Es ist noch gar nicht so lange her, da hat das Trio S.O.R.M (Facebook) aus Schweden ihr Debütalbum „Under My Skin“ veröffentlicht. (Review). Alle Songs haben einen persönlichen Bezug für Sänger Micke Holm, doch „Under My Skin“ nimmt dabei noch mal eine besondere Rolle ein. Es ist auch keine Geheimnis, dass die Band und insbesondere Micke große Fans von der Band W.A.S.P. sind. Dazu hat er unter anderem in einem unserer Interviews etwas erzählt (Interview).

Zuerst war es so, dass ich den Mutant Twin von Doug bekommen habe. Daraus wuchs eine echte Freundschaft. Und jetzt bin ich der Einzige in dieser beschissenen Welt, der seine Erlaubnis hat, sein Markenzeichen auf meinen Gitarren zu verwenden (das Sägeblatt). Doug ist der freundlichste und bescheidenste Prominente, mit dem ich je gesprochen habe. Ein echter Gentleman.

So verwundert es nicht, dass Doug gerade bei dem Song Under My Skin“ seine Finger bzw. Gitarre im Spiel hat.

Ich bin sehr stolz auf eine Zusammenarbeit, die bereits vor 2 Jahren begann, als Micke Holm mich fragte, ob ich einen Lead-Song zu einem Stück beisteuern würde, das seine Band S.O.R.M. aufnahm. Ich hatte Micke kennengelernt, nachdem er die allerletzte unverkaufte 1990er BLAIR MUTANT TWIN Doppelhals-Akustik/Elektrik-Gitarre gekauft hatte, die ich zu seinem Freund in Stockholm brachte. Seitdem sind wir ein paar Mal zusammen aufgetreten, in Schweden und Finnland, als Duo und mit der S.O.R.M Band. Es war großartig, die Jungs kennenzulernen und ein wenig an ihrer Entwicklung beteiligt zu sein!

Nachdem ich zunächst vorsichtig zugestimmt hatte, mir einen Song anzuhören (ich bin von Natur aus immer skeptisch), hat mich „Under My Skin“ auf Anhieb begeistert! Mickes Gesang, der Text und die Dynamik des Arrangements haben mich dazu gebracht, etwas Cooles für den emotionalen Soloteil zu entwickeln. Letztes Jahr fanden wir endlich Zeit, uns in Stockholm zu treffen und den Song abzumischen – da ich ein paar effektive Ideen für das Gesamtarrangement und die Dynamik gewünscht (und vorgeführt) hatte, von denen ich dachte, dass sie das Ergebnis verbessern würden! Wenn ihr meine Leads auf „Heaven’s Hung“, „Miss You“, etc. mögt, werdet ihr diesen Song und dieses Lead mögen! Hört euch die Jungs mal an, und bald werde ich wieder einen Auftritt mit Micke ankündigen!

Diese Version von „Under My Skin“ war die ursprüngliche Version des Songs von Anfang an. Sie sollte eigentlich auf dem Album sein, wurde aber leider nicht rechtzeitig fertig. Deshalb haben wir eine Klavierversion für die Platte gemacht. It wasn’t so long ago that the trio S.O.R.M (Facebook) from Sweden released their debut album „Under My Skin“. (Review). All the songs have a personal connection for singer Micke Holm, but „Under My Skin“ takes on a special role. It’s no secret that the band and Micke in particular are big fans of the band W.A.S.P.. He talked about this in one of our interviews (Interview).

At first it was me bying the Mutant Twin from him. Then a real frienship grew. And now I’m the only one in this fucked up world that has his approvel to use his trade mark on my guitars (the blade). Doug is the most kind and humbled celebrety Ihave ever spoken to. A real gentlemen.

I am very proud of a collaboration that began already 2 years ago, when Micke Holm asked if I’d contribute a lead to a track being recorded by his band S.O.R.M.  I’d met Micke a while after he purchased the very last unsold 1990s BLAIR MUTANT TWIN double neck acoustic/electric guitar, which I delivered to his colleague in Stockholm. We’ve performed together quite a few times since then, in Sweden and Finland, as a duo and with the S.O.R.M Band. It’s been great to know the guys, and be involved a bit in their growth!

Cautiously agreeing to take a listen to a song (always being naturally skeptical), ‚Under My Skin‘ enthralled on first listen! Micke’s vocal delivery, the lyrics and dynamics of the arrangement all made me PUMPED UP to craft something cool for the emotional solo section. Last year, we finally found time to meet and mix the song in Stockholm – as I had requested (and demoed) a few effective overall arrangement/dynamics ideas, which I thought would improve the results! This version of ‚Under My Skin‘ was the original version of the song from the beginning. It was meant to be on the album but unfortunately was not finished in time. That’s why we did a piano version for the record. In this power ballad version, we have the honor to work with Doug Blair from the legendary W.A.S.P and Anna Brygård from The Nightflight Orchestra..

Under My Skin is a very personal song to Micke. It’s about him battling with depression and suicidal anxiety for many years. And it’s also a reminder to all you who have anxiety or know someone who has, that you’re not alone! We are all brothers and sisters battling the same war!

Ende 2020 hatte das Trio S.O.R.M (Facebook) ihre EP „Hellraiser“ über das Label Noble Demon (Facebook/Homepage) veröffentlicht. Mich konnte der Sound damals auf Anhieb völlig überzeugen. Nicht zuletzt lag es daran, dass mich die Stimme von Sänger Micke Holm sofort an die Band W.A.S.P erinnerte, wo Blackie Lawless seit jeher am Mikro steht. Ich empfinde die Stimme von Micke aber noch kraftvoller. Diese Kraft in der Stimme kommt sowohl den starken rockigen Songs zugute, als auch in gefühlvollen Momenten. Davon konnte ich mich auch bereits live überzeugen, als ich die Band in Bochum als Support von THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA erleben durfte.

„Mein lieber Scholli!“

dachte ich so bei mir, als S.O.R.M dort die ersten Töne raushaute. Das klang noch mal ne Spur härter als auf dem Album. Jedenfalls war das Publikum schon nach kurzer Zeit vom Rock ’n Roll by S.O.R.M in Brand gesetzt. Die Leute waren Feuer und Flamme und die Stimmung war heiß!

Das neue Album „Under My Skin“

Lange haben wir warten müssen. Aber endlich am 25. August wird es erscheinen.

Um den Bogen zur ersten EP „Hellraiser“ zu spannen, leitet der Song „Hellride“ das neue Album ein. Damit bin ich sofort wieder im S.O.R.M Fieber, denn es ist ein typischer krachender S.O.R.M-Song im Stil von beispielsweise „Gypsy Queen“. Die fetten Riffs und diese geniale Stimme sind einfach unverwechselbar und versetzen mich umgehend in den Rockmodus. „Hellride“ ist ein schnörkelloser Song, der mit nichts mehr als durch seine „Einfachheit“ super unterhalten kann. Manchmal braucht es nicht mehr!

