The sun shines through the window and its rays slowly warm my face. I look out of the window and enjoy the blue sky, where some clouds follow their weightless activity. Afterwards I watch the news. The world is at peace with itself. There is hardly any bad news left. There is peace in the world since all countries had joined together to form a strong world community. War and terror belong to an almost forgotten time.

The resources of the earth are distributed fairly, so that hunger and misery were banished. The primary goal of the world community is still to reverse the harmful effects of the longstanding exploitation of Mother Earth. Nature is to be brought back into an ecological balance. „Connecting man with nature and not the suppression and exploitation of nature by man“ has been the motto for some time now, under which leading scientists all over the world are trying to turn the earth into a flourishing green planet again.

…is only a dream

It is the year 2095 and the world is indeed on the brink of the abyss at this time. The apocalypse is imminent. That’s why leading scientists are putting all their hopes in a kind of task force called AGONY ATLAS, that will be sent back through time to the year 2020 to shake up humanity. And with what? With

Extreme-Metal

With their mini EP „Retrogression Part I: Egomania“, AGONY ATLAS have produced a remarkable debut album and have made a damn good start for their mission. A report about the EP of the talented newcomers was already available at ‚metal-heads.de'(Link). We want to know a little bit more about the band and their mission. Let’s go…

A good-mixed creative team

MH: You can tell from the songs that there are no beginners at work and you could easily think that you haven’t done anything else. But you are not all from the extreme metal scene, are you? Where are/were you already active? Why did you choose the genre Metalcore?

Markus: Thank you for the laurels! Actually we are musically quite broadly based. Liane, for example, was already on the road with INCERTAIN in the Death-Thrash area. Andreas was recently in the studio with his Jazz-Trio. For my part, I do a lot as a session musician, supporting choirs, music clubs and big bands and I’m on the advisory board of JAZZ RLP.

A couple of years ago I was a member of the Melo-Deathern AT DAGGERS DRAWN and I’m currently also on the road with HENKŌ KANŌ in the progressive area. At ROCKIT you’ll find some of my own songs and mainly soul- and blues-rock-covers and a few weeks ago I was in the studio for my indie-rock-band. I can’t tell you more about it, it’s all still under the cover. But I can tell you this much: The songs are really great!

Christoph: I play with the synth-heavy alternative rockers KARABOOZA and was previously on tour with TIMESHIFT PASSENGER in the alternative metal area and with SIXFINGER in the metalcore corner. I am also a guitar sub for the Cologne rockers StadtRand.
Besides my rock and metal projects I also do commissioned compositions here and there and have even written German Schlager. Metalcore is just fun for all of us and we like to hear the style, so it just came up that way.

Formation of the band

MH: How exactly did your team AGONY ATLAS finally come together?
What qualified you for this mission?
How long did it take from the idea to the start of the mission?
Is there a master plan for this mission?

Christoph: I had many song ideas in my head, which were just too hard for my band KARABOOZA. Felix – the drummer of KARABOOZA – established the contact to Liane and Markus. Liane had Andreas in tow a few days later and the line-up was complete. It was important to me that it not only fits musically, but also humanly. We pursue the same goals, are equally committed and share the same values in environmental protection, sustainability, etc.

Markus: Once we were all on board, it took about another year before the mission could really start. Final recordings, mixing and mastering, logo and EP design, pressing, videos, storytelling and planning the promotion – it all takes time. And then, to top it all off, Corona came in between. But I think we mastered it quite well.
Is there a master plan? Sure there is! We will take over the world domination! Well, I guess not. But we wish that we can and will make a difference with our songs, lyrics and stories. The climate and our beautiful blue planet do not protect themselves.
So we will continue to release meaningful music and hopefully change things for the better.

The world burns

MH: Our world is coming apart at the seams. It’s burning in every nook and cranny.
In your opinion, where are the biggest problems of our time that need to be solved most urgently?
Are they already the subject of your EP „“Retrogression Part I: Egomania“?

Markus: Well, that can’t be answered so sweepingly and simply. The climate is definitely at the top of the list, and so are the social problems worldwide. Those who don’t have a lot of money and have to look at every cent, buy what he or she can afford – and that’s usually not the climate-friendly option. And if you don’t know why climate protection is important, what it is and how it should work, you don’t worry about it. And anyone fleeing a war zone has completely different worries anyway. There are so many construction sites, all of which are interlinked and important for us as humans and our planet to survive with flora and fauna.

