 „Alagabia“ ist das zweite Video von NEBALAs Show beim Midgardsblot Festival 2022. Es wird am 09.März 2023 veröffentlicht.

Das Midgardsblot Festival findet seit 2015 in Borre in Norwegen statt. Dort gibt es mehrere Wikinger – Grabhügel und die Gildenhalle, eine einzigartige Rekonstrunktion einer großen Wikingerhalle.

Das Midgardsblot Festival bietet Bands aus den Bereichen Metal, Folk und Dark Ambient eine Bühne. 2022 haben dort u.a. WARDRUNA, ROTTING CHRIST, HEILUNG, PRIMORDIAL, EINHERJER, GAERA und NYTT LAND gespielt.

Und eben auch NEBALA, die dort – wie vorher schon beim Castlefest in den Niederlanden – eine großartige Show abgeliefert haben.

NEBALA ist das Projekt von Jonas Lorentzen, der bis 2019 Vocalist bei HEILUNG war. Aus der Zusammenarbeit mit Sebastian Gainsborough („Vessel“, The Northman) und Kjell Braaten (WARDRUNA, ORIGAMI GALAKTIKA)  entstanden die EP „Lustuz“ (2020) und das Album „Lustuz Laþu Wōþuz Alu“ (2022).

Klangliche Vielfalt, Intensität und Spannung

Die Musik von NEBALA basiert sowohl auf Geschichten der altnordischen Mythologie als auch auf deren Verständnis der Verbindung von Kreativität und Sexualität als Ursprung von Poesie und Gesang. Dabei spielen NEBALA mit kulturellen, klanglichen und zeitlichen Grenzen, was die Spannung und Intensität der Musik ausmacht.
Aus dem Spiel mit traditionellen Instrumenten wie Leiern, Hörnern, Tagelharpa, Organistrum, tibetischen Klangschalen und verschiedenen Formen des Kehlgesangs haben NEBALA einen neuen ‚indo-nordischen Klang‘ geformt.
Die Verwendung der proto-nordischen Sprache, Versen aus den Hávamál, den Namen von Runen, Göttern und Göttinnen (wie in „Alagabia“) ermöglicht einen anderen Zugang sowohl zur Musik als auch den philosophischen Überlegungen, die den Liedern zusätzlich Kraft verleihen.

Alagabia

„Alagabia“ ist das zweite Video, das NEBALA herausbringen, bis es im April das komplette Konzert zu sehen und zu hören gibt.
Die Wörter, die im Song gesungen werden, sind Namen von Göttinnen Diese Namen sind u.a. auf Runensteinen aus dem Rheinland, insbesondere dem Gebiet der Ubier zu finden.

Dazu sagt Jonas Lorentzen: „Alagabia ist dem höchsten Ideal des weiblichen Prinzips gewidmet. Alle Namen, die in diesem ätherischen Lied gesungen werden, sind Namen von Muttergöttinnen aus dem Rheinland um 500 n. Chr. Alagabia Beda Blīþuz Garmangabis Tāhistumehijā“

Die Alagabiae sind germanische Göttinnen. Sie sind Muttergottheiten, Matronen, denen zwischen dem 1. und 5. Jahrhundert Votivsteine und Altäre errichtet wurden. ‚Alagabia‘ bedeutet „die alles Gebenden, die reich Gebenden“. Die Matronen wurden als Göttinnen der Fruchtbarkeit, des Schutzes der Familie aber auch als Kriegsgöttinnen verehrt. Der Matronenkult war im keltischen und im germanischen Raum und dabei insbesondere im Rheinland vertreten. So sind z.B. Votivsteine mit ihren Namen in der Ringmauer von Haus Bürgel bei Düsseldorf zu finden.

Song und Video

„Alagabia“ beginnt mit sanften Tommelschlägen. Nach und nach baut sich eine beschwörende Grundstimmung auf, in der sowohl hoffnungsvolle klangliche Weite als auch schmerzliche Momente entstehen. Im Video wird spürbar, wie sich die Spannung auf der Bühne auf das Publikum überträgt.
Außerdem ermöglicht die Kameraführung einen Einblick, wie die Instrumente gespielt werden und welche Töne und Klänge sie erzeugen. Die Qualität der Tonaufnahmen ist ausgezeichnet und die Kamera hat die Stimmung gut eingefangen. Die Beleuchtung sowie die künstlerische Bearbeitung unterstreichen die Wirkung der Musik.

