Aus der Ukraine kommen viele Extreme-Metal Acts. Letztens hatten wir hier bei ‚metal-heads.de‘ SIDUS ATRUM besprochen, die mit ihrem neuen Album „Torn Sky“ beeindrucken konnten. Und nun kommen wir zur Band HELL:ON (Facebook), die mal ursprünglich 2005 als „HELLION“ begonnen hatten. Ihr Sound ist bisher eine brachiale Mischung aus Death und Thrash gewesen. Die vier Jahre Wartezeit bis zum neuen Album hat eine ganz einfache und traurige Erklärung, wie man sich schon denken kann.

Dieses Album hätte schon vor zwei Jahren erscheinen sollen, aber die russische Invasion in der Ukraine hat unser ganzes Leben auf Eis gelegt. Heutzutage versuchen wir dank unserer Streitkräfte, weiterzuleben und zu schaffen. Ich bin sicher, dass sich der Geist dieses Kampfes in diesem Werk widerspiegelt. Er verbirgt sich irgendwo zwischen den Gitarrensaiten, in den Echos schamanischer Stammesgesänge und dem Aufblitzen ritueller Feuer.

Düstere Abgründe

HELL:ON waren und sind kompromisslos in ihrer Art und wandelten schon immer in düsteren Welten. Doch mit den neuen Songs reisen sie noch tiefer ins Dunkle, wo kein Lichtstrahl den Weg findet. Das hat sicherlich auch mit dem grausamen Krieg zu tun. Gemäß dem Albumtitel gibt es mystische folkloristische Klänge zu hören, die sich mit dem gnadenlos harten Sound zu einer hochatmosphärischen Mischung mit okkulten Ausprägungen vereinigen. Somit lässt bereits der Opener „What Steppes Dream About“ einen Song vom Stapel, der mit einem verdammt mächtigen Sound jeden in seinen Bann zieht. Fast nahtlos geht es in den zweiten Song „When The Wild Wind and The Soul of Fire Meet“ über, der gleich zu Beginn mit famosen Riffs zu beeindrucken weiß. Hier kommen die folkloristischen Einflüsse nicht so zum Vorschein und der Song lebt eher vom den extrem starken Gitarren.

Wilde Raserei

ist ebenfalls ein wesentliche Bestandteil des Sounds, was nicht nur der Song „Tearing Winds of Innerself“ deutlich unter Beweis stellt. Neben seiner Wildheit besticht der Song wieder mit mystischen Komponenten, wozu auch die starken Chöre beitragen. Ein infernalischer Song! „Preparation for the Ritual“ besticht durch seine treibenden Beats und viel okkulten Klängen. Diese Kombination ist hammermäßig und zieht mich unerbittlich in seinen Bann.

Was mich wundert, ist die Tatsache, dass die beiden ersten veröffentlichten Songs die okkulten folkloristischen Komponenten gar nicht so sehr innehaben. Das finde ich schade, denn sie machen auf dem gesamten Album schon einen wichtigen Teil aus und für mich stellen sie eine hochwertige atmosphärische Komponente dar, die eben eine ganz besondere Stimmung erzeugt. Nichtsdestotrotz ist auch „He With The Horse’s Head“ ein durch und durch gelungener Song, der leicht orientalische Feelings verbreitet. Darüber hinaus finde ich den Einsatz von Tribal Drums gelungen. Allerdings hätte man diese ruhig noch deutlicher zum Vorschein bringen können, denn manchmal fallen sie mir zu sehr in den Hintergrund. Aber einen coolen Effekt haben sie trotzdem.

Fesselnd

ist das Album bis zum Ende, denn glücklicherweise halten HELL:ON das hohe intensive Niveau vollständig durch. Bei „A New Down“ geht es ebenfalls ungebändigt wüst zur Sache. Die wilder Raserei hatte ich ja schon erwähnt und wird auch hier wieder in niederschmetternder Art und Weise zelebriert. Doch der Song hat im Verlauf so viel mehr zu bieten. Aufregende Wendungen erwarten den Hörer und ein extrem starkes Gitarrensolo in einem ausgedehnten Instrumentalpart, der fantastisch ausgearbeitet wurde.

