steigt aus dem Süden Deutschlands mit DARK ZODIAK (Facebook ) empor. Nun steht die Veröffentlichung des Albums „Ophiuchus“ kurz bevor (30.01.2021). Etwas Gewaltiges wird über Euch hereinbrechen. In diesem Zusammenhang darf ich auf das Interview mit der Sängerin, Urgewalt Simone Schwarz, hinweisen, welches ich schon zum Ende des letzten Jahres mit ihr führen durfte. Da ist der Name Programm, zumindest was das Musikalische angeht. Wer das Interview noch nicht gelesen hat, sollte das schleunigst nachholen, und zwar hier . (Gibt auch was zu lachen! Der Schlangenträger

als dreizehntes Tierkreiszeichen wurde der Allgemeinheit scheinbar einfach unterschlagen. Dafür wird Ihm nun die Ehre eines ganzen Albums zuteil, dem ich ausgiebig auf den Zahn gefühlt habe. Und was soll ich sagen? Die Musik kommt alles andere als zahnlos daher. Ganz im Gegenteil! Die Schlange beißt kraftvoll und giftig zu! Schon der erste Song „Do More Say Less“ klopft Euch schön die Birne weich. Stürmische Drums, die mit dem fetten Bass eine mächtige Grundlage bilden, auf der sich brutale Gitarrenriffs austoben. Nicht weniger massiv und minder eindrucksvoll bringt sich Simone Schwarz als finstere Vocalistin in den Song ein. Das macht mächtig was her.

Und wehe, wenn sie losgelassen!

Ab Minute 03:30 gibt es richtig Fratzengeballer und die Schlangenbeschwörung mutiert zu einem wilden Ritt. Besser kann man ein Album nicht eröffnen! Einfach mal schon zu Beginn alles in Grund und Boden knüppeln! Was für eine Ansage! Hoffentlich geht DARK ZODIAK da nicht die Luft aus.

Also auf zur Ballade „Heaven, Earth And Beneath“, die mit lieblichen Klängen dann doch überrascht. Ach Quatsch…totaler Bullshit! DARK ZODIAK hatten sich mit „Do More Say Less“ tatsächlich nur warm gespielt. Nachdem sie noch mal einen tiefen Zug dämonischer Frischluft eingesogen haben, geht es erbarmungslos und wie besessen weiter. „Heaven, Earth And Beneath“ prügelt Euch die Falten aus dem Sack! Die schwarzen Growls erklingen aus tiefsten Abgründen. Vielleicht lutscht Simone jeden Tag einen Kohleklumpen und spült ihn mit einem kräftigen Single-Malt-Whiskey runter. Keine Ahnung, aber sie macht ihre Sache wirklich hervorragend! Dabei hat Simone ein super Rhythmusgefühl und bedient den Song nach allen Regeln der dunklen Kunst. Der energische peitschende Chorus passt wie die Faust aufs Auge.

Mit unbändiger Energie

wirbeln DARK ZODIAK durch die Gehörgänge, wie ich es zuletzt von den chilenischen Thrashern NUCLEAR im Jahr 2020 erleben durfte. Hammerharte Kost! Simone probiert sich gerne auch mal aus und da hat sie sich gedacht, dass sie es mal mit ganz hohen Tönen probiert, den sogenannten „Pigsqueals“ (Schweinequicken). Hab ich zuvor noch nie gehört. Erleben kann man dies z.B. beim Song „Invisible Apocalypse“ oder „From Thrash Till Death“. So sehr ich den Gesang von Simone schätze, aber dieses „Schweinequicken“ kurz vor der Ultraschallgrenze ist nichts für mich. Aber das ist eine rein persönliche Geschmackssache. Daher bin ich froh, dass nicht so viel Gebrauch davon gemacht wurde.

Die eingestreuten Screams bei dem Zerstörer „Destroy Destruction“ gefallen mir da schon viel mehr und geben dem Sound eine fiese dämonische Note.

„2020 A.D.“ bietet einen finsteren Rückblick der besonderen Art auf das letzte Jahr 2020 und schreddert es förmlich in kleine Fetzen.

„Ophiuchus“

als Titeltrack beweist ebenfalls, dass DARK ZODIAK nicht nur den Dauerfeuermodus beherrschen. Gerade auch die Downtempo-Passagen machen mächtig Druck. Ganz ohne Druck allerdings erklingt überraschend ein cleanes Gitarrensolo in der Mitte des Songs, zu dem sich sich dann im Verlauf wieder verzerrte Gitarrenklänge gesellen. So baut sich das Monster wieder auf, bis es sich mit voller Wucht wieder auf seinen Beutezug begibt.

