Nach dem mittlerweile zweiten epischen Interview (Link) mit der kanadischen Band OSYRON (Homepage/Facebook) folgt nun das Review für deren neues Album „Momentous“, welches am kommenden Freitag am 04.11.’22 erscheinen wird. Ehrlich gesagt war ich auf das, was sich mir offenbarte, nicht vorbereitet. Das Album hat mich in mehrfach überrascht. Überrascht hat mich allerdings nicht die Qualität der dargebotenen Musik, denn ich habe Erstklassiges erwartet und dahingehend wurde ich nicht enttäuscht.

Alte und neue Wege

OSYRON sind dafür bekannt gerne mal orchestrale Sounds in ihre Musik einzubauen. Dies hat man vor allem bei der EP Foundations gehört. Nun gehen sie noch etwas andere Wege und verpassen ihrem Sound einen Anteil authentischer Folk Musik. Genau solche Klänge bestimmen den Beginn vom Opener „Anunnaki“, die von der Band PERCIVAL SCHUTTENBACH (Facebook) stammen. Dabei handelt es sich um die Musiker Mikołaj Rybacki und Katarzyna Bromirska. Diese sind hin und wieder auf dem Album zu hören und das hört sich tatsächlich ziemlich cool an. Sie schenken der Musik eine ganz spezielle Atmosphäre.

Harmonische Härte

Nach dem folkloristischen Intro wird ein weiteres Merkmal offenbart, nämlich knackige düstere Härte. Mein lieber Scholli… Das kracht recht ordentlich. Sänger Reed lässt somit keinen Zweifel daran, dass er nicht nur wunderbar harmonisch singen kann, sondern auch eine dunkle Seite besitzt. Doch dazu später noch mehr.

„Anunnaki“ ist ein atmosphärisch dichter Song mit allem bestückt, was das Metalherz begehrt. Es gibt fettes Riffing, tolle Solos, ein sehr dynamisches Drumming und starke prägnante Basslinien. Der Sound wandelt zwischen harmonischen tragenden und druckvollen dunklen Passagen. Und dieses Konzept setzt sich in verschiedenen Formen und Ausprägungen auf dem gesamten Album fort.

Dominion Day

gab uns als erste Single bereits einen Vorgeschmack auf das, was uns OSYRON auf ihrem neuen Album bieten. Der Sound ist knackig hart und düsterer geworden. Dementsprechend martialisch beginnt der Song. Kurze Zeit später brilliert Sänger Reed Alton mit seinen fantastischen cleanen Vocals. Ist schon irre, welche sauberen hohen Töne er seiner Kehle entlocken kann. Er hat eine unheimlich emotionale Ader in jeder Hinsicht und eine wahnsinnige Kontrolle über seine Stimme. Diese zarte klare Stimme in der emotionalen Einführung des Songs im Vergleich zu den kraftvoll gesungenen Parts bis hin zur totalen bösen Eskalation sind sehr eindrucksvoll. Diese Range von Reed Alton ist außergewöhnlich und bemerkenswert. Der Gesang ist eine der vielen Künste , die OSYRON beherrschen.

Der Hammer des Wahnsinns

kreist dann mit dem Song „Landslide“. Ganz ehrlich… Beim ersten Hören dachte ich zunächst, dass sich eine andere Band in die Playlist gemogelt hätte. Denn plötzlich und ohne Vorwarnung raste ein thrashiger Melo-Death-Zug durch meine Ohren. Pure Eskalation! Von epischen Harmonien keine Spur! Das ist einfach ein K.O.-Schlag! Damit haben mich OSYRON eiskalt erwischt und fast ausgeknockt. Zwischendurch erkennt man dann wieder die Tugenden von OSYRON mit ihrem tollen Chorus, der die ganze Prügelei etwas auflockert. Aber ansonsten schießt Reed die aggressivsten Vocals aus seiner Kehle, die ich je von ihm gehört habe. Dies hat mir sehr einducksvoll aufgezeigt, zu was für „Schandtaten“ OSYRON in der Lage sind. Es gibt wohl nichts, wovor sie zurückschrecken würden oder was sie nicht spielen könnten.

Meister ihres Fachs

Neben dem fabelhaften Gesang von Reed glänzen alle Instrumentalisten der Band mit ausgezeichneten Skills. Die technischen Fähigkeiten sind auf einem sehr hohen Level und man kann nur Füllhörner voll des Lobes über sie ausschütten. So schaffen es OSYRON progressive Strukturen mit vielen Details zu erschaffen ohne den Hörer zu überfordern. Sie bewahren sich trotzdem mit großartigen Melodien und epischen Chören eine Eingängigkeit, die Euch immer wieder einfängt. Es entsteht eine atemberaubende Dynamik und man gerät immer wieder ins Staunen, was OSYRON alles in einem einzelnen Song aus dem Hut zaubern.

Es darf auch mal ruhiger werden

Manche Songs auf dem Album stehen in einem völligen Kontrast zueinander. Einerseits gibt es die harten Smasher (z.B. „Landslide“) und dann präsentieren sie fantastische gefühlvolle Balladen, die sich in einem epischen Finale ergießen wie z.B. „Sorrow And Extinction“ oder so eine bedächtige und doch faszinierende Offenbarung wie „Prairie Sailor“, bei der Reed es schafft ganz allein mit dem Zauber seiner Stimme den Hörer einzufangen.

Monumental

Und dann gibt es Songs, die von allem etwas haben und dafür steht vor allem der Titeltrack „Momentous“, bei dem nicht nur die Spielzeit von über 12 Minuten monumental ist, sondern auch seine musikalische Entfaltung. Wieder einmal geben sie Percival Schuttenbach die Ehre und leiten diesen Song über zwei Minuten mit ihrer wundervollen Folklore ein. Es folgt ein sanfter Übergang mit akustischen Gitarren, zu denen sich Reeds gefühlvoller Gesang gesellt. Der Song lässt sich wirklich Zeit und er setzt sich langsam aber sicher zu einer epischen Kunstwerk zusammen, das mit so manchen Wendungen überrascht.

Das Duell

Und es gibt noch eine Überraschung. Sänger Stu Block (Annihilator, Into Eternity) zelebriert hier zusammen mit Reed Alton eine sehr beeindruckende Gesagangsperformance beim Song „The Deafening“ Und auch hier begeistern OSYRON mit einem monumentalen Songaufbau und einer immens packenden Atmossphäre. Der noch zurückhaltende melancholische Beginn mit wundervollen Gesangslinien der beiden Sänger mit seinen eingespielten leicht bedrohlichen Stimmungen gipfelt in einem packenden gesanglichen Duell zwischen Reed und Stu mit einem radikalen Finale. Das Gitarrensolo ist super umgesetzt. Es klingt ungewöhnlich und ist mal ganz anders, was das Thema des Songs jedoch gut widerspiegelt. So wurde das Thema des inneren Kampfes mit extremen Emotionen rundum perfekt in Szene gesetzt, was man auch von dem tollen Video sagen kann.

