MH: Hallo Jakub! Ich weiß fast nichts über STING RAY (Facebook). Eine Sache weiß ich aber. Ihr seid eine coole Rockband aus Polen und Ihr habt ne geile Single rausgebracht. Es ist also dringend an der Zeit, Licht ins Dunkel zu bringen. Seit wann gibt es die Band und aus welchen Mitgliedern besteht sie? Kannst du uns etwas über die Bandkollegen erzählen?

Jakub: Die Band gibt es seit 2015, aber damals hieß sie noch TEH, und kurz nach Besetzungswechseln haben wir uns in Sting Ray umbenannt.
Das aktuelle Line-Up arbeitet seit Januar 2022, also ist es in gewisser Weise eine frische Band.  Und es ist die beste Besetzung seit den Anfängen. Wir haben im letzten Jahr mehr gemacht und erreicht als in den letzten 5 Jahren.

MH: Wie habt ihr euch eigentlich kennengelernt? Wie lange spielen Sie schon zusammen?

Jakub: Nun, seit der Auflösung der Band 6 Monate vor Pandemie habe ich nicht einmal daran gedacht, die Band zu reaktivieren. Ich habe ein Soloprojekt namens Jake Starsky gestartet, und das war die Initialzündung, um den Gitarristen Andrzej zu treffen. Er lieh mir einen Verstärker für Studioaufnahmen, und dann fingen wir an, über Ausrüstung und Musik zu reden, und er sagte schließlich, dass ich wieder mit Sting Ray anfangen sollte.

Also forderte ich ihn auf, die Band mit ihm neu zu gründen. Dann fand ich den Schlagzeuger in einer lokalen Musiker-Facebook-Gruppe. Ich habe auf fast jedem Profil nachgesehen, wer wer ist, ich habe seine Telefonnummer bekommen und wir haben uns verabredet und uns schließlich getroffen. Bevor wir den Bassisten gefunden haben, haben wir den Proberaum gefunden. Und den Bassisten zu finden war die schwierigste Aufgabe.

Aber schließlich, nach 5 Monaten, schrieb mir Izzy eine SMS auf Facebook (ich machte eine Ankündigung), wir machten 2 Proben mit voller Besetzung und wir sagten „Okay Izzy, wir gehen ins Studio“. Dann haben wir Cold Sunset aufgenommen.

Die Metalszene in Polen

MH: Wie ist die Metal-Szene in Polen? Gibt es viele Konzerte oder Festivals?

Jakub: Das hängt davon ab, über welche Art von Metalszene wir reden. Wir haben jede Menge Black/Death/Thrash/Speed Metal-Bands, aber wenn es um Hard Rock, Glam/Hair Metal oder klassische Heavy Metal-Bands geht, die einfach gute Songs mit Melodie haben, haben wir ein Problem.

Aber ich habe in den letzten ein oder zwei Jahren eine Art Wiederbelebung auf dieser Seite bemerkt, was uns wirklich glücklich macht, denn wir haben einige Kontakte geknüpft und wir planen kommende Konzerte. Wir haben ein paar große Festivals wie das Pol’and’Rock Festival oder das Mystic Festival, und kleinere. Wir werden auf dem Cry of Pain Fest in Krakau (Juni) spielen und sind zu einem ähnlichen Festival in Warschau (Oktober) eingeladen. Also ja, die Szene ist im Aufwind.

MH: Welche Bedeutung hat die Musik für Dein Leben? Ist sie eher ein Hobby oder eine Lebenseinstellung?

Jakub: Weißt du, das ist eine alltägliche Sache. Wir haben alle unsere Jobs und Dinge zu tun, aber um ehrlich zu sein, wünschen wir uns wirklich, dass unsere Musik unser Lebensinhalt wird, und wenn es nur für eine gewisse Zeit ist.

Die Erfolgssingle „Cold Sunset“

MH: Eure Single „Cold Sunset“ hat bisher über 12500 Aufrufe. Ist das Euer bisher größter Erfolg?