Fazit

Die Erde erzittert, wenn DARK ZODIAK den „Ophiuchus“ loslassen. Es gibt kein Entrinnen, wenn DARK ZODIAK mit ihrer unbändigen Energie alles in Schutt und Asche legen. Da gibt es nicht mehr viel zu sagen! Kauft Euch das Ding. Es lohnt sich!

Facemelting Death/Thrash Metal

rise from the south of Germany with DARK ZODIAK (Facebook ). Now the release of the album „Ophiuchus“ is imminent (30.01.2021). Something powerful will await you! In this context I may refer to the interview with the singer, elemental force Simone Schwarz, which I was allowed to conduct with her already at the end of last year. Her name says all, at least as far as the music is concerned. If you haven’t read the interview yet, you should do so as soon as possible, here . (There is also something to laugh about! Amusing anecdotes from a band’s life).

The Ophiuchus

is supposed to represent the thirteenth sign of the zodiac, which was apparently simply misappropriated. But now the music is put to the test. And what can I say? The music is anything but toothless. Quite the opposite! „Ophiuchus“ bites powerfully and venomously! Already the first song „Do More Say Less“ knocks your head off. Raging drums, which form a powerful foundation with the fat bass, on which brutal guitar riffs let off steam. No less massive Simone Schwarz brings herself into the song as a sinister vocalist. That makes a powerful impression.

Be careful when they rush forward

From minute 03:30 there is drumfire on the ears and the snake summoning mutates into a wild dance and pure frenzy. Better you can not open an album! Just beat everything in the ground at the beginning! What an announcement! Hopefully DARK ZODIAK won’t run out of steam.

So on to the ballad „Heaven, Earth And Beneath“, which surprises with sweet sounds. Oh nonsense…total bullshit! DARK ZODIAK had actually only warmed up themselves with „Do More Say Less“. After they have sucked in a deep draught of demonic fresh air once more, it goes on mercilessly and like possessed. „Heaven, Earth And Beneath“ bludgeons the wrinkles out of your balls! The growls sound from deep abysses. Maybe Simone sucks a lump of coal every day and washes it down with a single-malt-whiskey. No idea, but she does a really good job. Simone has a super sense of rhythm and serves the song according to all rules of the black art. The energetic whipping chorus fits like a glove.

With irrepressible energy

DARK ZODIAK whirl through the ear canals, as I was last able to experience from the Chilean thrashers NUCLEAR last year. Hammer hard fare! Simone also likes to try herself out and so she thought she’d give it a try with some really high tones, the so-called „Pigsqueals“. I have never heard this before. You can experience this for example in the song „Invisible Apocalypse“ or „From Thrash Till Death“. As much as I appreciate the vocals of Simone, but this ultra-high „Pigsqueals“ are not for me. But that’s purely a matter of personal taste.

The interspersed screams on the wrecking ball „Destroy Destruction“ please me much more and give the sound a nasty demonic touch.

„2020 A.D.“ offers a sinister review of the last year of a special kind and literally shreds it into small shreds.

„Ophiuchus“

as the title track also proves that DARK ZODIAK not only master the rapid fire mode. Especially the downtempo passages make powerful pressure. Quite without pressure, however, sounds the clean guitar solo in the middle of the song, which is then joined by distorted guitar sounds. Thus, the monster builds up again, until it goes in full power again on its foray.

Result

The earth trembles when DARK ZODIAK release the „Ophiuchus“. There is no escape when DARK ZODIAK lay everything in ruins with their unbridled energy. There is nothing more to say!

DARK ZODIAK (Facebook ) will release their new album „Ophiuchus“ on January 30, 2021. I I think it will definitely be a first dark highlight in 2021. The review will be here at `metal-heads.de´ at the beginning of the year, of course. DARK ZODIAK unleash the darkest spirits of metal and create a dark combination that could be casually described as blackened death-trash-metal. So the house of ZODIAK is haunted by mighty evil. However, I can promise you that it will be massive and brutal. But first I would like to know more about the band and their album. Simone as the vocal elemental force of the band has kindly answered the questions of `metal-heads.de‘ directly. So here we go!