Fazit

OSYRON überlassen nichts dem Zufall! Mit ihrem Album „Momentous“ haben OSYRON nicht nur einen großen Moment erschaffen, sondern gleich 10 davon. Die Kunstfertigkeiten der Band sind ohne jeden Zweifel auf einem sehr hohen Level, was sie in mehr als beeindruckender Art und Weise zur Schau stellen. Die Songs sind intelligent und ausgewogen arrangiert, beweisen bei den Kompositionen viel Gespür und Gefühl für Atmosphöre und Details, so dass man den unwiderstehlichen Drang verspürt immer wieder und wieder diese epische Reise mit OSYRON zu gehen.

After the meanwhile second epic interview (Link) with the Canadian band OSYRON (Homepage/Facebook) now follows the review for their new album „Momentous“, which will be released next Friday on 04.11.’22. Honestly, I was not prepared for what was revealed to me. The album surprised me in several ways. Surprised me, however, not the quality of the music presented, because I expected first-class and in this case I was not disappointed.

harmonious hardness

After the folkloristic intro another feature is revealed, namely crisp gloomy hardness. Holy shit… This cracks quite neatly. Singer Reed thus leaves no doubt that he can not only sing wonderfully harmonious, but also has a dark side. But more about that later.

„Anunnaki“ is an atmospherically dense song with everything the metal heart desires. There is fat riffing, great solos, a very dynamic drumming and strong concise bass lines. The sound changes between harmonic carrying and punchy dark passages. And this concept continues in various forms and shapes throughout the album.

Dominion Day

gave us as the first single already a foretaste of what OSYRON offer us on their new album. The sound has become crisply hard and gloomy. Accordingly, the song begins martial. A short time later singer Reed Alton shines with his fantastic clean vocals. It’s impressive what clean high tones he can elicit from his throat. He has an incredibly emotional vein in every sense and an insane control over his voice. This delicate clear voice in the emotional introduction of the song compared to the powerfully sung parts to the dark escalation are very impressive. This range of Reed Alton is exceptional and remarkable. The vocals are one of many arts that OSYRON have mastered.

The hammer of madness

swirls with the song „Landslide“. Honestly… At first hearing I thought that another band had cheated into the playlist. Because suddenly and without warning, a thrashy Melo-Death train raced through my ears. Pure escalation! No trace of epic harmonies! This is simply a knockout blow! With this OSYRON almost knocked me out. In between you can recognize the virtues of OSYRON again with their great chorus, which loosens up the whole beating a bit. But otherwise Reed shoots the most aggressive vocals out of his throat that I have ever heard from him. This showed me very impressively what kind of „outrages“ OSYRON are capable of. There is probably nothing they would shy away from or that they can’t play.

Masters of their craft

Besides Reed’s fabulous vocals, all the band’s instrumentalists shine with excellent skills. The technical skills are on a very high level and one can only pour out cornucopias full of praise about them. Thus OSYRON manage to create progressive structures with many details without overwhelming the listener. They still keep a catchiness with great melodies and epic choirs that catches you again and again. A breathtaking dynamic is created and you are always amazed at what OSYRON conjure everything out of the hat in a single song.

it can also be quieter sometimes

Some songs on the album are in complete contrast to each other. On the one hand there are the hard smashers (e.g. „Landslide“) and then they present fantastic soulful ballads that pour out in an epic finale like „Sorrow And Extinction“ or such a thoughtful yet fascinating revelation like „Prairie Sailor“, where Reed manages to capture the listener all alone with the magic of his voice.

And then there are songs that have a little bit of everything, and the title track „Momentous“ stands for that above all, where not only the playing time of over 12 minutes is monumental, but also its musical unfolding. Once again they give the honor to Percival Schuttenbach and introduce this song over two minutes with their wonderful folklore. A gentle transition follows with acoustic guitars joined by Reed’s soulful vocals. The song really takes its time and it slowly but surely builds up into an epic work of art that surprises with quite a few twists and turns.

And there is another surprise. Singer Stu Block (Annihilator, Into Eternity) celebrates here together with Reed Alton a very impressive vocal performance on the song „The Deafening“ And also here OSYRON inspire with a monumental song structure and an immensely gripping atmosphere. The still reserved melancholic beginning with wonderful vocal lines of both singers with its slightly threatening moods culminates in a gripping vocal duel between Reed and Stu with a radical finale. The guitar solo is super realized. It sounds unusual and is quite different for a change, but this reflects the theme of the song well. Thus, the theme of inner struggle with extreme emotions was perfectly staged all around, which can also be said of the great video.

OSYRON leave nothing to chance! With their album „Momentous“ OSYRON have created not only one great moment, but 10 of them. The band’s artistry is without a doubt on a very high level, which they showcase in a more than impressive way. The songs are arranged in an intelligent and balanced way, proving a great sense and feeling for atmosphere and details in the compositions, so that you feel the irresistible urge to go on this epic journey with OSYRON again and again.

Natürlich weil sie es verdient haben! Angefangen hat es mit der EP „Foundations“ (Review ), die mich letztes Jahr begeisterte. Einfach mal die Suchfunktion auf unserer Website benutzen. Hochprofessionell gehen OSYRON stets zu Werke und sind Meister ihres Fachs. „Kingsbane“ ist eigentlich der Longplayer, welcher der EP „Foundations“ vorgeschaltet war und 2017 erstmals veröffentlicht wurde. OSYRON haben sich nun entschieden das Album noch mal zu remastern. Dabei wurden drei Songs komplett neu aufgenommen, um das Album noch mal angemessen in einer Deluxe Edition entsprechend zu würdigen. Denn es ist echt stark, inklusive der aussagekräftigen Geschichte um Kämpfe gegen Tyrannen, die manchmal nicht so eindimensional sind wie es zunächst den Anschein hat.