Etwas düster

waren S.O.R.M schon immer angehaucht. „Shotgun Jonny“ ist ein Beispeil dafür. Mit schleichender Düsternis beginnt es und der schwere Bass von Johan verpasst der Stimmung eine zusätzliche Schwere, die aber plötzlich im Refrain durch eine flotte Temposteigerung weggeblasen wird. So entsteht ein Wechselspiel der Stimmungen. Wie ich bereits oben erwähnte, kann Sänger Micke auch in ruhigeren Parts mit viel Kraft und Ausdruck in der Stimme überzeugen. Er hat einfach eine grandiose Stimme. Sehr cool finde ich das Gitarrensolo mit dem anschließenden Drumpart von Robin, was den furiosen Endspurt von „Shotgun Jonny“ einleitet.

Der Titel „Dark World“ spricht quasi schon für sich selbst und ist eine sehr melancholische nachdenkliche Ballade, die aber auch ihre kräftigen Ausbrüche hat und vor allem zum Ende ordentlich an Vehemenz zulegt.

S.O.R.M stehen aber auch für Party

Die Band kann ebenso megamäßig abfeiern. Dafür gibt es beispielsweise so einen spritzigen puren Rock ’n Roller wie „Too Hot For Your Love“, der sofort für gute Stimmung sorgt und garantiert jede Party in Schwung bringt. Mit so einem Song kann man bei mir immer landen! Für so einen Song kann man mich auch nachts um drei Uhr wecken! Puls von 60 auf 160 gar kein Problem.

Und wenn die Stimmung dann schon mal richtig aufgeheizt ist, dann ist so eine Hymne wie „I Die For My Rock ’n‘ Roll“ genau das richtige, um den Puls und die Stimmung oben zu halten. Kein Geringerer als Gitarrist Nick Petrino, der sonst für DEE SNIDER die Saiten zupft, steuert hier ein superbes Gitarrensolo bei. Der Song ist super catchy und versprüht eine überirdische Dosis purer guter Laune.

„Crazy“

sind die Jungs auf jeden Fall, aber wie ich oben schon erwähnte, packen sie in ihren Songs auch ernste Themen an. Zwei Songs auf dem Album gehören zusammen. Das wären „Demon Child“ und „Crazy“. Zwei astreine mitreißende Heavy Rock Songs, die wieder sehr an die legendäre Band W.A.S.P. erinnern, nur halt in der modernen Variante. Der Song „Demon Child“ wurde schon vor vier Jahren als Single veröffentlicht. Für das Album wurde er noch mal neu eingespielt und klingt noch satter und druckvoller als in dem alten Video. Trotzdem werden hier beide Videos präsentiert, um die Geschichte der Songs vollständig zu erzählen. Für das „Crazy“ konnte sogar die gleiche Darstellerin gewonnen werden.

„Crazy“ ist Teil 2 unserer Single „Demon Child“ (2019). Und die ganze Geschichte handelt davon, wie sich deine Vergangenheit auf dein zukünftiges Leben auswirken kann und dass es eine Geschichte hinter dem Verhalten jeder Person gibt und dass du dieser Person helfen kannst, indem du ihr einfach nur dein Ohr leihst, wenn du dir Zeit nimmst und zuhörst, wenn dein Freund oder Partner reden möchte. Hört euch ihre Geschichte an, bevor ihr urteilt.

„Under My Skin“

ist ein nicht nur besonders, weil es der Titeltrack des Albums ist, sondern bedeutet auch für Sänger Micke Holm eine ganze Menge. Es ist DIE Ballade des Albums und sorgt für Gänsehaut. Der Song legt den Fokus ganz auf Sänger Micke, der all seine Emotionen in den Song bringt und hier gesanglich ein Glanzstück hinlegt. Denn es geht um nichts weniger als die musikalische Verarbeitung von belastenden persönlichen Situationen, die Micke selber mit schweren Deppressionen durchlebt hat. Im Laufe des Songs steigt Mickes Freundin, Sängerin Anna Brygård (The Night Flight Orchestra) mit ein und es wird dadurch sogar noch emotionaler. Ein ergreifender Song!

Jetzt würde man erwarten, dass „Under My Skin“ das Album sanft und gefühlvoll beenden würde, doch dem ist nicht so.„Crash And Burn“ überrascht dann doch noch mit einem sehr harten Abgang. Der Song mixt noch mal alles schön zusammen und offenbart zusätzlich, dass S.O.R.M auch ne richtig harte Schiene fahren können. Es ist eine Facette des Sounds, die ich sehr interessant finde und zeigt, dass S.O.R.M songtechnisch sehr breit aufgestellt sind. So darf man sehr gespannt sein, was zukünftig noch alles kommen wird. Das Trio ist wunderbar und toll aufeinander eingespielt. Davon konnte ich mich live bereits überzeugen. Das Ende des Songs erinnert mich übrigens gesanglich sogar an den Song „Child In Time“ von DEEP PURPLE, auch wenn dieser einen ganz anderen Stil besitzt. Aber vergleicht mal selber die Screams in den Songs!

Fazit

S.O.R.M schicken mit „Under My Skin“ ein astreines Heavy Rock Album ins Rennen. Es ist ein „Hellride“, der auch mal „Under The Skin“ geht. Es wird beste Unterhaltung geboten. S.O.R.M zeigen dabei verschiedene Facetten und haben dabei ihren ganz eigenen charakteristischen Sound, der sie von der Masse abhebt. Die grandiose Stimme von Micke Holm ist ohnehin unverwechselbar. Die satte Produktion gibt den Songs den letzten starken Schliff und lässt keine Wünsche offen. Also Leute….

At the end of 2020 the trio S.O.R.M (Facebook) had released their EP „Hellraiser“ via the label Noble Demon (Facebook/Homepage). At that time, the sound could completely convince me right away. Not least it was because the voice of singer Micke Holm immediately reminded me of the band W.A.S.P, where Blackie Lawless is the master on the mic. However, I feel that Micke’s voice is even more powerful. This power in the voice benefits both the strong rock songs, as well as in emotional moments. I could already convince myself of this live at concert, when I was able to experience the band in Bochum as support for THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA.

„What a hellride!“…

I thought to myself, when S.O.R.M rushed out the first notes. It sounded even a bit harder than on the album. Anyway, after a short time the audience was set on fire by the Rock ’n Roll by S.O.R.M.. The people were on fire and the atmosphere was hot!

UNDER MY SKIN

is the name of the current album, for which we had to wait so long, but which will finally be released on August 25.

