Genre: Death Metal

Release: 15.03.2024

Label: Season Of Mist

Genre: Death Metal

Release: 15.03.2024

Label: Season Of Mist

VLTIMAS (Facebook) released their second album „Epic“ last Friday after their debut „Something Wickes Marches In“ from 2019. The multinational band consists of experienced musicians that everyone has probably heard somewhere if they like heavier dark metal. They are singer David Vincent (ex-‚Morbid Angel‘), guitarists Rune „Blasphemer“ Eriksen (ex-Mayhem) and João Duarte (Corpus Christii), bassist Ype TVS (ex-Dodecahedron) and last but not least drummer Flo Mounier (Cryptopsy). The debut from 2019 was already a brutal slab of slaughter, served raw and bloody. And so it was exciting to see what EPIC would have to offer.

„EPIC“

VLTIMAS actually bring dark epic moments to life, as you can quickly hear for yourself on the title track „Epic“, which follows on directly from the intro. A powerful, dark track with the really good vocalist David, who immediately impresses me. A song with a slow tempo, lots of atmosphere, often with a doomy vein. In general, the song is powerfully staged and even briefly ignites the tempo rocket for a burning solo in the fourth minute. „Epic“ is a grandiose song that fills me with excitement for what is to come.

More dark harmonies

The basic mood remains the same, but something has changed in the sound of VLTIMAS. It has remained wonderfully dark and powerful, but the vocals somehow sound more variable. The same applies to the instrumental framework. Overall, „Epic“ has become more dynamic and harmonious than its predecessor. But let there be no misunderstandings. It remains hard and dark! It’s just a question of personal taste as to what you prefer as a listener. I’m very happy with both albums.

The tempo of the songs fluctuates between a massive, sometimes very groovy sound and furious outbursts of rage. „Mephisto Manifesto“ continues the idea of „Epic“ and comes across as almost light and swinging at the beginning. The momentum is maintained, with the riffs sawing nastily through the ear canals. A great song, where I once again really like singer David. „Exercitus Irae“ and „Misere“, on the other hand, are of a different caliber. They are filled with furious energy, fully programmed for attack and vehemently thrash the listener.

A dark storm

Both worlds are also united in one song. „Invictus“ is impressively and massively darkly blasted, with the light instrumental part beforehand creating a nice contrast that emphasizes the powerful chorus even more. But the song also has phases where it blows up into a violent storm and tears everything down. Everything seems very lively. At the beginning, „Scorcher“ reminds me of the mood from the intro. Then, however, the song also gets a massive adrenaline injection and a hefty thrashing orgy follows.

Conclusion

VLTIMAS have created a damn strong album with „Epic“. It contains everything that was hoped and wished for after the great debut. Aggressive atmospheric metal, with a dark, doomy and epic sheen. Although the new work is more harmonious, it opens up new sonic facets that suit the sound very well without changing the basic VLTIMAS character.

I use a lot of double meanings on purpose because I want to inspire the listener to think. I’m not a short attention span guy, and I don’t appreciate it.

1349 mit neuem Album: „The Infernal Pathway“

VLTIMAS – Something Wicked

Also noch etwas Geduld bitte.