Jakub: Natürlich ist „Cold Sunset“ ein gutes Zeugnis für unsere einjährige Arbeit. Wir haben in dieser Zeit viel für unsere Band getan und es motiviert uns, mehr zu tun, weil es den Leuten gefallen hat.

Neue Songs oder gar ein Album in Aussicht?

MH: Wie sieht es mit einer weiteren Single oder gar einem Album in diesem Jahr aus?

Jakub: Wir werden die Single so bald wie möglich veröffentlichen.  Wir wollen gleich nach unserer Studio-Session mit dem Dreh eines weiteren Videos beginnen. Also hoffen wir, dass die Single im Mai oder Juni rauskommt. Das ganze Album sollte im Juni aufgenommen und abgemischt werden, also wenn alles gut läuft, werden wir es im Sommer veröffentlichen.

MH: Wie viele Songs habt ihr für das Album geschrieben?

Jakub: Im Moment haben wir 20-22 Songs fertig, aber wir haben 11 oder 12 ausgewählt. Das gesamte Album wird etwa 40 Minuten lang sein. Der Rest der Songs ist für das zweite Album bestimmt, das ein bisschen härter sein wird als das, an dem wir gerade arbeiten.

Tourpläne?

MH: Gibt es außer die o.g. Auftritte schon konkrete Pläne für weitere Gigs in diesem Jahr?

Jakub: Überhaupt nicht, wir haben ein paar Termine gebucht, aber ich denke, wir werden noch ein bisschen darüber nachdenken, wenn wir die Aufnahmen abgeschlossen haben. Außerdem werden wir unser Album promoten, also hoffe ich, dass 2024 ein wirklich intensives Jahr wird.

MH: Mit welcher berühmten Band würdest du gerne mal auf Tournee gehen?

Jakub: Es gibt eine Menge Bands, mit denen wir gerne spielen würden. Wir würden Iron Maiden, Judas Priest oder Scorpions (von den größten Bands) wählen, aber auch Mötley Crüe, Dokken, Skid Row, WASP, Black Label Society, Airbourne, Skull Fist, LA Guns, Saxon, Whitesnake. Alle klassischen Bands, um ehrlich zu sein!

MH: Hello Jakub! I know almost nothing about STING RAY (Facebook), except that you come from Poland! So it is urgent time to bring light into the darkness. Since when does the band exist and which members does it consist of? Can you tell us something about the band mates?

Jakub: The band has been around since 2015, but back then it was called TEH, and shortly after line-up changes we changed our name to Sting Ray.The current line-up has been working since January 2022, so in a way it’s a fresh band. And it’s the best lineup since the beginning. We’ve done and accomplished more in the last year than we have in the last 5 years.

MH: How did you guys actually meet? How long have you been playing together?

Jakub: Well, since the band broke up 6 months before Pandemic, I didn’t even think about reactivating the band. I started a solo project called Jake Starsky, and that was the spark to meet guitarist Andrzej. He lent me an amp for studio recording, and then we started talking about gear and music, and he finally said that I should start playing with Sting Ray again.

So I prompted him to re-start the band with him. Then I found the drummer on local musician  facebook group. I was looking on almost every profile, who is who, I got his phone number and we made an appointment and we finally met. Before we found the bassist  we found the rehearsal room. And finding the bassist was the hardest task.

But finally, after 5 months Izzy texted me on facebook (i made an announcement), we did 2 rehearsals with full lineup and we said „okay Izzy, we’re going to studio“. Then we recorded Cold Sunset.

The metal scene in Poland

MH: How is the Metal scene in Poland? Are there many concerts or festivals?

Jakub: It depends of what kind of metal scene we’re talking about. We have a lots and lots of black/death/thrash/speed metal bands, but when it goes to hard rock, glam/hair metal or classic heavy metal bands with just good songs, with melody there we have a problem.