To revive memories of the debut EP „Hellraiser“, the song „Hellride“ introduces the new album. With this I am immediately back in S.O.R.M fever, because it is a typical cracking S.O.R.M song in the style of „Gypsy Queen“. The fat riffs and this ingenious voice are simply unmistakable and immediately strike me with pure rock feelings. „Hellride“ is a straight song without much gimmicks. It is super entertaining with nothing more than its „simplicity“. Sometimes it doesn’t need more!

A bit gloomy

S.O.R.M. have always been. „Shotgun Jonny“ is an example of this. It starts with creeping gloom and the heavy bass of Johan gives an additional heaviness to the whole thing. But the somber slowness is suddenly blown away in the chorus by a brisk increase in tempo. This song creates an interplay of moods. As I mentioned above, singer Micke can also convince in calmer parts with a lot of power and expression in his voice. He has an outstanding voice. Very cool I find the guitar solo with the subsequent drum part of Robin, which introduces the furious final spurt of „Shotgun Jonny“.

The title of the song „Dark World“ speaks for itself and is a very melancholic, thoughtful ballad, which also has its powerful outbursts and especially at the end increases in vehemence.

But S.O.R.M also stands for party

The guys can also rock a party for sure. Listen to such a lively pure rock ’n roller like „Too Hot For Your Love“, that makes you party at once. With such a song you can always thrill me! You can even wake me up at three in the morning for a song like this! Pulse from 60 to 160… no problem!

And if the mood is already really heated up, then a hymn like „I Die For My Rock ’n‘ Roll“ is just the right thing to keep the pulse and the party. None other than guitarist Nick Petrino, who usually plucks the strings for DEE SNIDER, contributes a great guitar solo here. The song is super catchy and sprays an unearthly dose of pure joy.

„Crazy“

the guys definitely are, but as I mentioned above, they also tackle serious topics in their songs. Two songs on the album belong together. That would be „Demon Child“ and „Crazy“. Two real rousing heavy rock songs, which again remind me of the legendary band W.A.S.P., only in modern. The song „Demon Child“ was already released as a single four years ago. For the album it was re-recorded and sounds even richer and more powerful than in the old video. Nevertheless, both videos are presented here to tell the story of the songs completely. For the second video even the same actress take place.

„Crazy“ is a part 2 of our single ‚Demon Child‘ (2019). And the whole story is how your past can impact on your life in the future and that there’s a story behind every person’s behavior and also, if you just take time to listen when your friend our partner need to talk, you can help that person by just lending them your ear. ‚Hear their story before you judge!‘

„Under My Skin“

is a special song not only because it is the title track of the album, but also means a lot to singer Micke Holm. It is THE ballad of the album and gives you goosebumps. This very personal song puts the focus entirely on singer Micke, who brings all his emotions into the song. It is a gem. Because it is about nothing less than the musical processing of serious personal situations that Micke himself has gone through with severe depression. In the course of the song Micke’s girlfriend, singer Anna Brygård (The Night Flight Orchestra) joins in and it becomes even more emotional. A touching song!

Now you would expect that „Under My Skin“ would end the album softly and soulfully, but that’s not the case. „Crash And Burn“ surprises with a very hard finish. The song throws everything in the fire and also reveals that S.O.R.M. can also punch a really hard track. It is a facet of the sound that I find very interesting and shows that S.O.R.M. are very broadly positioned. So you can be very curious about what will come in the future. The trio is wonderful and well-rehearsed with each other. I could already convince myself of that live at concert. The end of the song reminds me vocally even of the song „Child In Time“ by DEEP PURPLE, even if this embodies a completely different sound. But compare the screams in the songs yourself!

Conclusion

S.O.R.M. launch with „Under My Skin“ a straight Heavy Rock album. It is a „Hellride“, which also goes „Under The Skin“. Best entertainment is offered. S.O.R.M. show different facets and have their very own characteristic sound, which makes them stand out from the crowd. Micke Holm’s great voice is unique anyway. The heavy production gives the songs the last strong touch and leaves nothing to be desired. So folks….

Eine tolle Überraschung

Ende Oktober schrieb mir Micke, dass seine Band S·O·R·M als Support für THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA auf einer kleinen europäischen Clubtour spielen würden. Eine Station würde der Rockpalast Bochum sein, also quasi in meiner Nachbarschaft. Ich war völlig aus dem Häuschen vor Freude. Noch größer war die Freude, als mir angeboten wurde ein persönliches Interview mit Björn Strid und Micke Holm zu machen. So hatte ich die Ehre mich vor dem Konzert im Tourbus unterhalten zu können. Das Interview mit Björn ist bereits online (Link) und nun werdet Ihr den Plausch mit Micke zu lesen bekommen.

Ein wahrer Traum

MH: Hi Micke. Zunächst einmal muss ich sagen, dass ich nie damit gerechnet hätte, dass wir uns hier in Deutschland so schnell sehen, und dann noch sogar in meiner Heimatstadt Bochum. Das ist wirklich unglaublich!

Micke: Ich habe wirklich nicht mehr gewusst, dass Du in Bochum wohnst. Du hast mir das irgendwann mal geschrieben, aber wir kennen uns jetzt seit zwei Jahren und ich habe es nicht mehr auf dem Schirm gehabt. Aber nun bin ich hier. Es wirkt ein wenig unwirklich, wenn man jemanden trifft, mit dem man seit zwei Jahren regelmäßig nur über Messenger schreibt. Aber es ist so verdammt cool und ich freue mich sehr darüber.

Möchtest Du auch ein Stück Schokolade?

MH: Nein danke… Bier und Schokolade gehen für mich keine gute Symbiose ein. So Micke… Wie geht es dir eigentlich?

Micke: Gut… Mir geht es besser, als ich erwartet hätte. Zumindest was meine Stimme angeht, hatte ich mehr Befürchtungen, dass diese bei den täglichen Shows leiden könnte. Ich bin wirklich froh, dass alles passt. Ich erlebe gerade Momente, die mit zu den schönsten meines musikalischen Lebens zählen.

MH: Ist es ein wahrgewordener Traum?

Micke: Ja auf jeden Fall, in jeglicher Hinsicht! Ich war schon mal auf Tour als Sänger mit einer anderen Band, aber ich war noch nie auf Tour mit ‚meiner‘ Band. Bei der anderen Band wurde ich als Sänger eingestellt. S.O.R.M habe ich mit Robin gegründet und aufgebaut. Das ist eine größere Leistung und nun bekommen wir etwas zurück, wofür wir Jahre hart gearbeitet haben. Johan ist dazugekommen und wir sind über die Jahre wie eine Familie zusammengewachsen.