Kommentar OSYRON:

Eine Wiederveröffentlichung war nie auf unserem Radar und definitiv nichts, was wir vorher für ein so langes und umfangreiches Album in Betracht gezogen haben. Wir hatten jedoch das Gefühl, dass dieses Album eine ordentliche Veröffentlichung in unseren Zielmärkten gebrauchen könnte. Und wir hatten während der Pandemie viel Zeit, um zu versuchen, ihm neues Leben einzuhauchen. So machten wir uns daran, das gesamte Album zu remixen und neu zu mastern. Zusammen mit der Neuaufnahme von 3 Songs in neu arrangierter Form als Singles. Diese drei Songs wurden aufgrund ihrer Live-Rezeption, unserer persönlichen Verbindung zu ihnen oder des Potenzials, das wir in der Neuarrangierung sahen, ausgewählt. Wir freuen uns sehr darauf, all diese Songs in einem hochwertigeren Mix für euch zu veröffentlichen, aber am meisten freuen wir uns darauf, Euch diese neuen Versionen einiger unserer „Klassiker“ zu präsentieren

Hohe Kunst

OSYRON spielen progressiven Power Metal, auch gerne mal mit symphonischen Elementen verstärkt. Dabei zeichnet OSYRON ein exzellentes Soundwriting aus und eine erstklassige technische bzw. handwerkliche Umsetzung. Und diese Eigenschaften offenbaren sich bereits bei „Kingsbane“. Außer dem Intro geht kein Song unter fünf Minuten vorüber, so dass man bei „Kingsbane“ auf eine Gesamtspielzeit von 72 Minuten kommt. Es würde also den Rahmen sprengen, wenn ich hier jeden einzelnen Song besprechen würde. Beschränken wir uns daher auf eine einzelne ausgewählte Begutachtungen.

VIPER QUEEN

ist ein Song, der in der Originalfassung und in einer neuen Version auf „Kingsbane“ vertreten ist. „Viper Queen“ ist nun kein progressiver Song, sondern eher ein geradliniges rockiges Power-Metal-Brett. Somit stellt es eine Ausnahme auf dem Album dar. Trotzdem zeigt der Songs ebenfalls auf beachtliche Weise die Fertigkeiten der einzelnen Bandmitglieder. OSYRON hat den Song aus einem bestimmten Grund ausgewählt. Und den erläutern sie hier:

„Viper Queen“ hatte sich eigentlich immer wie der „Sonderling“ auf dem Album angefühlt, besonders stilistisch. Alle anderen Songs haben Abschnitte, die sich von Song zu Song wiederholen, oder Motive, die sich wiederholen, und alle anderen Songs haben einen Abschnitt, der als Teil des Intro-Stücks (From Ashes) fungiert. „Viper Queen“ fiel nie wirklich in die gleiche Kerbe und wurde nie als Single auf der ersten Veröffentlichung von „Kingsbane“ in Betracht gezogen. Dennoch kam es live sofort gut an. Die Leute liebten den Song absolut, und auch wir hatten das Gefühl, dass er besonders live eine gewisse Energie einfing, die bei der aufgenommenen Performance vielleicht fehlte.

Wir haben sogar Kommentare von Leuten erhalten, dass sie Viper Queen nicht wirklich verstanden haben, bis sie zu einer Show kamen und es live gesehen haben, deshalb wollten wir es für die Wiederveröffentlichung wirklich festnageln. Wir haben ihn neu arrangiert, um etwas von dem zu kürzen, was wir für überflüssig hielten, und wir haben das Tempo erhöht, um die „Live“-Intensität, die dem Song unserer Meinung nach fehlte, besser zu vermitteln!

Melodische Power

in Verbindung mit einer raffinierten Art monstermäßige epische Tracks zu komponieren ist das Markenzeichen von OSYRON. Dies haben sie schon auf „Kingsbane“ in phantastischer Art und Weise fabriziert.

hinreißen. Man kann nur staunen, mit welcher Detail- und Spielfreudigkeit die Geschichte musikalisch umgesetzt wird. Reed Alton ist ein begnadeter Sänger, der zugleich Gänsehautgefühl hervorzaubert und mit Kraft den Sound vorantreiben kann. Seine Kameraden stehen ihm in nichts nach und veredeln das Gesamtkonzept. Daher sind auch die teils sehr ausladenden Instrumentalparts inklusive atemberaubender Gitarrensolos fantastisch gespielt.

Der Titeltrack „Kingsbane“

demonstriert ebenfalls, wie man epische Hymnen komponiert. Ein sehr melodischer Song mit phantastischen Hooklines und allem was dazu gehört, inklusive sensationeller Solos. Ich kann mich nur wiederholen. OSYRON bieten ein einzigartiges Hörerlebnis und setzen die musikalischen Themen einwandfrei um. Echt stark! Zum Titeltrack gibt es noch ein aufwendiges authentisches Video. Es passt einfach alles!

Fazit

OSYRON sind absolute Hochkaräter und ihre Musik wird höchsten Ansprüchen gerecht. OSYRON spielen in der Topliga. „Kingsbane“ als Re-Release noch mal die Ehre zu erweisen, ist eine gute Entscheidung gewesen, denn es ist ein echt starkes herausragendes Album. Für Fans von progressivem Power-Metal ist „Kingsbane“ Pflichtprogramm.

from Canada by OSYRON (Facebook ). Faithful `metal-heads.de´ readers should actually already know OSYRON, because OSYRON have already been represented here at `metal-heads.de‘ very often. Why is that? Of course because they deserve it. It started with the EP „Foundations“ (Review ), which thrilled me last year. Just use the search function on our website and then you will learn a lot about the likeable and humorous group (Interview ).

OSYRON are highly professional and are masters of their business. „Kingsbane“ is actually the longplayer that preceded the EP „Foundations“ and was first released in 2017. OSYRON have now decided to remaster the album again. In addition, three songs were completely re-recorded in order to pay tribute to the really strong album in a deluxe edition.

OSYRON comments:

Doing a re-release was never on our radar before, and definitely not something we previously considered for such a long and fleshed out album. However, we felt that this album could do with a proper release in our target markets, and we had lots of time over the pandemic to try and breathe some new life into it. As such, we set out to remix and re-master the whole album, along with re-recording 3 songs in re-arranged states as singles. These three songs were picked based on their reception live, our personal connection to them, or the amount of potential we saw in re-arranging them. We’re super excited to get all these songs out for you in a higher quality mix, but we’re easily most excited to get you to hear these new takes on some of our “classics.

Sophistication

OSYRON play progressive power metal, sometimes with symphonic elements. OSYRON is characterized by an excellent sound writing and a first-class technical implementation. And these qualities reveal themselves already with „Kingsbane“. Except the intro no song goes a playing time under five minutes, so „Kingsbane“ comes with a total playing time of 72 minutes. So it would go beyond the scope if I would discuss every single song here. Therefore, let’s limit ourselves to a general review.

VIPER QUEEN

is a song that is represented in the original version and in a new version on „Kingsbane“. Okay, „Viper Queen“ is not a progressive song, but rather a straightforward rocking power metal song. Therfore this is an exception on the album. Nevertheless, the song also shows the skills of the individual band members in a remarkable way. OSYRON chose the song for a specific reason. And they explain it here:

Viper Queen“ had actually always felt like the “odd one” out on the album, especially stylistically. All of the other songs have sections that repeat from song to song, or motifs that reprise, and all the other songs have a section that acts as a part of the intro piece (From Ashes). Viper Queen never really fell into that same groove and was never considered as a single on the first release of „Kingsbane“. However, it immediately did well live. People absolutely loved the song, and even we felt that especially live it captured a certain energy that was maybe missed from the recorded performance.