Origin of DARK ZODIAK

MH: I always associate the name ZODIAK with this famous serial killer from the 60’s and 70’s, about whom movies have already been made. However, when I look at the slightly different spelling, the cover and the title „OPHIUCHUS“, the band name has rather a different connection. Can you tell us what the band name and the title of the new album are about?

Simone: Actually, we are not so astrologically inclined, but in the name finding „Zodiak“ sounded somehow good. The „Dark“ was supposed to make the band name a bit more genre-typical. According to your first words, I think we did a good job with that. By the way, the spelling with ‚K‘ should mark a distinction from these Zodiac murders and also other similar band names.

Ophiuchus and romantic nights

MH: How did you come up with these things?

Simone: Well, if you have the zodiac already in the name, the mysterious 13th sign of the zodiac is a real invitation to pick up the theme. I had this in mind for a long time, because the mythology behind it appealed to me right away. To be intelligent and privileged, to mean well, but to overestimate oneself immeasurably, to want to play God and thereby plunge into misfortune…this theme never goes out of fashion.

By the way, you can see Ophiuchus, the 13th sign of the zodiac, right now in the starry sky. So get out and enjoy a romantic night! As a lockdown alternative!

The rural village Eggingen

MH: You come from Eggingen, a a rural village in southern Germany. How did DARK ZODIAK actually find each other there?

Simone: As you suggest, Eggingen is not exactly the hub of the world and musicians are not really lining up there. Dieter wanted to form a new band in 2011 and therefore started an ad online. In the meantime, only he and guitarist Charly are left from this original line-up.

MH: Do you all come from the little village?

Simone: None of us, haha…but we have our rehearsal room there.

MH:What is your relationship to each other? (With Simone and Dieter this is easy)

Simone: Haha, or even more complicated!…No, without joke, that has of course advantages, you have super nice concert weekends together, you know each other very well, know the concerns of the other, often have time to work on something together…it stays in the family!
But exactly there you have to be careful that there is no mixing between family and band.

DARK ZODIAK, a motley crew

MH:Just tell us a little bit about yourselves!

Simone: We are all a motley bunch, didn’t know each other before. And we have become extremely good friends. With the new addition of Steffi we have another couple in the bunch, Charly’s wife Rosi is always with us anyway and we feel like the Zodiak family right now. We miss our rehearsals and especially our concerts and weekends together at the moment incredibly!

MH: Now you’ve grown out of your teens a bit longer and you haven’t just been making music since „yesterday“. Where have you been musically represented so far?

Simone: Dieter has been doing metal since „the day before yesterday“, always had bands (SinNombre, Source of Silence). We are both still so 80s Metal original. Steffi has enjoyed an education in classical music. Steffi and Benni have also been making music in bands for a long time (most recently Ouzo), but came more from the rock or gothic scene. And Charly was an absolute thoroughbred bluesman, then singer of a power metal band (Spellsinger) for a few years…yeah, and that gave such a gritty, happy mix over the years!

The harbingers of the storm

MH: You have released the title track „OPHIUCHUS“ and „2020 A.D.“ as the current single. We have already learned something about the title song at the beginning. What about „2020 A.D.“, which seems to be a reckoning with the expiring year 2020?

Simone: „2020“ AD is red-hot!!! It was created during the first lockdown phase in spring. The theme was already extremely imposing on a songwriter. I told Dieter my ideas that these strange happenings and rules are rolling over us like a steamroller. And Dieter has then musically implemented this steamroller. Now the thing is just again red hot and we bring therefore on 16.12.2020 still the suitable video to it out. There you can see a little bit how this extraordinary year was for Dark Zodiak as a band, but also for each of us personally…and we have involved a lot of fans, INDIVIDUALLY of course. Furthermore we have the single „Do more – say less“ at the start, the title is self-explanatory.

Developments and goals

MH: „OPHIUCHUS“ hits the ground running with its 7-minute playing time. A very dark monument, which is very varied and creates a dense atmosphere. The song is introduced by a horny fat bass, which is a formative and supporting element in the song. The quieter melancholic middle part is super integrated into the overall concept and loosens up the otherwise massive performance skillfully.-
How will the new album „OPHIUCHUS“ differ from the last album „Landscapes Of Our Soul“?

Simone: Stomping rhythms that almost force our fans to headbang, parts to sing along and the gloomy atmosphere, so things that have been very well received so far, we have retained.
As innovation I would say: We go more pedal to the metal! We have songs on it, I’m already looking forward to the boiling mosh pit!