But I noticed in last year or two, some kind of revival on that side which makes us really happy, because we made some contacts and we’re planning upcoming concerts. We have few major festivals like Pol’and’Rock Festival or Mystic Festival, and smaller ones. We gonna play on Cry of Pain Fest in Cracow (June) and we’re invited to similar  festival in Warsaw (October), so yes, the scene is rising up.

MH: What does music mean to you in your life? What role does it play in your everyday life?  Is it more a hobby or a way of life?

Jakub: You know, it’s everyday thing. We all have our jobs and things to do, but to be honest we really wish our music will be our way of life, even for some time.

The successful single „Cold Sunset

MH: Your single „Cold Sunset“ has 12.500 views so far. Is that your biggest success so far?

Jakub: Of course, Cold Sunset is really good marker of our 1-year work. We did a lot of things for our band through this time and it motivates us to do more, because people liked it.

New songs or even an album on the horizon?

MH: What about another single or even an album this year?

Jakub: We going to release single as soon as possible.  We want to start making another video right after our studio session. So we hope the single will be out on May or June. Whole album should be recorded and mixed in June so if everything will go well we’re going to release it on this summer.

MH: How many songs did you write for the album?

Jakub: At this moment we have finished 20-22 songs, but we choosed 11 or 12, and it all is gonna be around 40 minutes long. The rest of the songs are going for the second album, which is gonna be a bit heaver than the one we’re wroking on right now.

Tour plans?

MH: Are there any concrete plans for a tour this year?

Jakub: Not at all, we got booked few dates, but I think we will think about it a little bit more, when we’ll finish recordings. Also we going to promote our album so I hope 2024 will be a really intensive year.

MH: With which famous band would you like to do a tour?

Jakub: There are a lot of bands we wish to play with. We would pick Iron Maiden, Judas Priest or Scorpions (from the biggest bands), and also Mötley Crüe, Dokken, Skid Row, WASP,  Black Label Society, Airbourne, Skull Fist, LA Guns, Saxon, Whitesnake. Any classic  bands to be honest.

METALLICA

Der nächste Appetithappen für das neue Album „72 Seasons“ (VÖ 14.04.’23) von METALLICA (Facebook / Homepage) ist seit gestern frisch auf dem Tisch. Bericht zur ersten Single und erste Infos über das neue Album hier und über die anstehende Tour hier.

Die Single „Screaming Suicide“ beschäftigt sich mit dem Tabuthema Selbstmord. Viele Menschen leiden unter Depressionen und die meisten verstecken es in ihrem Inneren, so dass die Mitmenschen nichts davon mitbekommen. Man sollte jedoch mit solchen Gedanken nicht alleine bleiben müssen, sondern darüber sprechen dürfen und können. Es ist ein Kampf, denn man nicht alleine gewinnen kann.

„Screaming Suicide“ ist zwar flott, aber zurückhaltender als “Lux Æterna”. Die melodisch rockige Attitüde kommt hier meiner Meinung nach noch mehr zum Ausdruck, fetzt aber ganz ordentlich und legt im letzten Drittel noch mal zu. So ist „Screaming Suicide“ ein wenig komplexer ausgefallen. Ist ein cooler Song, der jedoch für mich immer noch keine herausragenden Akzente setzt, die mich vor Begeisterung aufspringen lassen und mich völlig umhauen. Macht Euch selbst ein Bild von der Single „Screaming Suicide“…

STING RAY

Der Begriff ‚Stingray‘ (Stachelrochen) wird im allgemeinen mit den schnittigen Corvette Sportwagen von Chevrolet in Verbindung gebracht. STING RAY (Facebook) stehen für schnittigen Rock ’n‘ Roll. Viel kann ich Euch leider über die polnische Band nicht sagen, außer das sie die verdammt geile Single „Sunset“ am Start haben. Dabei soll es nicht bleiben, denn ein Album soll folgen. Und darauf bin ich nach dieser genialen Single ziemlich heiß. „Cold Sunset“ ist ein rassiger melodischer Rocksong, der durch und durch geile Vibes versprüht. Einfach hören und genießen!