We’ve even received comments from people about how they didn’t really get Viper Queen until they came to a show and watched it happen live, so to that end, we wanted to really nail it for the re-release. We re-arranged it to trim some of what we considered the fat, and we sped up the tempo to more accurately translate some of that “live” intensity we felt the song was missing!

Melodic power

in connection with a refined way to compose monster epic tracks is the trademark of OSYRON. They have already fabricated this in a fantastic way on „Kingsbane“. Here and there symphonic and even discreet folkloristic elements are still used to refine the sound.

Take for example the beautiful song „Razor’s Wind“. After a strong beginning, acoustic guitars can be heard at first. In addition, flattering symphonic and folkloric sounds that are very conducive to the atmosphere. Vocals of Reed Alton here as always of the very best and with a lot of feeling and later with much energy. The song increases in intensity and the lush drums and vital riffs give the song power. The initial theme is taken up again and again, so that it is a round thing. Even the raging lightning attack with blastbeats and a slamming guitar solo fits in seamlessly and

leaves me amazed.

One can only marvel at the level of detail and playfulness with which the story is musically realized. Reed Alton is a gifted singer, who at the same time conjures up goosebumps and can drive the sound with power. His comrades are in no way inferior to him and ennoble the overall concept. Therefore, the partly very expansive instrumental parts including breathtaking guitar solos are also fantastically played.

The title track „Kingsbane“

also demonstrates how to compose epic anthems. A very melodic song with fantastic hooklines and everything that goes with it, including sensational solos. I can only repeat myself. OSYRON offer a unique listening experience and execute the musical themes flawlessly. A great experience! There is also an elaborate authentic video for the title track. Everything just fits!

has been on the market fresh since 10.07.2020. If you are into sophisticated symphonic metal with depth of content, you have to listen to OSYRON. The work „Foundations“ was already presented by me in a detailed review. I was enthusiastic about the epic album and wanted to know more about it. The Canadians did me the honour of answering my questions and it really turned out to be a very interesting interview. If you read it, you will agree with me that OSYRON really is a great band from which you can certainly expect a lot of good things in the future.

Interview with OSYRON

Hello guys, you released the really great album „Foundations“. It is not only excellently implemented musically, but also has an outstanding significance in terms of content. So the album deserves to be honored and learn more about it and about the men who created the album. Let´s start….

Canada

MH: If I would visit you, what three things would you show me first to bring your country closer to me?

Cody (Drums): Visiting this time of year normally, the first thing I would recommend is to check out the Calagary Stampede which is a massive outdoor show which brings together music, cuisine, and western tradition. This is the first year since the show began in 1923 that it has had to be cancelled, due to COVID.

Next, I’d point you out of the city, into the great expanses of the Canadian Rockies. For a sense of scale, the drive time for you to travel to a neighboring European country is about the distance we travel to go to into the mountains. There are provincial parks everywhere with amazing hiking trails, as well as massive areas known as Crown Land, where you can go camp, hunt, fish, off-road, and explore endless amounts of wilderness. Just watch out for the bears and the big cats!

And finally, I’d recommend you head back into the downtown core of a major city like Calgary or Vancouver and explore the many pubs, music clubs and restaurants. Not only is there an absolute melting pot of different world cuisine and beer to be had, but also a very diverse selection of underground music to be heard. Of course, right now a lot of this is not possible as well due to the lockdowns.

Nature And Wilderness

MH: Canada stands for great landscapes and endless wild nature. What kind of connection do you have to nature and wilderness and what role does it play for you?

Cody (Drums): Being from Alberta means you would die if not for going camping, hiking, and shooting. Here in Alberta, camping is a major economic machine in the summer, followed by hunting in the winter. We have provincial and private campgrounds that are places setup for people to camp en masse. I personally think those are a joke. I prefer to go much further outinto the mountains than any campground, find a nice spot along a glacier creek and stay for a week to clear my head from city life! But I’m probably weird.

Ancestry and history

MH: Your album „Foundations“ deals with dark phases of history. Do you have ancestors in your family history who have experienced the First World War? Does any of you have Native Canadian ancestors?

Cody(Drums): My Canadian heritage only goes as far back as WW2, where I had a grandfather who fought in the Canadian Forces during the liberation of Holland. He was a forward operative working in maintaining the British armoured vehicles fighting against the German Panzer divisions, so the war stories I heard from him before he passed were very real and graphic.
Prior to that, my ancestors are known to be mostly from England, Scotland, and Ukraine; but I do have one grandparent who is Native American.

Reed (Vocals): I am of Metis descent on my Mother’s side. As far as WW1, I don’t believe I have any immediate connection in my lineage. Only WW2.

Krzysztof (Guitar): A great grandfather of mine was conscripted to fight in WW1 but spent much of the war avoiding shooting anything and trying not to die from trench-foot and a host of other shitty diseases you get from mucking about in mud and dead bodies. It affected him so negatively that in the time between the world wars he did everything in his power to dissuade all of his sons from serving in the army in any capacity. Of course, being that he happened to be a Pole living in Poland, he didn’t really have much of a say at the end of the day because war came for him anyway.

Significant dates

MH: Your first two songs, „The Cross“ and „Ignite“, deal with the colonization of Canada and the First World War. Why did you choose these two historical events? How did you come up with the idea to work out the history of Canada in this form?

Reed (Vocals): Both events play a crucial role in how Canada as a nation was formed. We are (like many other nations) built upon war, expansion, colonization and unfortunately genocide.
We felt it was important to have content that touched on both the European involvement of our country (Pre-Independence / Sovereignty) and the mistreatment of the First Peoples of North America.

Musical concept

MH: These two songs have become very bombastic symphonic and sometimes have a threatening and also accusing effect? Was that your intention?

Bobby (Guitar): For “The Cross”, we wanted a song that was pretty simple to play, but soundedhuge. If you listen to each instrument separately, they’re never really doing anything too technical. This was to allow Reed, and especially the orchestra, to really shine through and let those layers become apparent. We wanted the main orchestral melody of the song to build up during the verses, and then go full out during the outro after that last chorus.

Krzysztof (Guitar): From a musical standpoint “Ignite” was just something I fingered out on the guitar one day. It started with the chorus riff (“You wanted to speak” etc) and the middle instrumental section (the harmonized guitar/lead section after the big orchestra infused bridge). Everything in between those two points was developed after the fact to build into them unconsciously. In short, I woke up with this wonderful doughnut dropped in my lap and I had to figure out what fruit filling was best to smash into it.

Reed (Vocals): “Ignite” was Kris’s idea and his riffs. It ended up being aggressive and technical, which in turn was a parallel to “The Cross” and how it was aggressive and more simplified instrumentally.

Religion–a good thing?