MH: What elements were still tweaked or what was changed or added to the sound?

Simone: Since Dieter is our composer, I find the overall work very coherent and polished. The sound comes this time a bit more pure in the face. And many horny bass parts, which complement the guitars nicely, run through the entire album and I mix in my deep grunt growls a few more Pigsqueals. We hope, a „beastly“ successful mixture!

MH: What musical goals did you want to achieve with the new album?

Simone: Conjuring up the creative flashes on instruments, putting some „Brees“ under, going full throttle and topping the last album. And of course please our fans and make the listener (and spectator and fellow revelers) just have fun!

Raw power singer Simone

MH: You are on the microphone and really deliver a great show and throw vocally really what in the scale. One can literally feel the energy and power that comes with your voice, whether you’re moving in the darkest depths or sometimes breaking out into the higher sound regions.
Your range and control over your voice is phenomenal. The lyrics come across clearer than one is otherwise commonly used to with this style of singing. When DARK ZODIAK was founded, was it immediately clear that Simone would set the tone?

Simone: First of all, thank you for this heartwarming assessment!
At the beginning of the band I wasn’t there at all and didn’t know anything about my talent.
of my talent. The first singer of DARK ZODIAK was Lucie Wehrlen and she convinced the guys that the band only wanted a female growling singer. So when Lucie quit, I just gave it a try and voila….

MH: How did your style develop?

Simone: Dieter has always been the thrasher in composing. Overall, I think we’ve become more racy and gritty with each album, my voice pushing the death metal part even further. With our latest record we all feel quite comfortable.

DARK ZODIAK are going for action

MH: During my research I was able to find out that you are a mega-motivated live band and that you bring the atmosphere to the boil. The contact with the fans even goes so far that Simone goes directly into the audience to heat up the people there. Is that part of your standard program or are you just spontaneous and things happen depending on the situation and feeling?

Simone: Well, enjoyment of playing, contact with the audience and hopefully creating a good atmosphere are part of our absolute standard program! To get from the stage into the audience, I sometimes hire a nice gentleman from security, who helps me from the stage over the trench and the barrier.
In addition to that, there’s whatever comes up or comes to our mind. That feels authentic, real and really good!

MH: Is it safe to assume that a performance by you is not up to the normal standard and that there might be one or the other surprise?

Simone: Sure, you think about some things for the performance in advance. But if you don’t just want to perform well, but really want to party together, then something always comes up spontaneously and then we also like to be surprised. Last year, for example, we played at an open air, only the stage was covered. During our show a mighty thunderstorm came down (I was asked afterwards if I had ordered it or conjured it up, haha). Then we spontaneously brought all the fans who somehow fit on the stage up to us and rocked together…Those remain the most unforgettable parties!

DARK ZODIAK stories for a good laugh

MH: Tell us about the most bizarre and funny stories that have happened to you so far in the band’s history!

Simone: Well, there are anecdotes like the young girl from the front row…she had been throwing hand signals and eye bumps at me for half a concert and then finally climbed up on stage to tell me that I had my fly open…we laughed together all the way to the last row!
Or after another concert we wanted to party a bit at night in the hotel and meet in Steffi’s and Benni’s room for that. By mistake I had given Dieter a wrong room number and this poor wretch knocked on this door at 2.30am. There has opened him a very astonished old lady with flowered nightgown and sleeping cap…she almost took the homeless-appearing guy with her…delicious!

MH: What kind of feeling will it be when next year, hopefully, live performances finally start again? I could imagine that all the pent-up frustration will put a lot of pressure on the tank, which will be released with full force at the concerts.

Simone: Oh yes, the steamroller will roll and we will have the fun of the century!!! And we are looking forward to so many dear fans and friendly bands that we have not seen for so long.
As soon as we are allowed again it will be ultimate party!!!!

DARK ZODIAK entfesseln die finstersten Geister des Metal und erschaffen eine dunkle Kombination, die man mal so salopp gesagt als blackened Death-Trash-Metal bezeichnen könnte. Es spukt also mächtig böse im Hause ZODIAK. Ich kann Euch allerdings versprechen, dass es massiv und brutal zur Sache gehen wird. Vorab möchte ich allerdings mehr über die Band und ihr Album erfahren. Simone als stimmliche Urgewalt der Band hat sich netterweise direkt den Fragen von `metal-heads.de´ gestellt. Also ab geht´s.