NIGHT FLIGHT sind enge Freunde von uns und zusammen sind wir auch wie eine große Familie. Dazu kommt, dass meine Freunding dabei ist, weil sie als Backgroundsängerin bei NIGHT FLIGHT tätig ist. Das ist so toll mit ihr zusammen diese Tour machen zu können.

Erfolgreiche Tour

MH: Ihr seid in Deutschland noch relativ unbekannt. Wie waren die Reaktionen bisher auf der Tour?

Micke: In jedem Club haben wir als unbekannte Newcomer gespielt. Fast niemand wusste, dass wir als Support spielen. Dies lag auch daran, dass die Clubs keine Werbung gemacht haben.

MH: Da muss ich dir zustimmen. Man sieht kaum noch die Plakate und Poster, die man früher fast an jeder Ecke gesehen hat, wenn irgendwo in der Nähe ein Konzert stattfand. Alles findet größtenteils nur noch online statt. Das ist schade!

Micke: Ja, und deswegen waren viele Leute davon überrascht, dass es eine Supportband gibt. So mussten wir den Leuten erst einmal zeigen wer wir sind. Und das haben wir getan!!! Wir haben ihnen unsere Songs vor den Latz geknallt und wir bekamen tolle Reaktionen. Manche waren zunächst zurückhaltend, weil sie uns nicht kannten, aber spätestens nach zwei oder drei Songs waren sie mit uns. Nach dem Auftritt kamen die Leute zu uns und sagten so was wie: „Hey, ich bin total überrascht…. Ihr seid so wahnsinnig gut…. Ihr könntet als Headliner spielen…“

So ist die Tour eine fantastische Erfahrung für uns. Und nach jedem Auftritt haben wir ein paar Fans mehr, die uns folgen und unterstützen. Dies wird uns auch helfen, wenn wir unser neues Album veröffentlichen.

Das neue Album

MH: Ein gutes Stichwort. Wann wird das neue Album nun erscheinen?

Micke: Der Mix des neuen Albums ist fertig. Es fehlt noch das Mastering. Ich gehe davon aus, dass es im April erscheinen wird. Vorher wird es zwei Singles geben, „Crazy“ and „I Die For Rock’n Roll“.

Das Album wird „Under My Skin“ heißen und den Titeltrack wird es in zwei verschiedenen Versionen geben. Die eine Version wurde von John Lönnmyr, dem Keyborder von NIGHT FLIGHT, mit wundervollen Arrangements veredelt, so dass es zu einer soften Ballade wird. Dagegen wird die andere Version durch Doug Blair mehr zu einer Power-Ballade.

MH: Doug Blair und du habt mittlerweile ein sehr freundschaftliches Verhältnis und habt in Schweden auch einige kleinere Akustik-Shows gemacht.

Micke: Genau! Dies ist auch ein Traum, der wahr geworden ist. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ich mal Solos vom W.A.S.P Gitarristen in dieser Form live erleben würde und zusammen mit ihm auftreten würde. Ein außergewöhnliche Erfahrung!

S·O·R·M und W.A.S.P.

MH: Als ich die ersten Songs von S.O.R.M hörte, dachte ich sofort an W.A.S.P! Wirst Du oft mit W.A.S.P verglichen?

Micke: Ich glaube, dass liegt daran, dass manche Songs einen ähnlichen Aufbau wie die von W.A.S.P haben. Wenn ich dann noch in einer bestimmten Art und Weise singe, dann kommen bei den Fans diese Assoziationen. Es ist ja auch kein Geheimnis, dass wir große Fans dieser Band sind und ihre Musik uns beeinflußt.

MH: Hast du denn mal in einer Schulband gespielt?

Micke: Tatsächlich war ich ein Sportler, bis ich 15 Jahre alt wurde. Erst dann bin ich einer Schulband beigetreten und habe dort Bass gespielt. Sänger wurde ich erst später.

A great surprise

At the end of October Micke wrote me that his band S·O·R·M would play as support for THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA on a small European club tour. One stop would be the Rockpalast Bochum, near by my home. I was completely thrilled. The joy was even bigger when I was offered to do a personal interview with Björn Strid and Micke Holm. So I had the honor to talk to them in the tour bus before the concert. The interview with Björn is already online (Link) and now you will get to read the chat with Micke.

A real dream

MH: Hi Micke. First of all, I have to say that I never expected to see you here in Germany so soon, and then even in my hometown Bochum. That’s really incredible!

Micke: I really didn’t know anymore that you live in Bochum. You wrote me that at some point, but we’ve known each other for two years now and I didn’t have it on my radar anymore. But now I am here. It seems a little surreal when you meet someone you’ve been writing with regularly for two years only via Messenger. But it’s so damn cool and I’m really happy about it.

By the way….Would you like a piece of chocolate as well?

MH: No thanks… Beer and chocolate don’t form a good combination for me. So Micke… How are you actually doing?

Micke: Good… I’m doing better than I expected. At least as far as my voice is concerned, I was more worried that it would suffer with the daily shows. I’m really happy that everything is fitting. I’m experiencing moments right now that are among the most beautiful of my musical life.

MH: Is it a dream come true?

Micke: Yes definitely, in every way! I’ve been on tour before as a singer with another band, but I’ve never been on tour with ‚my‘ band. With the other band, I was hired as the singer. S.O.R.M I founded and built up with Robin. It’s a bigger accomplishment and now we’re getting something back that we worked hard for for years. Johan joined and we have grown together like a family over the years.

NIGHT FLIGHT are close friends of ours and together we are also like a big family. In addition, my girlfriend is with us because she is a background singer for NIGHT FLIGHT. It’s so great to be able to do this tour together with her.

Successful tour so far

MH: You are still relatively unknown in Germany. How were the reactions on the tour so far?

Micke: In every club we played as unknown newcomers. Almost nobody knew that we were playing as support. This was also due to the fact that the clubs did not advertise.

MH: I have to agree with you there. You hardly see the posters and billboards anymore that you used to see on almost every corner when there was a concert somewhere nearby. Everything takes place online for the most part. That’s a pity!

Micke: Yes, and that’s why many people were surprised that there was a support band. So we had to show people who we are first. And we did!!! We just blasted our songs in front of them and we got great reactions. Some were reluctant at first because they didn’t know us, but after two or three songs they were totally with us. After the gig people came up to us and said something like: „Hey, I’m totally surprised…. You are so insanely good…. You could play as a headliner…“
So the tour is a fantastic experience for us. And after every gig we have a few more fans who follow and support us. This will also help us when we release our new album.

The new album

MH: A good keyword. When will the new album be released?

Micke: The mix of the new album is ready. The mastering is still missing. I expect it to be released in April. Before that there will be two singles, „Crazy“ and „I Die For Rock’n Roll“.