In the meantime, there is a change of thinking in many places, but in my opinion it is happening much too slowly. The window of opportunity that remains for us is closing faster and faster. In addition, the prospect of change is scary, because you don’t know what’s coming.
That is why those who deny it or refuse to believe it are becoming more and more and louder. Above all, because they are losing many of the securities they had previously enjoyed.

Hobbes (English philosopher ) has already noted in the 17th century:

Homo homini lupus – Man is wolf to man.

Daran hat sich bis heute leider nur wenig geändert. Und ja, das alles findet ihr auch in unseren Songs.

The Beast Human

MH: What exactly are the individual songs about?

Christoph: Our songs are very critical. Among other things, they deal with how people deal with their environment, social imbalance and human abysses.

Markus: „Economy Class“ refers to the current way of dealing with our world. More and more at ever lower prices, the increasing influence of corporations on society and politics and the advanced greenwashing that does us and our world a disservice. It seems as if we are doing something good for the environment, but in the end it is not enough and yet it only serves our own interests. No matter what it means for society or the social fabric.

„Egomania“ goes in a similar direction. Man likes to see himself in the center of the universe and even walks over dead bodies to satisfy his own interests, needs or simply for amusement. The way into space is only the next logical step. There are still unused resources and potential space for expansion and settlement. Not only the empty, consumed planet is left behind, but humanity also falls by the wayside. We expressed this beautifully in the video for the single. Who has not seen it yet: It is worth it in any case!

And last but not least „Hymn of Hatred“. This song is about the abysses of the human psyche. Man does the most terrible things to himself and to all other species. Whether directly, in the sense of brutality and physical violence, or in the sense of decisions within companies, that is, on the corporate level and beyond that also on the political level. There are some current examples, but also in human history some cases can be found.

Solutions?

MH: Do you see today’s solutions for combating global problems, injustices and grievances? What has to change?

Markus: There are many possible solutions. „Fridays for Future“ or the „Mein Grundeinkommen e.V.“ are only two examples. Also in the science a lot is happening, the signs of the time were already recognized and predicted several decades ago and have now occurred in many respects. For one
overview it is worthwhile to visit `MaiLab´ on YouTube, for example.
The problem is that far too much would have to change, but in the democratic process it only progresses and works step by step.

And the politicians are very careful not to scare away their group of voters. That’s why for far too long nothing or very little has changed. What should definitely change is that politicians and corporations in all areas listen more to the scientific community, trust their advice and implement it conscientiously and promptly. Studies commissioned to support the own interests of corporations and also in politics are of little help in dealing with our current problems.

In principle, this is what Greta Thunberg has been calling for from the very beginning: We should listen more to what the scientists have found out. This is done by considering the scientific discourse as a whole – and not just the voices of individuals.
Science is complex and can also be contradictory. This is simply due to the nature of science and scientific discourse. There are many opinions that compete with each other. The decisive factor is the amount of coverage.

Humour

MH: Let’s look in the opposite direction, from darkness to light. A great event is for example the release of the first three awesome songs of AGONY ATLAS. Could you all or any of you also tell us about a positive or even funny thing that you have experienced or heard about lately? What made you happy or what could be laughed about?

Christoph: Thank you! We are very happy that you like our songs so much. Even if our music is serious and dark in itself, the people behind the music are not. We are very humorous with each other and at every rehearsal and every band meeting there is a lot to laugh about!

Markus: Ohhhh yes! Humour is definitely not missing out, the sayings like to fly very low. And the usual dose of Goran Bregovic (Bosnian musician and composer->Author’s note) should not be missing either.

Plans for the future

MH: Finally, of course we want to know something about your plans: For when are more songs planned? And are you already making plans for live gigs next year so that you can send us your message personally?

Christoph: I think we already have enough ideas to fill two albums. The task now is to filter out the „best“ ideas and work them out. But we haven’t decided yet whether we want to release single singles, one or two EPs, or maybe a classic longplayer. There are strong arguments for each variant. But what we can definitely reveal already now: The new material will be much more experimental and also a bit more extreme than what we have released so far. So you can be curious!