Ursprung von DARK ZODIAK

MH: Ich verbinde mit dem Namen ZODIAK immer diesen berühmten Serienkiller aus den 60´er und 70´er Jahren, über den schon Filme gedreht worden sind. Wenn ich mir allerdings die etwas andere Schreibweise, das Cover und den Titel „OPHIUCHUS“ anschaue, dann hat der Bandname doch wohl eher eine andere Verbundenheit. Könnt Ihr uns erzählen, worum es bei dem Bandnamen und dem Titel des neuen Albums geht?

Simone: Eigentlich sind wir gar nicht so astrologisch angehaucht, aber bei der Namensfindung klang „Zodiak“ irgendwie gut. Das „Dark“ sollte den Bandnamen dann noch etwas genretypisch gestalten. Laut Deiner ersten Worte haben wir das dann wohl auch gut umgesetzt. Die Schreibweise mit `K´ soll übrigens eine Abhebung von diesen Zodiac-Morden und auch anderen ähnlichen Bandnamen markieren.

Schlangenträger und romantische Nächte

MH: Wie seid Ihr auf diese Dinge gekommen?

Simone: Na, wenn man dann den Tierkreis schon im Namen hat, ist das geheimnisvolle 13. Sternzeichen ja eine regelrechte Einladung das Thema aufzugreifen. Das hatte ich auch schon lange im Kopf, denn die Mythologie dahinter hat mich gleich angesprochen. Intelligent und privilegiert sein, es gut zu meinen, sich aber maßlos zu überschätzen, Gott spielen zu wollen und sich dadurch ins Unglück stürzen…diese Thematik kommt doch nie aus der Mode.

Man kann Ophiuchus, den Schlangenträger, das 13. Sternzeichen übrigens grade im Moment noch am Sternenhimmel sehen. Also raus und eine romantische Nacht genießen! Als Lockdown Alternative!

Die Weltstadt Eggingen

MH: Ihr kommt aus Eggingen, einer „Weltstadt“ im süddeutschen Raum. Wie haben sich DARK ZODIAK dort eigentlich gefunden?

Simone: Wie Du andeutest, ist Eggingen nicht gerade der Nabel der Welt und die Musiker stehen da nicht wirklich Schlange. Dieter wollte 2011 eine neue Band gründen und hat deshalb online eine Anzeige gestartet. Mittlerweile sind nur noch er und Gitarrist Charly von dieser Urbesetzung.

MH: Kommt Ihr alle aus dem beschaulichen Örtchen?

Simone: Keiner von uns, haha…aber wir haben da unseren Proberaum.

MH: In welcher Beziehung steht Ihr zueinander? (Bei Simone und Dieter ist das ja einfach )

Simone: Haha, oder noch komplizierter!…Nein, ohne Flachs, das hat natürlich Vorteile, man hat superschöne gemeinsame Konzert-Wochenenden, man kennt sich bestens, kennt die Anliegen des anderen, hat oft Zeit an was gemeinsam zu arbeiten…es bleibt in der Familie!
Aber genau da muss man auch aufpassen, dass es da für die Familie und auch für die Band
keine Vermischungen gibt!

DARK ZODIAK, ein bunter Haufen

MH: Erzählt doch einfach mal ein wenig über Euch!

Simone: Wir alle sind ein bunt zusammengewürfelter Haufen, haben uns vorher nicht gekannt. Und sind zu extrem guten Freunden geworden. Mit dem Neuzugang von Steffi haben wir ja nochmal ein Pärchen im Bunde, Charlys Frau Rosi ist sowieso immer mit dabei und wir fühlen uns grad wie die Zodiak-Familie. Wir vermissen unsere Proben und vor allem unsere Konzerte und gemeinsamen Wochenenden im Moment unglaublich!

MH: Jetzt seid Ihr ja schon etwas länger dem Teenageralter entwachsen und macht ja nicht erst seit „gestern“ Musik. Wo seid Ihr bisher musikalisch vertreten gewesen?

Simone: Dieter macht schon seit „vorgestern“ Metal, hatte immer Bands (SinNombre, Source of Silence). Wir beide sind noch so 80er Jahre Metal Urtierchen. Steffi hat eine Ausbildung in klassischer Musik genossen. Steffi und Benni machen auch schon lange Musik in Bands (zuletzt Ouzo), kamen aber eher aus der Rock oder Gothic Szene. Und Charly war ein absoluter Vollblut-Blueser, dann einige Jahre Sänger einer Power-Metal Band (Spellsinger)…ja, und das gab dann über die Jahre so ein düsteres, fröhliches Gemisch!

