MALEVOLENCE aus Sheffield haben sich mittlerweile zu einem angesagten und beliebten Act entwickelt. Ihr kompromissloser Sound und die energetischen Live-Shows sorgen für Begeisterung bei den Fans. Das letzte Album „Malicious Intent“ (2022) war ein echter Knaller und hatte hier die Höchstpunktzahl erhalten (Review). Nun schart der Nachfolger „Where Only The Truth Is Spoken“ bereits mit den Hufen, um euch auf die Hörner zu nehmen. Hören wir mal, ob auch dieses Album mit der Kraft und Gewalt eines wildgewordenen Büffels über euch herfallen wird.

Sänger Alex Taylor sagt über das neue Album:

Die Geschichte, die hinter jedem Song steht, stammt von gelebten Erfahrungen und nicht von bedeutungslosen Worte auf einer Seite. Es geht nicht nur um Wut oder Aggression; die Worte auf dem ganzen Album haben viel Gewicht, egal ob es um persönliche Kämpfe, den Zustand der Welt der Welt, oder die Höhen und Tiefen des Lebens. Es war mir wichtig, die Texte dieses Albums noch mehr zu intensivieren. diesem Album zu steigern. Ich denke, man kann die rohe Energie und die Emotionen in jedem Track spüren, und ich hoffe, dass die Leute sich damit auf einer tieferen Ebene verbinden. Es ist zu 100% mein bisher stolzestes Werk.

Das sind große Worte, aber ich mir sicher, dass diesen Worten auch großartige musikalische Taten folgen werden. Also die Play Taste gedrückt und ich bekomme ohne Umschweife direkt die volle Energie um die Ohren geballert. „Blood Top The Leach“ pumpt euch sofort mit Adrenalin voll. Das sind MALEVOLENCE! Dafür liebt man sie. Technisch durchaus anspruchsvoll präsentiert, aber kein Geschnörkel, sondern brutal auf den Punkt.

„Trenches“ ist eine wütende Keule, die gnadenlos um sich schlägt. Hier zeigen MALEVOLENCE auch, dass sie Meister darin sind, den Songs Leben einzuprügeln. Man spielt mit Rhythmen und erzeugt einen mitreißenden oder auch niederschmetternden Groove. Der Solopart und er Übergang davor sind einfach nur ultrastark.

Wie auf dem letzten Album, gibt es auch diesmal auf halber Strecke eine Ballade…. So dachte ich zumindest, als die ersten zarten Töne von „Salt The Wound“ erklangen. Doch dieser Song entpuppt sich dann doch als richtiges Biest, wie ich später feststellen sollte. Ein weiteres Merkmal von MAELVOLENCE sind die wilden ungezügelten Exzesse, die sich z.B. in einem Song wie „So Help Me God“ einem Sturm gleich entladen. Das blitzt und donnert gewaltig.

Fazit

MALEVOLENCE sind wie eine Herde rasender wütender Büffel, die die Erde zum Beben bringen. „Where Only The Truth Is Spoken“ ist wieder unheimlich kraftvoll, dabei aber auch aggressiv dynamisch mit wilden Eskapaden. Dabei klingen die neuen Songs noch ne Spur wütender und infernalischer als auf dem Vorgänger. Wiederum liefern MALEVOLENCE eine großartige Performance, an der es nichts zu kritisieren gibt. Volle Punktzahl!

MALEVOLENCE from Sheffield have now developed into a much-loved and popular act. Their uncompromising sound and energetic live shows are a hit with fans. The last album “Malicious Intent” (2022) was a real banger and received full score here (Review). Now the successor, “Where Only The Truth Is Spoken”, is already ready to blow your socks off. Let’s find out whether this album will also descend upon you with the force and violence of a wild buffalo.

Singer Alex Taylor says about the new album:

The story behind each song comes from lived experiences rather than just meaningless
words on the page. It’s not all just about anger or aggression; there’s a lot of weight in the
words across the whole album, whether that’s addressing personal struggles, the state of the
world, or the highs and lows of life. It was important to me to really step up on the lyrics of
this album. I think you can feel that raw energy and emotion in every track, and I hope
people will connect with it on a deeper level. It’s 100% my proudest work to date.

These are strong words, that harms expectations. But I am sure that these words will be followed by great musical deeds. So I press the play button and get the full energy blasted directly into my ears. „Blood Top The Leach“ immediately pumps you full of adrenaline. That’s MALEVOLENCE! That’s what you love them for. Technically quite sophisticatedly presented, but no frills, just brutally to the point.

„Trenches“ is a furious hammer that lashes out mercilessly. Here, MALEVOLENCE also show that they are masters at breathing life into their songs. They play with rhythms and create a rousing or devastating groove. The solo part and the transition before it are simply ultra-strong.

As on the last album, there is also a ballad halfway through this time…. At least that’s what I thought when I heard the first soft notes of „Salt The Wound“. But this song turns out to be a real beast, as I was to find out later. Another characteristic of MALEVOLENCE is their wild, unbridled excesses, which are unleashed like a storm in a song like „So Help Me God“. It flashes and thunders violently.

Conclusion

MALEVOLENCE are like a herd of raging, furious buffaloes that make the earth tremble. „Where Only The Truth Is Spoken“ is once again incredibly powerful, but also aggressively dynamic with wild escapades. The new songs sound even angrier and more infernal than on their predecessor. Once again, MALEVOLENCE deliver a great performance with nothing to criticize. Full points!