Am 18. Januar 2023 kam mit „Skinanariaz“ das erste Video heraus. Im April wird die gesamte Aufzeichnung des Konzertes zu sehen sein. Außerdem werden NEBALA in diesem Jahr weitere Shows spielen.

ALAGABIA – new video of NEBALA live at Midgardsblot Festival

„Alagabia“ is the second video from NEBALA’s show at Midgardsblot Festival 2022 and will be released on 09 March 2023. The Midgardsblot Festival has been taking place in Borre, Norway since 2015. There are several Viking burial mounds and the Guild Hall, a unique reconstruction of a large Viking hall.
The Midgardsblot Festival offers a stage for bands from the fields of metal, folk and dark ambient. In 2022, WARDRUNA, ROTTING CHRIST, HEILUNG, PRIMORDIAL, EINHERJER, GAERA and NYTT LAND, among others, played there.
And also NEBALA, who put on a great show there – as they did before at Castlefest in the Netherlands.

Sound diversity, intensity and tension

NEBALA’s music is based both on stories of Old Norse mythology and on their understanding of the connection between creativity and sexuality as the origin of poetry and song. In doing so, NEBALA play with cultural, sonic and temporal boundaries, which is what creates the tension and intensity of the music.
Playing with traditional instruments such as lyres, horns, Tagelharpa, Organistrum, Tibetan singing bowls and various forms of throat singing, NEBALA have formed a new ‚Indo-Nordic sound‘.
The use of the proto-Nordic language, verses from the Hávamál, and the names of runes, gods and goddesses (as in „Alagabia“) allow a different approach to both the music and the philosophical considerations that give the songs additional power.

Alagabia

„Alagabia“ is the second video NEBALA are releasing until the full concert can be seen and heard in April.
The words sung in the song are names of goddesses These names can be found on rune stones from the Rhineland, in particular the territory of the Ubians.

Jonas Lorentzen says: „Alagabia is dedicated to the highest ideal of the female principle. All names chanted in this ethereal song are mother goddess names from the Rhineland ca. 500 ad. Alagabia Beda Blīþuz Garmangabis Tāhistumehijā“

The Alagabiae are Germanic goddesses. They are mother deities, matrons, to whom votive stones and altars were erected between the 1st and 5th centuries. ‚Alagabia‘ means „the all-givers, the rich givers“. The matrons were worshipped as goddesses of fertility, and protection of the family but also as goddesses of war. The matron cult was represented in the Celtic and Germanic regions, especially in the Rhineland. For example, votive stones with their names can be found in the ring wall of Haus Bürgel near Düsseldorf.

Song and video

„Alagabia“ begins with gentle drumbeats. Gradually, an evocative mood builds up in which both hopeful sonic expansiveness and painful moments emerge. In the video, you can feel how the tension on stage is transferred to the audience.
In addition, the camera work provides an insight into how the instruments are played and what tones and sounds they produce. The quality of the sound recording is excellent and the camera captured the mood well. The lighting as well as the artistic editing emphasise the effect of the music.

On 18 January 2023, the first video, „Skinanariaz“, was released. In April, the entire recording of the concert will be available. NEBALA will also be playing more shows this year.

NEBALA veröffentlichen heute erstes Video ihrer Show auf dem Midgardsblot Metal Festival

NEBALA haben im August 2022 eine großartige Show auf dem Midgardsblot Festival gespielt.

Das Midgardsblot ist ein Open-Air Festival, auf dem in 2022  u.a.  WARDRUNA, PRIMORDIAL, GAERA, NYTT LAND, EINHERJER, HEILUNG und ROTTING CHRIST gespielt haben.