MH: „The Cross“ is also about religion. You deliberately chose the symbol of the Christianfaith in this song. In this context, you are critical of the Christian faith. Do you see religion in general critical or only specific if, as then, it is a cover for the capture of a
country?

Reed (Vocals): Good question. People have the freedom to believe in and practice whatever religion they so choose in Canada…in 2020. However this was NOT the case in the 1500’s, 1600’s and even until the 20th century. If the global powers of France, and England practiced Islam, or Buddism and inflicted cultural, spiritual genocide on the First Nations of Canada during this time, then the song would be critical of those beliefs. It is only critical of the period in which these events occurred. As well as how these beliefs and religion were forced upon people who maybe didn’t seek it’s practices. This is not so much a criticism of the religion itself, but more a criticism on how the church was used and implemented within the colonization of the nation.

Polish folk music

MH: „Ignite“ also includes oriental sounds? This surprised me in view of the issue. How did you come up with this idea?

Krzysztof (Guitar): So being a child immigrant to Canada (if my name wasn’t a dead giveaway haha) I grew up in a household that regularly listened to lots of folk music from back home (Poland).
This kind of music has this sort of weird feel; and it naturally drew me to guys like Friedman, Becker, Yngwie and other “neo classical” shredders, but it also drew me into guys like Django Reinhardt, and more purely Parisian swing/eastern european folk which is just riddled with this stuff. This particular section is basically that music manifesting itself through me.

For professional musicians

Although I consciously don’t think of the theory behind it, the whole section resides in the 5th mode of F Harmonic Minor, or the “dreaded” Phrygian Dominant mode (with just the 6th degreebeing raised and lowered if you want to be super technical).

After I wrote it and analysed it, when putting up a quick demo of it on my instagram i even titled the post “phrygian come at me bro” cause I’m a huge fucking nerd like that. I think theory is a great, great tool to know because it helps understand why certain sounds make you feel the way they do or why they sound the way they do. It’s fun to look at and analyse music with that lens after you’ve written it, just to nerd out. But it’s definitely not something I consciously think about when writing. Anyways, I’ll grab you a coffee cause I’m sure this put you to sleep.

Heroes and visions

MH: „Battle Of The Thames“ is a very soulful song that contains grief. Nevertheless, it is a powerful song that just ends up becoming a heroic epic. A worthy song for this extraordinary venerable man. TECUMSEH was truly a great visionary and an even a greater hero. Do you think such heroes still exist today?

Reed (Vocals): Yes, you’re chatting with them right now! All jokes aside, heroes rise during moments of despair, and grief. Tecumseh was fighting for what he and his people believed in. That is where true heroes are born. Today? Maybe not in parts of the world that are prospering, but maybe in nations and communities that are in less fortunate circumstances. I hope there are heroes like that today. We will always need them!

Not forgetting

MH: „Foundations“ is dedicated to a global message. Unfortunately, the entire history of mankind is marked by many wars and other atrocities. You have a clear message that you must not forget everything so that you can shape the future better. Are these
kinds of visions even feasible when you look at the current situation of the world?

Reed (Vocals): The day we forget, or stop caring about a better, brighter future, is the day mankind has nothing else to stand for. We must always remind ourselves about our wrongdoings, while focusing on tomorrow and how we can make it a better place! Never stop growing! Humans and our societies have a long way to go still! So don’t stop!

Shake things up

MH: So let´s talk about „The Ones Below“. The song also deals with serious themes, but it is different in its kind than the other songs. It is not symphonic, but more rocky and sounds rather combative. Why did you choose this concept at „The Ones Below“?

Bobby (Guitar): Musically, that song was written to be a little more traditional (in the sense of structure, traditional solo, repeated choruses, etc.) and stripped down. Osyron songs tend to be filled with multiple layers of guitars, vocals, orchestral instruments, non-repeating sections, always progressing forward, and so on. While this song definitely isn’t “light” on the number of tracks, in the studio we wanted this song to stand out a bit, and to shake things up, so hopefully we achieved that.

Beer

MH: I do not know what answers you gave to my first question. So I want to close the circle and ask if there is delicious beer in Canada? Which is your favorite? What is the comparison to German beer?

Bobby (Guitar): My favourite Canadian beer would probably be Alexander Keith’s IPA, or Guinness. There’s also a Bavarian Lager made in BC called 1516 that is pretty damn cute as well.

Reed (Vocals): Sleemans Honey Ale, Big Rock Traditional, and Granville Island’s Winter Ale. Unfreakin’-real bud.

Cody (Drums): I dunno man, I’m into anything that is well made and tastes like real beer. None of the fruity stuff from micro-breweries really appeals to me personally. I’m more the kind of guy who will sit down in a brew house and order their house brand IPA or lager. If it’s good, I’ll order another.

Krzysztof (Guitar): I’ve only tried a few imported German beers, unfortunately, but let’s just say Alberta has a burgeoning craft beer market. We’ve got something like 125 craft breweries, and only 19 cities in the province. You’ll have to come here and just try them! We’ve got brewers making pilsners, ales, IPAs, stouts, whatever flavour you like! Just temper your expectations and remember, you guys have been making beer there for like 1500+ years, we’ve only been making it for a fraction of that time but it’s a culture/industry that’s growing and expanding every year. ist seit dem 10.07.2020 ganz frisch auf dem Markt. Wer auf anspruchsvollen symphonischen Metal mit inhaltlichem Tiefgang steht, der muss sich OSYRON anhören. Das Werk „Foundations“ wurde von mir bereits in einer ausführlichen Review vorgestellt (siehe hier). Ich war begeistert von dem epischen Album und wollte unbedingt mehr darüber wissen. Die Kanadier haben mir die Ehre erwiesen sich meinen Fragen zu stellen und es ist wahrlich ein sehr interessantes Interview geworden. Wenn Ihr es gelesen habt, dann werdet Ihr mir beipflichten, dass OSYRON wirklich eine tolle Truppe ist, von der man in Zukunft sicherlich noch viel Gutes erwarten darf.

Das Interview mit OSYRON

Hallo Jungs, Ihr habt das wirklich tolle Album „Foundations“ veröffentlicht. Es ist nicht nur musikalisch hervorragend umgesetzt, sondern hat auch inhaltlich eine herausragende Bedeutung. Das Album hat es also verdient geehrt zu werden und mehr darüber zu erfahren, genauso wie über die Männer, die das Album erschaffen haben. Fangen wir an….

Die Nation Kanada

MH: Wenn ich Euch besuchen würde, welche drei Dinge würdet Ihr mir zuerst zeigen, um mir Euer Land näher zu bringen?

Cody (Drums): Wenn man uns zu dieser Jahreszeit unter normalen Umständen besuchen würde, würde ich als erstes die Calgary Stampede besuchen. Dies ist eine riesige Outdoor-Show, die Musik, Küche und westliche Tradition vereint. Es ist das erste Jahr seit Beginn der Show im Jahr 1923, dass sie wegen COVID abgesagt werden musste.