Die Vorboten des Unwetters

MH: Ihr habt als aktuelle Single den Titelsong „OPHIUCHUS“ und „2020 A.D.“ veröffentlicht. Über den Titelsong haben wir ja schon eingangs etwas erfahren. Wie sieht es mit „2020 A.D.“ aus, der wohl eine Abrechnung mit dem auslaufenden Jahr 2020 zu sein scheint?

Simone: „2020“ AD ist brandaktuell!! Entstanden ist er in der ersten Lockdown Phase im Frühjahr. Das Thema drängte sich einem Songschreiber schon extrem auf. Ich habe Dieter meine Ideen mitgeteilt, dass diese seltsamen Geschehnisse und Regeln wie eine Dampfwalze über uns wegrollen. Und er hat diese Dampfwalze dann musikalisch umgesetzt. Jetzt ist die Sache ja gerade wieder brandheiß und wir bringen deshalb am 16.12.2020 noch das passende Video dazu raus. Da kann man ein bisschen reingucken, wie dieses aussergewöhnliche Jahr für Dark Zodiak als Band, aber auch für jeden Einzelnen von uns ganz persönlich war…und wir haben ganz viele Fans mit eingebunden, EINZELN natürlich. Ausserdem haben wir noch die Single „Do more – say less“ am Start, der Titel ist
selbsterklärend.

Entwicklungen und Ziele

MH: „OPHIUCHUS“ haut mit seiner 7-minütigen Spielzeit kräftig auf den Putz. Ein sehr finsteres Monument, welches sich sehr abwechslungsreich gestaltet und eine dichte Atmosphäre entstehen lässt. Der Song wird durch einen geilen fetten Bass eingeleitet, welcher ein prägendes und tragendes Element in dem Song ist. Der ruhigere melancholische Mittelteil ist super im Gesamtkonzept eingebunden und lockert den ansonsten wuchtigen Auftritt gekonnt auf.-
Inwiefern wird sich das neue Album „OPHIUCHUS“ vom letzten Album „Landscapes Of Our Soul“ unterscheiden?

Simone: Stampfende Rhythmen, die unsere Fans fast zum Headbangen zwingen, Parts zum Mitsingen und die düstere Athmosphäre, also Dinge, die bisher sehr gut ankamen, haben wir beibehalten.
Als Neuerung würde ich sagen: Wir geben noch mehr Gas! Wir haben Songs drauf, da freu ich mich jetzt schon auf den kochenden Moshpit!

MH: An welchen Elementen wurde noch gefeilt oder was wurde an dem Sound verändert bzw. noch hinzugefügt?

Simone: Da Dieter unser Alleinkomponist ist, finde ich das Gesamtwerk in sich sehr stimmig und ausgefeilt. Der Sound kommt dieses Mal noch ein bisschen purer in die Fresse. Und viele geile Bassparts, die die Gitarren schön ergänzen, ziehen sich durch das komplette Album und ich haue in mein tiefes Gegrunze mal noch ein paar Pigsqueals rein. Wir hoffen, eine „tierisch“ gelungene Mischung!

MH: Welche musikalischen Ziele wolltet Ihr mit dem neuen Album erreichen?

Simone: Die kreativen Geistesblitze auf Instrumente zaubern, ein paar „Brees“ unterbringen, Vollgas geben und das letzte Album toppen.
Und natürlich unseren Fans eine Freude bereiten und dem Hörer (und Zuschauer und
Mitfeiernden) einfach Spaß machen!

Urgewalt Simone

MH: Du bist am Micro und lieferst wirklich ein tolle Show und schmeißt gesanglich richtig was in die Waagschale. Man spürt förmlich die Energie und Kraft, die mit Deiner Stimme einhergeht, ob Du Dich nun in den dunkelsten Tiefen bewegst oder auch mal in die höheren Klangregionen ausbrichst.
Deine Range und die Kontrolle über Ihre Stimme ist phänomenal. Die Texte kommen klarer rüber, als man es bei diesem Gesangsstil ansonsten gemeinhin gewohnt ist. War es bei Gründung von DARK ZODIAK schon direkt klar, dass Simone den Ton angeben wird?