The album will be called „Under My Skin“ and the title track will be available in two different versions. One version has been enhanced with wonderful arrangements by John Lönnmyr, the keyboard player of NIGHT FLIGHT, so that it becomes a soft ballad. Whereas the other version with guitarist Doug Blair becomes more of a power ballad.

MH: Doug Blair and you have a very friendly relationship by now and have also done some smaller acoustic shows in Sweden.

Micke: Exactly! This is also a dream come true. I never thought that I would see solos from the W.A.S.P guitarist live in this form and perform together with him. An extraordinary experience!

S·O·R·M & W.A.S.P.

MH: When I heard the first songs of S.O.R.M, I immediately thought of W.A.S.P! Are you often compared with W.A.S.P?

Micke: I think it’s because some songs have a similar structure to W.A.S.P.’s songs. If I then sing in a certain way, then these associations come to the fans. It’s no secret that we are big fans of this band and their music influences us.

MH: Have you ever played in a school band?

Micke: In fact, I was a sportsman until I turned 15. Only then did I join a school band and play bass. I became a singer only later.

Die Heavy Rocker

S.O.R.M (Facebook) aus Schweden hatten einen super Start Ende 2020 mit ihrer EP „Hellraiser“ (Review) hingelegt und wurden dann gnadenlos von COVID 19 ausgebremst. Jetzt wollen sie noch mal richtig durchstarten! Sie haben ein neues Album in Arbeit und wollen endlich auch wieder (überall) ihre Musik auf die Bühnen bringen. Wir von ‚metal-heads.de‘ haben mit dem Sänger und Gitarristen Micke Holm ein kleines Interview geführt. Unter anderem gibt es eine sehr lustige Geschichte aus dem Bandleben, einige Ausblicke auf das neue Album und Infos über die Zusammenarbeit mit einem großartigen Musiker. Und Fans von außergewöhnlichen Gitarren sollten das Interview ohnehin nicht verpassen.

Ein Neuanfang

MH: Hallo Micke! Seit unserem letzten Interview im Dezember 2020 (Link) ist einige Zeit vergangen. Die Geißel COVID 19 hat die ganze Welt seit langem in ihren Klauen gehalten. Es wurde immer berichtet, dass die Einschränkungen in Schweden nicht so massiv gewesen sein sollen. Wie hast Du das empfunden?

Micke: Zumindest eine Zeit lang gab es in Schweden auch keine Live-Musik in allen Clubs. Das war eine harte Zeit für uns Musiker. Aber wir hatten mehr Zeit, um die Veröffentlichung des Albums zu planen und das Album fertigzustellen.

MH: Gab es in dieser Zeit auch Live-Auftritte von S.O.R.M ?

Micke: Zuerst waren es ein paar Akustikshows. Und als sie im Herbst/Winter 2021 wieder öffneten, spielten wir drei Festivals, bevor Schweden wieder dicht machte.

Das neue Album

MH: Ich denke, wir sollten die Fans nicht zu lange auf das warten lassen, woran sie am meisten interessiert sind. Lass uns darüber reden, was in der Zwischenzeit musikalisch mit S.O.R.M passiert ist. Können sich die Fans bald auf ein neues Album von Euch freuen?

Micke: Unser Plan war es, unser erstes Album im Frühjahr 2022 zu veröffentlichen, aber so wie es jetzt aussieht, werden wir bis nach dem Sommer warten. Wir werden im Vorfeld zwei Singles veröffentlichen.

MH: Wie habt Ihr die Entstehung und die Aufnahmen des neuen Materials erlebt?

Micke: Wir hatten viel Spaß bei den Aufnahmen zum Album! Es gab viel Bier und lange Nächte, haha.

Schöne Überraschung

MH: Gab es überraschende Momente oder Songs, die Sie vorher nicht erwartet hatten?

Micke: Ja, bei zwei Liedern könnt ihr euch auf eine Überraschung gefasst machen. Die Songs auf dem Album sind alle aus persönlicher Erfahrungen geschrieben. Ich könnte sagen, dass es Liebesgeschichten sind, die von Leid und Erlösung handeln. Die beiden besonderen Songs sind auf irgendeine Weise miteinander verbunden und ich kann euch versprechen, dass ihr überrascht sein werdet. Mehr werde ich noch nicht verraten. Seid gespannt auf das, was kommen wird.

MH: Hattet Ihr einen genauen Plan und habt Ihr diesen strikt umgesetzt?

Micke: Wir wussten, was wir spielen wollten, aber wir sind offen für Änderungen während der Aufnahmen. Es gab also keinen Plan, wir haben uns einfach nach unserem Gefühl für die Musik gerichtet.

MH: Laufen Eure Proben immer brav und diszipliniert ab?

Micke: Wir trinken 2,5 Stunden lang Kaffee und proben 30 Minuten lang, haha. Aber in diesen 30 Minuten sind wir sehr brav.

Road story

MH: Micke, warum erzählst Du uns nicht etwas aus der Schatztruhe der besonderen Erfahrungen, die du mit der Band S.O.R.M gemacht hast?

Ich kann euch von einer Geschichte von unterwegs erzählen…. Wir spielten am Donnerstagabend einen Gig in Stockholm. Am nächsten Tag sollten wir in einer anderen Stadt spielen, die 4 Stunden entfernt war. Wir konnten in Stockholm keinen Platz zum Schlafen finden, also beschlossen wir, direkt nach unserem Auftritt die vier Stunden lange Fahrt nach Karlstad anzutreten. Der Barbesitzer in Karlstad hatte uns eine Unterkunft für zwei Nächte zur Verfügung gestellt. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt fing die ganze Scheisse an. Wir hatten einen Freund dabei, der den Van fuhr. Schlagzeuger Robin und ich schliefen sofort ein. Ich wachte nach 3 Stunden auf und fand uns an einer Tankstelle geparkt. Ich öffnete meine Augen und sah meine Seite des Vans und dachte: „Was zum Teufel!“ Alles war mit Kotze bedeckt. Also wirklich alles!

Also was war passiert?

Johan, unser Bassist, bekam Angst wegen der Fahrweise unseres Freundes, so dass er eine ganze Flasche Whiskey trank. Es bekam ihm nicht so gut. Ihm wurde schlecht und er hat den ganzen Van vollgekotzt, während wir während der Fahrt schliefen, haha. Aber das war noch nicht alles. Wir kamen endlich zu unseren Zimmern in Karlstadt und wollten die Schlüssel abholen. Aber jemand hatte die falschen Schlüssel hinterlegt. Also rief ich den Manager an und er sagte, dass vor 8 Uhr morgens kein Personal da sein würde und es war 6 Uhr morgens. Und es war minus 8 Grad draußen! Also mussten wir im Van warten und uns unsere königlichen Eier abfrieren, haha.