„I Am The Path“ prügelt einem die Sch… aus dem Leib. An dieser Stelle geht auch mal ein Lob an den geilen Drummer ???? raus, der hier einen absolut geil abliefert und dem Sound neben einer starken Dynamik viel Druck und Macht verleiht. Jetzt möchte ich noch auf den Song „Shaman“ eingehen, der das Album zum Ende führt. HELL:ON nehmen sich ganze sieben Minuten dafür Zeit. Man lässt die ungestüme Wildheit hinter sich und setzt hier eher auf eine schwarze doomgetränkte Atmosphäre. Der Song ist ein mächtiges Monster, dass sich über dem Hörer auftürmt. Auch hier bekommt man wieder ein super auf den Song abgestimmtes Gitarrensolo geboten. Die Shamangesänge im späteren Stadium des Songs entfalten zusammen mit dem brachialen Soundregen fast eine hypnotische Wirkung.

Fazit

HELL:ON haben bereits mit ihren vergangenen Alben bewiesen, dass sie sehr guten melodischen Death/Thrash Metal zocken können. Mit „Shaman“ begibt man sich zum Teil auf neues Terrain. HELL:ON klingen düsterer als jemals zuvor und erreichen auf dem neuen Album „Shaman“ ein viel intensivere und dichtere Atmosphäre als bisher. Dafür ist auch die Einbindung folkloristischer Elemente verantwortlich, die eine intensive mystische okkulte Stimmung erzeugen. Darüber hinaus verschaffen sie dem Sound einen spezifischen Touch. Die bombastische Produktion unterstreicht die Wirkung mit cineastischem Feeling. Ich möchte die kreative Leistung auf dem neuen Album, der die Wurzeln der Band aber nicht vergessen lässt, mit großartigen 9 Punkten belohnen.

Many extreme metal acts come from Ukraine. We recently reviewed SIDUS ATRUM here at ‚metal-heads.de‘, who impressed us with their new album „Torn Sky“. And now we come to the band HELL:ON (Facebook), who originally started out as „HELLION“ in 2005. Their sound so far has been a brute mixture of death and thrash. The four-year wait until the new album has a very simple and sad explanation, as you can imagine.

This album had to be released two years ago, but a full-scale invasion of Ukraine by russia has put our entire life on hold. Nowadays, due to our Armed Forces, we try to go on living and creating. I am sure that the spirit of this struggle was reflected in this work. It is hidden somewhere among the strings of the guitars, in the echoes of shamanic tribal vocals and flashes of ritual fires.

Dark abysses

HELL:ON were and are uncompromising in their style and have always walked in dark worlds. But with the new songs, they travel even deeper into the darkness, where no ray of light finds its way. This certainly has something to do with the cruel war. In keeping with the album title, there are mystical folkloristic sounds to be heard, which create with the mercilessly hard sound a highly atmospheric mixture with occult overtones. The opener „What Steppes Dream About“ is a song that captivates you with its damn powerful sound. The second song „When The Wild Wind and The Soul of Fire Meet“ follows almost seamlessly, impressing right from the start with its famous riffs. The folkloristic influences are not so apparent here and the song lives more from the extremely strong guitars and mighty drums.

Wild fury

is also an essential part of the sound, which is not only clearly demonstrated by the song rousing „Tearing Winds of Innerself“. In addition to its wildness, the song again captivates with mystical components, to which the strong choirs also contribute. An infernal song! „Preparation for the Ritual“ impresses with its driving beats and lots of occult influences. This combination is awesome and captivates me relentlessly.

What surprises me is the fact that the first two songs released don’t have the occult folkloristic components so much. I don’t really understand that, because these sounds make up an important part of the whole album and for me they represent a high-quality atmospheric component that creates a very special mood. Nevertheless, „He With The Horse’s Head“ is also a thoroughly successful song that has a slightly oriental feel to it. I also think the use of tribal drums is successful. However, they could have been brought out more clearly, because sometimes they fall too much into the background for me. But they still have a cool effect.