Als nächstes würde ich Dich aus der Stadt in die großen Weiten der kanadischen Rockies führen. Um ein Gefühl für den Maßstab zu bekommen, muss man sich vorstellen, dass die für Euch benötigte Zeit in ein benachbartes europäisches Land zu reisen mit der zu vergleichen ist, die wir benötigen, um in die Berge zu reisen. Es gibt überall Provinzparks mit erstaunlichen Wanderwegen, sowie riesige Gebiete bekannt als Crown Land, wo man campen, jagen, fischen, querfeldein gehen und so die endlose Wildnis erkunden kann. Achtet dabei einfach auf die Bären und die großen Katzen!

Und schließlich würde ich Dir empfehlen, zurück in die City einer großen Stadt wie Calgary oder Vancouver zu gehen, um dort die vielen Pubs, Musikclubs und Restaurants zu erkunden. Es gibt nicht nur einen unerschöpflichen Schmelztiegel verschiedenster kulinarischer Genüsse aus der ganzen Welt inklusive köstlicher Biersorten, sondern auch eine sehr vielfältige Auswahl an Underground-Musik zu hören. Natürlich ist vieles davon aufgrund der Sperrungen im Moment nicht so gut möglich.

Die Beziehung zur Natur

MH: Kanada steht für tolle Landschaften und endlose Wildnis? Welche Verbindung habt Ihr zur Natur und welche Rolle spielt sie für Euch?

Cody (Drums): Aus Alberta zu sein bedeutet, dass du sterben würdest, wenn du nicht zum Campen, Wandern und Schießen gehst. Hier in Alberta ist Camping eine wichtige Wirtschaftsmaschine im Sommer, gefolgt von der Jagd im Winter. Wir haben öffentliche und private Campingplätze, die dafür gemacht sind, dass dort viele Menschen campen können. Ich persönlich halte das für einen Witz. Ich ziehe es vor, viel weiter hinaus in die Berge zu gehen als jeder Campingplatz, finde einen schönen Platz entlang eines Gletscherbaches und bleibe eine Woche, um meinen Kopf vom Stadtleben zu befreien! Aber ich bin wahrscheinlich komisch.

Abstammung und Geschichte

MH:  Euer Album „Foundations“ beschäftigt sich mit dunklen Phasen der Geschichte. Habt Ihr Vorfahren in Eurer Familiengeschichte, die den Ersten Weltkrieg erlebt haben? Hat jemand von euch indianische Vorfahren?

Cody (Drums): Mein kanadisches Erbe reicht nur bis in den 2. Weltkrieg zurück, wo ich einen Großvater hatte, der während der Befreiung Hollands in den kanadischen Streitkräften kämpfte. Er war für die Wartung der britischen Panzerfahrzeuge zuständig, die gegen die deutschen Panzerdivisionen kämpften. Deshalb waren die Kriegsgeschichten, die ich von ihm hörte, bevor er von uns ging, sehr real und anschaulich. Vor dieser Zeit ist bekannt, dass meine Vorfahren hauptsächlich aus England, Schottland und der Ukraine stammen; aber jemand von meinen Großeltern ist Indianer.

Reed (Vocals): Von mütterlicher Seite gibt es eine Abstammungslinie zu den MÉTIS. Was den 1. Weltkrieg betrifft, glaube ich nicht, dass ich eine unmittelbare Verbindung in meiner Abstammung habe; nur den 2. Weltkrieg betreffend.

Krzysztof (Guitar): Ein Urgroßvater von mir wurde eingezogen, um im Ersten Weltkrieg zu kämpfen. Aber er verbrachte einen Großteil des Krieges damit irgendwie zu vermeiden auf jemanden zu schießen und versuchte nicht an dem „Grabenfuß“ oder einer Vielzahl anderer scheiß Krankheiten zu sterben, die man bekommt, wenn man in Schlamm und Leichen herumdümpelt. Es machte ihn so fertig, dass er in der Zeit zwischen den Weltkriegen alles in seiner Macht stehende tat, um alle seine Söhne davon abzuhalten, in irgendeiner Eigenschaft der Armee zu dienen. Natürlich konnte er es im Endeffekt nicht verhindern, als der nächste Krieg wieder unvermeidbar auf ihn zukam.

(„Grabenfuß“ war ein typische Krankheit im Ersten Weltkrieg und war eine Erkrankung des Fußes, welche durch den ständigen Aufenthalt in den feuchten Gräben entstand. Durch auftretende Infektionen konnte man daran sterben.–näheres hier)

Wichtige Ereignisse

MH: Eure ersten beiden Lieder, „The Cross“ und „Ignite“, befassen sich mit der Kolonisierung Kanadas und dem Ersten Weltkrieg. Warum habt Ihr Euch für diese beiden historischen Ereignisse entschieden? Wie seid Ihr auf die Idee gekommen, die Geschichte Kanadas in dieser Form zu aufzuarbeiten?

Reed (Vocals): Beide Ereignisse spielen eine entscheidende Rolle bei der Entstehung Kanadas als Nation. Wir sind (wie viele andere Nationen) auf Krieg, Expansion, Kolonisierung und leider Völkermord aufgebaut. Wir hielten es für wichtig, Inhalte zu haben, die sowohl das europäische Engagement unseres Landes (Unabhängigkeit/Souveränität) als auch die Misshandlung der ersten Völker Nordamerikas berühren.

Musikalisches Konzept

MH: Diese beiden o.g. Lieder sind sehr bombastisch symphonisch geworden und haben manchmal eine bedrohliche und auch anklagende Wirkung? War das Eure Absicht?

Bobby (Guitar): Für „The Cross“ wollten wir einen Song, der ziemlich einfach zu spielen, aber riesig klingen sollte. Wenn man sich jedes Instrument einzeln anhört, dann wirken diese tatsächlich nicht zu technisch. Dies sollte Reed und vor allem dem Orchester ermöglichen, wirklich durchzuscheinen und diese Schichten sichtbar werden zu lassen. Wir wollten, dass sich die Orchestermelodie des Liedes während der Verse aufbaut und dann während des Outro nach diesem letzten Chor voll aufgeht.

Krzysztof (Guitar): Musikalisch war „Ignite“ etwas, was ich eines Tages an der Gitarre zusammengefrickelt habe. Es begann mit dem Chorus Riff („You wanted to speak“ etc.) und dem mittleren Instrumentalteil (der harmonisierte Gitarren-/Leadteil nach der eingebauten Bridge mit dem großen Orchester). Alles dazwischen wurde mehr oder weniger unbewusst eingebaut. Kurz gesagt, ich wachte auf mit diesem wunderbaren Donut auf meinem Schoß und ich musste herausfinden, welche Fruchtfüllung am besten geeignet war, um das Ding vollzumachen.