Erste Single und tour?

MH: Wann wird die erste Single des neuen Albums veröffentlicht? Wird es ein Video dazu geben?

Micke: Wir hoffen vor dem Sommer und ja, es wird ein Video geben.

MH: Was sind die Pläne für eine Europatournee und speziell für Konzerte in Deutschland?

Micke: Das wissen wir noch nicht. Es hängt alles von unserem Label NOBLE DEMON ab und wann wir das neue Album veröffentlichen. Aber wir hoffen, dass wir nach Deutschland kommen können.

Ein Wunsch wird wahr

MH: Ich weiß, dass es bald einen ganz besonderen Live-Auftritt von S.O.R.M geben wird. Erzähle mir etwas darüber!

Micke: Ja, was für eine Show das sein wird, haha. Wir werden eine Show zusammen mit Doug Blair von W.A.S.P. machen! Doug wird uns unterstützen und dann zu uns auf die Bühne kommen und zwei S.O.R.M-Songs und zwei W.A.S.P.-Songs spielen. Ich werde zwei W.A.S.P.-Songs mit Doug in einer akustischen Version singen. Das bedeutet mir als wirklich großem W.A.S.P.-Fan sehr viel. Jetzt habe ich mein Ziel erreicht und kann meine Gitarre an den Nagel hängen und mein Geld richtig verdienen, haha.

Mutant Twin, Blade Gitarren und Gentleman Doug Blair

MH: Das ist wirklich erstaunlich! Doug Blair von W.A.S.P. ist ein wahnsinnig leidenschaftlicher Gitarrist. Gitarren sind seine wahre Leidenschaft. Das geht so weit, dass er auch selbst Gitarren entwirft. Stimmt es, dass du eine Gitarre bei ihm in Auftrag gegeben hast? Was ist das Besondere an seinen Gitarren, abgesehen von der Tatsache, dass sie vom Meister selbst gebaut wurden?

Micke: Ja, ich habe eine Mutant Twin von Doug gekauft. Es ist eine Gitarre mit Doppelhals, akustisch und elektrisch. Diese Gitarre hat er sich selbst gebaut. Sie stammt von seinen ersten Werken aus dem Jahr 1993. Es sind also Doug, meine Wenigkeit und zwei andere Jungs, die Gitarren aus dieser Serie besitzen. Natürlich bedeutet es sehr viel, dass Doug Blair der Schöpfer ist.

MH: Wie kam der Kontakt zu Doug Blair zustande? Wie ist er so als Mensch?

Micke: Zuerst war es so, dass ich den Mutant Twin von ihm bekommen habe. Daraus wuchs eine echte Freundschaft. Und jetzt bin ich der Einzige in dieser beschissenen Welt, der seine Erlaubnis hat, sein Markenzeichen auf meinen Gitarren zu verwenden (das Sägeblatt). Doug ist der freundlichste und bescheidenste Prominente, mit dem ich je gesprochen habe. Ein echter Gentleman.

S.O.R.M und der W.A.S.P. Faktor

MH: Du bist wie viele andere ein großer Fan von W.A.S.P.! Passenderweise hat deine Stimme eine nicht unbedeutende Ähnlichkeit mit Blackie Lawless. Wann hast Du diese Tatsache bemerkt? Und wann und wie hast du W.A.S.P. damals entdeckt?

Micke: Als ich mit S.O.R.M anfing, bemerkte ich, dass ich ein bisschen wie Blackie klang und so entstand der Sound von S.O.R.M. Ein Freund von mir hat mir „Cocaine Cowboys“ vorgespielt, als ich 13-14 war, und ich habe den Song sofort geliebt und war von dem Moment an süchtig.  Ich liebe die Art, wie W.A.S.P. ihre Songs und Texte schreiben bzw. geschrieben haben.

MH: Worauf freust Du sich im Jahr 2022 oder was wünscht Du Dir für dieses Jahr?

Micke: Ich freue mich auf die Veröffentlichung unseres Albums und darauf, mit der Band zu touren. Und ich hoffe, dass ich auch ein paar großartige Shows sehen werde.

The heavy rockers

S.O.R.M (Facebook) had a great start at the end of 2020 with their EP „Hellraiser“ (Review) and were then mercilessly thwarted by COVID 19. Now they want to take off again! They have a new album in the works and finally want to bring their music to the stages again. We from ‚metal-heads.de‘ have done a little interview with singer and guitarist Micke Holm. Among other things, there is a very funny story from the band’s life, some previews of the new album and info about the collaboration with a great musician. New beginning

MH: Hello Micke! Some time has passed since our last interview in December 2020 (Link). The scourge COVID 19 has held the whole world in its claws for a long time. It was always reported that the restrictions in Sweden were not so massive. How did you think about that?

Micke: So at least for a while in Sweden there was no live music in all the clubs either. That was a hard time for us musicians. But we did have more time to plan the album release and finishing the album.

MH: Were there any live performances of S.O.R.M during this time?

Micke: At first it was some acoustic show`s. And when they opend up fall/winter 2021 we played 3 festivals befor Sweden close down again.

The new album

MH: I think that we should not let the fans wait too long for what they are most interested in. Let’s talk about what has been happening musically with S.O.R.M. in the meantime. Can the fans look forward to a new album from you soon?

Micke: Our plan was to release our first album spring 2022 but as it is now we will wait until after summer. We will release 2 singles, I hope one single before summer ;).

MH: How did you experience the creation and the recordings with the new material?

Micke: We had a blast recording the album! A lot of beer and late nights, haha.

Special surprise

MH: Were there any surprising moments or songs that you didn’t expect beforehand?

Micke: Yes, on two songs you guys are in for a surprice. The songs on the album is all written from personal experience. I could say that they are love stories meats agony and redemption. The two special songs are connected together in some way and I can promise you that you will be surprised. I don‘ t want to say more now. Be excited about what is to come.

MH: Did you have a precise plan and did you implement it stringently?

Micke: We knew how the songs goes but we are open for changes during the recording. So there was no plan, we just went with our feelings for the music.

MH: Do your rehearsals always run in a well-behaved and disciplined manner?

Micke: We drink coffee for 2,5 hours and rehears for 30 min, haha. But those 30 min we are very well behaved.

Road story

MH: Mike, why don’t you tell us something from the treasure chest of special experiences you have had with the band?

I can tell you about an on the road story…. We played a gig at Thursday night in Stockholm. The next day we were gonna play in another town four hours away. We could not find a place to sleep in Stockholm so we decided to drive four hour long trip to Karlstad right after our show. The bar owner in Karlstad had set us up with a cabin for 2 nights. From this point the shit starts to happen. We had a friend with us who drove the van. Me and my drummer Robin fell asleep straight away. I woke up after three hours to find us parking at a gas station. I opened my eyes and saw my side of the van and thought: „What the fuck!“ All was covered in vomit. And I mean the whole side bro.