Regardless of this, we are already preparing for the time after Corona and working on our live program. We want to offer the audience more than just „band goes on stage and plays their set“. Our background story should and will be reflected in the look and the show.

Markus: That’s why we have also increased our equipment accordingly, so that everything can run smoothly during the show, and we have been rehearsing for a while now. So we will definitely stay on it and are really looking forward to playing for you.

Krieg und Terror gehören einer fast vergessenen Zeit an. Die Ressourcen der Erde werden gerecht verteilt, so dass Hunger und Elend verbannt wurden. Das vorrangige Ziel der Weltengemeinschaft ist es immer noch, die schädlichen Auswirkungen der langjährigen Ausbeutung von Mutter Erde wieder rückgängig zu machen. Die Natur soll wieder in ein ökologisches Gleichgewicht gebracht werden. „Verbindung des Menschen mit der Natur und nicht Verdrängung und Ausbeutung der Natur durch den Menschen!“ ist seit einiger Zeit das Motto, unter dem führende Wissenschaftler in der ganzen Welt versuchen, die Erde wieder zu einem blühenden grünen Planeten werden zu lassen…..

…ist Wunschdenken

Wir schreiben das Jahr 2095 und tatsächlich befindet sich die Welt zu diesem Zeitpunkt kurz vor dem Abgrund. Die Apokalypse steht kurz bevor. Deswegen setzen führende Wissenschaftler alle Hoffnung in eine Art Task Force namens AGONY ATLAS, welche durch die Zeit zurück in das Jahr 2020 geschickt wird, um die Menschheit aufzurütteln. AGONY ATLAS haben mit ihrer Mini EP „Retrogression Part I: Egomania“ ein beachtliches Erstlingswerk ‘rausgehauen und haben so einen verdammt guten Start für ihre Mission hingelegt. Eine bunter kreativer Haufen

MH: Man merkt den Songs an, dass keine Anfänger am Werk sind und man könnte glatt meinen, dass ihr bisher nichts anderes gemacht habt. Ihr stammt aber nicht alle aus dem Extreme-Metal-Bereich, oder? Wo seid ihr bereits aktiv (gewesen)? Wieso habt ihr euch für das Genre Metalcore entschieden?

Markus: Danke dir für die Lorbeeren! Tatsächlich sind wir musikalisch ziemlich breit aufgestellt. Liane war vorher zum Beispiel mit INCERTAIN schon im Death-Thrash-Bereich unterwegs und Andreas war vor Kurzem noch mit seinem Jazz-Trio im Studio. Ich für meinen Teil mache viel als Sessionmusiker, unterstütze dabei auch Chöre, Musikvereine und BigBands und sitze im Beirat von JAZZ RLP. Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich bei den Melo-Deathern AT DAGGERS DRAWN die Kessel gerührt, bin aktuell mit HENKŌ KANŌ auch im Progressive-Bereich unterwegs. Bei ROCKIT gibt’s neben ein paar eigenen Songs hauptsächlich Soul- und Blues-Rock-Cover auf die Ohren und vor wenigen Wochen war ich noch im Studio für meine Indie-Rock-Band. Mehr kann ich dazu nicht erzählen, das steckt alles noch unter dem Deckmäntelchen. So viel sei aber schon verraten: Die Songs sind richtig genial!

Christoph: Ich spiele bei den synthielastigen Alternative Rockern KARABOOZA und war vorher unter anderem bei TIMESHIFT PASSENGER im Alternative Metal-Bereich und mit SIXFINGER in der Metalcore-Ecke unterwegs. Außerdem bin ich auch Gitarrensub bei den Kölsch-Rockern StadtRand.
Neben meinen Rock- und Metal-Projekten mach‘ ich aber auch hier und da Auftragskompositionen und habe sogar schon Schlager geschrieben. Metalcore macht uns allen einfach Spaß und wir hören den Stil auch gern, insofern hat sich das einfach so gefunden.

Entstehung der Band

MH: Wie genau kam euer Team AGONY ATLAS schließlich zustande?
Was hat euch für diese Mission qualifiziert?
Wie lange hat es von der Idee bis zum Start der Mission gedauert?
Gibt es einen Masterplan für diese Mission?