Midgardsblot findet in Borre bei Horten in Norwegen statt. Und zwar auf historischem Boden. In Borre gibt es mehrere Wikinger-Grabhügel. Dort steht auch die Gildenhalle, eine einzigartige Rekonstruktion einer großen Wikingerhalle.

Neben Bands aus den Bereichen Metal, Folk, Dark Ambient gibt es in jedem Jahr Vorträge, Podiumsdiskussionen und Ausstellungen.

Midgardsblot: Vielfalt feiern

Im Zentrum des Festivals steht die Idee, ein neutraler Ort zu sein, an dem es darum geht, Grenze zu überwinden, das Gemeinsame und die Vielfalt zu feiern. Also ein Ort für alle Menschen. Unabhängig von der Nationalität, dem kulturellen Hintergrund, der ethnischen Zugehörigkeit oder der sexuellen Orientierung.

NEBALA überwinden Grenzen

Grenzen überwinden – sowohl musikalisch als auch in philosophischer Hinsicht – ist einer der zentralen Punkte bei NEBALA.

Ihre Show auf dem Midgardsblot Festival wurde aufgezeichnet. Heute können wir das erste Video sehen. Und zwar zum Lied „Skinanariaz“.

„Skinanariaz“ beginnt beschwörend mit tiefen Vocals und bewegt innerlich und äußerlich durch die Rhythmen der immer intensiver werdenden Trommeln. Darüber entfaltet sich eine wunderbare Melodie, die von Sehnsucht, Wut, Fesseln und Schmerz singt. Das Lied ist eine Umsetzung der Interaktion zwischen diesen Elementen.

Auch wenn man die Wörter nicht versteht, kann man diese Interaktion spüren. Diesen Widerstreit haben Jonas Lorentzen und Josh Rood (von der isländischen Black Metal Band NEXION) ausdrucksvoll dargestellt.
Auf das Video „Skinanariaz“ werden im Februar noch zwei weitere Videos und später die Aufzeichnung des gesamten Konzertes folgen.

In diesem Jahr wird es außerdem weitere Möglichkeiten geben, NEBALA live zu erleben. Dazu demnächst mehr.

NEBALA played a great show at the Midgardsblot Festival in August 2022.

Midgardsblot is an open-air festival where in 2022 WARDRUNA, PRIMORDIAL, GAERA, NYTT LAND, EINHERJER, HEILUNG and ROTTING CHRIST played.

Midgardsblot takes place in Borre near Horten in Norway. And it is on historical ground. There are several Viking burial mounds in Borre. There is also the Guild Hall, a unique reconstruction of a large Viking hall.

Besides bands from the fields of metal, folk, and dark ambient, there are lectures, panel discussions and exhibitions every year.

Celebrating diversity

At the heart of the festival is the idea of being a neutral place to cross borders, to celebrate what we have in common and diversity. In other words, a place for all people. Regardless of nationality, cultural background, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

NEBALA: overcoming boundaries

Overcoming boundaries – both musically and philosophically – is one of the central points of NEBALA.

NEBALA play with sonic as well as temporal and cultural boundaries in their music. Their songs are based on Old Norse mythology and its understanding of the connection between sexuality and creativity as the source of song and poetry.

NEBALA is the project of Jonas Lorentzen, who was vocalist for HEILUNG until 2019. From the collaboration with Sebastian Gainsborough („Vessel“, The Northman) and Kjell Braaten (WARDRUNA, ORIGAMI GALAKTIKA) ), the EP „Lustuz“ (2020) and the album „Lustuz Laþu Wōþuz Alu“ (2022) were born.

Their show at the Midgardsblot Festival was recorded. Today we can see the first video. And it is for the song „Skinanariaz“.

“Skinanariaz“ begins evocatively with deep vocals and moves inwardly and outwardly through the rhythms of the increasingly intense drums. Above this, a wonderful melody unfolds, singing of longing, anger, and pain. The song is a realisation of the interaction between these elements.

Even if you don’t understand the words, you can feel this interaction. Jonas Lorentzen and Josh Rood (from the Icelandic black metal band NEXION) have expressively portrayed this contradiction.

The video „Skinanariaz“ will be followed by two more videos in February and later by the recording of the entire concert.