Reed (Vocals): „Ignite“ war Kris‘ Idee und seine Riffs. Es endete aggressiv und technisch, was wiederum eine Parallele zu „The Cross“ war.

Religion – Eine gute Sache?

MH: „The Cross“ handelt auch von Religion. Ihr habt in diesem Lied bewusst das Symbol des christlichen Glaubens gewählt. In diesem Zusammenhang steht Ihr dem christlichen Glauben kritisch gegenüber. Seht Ihr Religion im allgemeinen kritisch oder nur spezifisch dann, wenn sie, wie damals, als Deckmantel für die Eroberung eines Landes dient?

Reed (Vocals): Gute Frage. Die Menschen haben die Freiheit, an jede Religion zu glauben und sie zu praktizieren, die sie in Kanada so wählen… im Jahr 2020!!! Dies war jedoch NICHT der Fall in den 1500er, 1600er Jahren und sogar bis ins 20. Jahrhundert hinein. Wenn die Weltmächte Frankreich und England während dieser Zeit den Islam oder den Buddhismus praktiziert hätten und den First Nations of Canada während dieser Zeit einen kulturellen, spirituellen Völkermord zugefügt hätten, dann wäre das Lied kritisch gegenüber diesen Überzeugungen. Die Kritik richtet sich lediglich an die Ereignisse, die in diesem Zeitraum aufgetreten sind. Genauso richtet sie sich gegen die Art und Weise wie diese Überzeugungen und Religionen den Menschen aufgezwungen wurden, die vielleicht nicht nach ihrem Verständnis und ihren Regeln lebten. Dies ist nicht so sehr eine Kritik an der Religion selbst, sondern eher eine Kritik daran, wie die Kirche innerhalb der Kolonisierung der Nation genutzt und umgesetzt wurde.  

Polnische Volksmusik

MH: „Ignite“ enthält auch orientalische Klänge? Das hat mich angesichts der Thematik überrascht. Wie seid Ihr auf diese Idee gekommen?

Krzysztof (Guitar): Als Einwandererkind (wenn mein Name kein bedeutungsloses Geschenk ist… haha)  kam ich nach Kanada und wuchs in einem Haushalt auf, der regelmäßig viel Volksmusik aus der Heimat (Polen) hörte. Diese Musik hat ihre ganz eigene sonderbare Ausstrahlung; und es zog mich natürlich zu Typen wie Friedman, Becker, Yngwie und anderen „neoklassischen“ Schreddern, aber es zog mich auch zu Typen wie Django Reinhardt und damit mehr zu reinrassigem Pariser Swing und Osteuropäischer Volksmusik, die gerade mit diesen speziellen Klängen gespickt ist.

Dieser spezielle Abschnitt ist im Grunde die Musik, die sich durch mich manifestiert. Obwohl ich bewusst nicht an die Theorie dahinter denke, befindet sich der ganze Abschnitt im 5. Modus von f Harmonic Minor, oder im „gefürchteten“ Phrygian Dominant-Modus ,wobei nur der 6. Grad angehoben und gesenkt wird, wenn man super technisch sein will. (Anm. d. Verfassers: ???????–Professionelle Musiker können damit wohl was anfangen.) Nachdem ich es geschrieben und analysiert hatte, habe ich beim Aufstellen einer schnellen Demo auf meinem Instagram-Account sogar den Beitrag „phrygian come at me bro“ betitelt, weil ich ein riesiger verdammter Nerd bin. Ich denke, Theorie ist ein großes, großartiges Werkzeug. Das Wissen hilft zu verstehen, warum bestimmte Sounds bestimmte Gefühle auslösen oder warum sie eben so klingen, wie sie es tun. Es macht Spaß, Musik aus diesem Blickwinkel zu betrachten und zu analysieren, nachdem du sie geschrieben hast, einfach nur um zu tüfteln. Aber es ist definitiv nicht etwas, worüber ich beim Schreiben bewusst nachdenke. Wie auch immer, ich hol Dir einen Kaffee, weil ich mir sicher bin, dass Dich das zum einschlafen gebracht hat.

Helden und Visionen

MH: „Battle Of The Thames“ ist ein sehr gefühlvoller, aber auch trauriger Song. Dennoch ist es ein ebenso kraftvoller Song, der am Ende zu einem heroischen Epos wird. Ein würdiges Lied für diesen außergewöhnlichen ehrwürdigen Mann. TECUMSEH war wirklich ein großer Visionär und ein noch größerer Held. Glaubt Ihr, dass es solche Helden heute noch gibt?

Reed (Vocals): Ja, Du schreibst gerade mit ihnen! Mal Witz beiseite…Helden erheben sich in Momenten der Verzweiflung, und Trauer. TECUMSEH kämpfte für das, woran er und sein Volk glaubten. Hier werden wahre Helden geboren. Heutzutage? Vielleicht nicht in Teilen der Welt, die gedeihen, sondern vielleicht in Nationen und Gemeinschaften, die sich in weniger glücklichen Verhältnissen befinden. Das Nichtvergessen

MH: „Foundations“ ist einer globalen Botschaft gewidmet. Leider ist die gesamte Geschichte der Menschheit von vielen Kriegen und anderen Greueltaten geprägt. Ihr habt eine klare Botschaft, dass wir nicht alles vergessen dürfen, damit wir die Zukunft besser gestalten können. Sind solche Visionen überhaupt machbar, wenn man sich die aktuelle Situation der Welt anschaut?

Reed (Vocals): Der Tag, an dem wir vergessen oder aufhören, uns um eine bessere, hellere Zukunft zu kümmern, ist der Tag, an dem die Menschheit nichts mehr besitzt, wofür sie einstehen kann. Wir müssen uns immer an unser Fehlverhalten erinnern, während wir uns auf morgen konzentrieren und wie wir es zu einem besseren Ort machen können! Hört nie auf zu wachsen und stärker zu werden! Die Menschen und unsere Gesellschaften haben noch einen langen Weg vor sich! Also nicht aufhören!

Dinge aufrütteln

MH: Also lasst uns über „The Ones Below“ sprechen. Das Lied beschäftigt sich auch mit ernsten Themen, aber es ist in seiner Art anders als die anderen Songs. Er ist nicht symphonisch, sondern rockiger und klingt eher kämpferisch. Warum habt Ihr Euch für dieses Konzept bei „The Ones Below“ entschieden?

Bobby (Guitar): Musikalisch wurde dieses Lied geschrieben, um ein wenig traditioneller zu sein (im Sinne von Struktur, traditionelles Solo, wiederholte Chöre, etc.) und es auf das nötigste zu reduzieren. OSYRON-Songs sind in der Regel mit mehreren Schichten von Gitarren, Gesang, Orchesterinstrumenten, sich-nicht-wiederholenden Abschnitten gefüllt, immer vorwärts, und so weiter…. Wir wollten, dass dieser Song ein wenig herausragt und die Dinge aufrüttelt, und das ist uns hoffentlich gelungen.