Engrossing

The album is a real thrill ride to the end, because fortunately HELL:ON maintain the high level of intensity throughout. „A New Down“ is also an unbridled and wild affair. I have already mentioned the wild frenzy and it is celebrated here again in a devastating manner. But the song has so much more to offer as it progresses. Exciting twists and turns await the listener and an extremely strong guitar solo in an extended instrumental part that has been fantastically elaborated.

„I Am The Path“ beats the sh… out of you. At this point, I’d also like to praise the awesome drummer, who delivers an absolutely great performance here and gives the sound a lot of pressure and power in addition to strong dynamics. Now I’d like to talk about the song „Shaman“, which brings the album to a close. HELL:ON take a whole seven minutes for it. They leave the impetuous wildness behind and focus more on a black doom-soaked atmosphere. The song is a mighty monster that towers over the listener. Here, too, the guitar solo is perfectly matched to the song. The shaman chants in the later stages of the song, together with the brute rain of sound, have an almost hypnotic effect.

Conclusion

HELL:ON have already proven with their previous albums that they can play very good melodic death/thrash metal. With „Shaman“, they are now partly entering new territory. HELL:ON sound darker than ever before and achieve a much more intense and denser atmosphere on the new album „Shaman“ than before. This is also due to the inclusion of folkloristic elements, which create an intense mystical occult aura. They also give the sound a specific touch. The bombastic production underlines the effect with a cinematic flair. I would like to reward the creative performance on the new album, which does not forget the band’s roots, with great 9 points.

Überragender Melodic-Death-Metal

ORBIT CULTURE (Facebook ) lassen wieder von sich hören. Und wie! Nach dem letzten Album „Nija“ (Review ), welches in meiner persönlichen Bestenliste des Jahre 2020 landete, prügeln die Schweden uns wieder in ihrer ganz besonders martialischen Art und Weise einige Songs um die Ohren. Für ein ganzes Album hat es nicht gereicht, aber die neue EP „Shaman“ mit ihren 25 Minuten Spielzeit ist schon eine ordentliche Ansage und für einen Snack zwischendurch mehr als nur laues Fast Food. E ist vielmehr ne ganz scharfe Mahlzeit. Und welche Band haut schon ein Jahr später noch ein ganzes Album raus? Also sollten wir sehr glücklich mit diesem Output sein, mit dem die meisten wahrscheinlich ohnehin nicht gerechnet hätten. Ich bin jedenfalls wieder einmal völlig geflasht!

Typisch ORBIT CULTURE

Ich bin der Meinung, dass ORBIT CULTURE ihren ganz eigenen Sound gefunden und somit eindeutig einen Wiedererkennungswert geschaffen haben. Man hebt sich mit dem Sound deutlich von der Masse ab! Und die neue EP „Shaman“ ist die Fortsetzung des letzten Albums „Nija“, welches bei mir schon mächtig eingeschlagen hat.

Monumental brutal

kämpfen sich ORBIT CULTURE mit der gewohnten Unerbittlichkeit ihren Weg frei. Sie haben rein nichts von ihrer Energie und Brutalität verloren. Ganz im Gegenteil… Sie setzen ihren Weg konsequent fort und schmettern uns in martialischer Manier ihre Songs in die Ohren. Die Single „Flight Of The Fireflies“ glänzt dabei mit einem tollen epischen Chorus, der das Metalherz bis zum bersten aufpumpt.

Eine hochwertige Mischung

aus schonungsloser Prügelei und einer verdammt kraftvollen melodischen Power führt zu einer einzigartigen extremen Erfahrung. Man höre sich den epischen Abschlusstrack „A Sailors Tale“ an und man kann gar nicht anders als vor Ehrfurcht niederknien und diesem genialen Sound huldigen. Allein diese Entwicklung des Songs von den anfangs einleitenden Cellos, über die fulminante Überleitung zu dem treibenden brutalen Part bis hin zu dem heroischen Chorus, kann man nur als genial bezeichnen. Der Song ist eine Offenbarung!