Simone: Erst mal danke ich Dir für diese herzerwärmende Einschätzung!
Ich war am Anfang der Band noch gar nicht dabei und wusste damals auch noch nichts von
meinem Talent. Die erste Sängerin von DARK ZODIAK war Lucie Wehrlen und hat die Jungs davon überzeugt, dass die Band nur noch eine growlende Sängerin will. Als Lucie dann aufhörte, habe ich die Sache einfach mal ausprobiert und voilà…

MH: Wie hat sich Euer Stil entwickelt?

Simone: Dieter war schon immer der Thrasher beim Komponieren. Insgesamt sind wir wohl mit jedem Album rasanter und düsterer geworden, meine Stimme trieb den Death-Metal Anteil noch voran. Mit unserer neuesten Scheibe fühlen wir uns alle ganz wohl.

DARK ZODIAK macht Stimmung

MH: Ich durfte bei meiner Recherche feststellen, dass Ihr eine megamäßig motivierte Live-Band seid und Ihr auf Teufel komm raus die Stimmung zum Kochen bringt. Der Kontakt mit den Fans geht sogar so weit, dass Simone sich direkt ins Publikum begibt, um dort den Leuten einzuheizen. Gehört das zu Eurem Standardprogramm oder seid Ihr einfach spontan und Dinge passieren je nach Situation und Gefühl?

Simone: Also Spielfreude, Kontakt zum Publikum und hoffentlich für gute Stimmung sorgen gehören zu unserem absoluten Standardprogramm! Um von der Bühne ins Publikum zu gelangen, stelle ich auch schon mal einen netten Herrn der Security an, der mir von der Bühne über den Graben und die Absperrung hilft.
Dazu kommt dann noch das, was sich halt gerade so ergibt oder uns einfällt. Das fühlt sich dann authentisch, echt und richtig gut an!

MH: Kann man davon ausgehen, dass ein Auftritt von Euch nicht dem normalen Standard entspricht und es die eine oder andere Überraschung geben könnte?

Simone: Klar, einiges überlegt man sich für die Performance im voraus. Wenn man aber nicht nur gut performen will, sondern wirklich Bock auf gemeinsames Feiern hat, dann ergibt sich immer spontan was und dann lassen auch wir uns gerne überraschen. Letztes Jahr hatten wir zum Beispiel an einem Open Air gespielt, nur die Bühne war überdacht. Während unserer Show ging ein mächtiges Gewitter nieder (ich wurde danach gefragt, ob ich das bestellt oder heraufbeschworen hätte, haha). Da haben wir spontan einfach alle Fans, die irgendwie auf die Bühne gepasst haben, zu uns rauf geholt und zusammen gezockt und gerockt…Das bleiben die unvergesslichsten Partys!

Bandgeschichten zum totlachen

MH: Erzähl doch mal von den skurrilsten und aberwitzigsten Geschichten, die Euch bisher in der Bandgeschichte widerfahren sind!

Simone: Na ja, da gibt es so Anekdoten wie das junge Mädel aus der ersten Reihe…sie hatte mir schon ein halbes Konzert lang Handzeichen und Augenaufschläge zugeworfen und ist dann letztendlich zu mir auf die Bühne geklettert, um mir zu sagen, dass ich den Hosenstall offen habe…wir haben zusammen bis in die letzte Reihe gelacht!
Oder nach einem anderen Konzert wollten wir nachts noch ein bisschen im Hotel feiern und uns dazu in Steffis und Bennis Zimmer treffen. Versehentlich hatte ich Dieter eine falsche Zimmernummer angegeben und dieser arme Tropf hat nachts um 2.30h an diese Tür geklopft. Dort hat ihm eine sehr erstaunte alte Dame mit geblümtem Nachthemd und Schlafhaube geöffnet…fast hätte sie den obdachlos erscheinenden Kerl bei sich aufgenommen…köstlich!

MH: Was wird das für ein Gefühl sein, wenn es nächstes Jahr hoffentlich endlich wieder mit LiveAuftritten losgeht? Ich könnte mir vorstellen, dass man durch den ganzen aufgestauten Frust mächtig Druck auf dem Kessel hat, der sich mit voller Wucht bei den Konzerten wieder entladen wird.

Simone: Oh ja, die Dampfwalze wird rollen und wir werden den Spaß des Jahrhunderts haben!! Und wir freuen uns abartig auf so viele liebgewonnen Fans und befreundete Bands, die wir so lange nicht mehr gesehen haben.
Sobald wir wieder dürfen wird ultimativ gefeiert!!!