Bier

MH: Ich weiß nicht, welche Antworten Ihr auf meine erste Frage gegeben habt. Also möchte ich den Kreis schließen und fragen, ob es leckeres Bier in Kanada gibt? Welches ist Euer Favorit? Wie ist der Vergleich zu deutschem Bier?

Bobby (Gitarre): Mein Lieblingsbier aus Kanada wäre wahrscheinlich Alexander Keiths IPA oder Guinness. Es gibt auch ein bayerisches Lager aus dem Jahr 1516, das verdammt gut ist.

Reed (Vocals): Sleemans Honey Ale, Big Rock Traditional und Granville Island es Winter Ale. Un-freakin‘-echte Knospe.

Cody (Drums): Ich weiß nicht… ich bin für alles, was gut gemacht ist und wie echtes Bier schmeckt. Nichts von dem fruchtigen Zeug aus den Mikrobrauereien gefällt mir persönlich wirklich. Ich bin eher der Typ, der sich in ein Sudhaus setzen und ihre Hausmarke IPA oder Lager bestellen wird. Wenn es gut ist, bestelle ich weitere.

Krzysztof (Guitar): Ich habe leider nur ein paar importierte deutsche Biere ausprobiert, aber sagen wir mal.. Alberta hat einen aufkeimenden Craft-Bier-Markt. Wir haben etwa 125 Craft-Brauereien und nur 19 Städte in der Provinz. Du musst herkommen und sie einfach probieren! Wir haben Brauer für Pilsner, Ales, IPAs, Stouts, egal was Du geschmacklich bevorzugst. Mäßige Deine Erwartungen und denke daran, dass Ihr bei Euch Bier seit über 1500 Jahren braut. Wir machen es erst in einem Bruchteil dieser Zeit, aber es ist eine Kultur / Industrie, die jedes Jahr wächst und expandiert. Wenn Du mal kommst, dann  nehmen wir Dich mit und zeigen Dir die Zapfhähne.

The Canadian prog metalworkers OSYRON have taken a very serious issue and deal with painful historical events in the history of Canada. First we enter the timeline in the 18th century and at this time

the Assimiliation of the First Nations

(Indigenous people) are moving faster and more brutally. When advanced industrialized nations and military powers sent their ships on so-called voyages of discovery, nothing good came of it for the natives of undiscovered countries. Indigenous peoples were pushed back and/or oppressed to claim and colonize areas. This was done almost exclusively by force using modern weapons and therefore unfortunately always claimed many victims among the natives. With regard to this, OSYRON gives us an exciting history lesson not only thematically, but also acoustically. Canada has grown out of bloodsoaked soil as a nation.

OSYRON

reckons very ruthlessly and clearly with the theme of the colonization of Canada at that time, in which the English and French played a major role. But Canada is just one example of many of the brutal recklessness of the world’s great powers‘ brutal recklessness in discovering or conquering new countries. In this context, OSYRON distributes painful verbal blows to the Christian mission. It is made clear in the song that under the guise of the Christian faith in the name of God, the First Nations (indigenous people) was tried to convert. They said: „Take our culture and faith or die!„

„The Cross“

was chosen. This symphonic power track conveys a cinematic feeling, whereby it is already possible to create a threatening mood right at the initiation. Then the ground is shaked of powerful drums supported by a fat bass, which is accompanied by rough hard riffing. Every now and again a buoyant battle cry is heard to make the subject clear. The sound garment is orchestral and this becomes a realsymphonic metal epic song. The melody arc with the excellent vocals (in the above-quoted chorus) is fantastically successful in its epic appearance. Then a vocally and instrumentally angry aggressive part fits in, which makes it crack powerfully.
The spark is ignited and the following song

„Ignite“

continues historiography with equal rigour. However, we are in the 19th century, more precisely in the First World War. Here we are reminded of the futility and merciless brutality of the war. The arrogance of high-ranking military and political leaders with their
misjudgments led to one of the bloodiest and most lossy, but also most senseless, battles of the First World War. It was the Battle of Passendale in November 1917. During this battle and the months-long battles before it, thousands of soldiers lost their lives, including many Canadian soldiers (about 16,000).
Musically, the song „Ignite“ performs with a very dense atmosphere. The riffs and the grippy bass in combination with the powerful drums lead to an insanely voluminous sound. Here, the battle cry, which was already used in the first song, is also used in places. The song has the most progressive touch on the album and comes out from minute 02:44 even with oriental-looking sounds and this has a great special feature factor.

Indian legend Tecumseh

We are in the year 1813. It is about the Battle of the Thames River, in which the Americans waged war against an English/Indian alliance. The visionary Tecumseh was a respected chief of the Shawnee tribe. His dream was an independent North America in which Indians and settlers could live together in peace. He tried again and again to unite all the Native American tribes in order to defend themselves against the Americans who wanted to conquer the country. He had never been able to achieve this goal completely. In the end, he was even let down by the British army and the Indians suffered a devastating defeat. In this battle, Tecumseh also lost his life. His courageous determination is still legendary to this day.

„Battle Of Thames“

is an atmospheric track full of feeling and it carries a certain sadness at the beginning. It begins quietly with acoustic guitar and vocals. In the further course, perfectly tuned drums join in. Every now and then the sounds of an electric guitar resound through. Before the furious finale, the singer gives up with a powerful voice together with choral singing in the form of „Ohhhoooohooo“ Indian heroic feeling. Fabulous guitar solos are followed and the song becomes a powerful epic homage to the fighting spirit and courage of the Indians.

„The Ones Below“

takes up the issue of loss and grief. However, the song musically processes the theme with feisty riffs and rocky attitude. Together with the powerful vocals, Song becomes a battle cry against grief. „Positive thinking“ is required here. One should love and live his life and bury his sorrows and fears in honor of those who have left us.

„Foundations“

presents the opulent title track at the end of the album. This can boast beautiful filigree acoustic guitars with a quiet and fascinating beginning. Gradually, the song gains strength until the electric guitar finally sets the tone. The epic finale ends the brilliant album. In this case, the content of the song has an ever-constant topicality. In doing so, OSYRON denounces the grievances and injustices in the world and demonizes the impotence with which one faces all this suffering. We must not forget the crimes of the past. So we must continue to stand in the way of injustice and hatred!

Conclusion

OSYRON dress serious themes in impressive high-quality sound robes. In addition to the appealing listening pleasure, one should actually deal with the textual content, because OSYRON has an important message! The music is as described very first cream and so Foundations is rewarded with 9/10 Points.