Christoph: Ich hatte viele Songideen im Kopf, die für meine Band KARABOOZA einfach zu hart waren. Felix – der Drummer von KARABOOZA – stellte den Kontakt zu Liane und Markus her. Liane hatte ein paar Tage später Andreas im Schlepptau und die Besetzung war komplett. Wichtig war mir, dass es nicht nur musikalisch passt, sondern auch menschlich. Wir verfolgen die gleichen Ziele, sind gleichermaßen engagiert und teilen die gleichen Werte bei Umweltschutz, Nachhaltigkeit et cetera.

Markus: Als wir alle soweit an Bord waren, hat es dann etwa noch ein Jahr gedauert, bis die Mission auch wirklich starten konnte. Finale Aufnahmen, Mix und Mastering, Logo- und EP-Design, Pressung, Videos, Storytelling und die Promotion planen – das alles braucht seine Zeit. Und dann kam zu allem Überfluss auch noch Corona dazwischen. Aber wir haben das ganz gut gemeistert, denke ich.
Ob’s einen Masterplan gibt? Klar doch! Wir werden die Weltherrschaft an uns reißen! Naja, wohl ehe nicht. Aber wir wünschen uns, dass wir mit unseren Songs, Texten und Geschichten etwas bewegen können und werden. Das Klima und unser schöner, blauer Planet schützen sich nicht von selbst.
Insofern werden wir weiter sinnvolle Musik veröffentlichen und damit hoffentlich etwas zum Besseren verändern.

Die Welt brennt

MH: Unsere Welt gerät aus den Fugen. Es brennt an allen Ecken und Enden.
Wo sind eurer Meinung nach aktuell die größten Probleme unserer Zeit, die am dringlichsten gelöst werden müssten?
Sind diese bereits Thema eurer EP „„Retrogression Part I: Egomania“?

Markus: Puh, das lässt sich nicht so pauschal und einfach beantworten. Da steht ganz vorne definitiv das Klima und damit verbunden auch die sozialen Probleme weltweit. Wer nicht viel Geld hat und auf jeden Cent schauen muss, kauft das, was er oder sie sich leisten kann – und das ist in der Regel nicht die klimafreundliche Variante. Wer außerdem nicht weiß, warum Klimaschutz wichtig ist, was das überhaupt ist und wie es funktionieren soll, der sorgt sich auch nicht darum. Und wer aus einem Kriegsgebiet flüchtet, hat sowieso ganz andere Sorgen. Es gibt so viele Baustellen, die alle ineinandergreifen und wichtig sind, damit wir als Menschen und unser Planet mit Flora und Fauna überleben können. Mittlerweile kommt es zwar zu einem Umdenken an vielen Stellen, aber es findet meines Erachtens viel zu langsam statt. Das Zeitfenster, das uns noch bleibt, schließt sich immer schneller. Dazu macht die Aussicht auf Veränderung Angst, weil man nicht weiß, was kommt.
Deswegen werden diejenigen, die es leugnen oder nicht wahrhaben wollen, immer mehr und immer lauter. Vor allen Dingen, weil ihnen dazu viele Sicherheiten, die sie bisher hatten, verloren gehen.

Hobbes ( englischer Mathematiker, Staatstheoretiker und Philosoph ) hat schon im 17. Jahrhundert festgestellt:

Homo homini lupus – der Mensch ist des Menschen Wolf.

Daran hat sich bis heute leider nur wenig geändert. Und ja, das alles findet ihr auch in unseren Songs.

Die Bestie Mensch

MH: Worum geht es in den einzelnen Songs von AGONY ATLAS genau?

Christoph: Unsere Songs sind sehr kritisch. Es dreht sich unter anderem um den Umgang der Menschen mit ihrer Umwelt, um soziales Ungleichgewicht und menschliche Abgründe.

Markus: „Economy Class“ bezieht sich auf den aktuellen Umgang mit unserer Welt. Immer mehr zu immer günstigeren Preisen, der steigende Einfluss der Konzerne auf Gesellschaft und Politik und das vorgeschobene Greenwashing, das uns und unserer Welt einen Bärendienst erweist. Es wirkt, als würde man etwas Gutes für die Umwelt tun, aber im Endeffekt reicht es nicht aus und dient doch nur den eigenen Interessen. Ganz egal, was es für die Gesellschaft oder die sozialen Gefüge bedeutet.