So what had happened?

Johan my bass player got so nervous because of our friend’s driving that he drank a whole bottle of whiskey. He got sick so he puked all over the van meanwhile we were sleeping during the trip, haha. But it didn’t stop there. We finally came to our rooms in Karlstadt and were picking up the keys. But somebody had taken the wrong keys. So I called the manager and he said there won’t be any staff there until 8 o clock in the morning and the clock was 6 in the morning. And it was – 8 degrees outside. So we had to wait in the van freezing our royal rasta nannies of, haha.

First single and tour

MH: When will the first single of the new album be released? Will there be a video for it?

Micke: We hope before summer and yes there will be a video.

MH: What are the plans for a European tour and especially for concerts in Germany?

Micke: We don`t know yet. It all depends on our lable NOBLE DEMON and when we release the new album. But we hope we can come to Germany.

Wishes come true

MH: I know that there will be a very special live performance by S.O.R.M soon. Tell me something about it!

Micke: Yes, What a show it will be haha. We will do a show together with Doug Blair from W.A.S.P.! Doug will be supporting us and then he will join us on stage playing two S.O.R.M. songs and two W.A.S.P. songs. I will be singing two W.A.S,P. songs with Doug in an acoustic version. So this means the world to me as a really big W.A.S.P. fan. Now I have reached my goal and can hang up my guitar and earn my money properly, haha.

Mutant Twin, blade guitars and gentleman Doug Blair

MH: That’s really amazing! Doug Blair of W.A.S.P. is an insanely passionate guitarist. Guitars are his real passion. This goes so far that he also designs guitars himself. Is it true that you commissioned a guitar from him? What is special about his guitars, besides the fact that they were made by the master himself?

Micke: Yes, I bought a Mutant Twin from Doug. Its a dubble neck guitar, acoustic and electric. This guitar he built on his own. Its from his first tree back in 1993. So it’s me and Doug and two other guys that have from the same tree. Of course it means a lot that it is Doug Blair who is the creator.

MH: How did the contact to Doug Blair come about? What is he like in his private life?

Micke: At first it was me bying the Mutant Twin from him. Then a real frienship grew. And now I’m the only one in this fucked up world that has his approvel to use his trade mark on my guitars (the blade). Doug is the most kind and humbled celebrety Ihave ever spoken to. A real gentlemen.

S.O.R.M and the W.A.S.P. factor

MH: You are like many others a huge fan of W.A.S.P.! Fittingly, your voice has a not insignificant resemblance to Blackie Lawless. When did you notice this fact? And when and how did you find W.A.S.P. back then?

Micke: When I started S.O.R.M. I noticed that I sounded a bit like Blackie and thats were the sound of S.O.R.M. came to be. A friend of mine played cocaine cowboys to me when I was 13-14  and I love the song instantly and from that moment on I was hooked.  I love the way W.A.S.P. wrote their songs and lyrics.

MH: What are you looking forward to in 2022 or what do you wish for this year?

Micke: Im looking forward to our album release and touring with the band. And I hope I`ll get to see some awesome shows as well.

If you don’t fight for your love, what kind of love do you have?

W.A.S.P. …

… waren eine prägende Band der 80´er Jahre. Blackie Lawless als Sänger war einfach der Hammer. Er war unvergleichlich und hatte eine ganz besondere Stimmfarbe. Als ich letztes Jahr die Debüt-EP von S.O.R.M. hörte, kamen mit direkt Erinnerungen an Blackie hoch, nicht nur wegen der Punkte im Bandnamen. Micke Holm, Frontmann der Band S.O.R.M. (Facebook ), ist uns seit dem Output „Hellraiser“ bekannt. Micke hat eine ähnliche Stimmfarbe, kommt sogar noch ein wenig dunkler und kräftiger rüber.

Patrik Sandström (Facebook ) ist kein Mitglied dieser Band, aber ein Freund von Micke und natürlich macht er auch Musik. Sein ehrgeiziges Projekt heißt SANDSTROEM. Einen Song hat er bereits mit Micke Holm eingespielt, nämlich „Bringer Of Pain“. Das Projekt SANDSTROEM

betreibt Patrik nun schon seit einigen Zeit. Er hat bereits mit einigen Gastmusikern zusammengearbeitet. Es gibt kein Album, aber einige Singles wurden bereits veröffentlicht.

MH: Hallo Patrik, hallo Micke! Herzlich willkommen zum Interview! Bevor wir in das eigentliche Thema einsteigen, erzähl uns doch kurz, was Euch derzeit am meisten beschäftigt. Worüber macht Ihr Euch Sorgen? Worüber freut Ihr Euch und was wünscht Ihr Ihr Euch?

Patrik: Covid-19 und das, was es der Menschheit und der Welt antut. Ich befürchte, dass es ein wohl ein weiteres Jahr mit Covid 19 wird und es keine Konzerte gibt, die ich spielen oder besuchen kann. Ich hoffe, dass die Menschen um uns herum gesund bleiben. Glück bedeutet für mich, wenn ich mit meiner Familie zusammen bin. Musik aufnehmen, produzieren und mischen ist meine große Leidenschaft.

Micke: Ich mache mir Sorgen um die Musikindustrie und welchen Einfluss Corona auf das Leben der Menschen auf der ganzen Welt haben wird, nicht nur auf die Gesundheit der Menschen. Ich möchte meine Kinder glücklich und gesund sehen. Und mit meinen Freunden Musik zu machen.

Schwedische Idylle und DIE Kneipe

MH: Ihr lebt beide am See `Vänern´, dem größten See Schwedens. Patrick lebt in Vänersborg und Micke in Lidköping. Ist das so idyllisch, wie es klingt?

Patrik: Ja, es ist eine tolle Stadt und sehr schön im Sommer mit dem See und allem drumherum.

Micke: Alles, woran ich denken kann, ist der verdammte Wind, der den ganzen Sommer weht .

MH: Welche Kneipe würdet Ihr mir empfehlen, wenn ich bei Euch Urlaub machen und und eine musikalische Lokation suchen würde, die etwas mit Rock und Metal zu tun hat?

Patrik: Nein, das ist in jeder Stadt anders, aber die Bands, die Konzerte geben, kennen sich untereinander.

Micke: Ja, das stimmt.

Musikalische Vielfalt bei Patrik

MH: Erzählt uns kurz von den wichtigsten Stationen Stationen Eures musikalischen Werdegangs! Was waren Eure bisherigen musikalischen Highlights?