ALL MY SHADOWS

All MY SHADOWS (Facebook / Homepage) sind ein Quintett, das 2020 von den VANDEN PLAS-Mitgliedern Stephan Lill (Gitarrist) und Andy Kuntz (Gesang) gegründet wurde. Ihr Debütalbum „Eerie Monsters“ wird am 2023 veröffentlicht.

Lill sagt zu diesem Projekt folgendes:

Die Idee, einige Rocksongs aufzunehmen und zu veröffentlichen, beschäftigt mich schon eine Weile. Während ich komponierte, kamen mir immer wieder Songs in den Sinn, die den Geist der 80er Jahre verkörpern. Als großer Fan von Bands aus dieser Zeit, wie WHITESNAKE, OZZY OSBOURNE, DOKKEN und so weiter, habe ich immer noch eine große Liebe für die Musik aus dieser Zeit. Das Ziel war es, diese klassische Musik in das Hier und Jetzt zu transportieren. Hardrock mit einer kraftvollen Produktion, gespickt mit modernen musikalischen Elementen.

Und wenn man sich den Song „The Phantom Of The Dawn“ so anhört, dann muss man zugeben, dass ALLY MY SHADOWS ihre Mission vortrefflich erfüllt hat. Ich bin mir sicher, wenn das Album alles solche Krachersongs enthält, dass sich die Fangemeinde ganz schnell ganz stark vergrößern wird. Ich bin bereits ein Fan.

BLACK COAST

aus England starten mit ihrer ersten Single „Mercy“ der am 28.04.’23 erscheinenden selbstbetitelten EP. BLACK COAST (Facebook) starten sehr ruhig melancholisch, doch plötzlich gibt es einen Knall und es geht richtig zur Sache. So entwickelt sich der Song zu einem wahren Kraftpaket, der gekonnt zwischen verschiedenen Stimmungen wechselt. Ich finde den Song echt stark!

METALLICA

The next appetizer for the new album „72 Seasons“ (Release on 14 April) by METALLICA (Facebook / Homepage) is fresh in the world since yesterday.

The single „Screaming Suicide“ deals with the taboo subject of suicide. Many people suffer from depression and most of them hide it inside, so that their family and friends don’t notice. However, one should not have to remain alone with such thoughts, but be allowed and able to talk about it. It is a battle that cannot be won alone.

„Screaming Suicide“ is brisk, but more restrained than „Lux Æterna“. The melodic Rock attitude is expressed here in my opinion even more, but shreds quite properly and increases again in the last part. Thus, „Screaming Suicide“ has turned out a little more complex. It’s a cool song, but for me it still does not set any outstanding accents that make me jump up screaming and completely blow me away. Make up your own mind of the single „Screaming Suicide“…

STING RAY

‚Stingray‘ is generally associated with Chevrolet’s Corvette. STING RAY (Facebook) stands for sleek rock ’n‘ roll. Unfortunately I can’t tell you much about the Polish band, except that they have the damn cool single „Sunset“ at the start. But that’s not all, because an album is to follow. And after this ingenious single I’m pretty hot for it. „Cold Sunset“ is a racy melodic rock song that spreads cool vibes through and through. Just listen and enjoy!

ALL MY SHADOWS

All MY SHADOWS (Facebook / Homepage) are a quintet formed in 2020 by Vanden Plas members Stephan Lill (guitarist) and Andy Kuntz (vocals). Their debut album „Eerie Monsters“ will be released on 2023.

The idea of recording and releasing some Rock songs is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. While composing, I kept coming up with songs that have the spirit of the ’80s. As a big fan of bands from that era, like WHITESNAKE, OZZY OSBOURNE, DOKKEN, and the like, I still have a huge love for music from that time. The goal was to transport that classic music into the here and now. Hardrock with a powerful production, peppered with modern musical elements.