„Egomania“ geht in eine ähnliche Richtung. Der Mensch sieht sich gerne selbst im Zentrum des Universums und geht sogar über Leichen zur Befriedigung der eigenen Interessen, Bedürfnisse oder schlicht zur Belustigung. Der Weg ins All ist dabei nur der nächste logische Schritt. Dort gibt es noch unverbrauchte Ressourcen und potentiellen Platz zum Ausbreiten und Besiedeln. Dabei bleibt nicht nur der leere, verbrauchte Planet zurück, sondern die Menschlichkeit bleibt auch auf der Strecke. Das haben wir im Video zur Single schön zum Ausdruck gebracht. Wer’s noch nicht gesehen hat: Es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall!

Und last but not least „Hymn of Hatred“. In dem Song geht es um die Abgründe der menschlichen Psyche. Der Mensch tut sich selbst und allen anderen Arten die schrecklichsten Dinge an. Ob direkt, im Sinne von Brutalität und tätlicher Gewalt, oder auch im Sinne von Entscheidungen innerhalb der Betriebe, sprich auf Konzern- und darüber hinaus auch auf Politikebene. Aktuelle Beispiele gibt es einige, aber auch in der menschlichen Geschichte lassen sich einige Fälle dazu finden.

Lösungen?

MH: Seht ihr in der heutigen Zeit Lösungsansätze zur Bekämpfung globaler Probleme, Ungerechtigkeiten und Missständen? Was muss sich ändern?

Markus: Lösungsansätze gibt es viele. „Fridays for Future“ oder der „Mein Grundeinkommen e.V.“ sind nur zwei Beispiele. Auch in der Wissenschaft tut sich eine Menge, die Zeichen der Zeit wurden ja schon vor mehreren Jahrzehnten erkannt, vorhergesagt und sind nun in vielerlei Hinsicht eingetreten. Für einen
Überblick lohnt es sich zum Beispiel bei MaiLab auf YouTube vorbeizuschauen.
Das Problem ist, dass sich viel zu viel ändern müsste, es im demokratischen Prozess aber nur Schritt für Schritt vorangeht und funktioniert. Und die Politiker sind dazu sehr darauf bedacht, ihre Wählergruppe nicht zu vergraulen. Deswegen hat sich viel zu lange auch nichts bis wenig getan. Was sich auf jeden Fall ändern müsste, ist, dass die Politik und auch die Konzerne in allen Bereichen mehr auf die Wissenschaft hört, auf deren Rat vertraut und ihn auch gewissenhaft und zeitnah umsetzt. Beauftragte Studien, die die eigenen Interessen von Konzernen und auch in der Politik unterstützen sollen, sind bei der Bewältigung unserer aktuellen Probleme wenig hilfreich. Im Prinzip geht es um das, was Greta Thunberg von Beginn an schon gefordert hat: Wir sollten mehr auf das hören, was die
Wissenschaftler herausgefunden haben. Und zwar, indem der wissenschaftliche Diskurs als Ganzes betrachtet wird – und nicht nur die Stimmen einzelner.
Wissenschaft ist komplex und kann auch widersprüchlich sein. Das liegt einfach in der Art der Wissenschaft und des wissenschaftlichen Diskurses. Es gibt viele Meinungen, die miteinander wettstreiten. Das Entscheidende dabei ist die Deckungsmenge.

Humor

MH: Lenken wir unseren Blick mal in die entgegengesetzte Richtung, vom Dunkel ins Licht. Ein tolles Ereignis ist beispielsweise die Veröffentlichung der ersten drei hammermäßigen Songs von AGONY ATLAS. Könnt ihr darüber hinaus alle oder jemand von euch über eine positive oder auch lustige Sache berichten, die man selbst in letzter Zeit erlebt hat oder von der man erfahren hat? Was hat euch erfreut oder worüber konnte mal so richtig gelacht werden?

Christoph: Danke dir! Freut uns sehr, dass dir unsere Songs so gefallen. Auch wenn unsere Musik an und für sich ernst und düster ist, sind es die Menschen hinter der Musik nicht. Wir gehen sehr humorvoll miteinander um und bei jeder Probe und jedem Band-Meeting gibt’s sehr viel zu lachen!

