ and „Don’t Say Goodbye“. Beautiful songs, which mainly live from Nicklas brilliant voice. But they don’t knock me off my feet as much as other songs on the album. Speaking of the gentle wash cycle….

For me, „Washed Away“ is the song of the album with which I personally can get the least pleasure. The song develops and is not badly composed, but it is simply too pop for me. It’s a typical radio song that could go up and down there and will certainly inspire many listeners.

Result – DEFECTO – Duality

DEFECTO do almost everything right. The range is enormous! The mixture between gripping heavy metal and rousing rock garnished with symphonic elements is a source of enthusiasm. They have succeeded in creating a great work that impressively proves the potential of the men. Despite some small personal criticisms, the album is mega hot and the band will go far in the future.

The review in german language!

wird uns am 23.10.2020 aus Dänemark erwarten. Ganz heiße Ware liefern DEFECTO (Facebook) mit ihrem neuen Longplayer „Duality. In Dänemark sind sie schon länger eine sehr angesagte Band, aber auch international konnten sie schon viel Aufmerksamkeit auf sich lenken. Anders kann man sich mehr als 5 Millionen Streams auf den Portalen und 50.000 monatliche Hörer nicht erklären. DEFECTO heimsten gute Kritiken auf der ganzen Welt ein. Auch hier bei `metal-heads.de´ sind sie schon länger ein heißes Eisen. Schauen wir mal, was die Künstler aus dem heißen Eisen geschmiedet haben.

Also jetzt mal ehrlich… Das ist doch ein Auftritt nach Maß. Eine richtig geile Nummer haben die Männer abgerockt. Wieder eine Band auf meiner Liste, die ich unbedingt mal live sehen möchte. Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass diesem verfickten Coronavirus endlich mal der Gar ausgemacht wird.

Spaß und Freude

merkt man den Jungs bei jedem Akkord und bei jedem Ton an. Nicht nur das Live-Video ist dafür ein gutes Beispiel. Auch die Musikvideos, mit welchen man auf das neue Album eingestimmt wird, zeigen eine sehr gut gelaunte Truppe, bei der auch der Humor auf keinen Fall zu kurz kommt. Die erste Auskopplung heißt „Rise„. In dem Video werden sich bestimmt sehr viele Männer wiedererkennen. Davon bin ich überzeugt. Ein Video von Männern für Männer gemacht ( Sorry for the ladies! ). Der flotte Song macht einfach tierisch Laune und schon hier fällt mir die endgeile Stimme vom Sänger Nicklas Sonne auf. Der Typ rockt die Hütte.

Es darf gerockt werden…

„All For You“ packt die Rockabilly-Karte auf den Tisch und prescht dermaßen funny und powerful nach vorne, dass mir die Spucke wegbleibt. Einer der geilsten Rocksongs, die ich seit einiger Zeit gehört habe. Das ist Party pur. Auch hier ist das Video absolut sehenswert und zum Wegschreien.

Der Song „Untamed“ ist gleichermaßen eine Groove-Granate, die jeden vom Stuhl fegt und loszappeln lässt! Vor allem der Einsatz von Bläsern macht richtig was her.

Aber es geht auch anders….

Mit den beiden oben präsentierten Singles hat man was für die Gute-Laune-Skala getan. Doch die Jungs können auch ganz andere Sachen. Es ist schon bemerkenswert, was die Jungs alles aus der Überraschungskiste zaubern. Man bedient sich vielerlei Elemente ohne dabei die eigene Charakteristik zu verlieren. Das Songwriting ist so abwechslungsreich wie es hochwertig ist. Nicht nur instrumental ist man sehr flexibel, sondern auch Sänger Nicklas hat eine enorme Bandbreite zu bieten. Nicklas hat eine geile Rockröhre, haut plötzlich auch mal ein paar Growls oder Shouts rein und brilliert dazu noch mit einer gefühlvollen cleanen Voice. Was will man mehr?

„The Uninvited“ als zweiter Track gibt davon gleich eine Kostprobe. Ein Hammertrack, der mich total weggerockt hat und einen deutlich härteren Touch hat als das oben erwähnte Material. Aber nicht nur das… es ist ein recht progressiver Song, der auch vor symphonischen Elementen nicht zurückschreckt. Ich finde es schlichtweg geil, wenn Nicklas alle seine Gesangsqualitäten offenbart. Gerade die heftigen Ausbrüche gefallen mir auch verdammt gut.

Und dabei ich möchte nicht nur von dem Sänger schwärmen. Wenn ich mir die Gitarrensoli anhöre, dann stehen mir die Haare zu Berge vor Begeisterung. Frederik Møller entlockt der Gitarre die geilsten Akkorde und geht dabei nicht gerade zimperlich zur Sache. Alle anderen stehen ihren Kameraden in nichts nach. Sowohl der Bass als auch der Drummer geben Vollgas und treiben die Songs hervorragend voran. Alles absolute Oberklasse!

Schonwaschgang…

ist bei den zwei Balladen „Paradigm Of Deceit“ und „Don´t Say Goodbye“ angesagt . Schöne Songs, die vor allem von Nicklas genialer Stimme leben. Allerdings hauen sie mich nicht so dermaßen vom Hocker wie andere Songs auf dem Album. Wo wir gerade beim Schonwaschgang sind….

„Washed Away“ ist für mich der Song des Albums, mit dem ich persönlich am wenigsten anfangen kann. Der Song entwickelt sich zwar und ist wahrlich nicht schlecht komponiert, aber mir ist er schlichtweg zu poppig. Ein typischer radiotauglicher Song, der dort bestimmt rauf und runter laufen könnte und dort bestimmt zahlreiche Hörer begeistern dürfte.

Fazit zu DEFECTO – Duality

DEFECTO machen fast alles richtig. Die Bandbreite ist riesig! Die Mischung zwischen packendem Heavy-Metal und mitreißendem Rock garniert mit symphonischen Elementen sorgt für Begeisterung. Sie haben ein großartiges Werk geschaffen, dass das Potential der Männer eindrucksvoll unter Beweis stellt. Das Album ist trotz mancher kleiner persönlicher Kritikpunkte eine Meganummer und die Band wird es in Zukunft noch weit bringen!