Den gnadenlosen Dampfhammer

holen ORBIT CULTURE mit den Songs „Carvings“ und „Strangler“ hervor. Hier wird hemmungslos Druck gemacht und es wird straight nach vorne marschiert. Die Songs pushen ohne Ende und dulden keine Pause. Eine absolute Kampfansage!

„Mast Of The World“

ist er Opener der treibenden Hetzjagd, auf den ich hier zum Ende noch mal eingehen möchte. Es ist ein mit Blastbeat-Attacken gespickter Midtempo-Brecher. Das variable furiose Drumming ist eines der typischen Merkmale, die ORBIT CULTURE auszeichnen. Was aber speziell den Song „Mast Of The World“ auszeichnet, sind die Klänge einer gewaltigen Kirchenorgel, welche zum Ende sogar gemeinsam mit den Klängen von einem Cello eine eindrucksvolle atmosphärische Sequenz bilden. Leider gibt es zu dem Song kein Video. Also müsst Ihr Eure Neugierde diesbezüglich bis zur Veröffentlichung ein wenig zügeln. Dazu habe ich…

…eine kleine persönliche Anekdote.

Ich war aufgrund der Konfirmation meines Sohnes tatsächlich mal in der Kirche. Ja ich weiß…. Normalerweise Langeweile ohne Ende. Und was haben ORBIT CULTURE mit Kirche zu tun? Aber tatsächlich haben mich zwei Dinge an diesem Gottesdienst begeistert. Zum einen hat eine professionelle Violinistin diesen Gottesdienst mit ihrem Spiel bereichert. Eine ganz tolle Erfahrung. Zum anderen hat die Organistin zum Abschluss mal richtig in die Orgeltasten gehauen und uns von Johann Sebastian Bach die Komposition „Toccata and Fugue in D Minor“ in die Ohren fahren lassen. Ich war hin und weg von diesem Sound und habe tatsächlich direkt ORBIT CULTURE gedacht. Falls niemand weiß, wovon ich rede, der sollte sich wenigstens die ersten zwei Minuten des folgenden Stücks anhören.

Fazit

ORBIT CULTURE bieten nach wie vor monumentalen brachialen Melodic-Death-Metal, der in seiner Art einzigartig ist. Ich habe das Album „Nija“ letztes Jahr mit 10 Punkten bewertet und ORBIT CULTURE reiten weiter ganz oben auf der Monsterwelle. Die Männer geben sich keine Blöße und bieten ein wahres Fest von Killersongs, die dermaßen scheppern, dass einem schwindelig wird.

Perfekt ausgearbeitete Songs bahnen sich ihren Weg. Der Sound ist wie gehabt kompromisslos hart. Das charakteristische monstermäßige Drumming und der geile Gesang sind unvergleichlich. Das gesamte auditive Gesamtkonzept bieten ein fantastisches Hörerlebnis. Das ist nicht einfach nur stumpfe Power ohne Sinn und Verstand, sondern eine geschickte soundtechnische Kriegsführung, die keinen Widerstand duldet und Euer Herz im Sturm erobert. Für mich aktuell eine der besten Bands!

Etwas hätte ich aber noch….

Und so sehr ich den Sound von ORBIT CULTURE liebe und schätze, so wünschte ich mir doch, dass die großartige cleane Stimme von Sänger Niklas ab und zu mehr Raum bekommen würde und nicht nur beim kraftvoll geschmetterten Chorus. Die Growls sind ohne Zweifel erste Sahne, aber auch gerade die cleane Voice hat ein wunderbar charakteristisches Klangbild. Ich erinnere mich an den Song „Rebirth“ vom letzten Album „Nija“. Dies war auch der erste Song, den ich von ORBIT CULTURE zu hören bekam. Diese irre geile Stimme im anfänglich ruhigen Part des Songs hatte mich voll abgeholt. Noch eine Kostprobe von der etwas gefühlvolleren Seite gab es beim Song „Behold“.

Aber es ändert nichts an der Tatsache, dass die EP „Shaman“ ein wahrer Killer ist. ORBIT CULTURE liefern wieder volle Granate ab.