Markus: Oooohja! Humor kommt definitiv nicht zu kurz, die Sprüche fliegen gerne sehr tief. Und die übliche Dosis Goran Bregovic (bosnischer Musiker und Komponist–>Anm.d.V.) darf auch nicht fehlen.

Zukunftspläne

MH: Zum Abschluss wollen wir natürlich noch etwas über eure Pläne wissen: Für wann sind weitere Songs geplant? Und schmiedet Ihr mit AGONY ATLAS schon Pläne für Live-Gigs im nächsten Jahr, damit ihr uns eure Message persönlich entgegenschmettern könnt?

Christoph: Ich glaube wir haben jetzt schon genug Ideen um damit gleich zwei Alben zu füllen. Die Aufgabe besteht jetzt darin, die „besten“ Ideen rauszufiltern und auszuarbeiten. Wir haben bis jetzt aber noch nicht endgültig entschieden, ob wir einzelne Singles, ein oder zwei EPs, oder vielleicht auch ganz klassisch einen Longplayer veröffentlichen wollen. Für jede Variante gibt es starke Argumente. Was wir aber definitiv jetzt schon verraten können: Das neue Material wird deutlich experimentierfreudiger und auch ein wenig extremer als das, was wir bis jetzt veröffentlicht haben. Man darf also gespannt sein! Unabhängig davon bereiten wir uns schon auf die Zeit nach Corona vor und arbeiten an unserem Live-Programm. Wir wollen dem Publikum mehr als nur „Band geht auf die Bühne und spielt ihr Set“ bieten. Unsere Backgroundstory soll und wird sich in der Optik und der Show wiederfinden.

Markus: Deswegen haben wir auch unser Equipment entsprechend aufgestockt, damit während der Show alles reibungslos laufen kann, und sind schon seit einer Weile am Proben. Wir bleiben also auf jeden Fall dran und freuen uns schon sehr drauf, für euch spielen zu können.

Am 01.10.2020 sollten sich die Metalcore-Fans der Band AGONY ATLAS zuwenden. Grund ist die kleine, aber beachtenswerte Veröffentlichung der Mini EP ( drei Songs) „Retrogression Part I: Egomania“ von AGONY ATLAS aus Koblenz. Die female fronted Band geht auf Endzeitkurs und lässt die Ohrmuscheln ordentlich beben. So sollte die Message der Band jedem in den Kopf gehämmert werden.

Mission von AGONY ATLAS

Die Idee hinter dem Bandprojekt ist folgende. In einer fiktiven Zukunft im Jahre 2095 steht die Erde kurz vor dem Untergang ( wenn das überhaupt noch so lange dauert). Eine Gruppe führender Wissenschaftler der Vereinten Nationen sieht keine andere Möglichkeit als die Entsendung einer Task Force durch die Zeitgeschichte. Diese wird AGONY ATLAS (Facebook) getauft und in das Jahr 2020 zurückgeschickt, um die Menschheit aufzurütteln. Sie soll der Menschheit drastisch vor Augen halten, was zu erwarten ist, wenn sie den bisherigen Weg weitergehen.

Brutal und kompromisslos

gehen AGONY ATLAS dabei zu Werke. Man fühlt sich direkt an Größen wie JINJER oder ARCH ENEMY erinnert. Und man muss ganz klar zugeben, dass die Power und Vehemenz auch bei AGONY ATLAS spürbar vorhanden ist. Fette Riffs, markerschütternde Drums mit krassem Bass und dazu die erbarmungslose Stimme von Frontfrau Liane Walter, die einem durch und durch geht. Nun erst mal genug der Worte…. Ziehen wir uns mal den Song „Economy Class“, der düster apokalyptisch seinen Weg bestreitet. Das Tempo ist gemäßigt, was der Kraft des Songs aber keinen Abbruch beschert.

Na das macht doch schon mal ordentlich Druck. Die Band interpretiert den Metalcore-Sound eindrucksvoll und schafft eine tolle düstere Atmosphäre, die durch stimmungsvolle Synthies zusätzlich an Ausdruck gewinnt. So nehmen die Songs mitunter sogar epische Züge an. Dafür ist auch der Song „Hymn Of Hatred“ ein Beispiel. Wirklich ein krasser Song, der auch mit thrashigen Parts zwischendurch Fahrt aufnimmt.

Die Mischung machts

Den verdammt kraftvollen gutturalen Gesang finde ich herausragend, zumal er sehr gut zu verstehen ist. Dies ist bei der Gesangsart nicht immer so der Fall. Die Songs sind kurzweilig und lassen auf jeden Fall keine Langeweile aufkommen. Es sind wahre Nackenbrecher und erfüllen damit ihre Mission vortrefflich. Dabei versprühen die Songs zwischendurch einen fetten Groove, siehe z.B. beim Song „Hymn Of Hatred“ ab 01:20 min. Man bewegt sich über Grenzen hinaus und vereint in dem djentigen Coresound auch diverse Elemente des Industrial-, Black- und Death-Metal.

Eine erstklassige Produktion

kommt noch on top obendrauf. Für den Mix und das Mastering konnte niemand Geringeres verpflichtet werden als Aljoscha Sieg. In seinen Pitchback Studios hat er schon die Songs von Bands wie ESKIMO CALLBOY, AUGUST BURNS RED, ANY GIVEN DAY und WE BUTTER THE BREAD WITH BUTTER veredelt. Und diese Namen sollten jedem ein Begriff sein. Hoffen wir, dass AGONY ATLAS den Bekanntheitsgrad dieser illustren Gesellschaft erreichen können. Das Zeug dazu hätten sie! Leider gibt es nur drei Songs, weshalb eine Punktevergabe schwierig ist, aber für das vorhandene Potential vergebe ich mal dicke 8 Punkte und hoffe auf baldigen Nachschlag.

On 2020-10-01 metalcore fans should turn to the band AGONY ATLAS. The reason is the small but remarkable release of the mini EP (three songs) „Retrogression Part I: Egomania“ by AGONY ATLAS (Facebook) from Koblenz in Germany. The female fronted band goes on an end time course and makes your ears tremble. So the message of the band should be hammered into everyone’s head.

Mission of AGONY ATLAS

The idea behind the band project is the following. In a fictitious future in the year 2095 the earth is on the verge of destruction (if it will last that long). A group of leading scientists of the United Nations sees no other option than to send a task force through contemporary history. This task force will be called AGONY ATLAS and will be sent back to 2020 to shake up humanity. It is to drastically remind mankind of what is to be expected if they continue along the path they have taken so far.

Brutal and uncompromising

AGONY ATLAS will be at work. One feels directly reminded of greats like JINJER or ARCH ENEMY. And you have to admit that the power and vehemence of AGONY ATLAS is also noticeably present. Fat riffs, bloodcurdling drums with crass bass and in addition the merciless voice of frontwoman Liane Walter, which goes right through you. Now enough of the words…. Let’s take a look at the song „Economy Class“, which has a dark apocalyptic path. The tempo is moderate, but this does not stop the power of the song.

Well, that’s a lot of pressure. The band interprets the metalcore sound impressively and succeeds in creating a great dark atmosphere, which gains additional expression through atmospheric synths. So the songs sometimes even take on epic traits. The song „Hymn Of Hatred“ is an example of this. Really a crass song, which also picks up speed with thrashy parts in between.

The mixture makes it

I find the damn powerful guttural singing outstanding, especiallyI think the singing is excellent, especially as you hear the lyrics clearly. This is not always the case with this vocal style. The songs are entertaining and in any case don’t let you get bored. They are real neck-breakers and fulfill their mission excellently. In between the songs there is a fat groove, see for example the song „Hymn Of Hatred“ from 01:20 min. AGONY ATLAS move beyond borders and combine Metalcore with various elements of Industrial-, Black- and Death-Metal .

A first class production

comes on top of it. For the mix and mastering nobody less than Alyosha Victory could be engaged. In his Pitchback Studios he has already refined the songs of bands like ESKIMO CALLBOY, AUGUST BURNS RED, ANY GIVEN DAY and WE BUTTER THE BREAD WITH BUTTER. And these names should be familiar to everyone. Let’s hope that AGONY ATLAS will be able to reach the level of fame of this illustrious company. They have what it takes! Unfortunately there are only three songs, so it’s difficult to give points, but for the existing potential I give away 8 points and hope for more soon.