Outstanding melodic death metal

ORBIT CULTURE (Facebook ) let us hear from them again. And how! After the last album „Nija“ (Review), which landed in my personal best list of 2020, the Swedes beat us again in their very special martial way some songs around the ears. It was not enough for a whole album, but the new EP „Shaman“ with its 25 minutes playing time is already a decent announcement and for a snack in between more than just lukewarm fast food, but rather a quite spicy meal. And which band releases a whole album already one year later? So we should be very happy with this output, which most people probably wouldn’t have expected anyway. In any case, I’m totally blown away!

Typical ORBIT CULTURE

I am of the opinion that ORBIT CULTURE have found their very own sound and have thus clearly created a recognition value. They stand out with the sound clearly from the masses! And the new EP „Shaman“ is the continuation of the last album „Nija“, which already had a powerful impact on me.

Monumental brutal

ORBIT CULTURE fight their way free with their usual relentlessness. They have lost nothing of their energy and brutality. Quite the opposite… They continue their way consequently and blast their songs into our ears in a martial manner. The single „Flight Of The Fireflies“ shines with a great epic chorus, which pumps up the metal heart to bursting.

A high quality mixture

of relentless thrashing and a damn powerful melodic power leads to a unique extreme experience. Listen to the epic closing track „A Sailors Tale“ and you can’t help but kneel in awe and pay homage to this ingenious sound. Just this evolution of the song from the initial introductory cellos, to the brilliant transition to the driving brutal part and the heroic chorus, can only be described as genius. The song is a revelation!

The merciless hammer

ORBIT CULTURE bring out with the songs „Carvings“ and „Strangler“. Here the pressure is put on mercilessly and the band marches straight forward. The songs push without end and don’t tolerate a break. An absolute declaration of war!

„Mast Of The World“

is the opener of the driving chase, which I would like to mention here at the end. It is a midtempo crusher peppered with blastbeat attacks. The variable furious drumming is one of the typical features that distinguish ORBIT CULTURE. But what especially distinguishes the song „Mast Of The World“ are the sounds of a huge church organ, which even form an impressive atmospheric sequence together with the sounds of a cello at the end. Unfortunately there is no video for the song. So you have to curb your curiosity a little bit until the release. For this I have…

A little anecdote

on the subject of the church organ. I was after a long time once again in the church due to the confirmation of my son. Yes I know…. Normally boredom without end. But actually two things excited me. First, a professional violinist enriched this worship with her playing. A very great experience. On the other hand, the organist really hit the organ keys and let the piece „Toccata and Fugue in D Minor“ by Johann Sebastian Bach hit my ears. I was blown away by this sound and actually thought directly of the song by ORBIT CULTURE. If no one knows what I’m talking about, they should at least listen to the first two minutes of the following track before continuing with ORBIT CULTURE. Maybe it will increase your curiosity a little bit for what is to come.

Conclusion

ORBIT CULTURE offers monumental brute Melodic-Death-Metal, which is unique in its kind. I rated the album „Nija“ last year with 10 points and ORBIT CULTURE continue to ride on top of the monster wave. The men show no mercy and offer a true feast of killer songs that rattle so much that it makes you dizzy.

Perfectly crafted songs pave their way. The sound is as usual uncompromisingly hard. The characteristic monster drumming and the awesome vocals are incomparable. The entire overall auditory concept offer a fantastic listening experience. This is not just blunt power without sense and reason, but a skillful sound warfare that tolerates no resistance and takes your heart by storm.

ORBIT CULTURE nailed it. For me currently one of the best bands ever!

But I still have something…

as much as I love and appreciate the sound of ORBIT CULTURE, I wish that the clean voice of singer Niklas would get more space now and then and not only during the powerfully smashing chorus. The growls are without a doubt first class, but also just the clean voice has a wonderfully characteristic sound. I remember the song „Rebirth“ from the last album „Nija“. This was also the first song I got to hear from ORBIT CULTURE. That crazy awesome voice in the initial quiet part of the song had me totally picked up. Another taste of the more soulful side was the song „Behold“. But it doesn’t change the fact that

the EP „Shaman“ is a real killer.