Patrik: Ab dem Zeitpunkt, als ich zum ersten Mal IRON MAIDEN und W.A.S.P. hörte, wusste ich, dass Musik meine Mission ist. Danach habe ich verschiedene Stufen erklommen, zum Beispiel als ich mit zehn Jahren anfing Gitarre zu spielen. Ich spielte in verschiedenen Bands, aber die nächste Stufe war, als ich Elliot beitrat, einer Symphonie-Rockband, die von Marillion beeinflusst war. Mit siebzehn begann ich, Jazz, Funk und Fusion zu spielen. Das brachte mich dazu, Musik mit Akkorden, Tonleitern, Technik und Musiktheorie zu studieren. Ich studierte Jazz in Örebro in Schweden. Ich spielte in verschiedenen Big Bands und in Jazzclubs. Dann wurde ich Gitarren-, Band- und Studiolehrer im N3 in Trollhättan.

Bald darauf wurde ich freischaffender Gitarrist und spielte hauptsächlich in MBBand und Hitmaskinen. MBBand ist eine Back-up-Band für verschiedene bekannte Künstler in Schweden, die auf Tourneen, Veranstaltungen, im Fernsehen und auf Konzerten spielen. Hitmaskinen ist eine Party-Band. Ich habe viele Auftritte mit symphonischen Orchestern und Künstlern absolviert und spiele Gitarre, nicht klassisch, sondern Pop und Rock und eben auch Metal. Aber mein größtes Interesse galt schon immer der Metal-Musik und das ist es, was ich bin. In diesem Genre spiele ich jetzt mit EMMA VARG, IRON TROOPER (A Swedish tribute to Iron Maiden) und meinem Projekt SANDSTROEM.

Gestartet mit einer deutschen Band

Micke: Ich habe Musik schon immer geliebt. Ich habe schon als kleines Kind angefangen, Musik zu hören. Meine erste Platte war „Wind of Change“ von den SCORPIONS. Mit 15 Jahren habe ich angefangen, in einer Band zu spielen, und von da an wusste ich, dass Musik etwas für mich ist. Zuerst habe ich den Bass gespielt. Mit dem Singen habe ich erst mit 25-26 Jahren angefangen, glaube ich. Ich war schon immer ein Fan von Rocksängern der 70er, 80er und 90er Jahre. Mein erstes Idol war Sebastian Bach von SKID ROW. Jetzt, wo ich älter bin, höre ich Sänger wie Geoff Tate, Myles Kennedy, Blackie Lawless, Zakk Wylde und Rob Helford und Dee Snider. Und Zakk Wylde ist mein Gitarrenheld.

Jazz und Metal

MH: Du hast u.a. von Jazz-Gitarristen gelernt und auch Jazz studiert. Ich habe in der Vergangenheit festgestellt, dass es schon einige Musiker aus dem Rock- und Metalbereich im Jazz gelernt haben.

Patrik: Ja! Jazzmusik ist der ultimative Stil, um alles über Theorie, Improvisation, Akkorde und Technik zu lernen.

MH: Wie lässt sich dieser Zusammenhang erklären, denn es sind ja sehr unterschiedliche Musikstile?

Patrik: Die Verbindung ist, dass man weiß, warum und wie all die Skalen und Modi in Metal oder Pop-Rock etc. passen. Man hat ein Verständnis und kann Musik lesen; zum Beispiel wenn Du 20 Songs für einen Künstler lernen musst oder wenn du als Dozent mit der Band oder dem Künstler probst. Du spielst nur 20 Minuten vor dem Auftritt, du musst Musik lesen und schnell verstehen, was passiert. Das hilft dir beim Songwriting-Prozess. Ich kann jeden Stil in Pop, Rock, Jazz, Fusion, Funk, Country, Balladen und so weiter spielen, weil ich Jazz studiert habe.

SANDSTROEM als kreative Möglichkeit

MH: Was hat Dich dazu bewogen, überhaupt ein Soloprojekt zu starten?

Patrik: Ich habe schon immer Musik für die Bands geschrieben, in denen ich gespielt habe, aber vor etwa vier Jahren begann ich zu lernen, wie man Musik aufnimmt, produziert und mischt. Aus diesem Grund musste ich Songs haben, an denen ich üben konnte. Und das hat mich dazu gebracht, SANDTRÖM zu gründen, um jeden Schritt vom Schreiben, Aufnehmen, Produzieren und Abmischen meiner Songs zu übernehmen.

MH: Warum hast Du nicht eine eigene Band gegründet?

Patrik: Eine große Inspiration ist Arjen Lucassen und sein Star One Projekt, bei dem er verschiedene Sänger und Musiker einsetzt. Das Album Start One ist ein Meisterwerk! Ich schreibe also Songs, die ich mag und frage bei Künstlern an. Man bekommt neue Kontakte und hat so viel Spaß beim Reden und Musik aufnehmen.

Freunde: Patrik und Micke

MH:Ihr habt auch schon mal einen Song zusammen performt, „Bringer Of Pain“. Wie kam es zu eurer ersten Zusammenarbeit? Seid ihr auch privat befreundet? Kennt Ihr Euch aus dem Sandkasten?

Patrik: Ich kannte Micke vorher nicht, aber weil Micke der Manager von EMMA VARG ist, haben wir uns dadurch vor etwa zwei Jahren kennengelernt. Micke hat eine sehr freundliches Wesen, so dass es einfach ist, ihn kennenzulernen. Wir sprachen über eine Zusammenarbeit nach einem Gig, als ich mit EMMA VARG und er mit S.O.R.M. spielte.

Micke: Zuerst wusste ich nicht, dass Patrik die gleiche Musik mochte wie ich. Als er mich dann an diesem Abend beim Gig fragte, ob ich Vocals auf einem seiner Songs aufnehmen würde, zögerte ich nicht. Er mochte meine Stimme, weil sie ihn an Blackie von W.A.S.P. erinnerte. Und Patrik ist ein großartiger Kerl und ein verdammt guter Gitarrist und Songwriter, den ich mit Stolz meinen Freund und Bruder nennen darf.

Hommage an W.A.S.P.

MH: Also war die stimmliche Ähnlichkeit zu Blackie der Grund für die Zusammenarbeit?

Patrik: Ja, und es macht Spaß zusammen zu arbeiten. Denn ich muss sagen, dass mich der Song „I Will Fall“ sofort an W.A.S.P. erinnert, nicht nur wegen Mickes Stimme. W.A.S.P. ist eine fantastische Band und um in ihre Musik einzusteigen, versuchte ich, etwas Ähnliches zu machen. Das ist einfach ein Tribut an die Band W.A.S.P!

Zukunftspläne

MH: Werdet Ihr weiter zusammenarbeiten?

Patrik: Ja. Ich werde bis 2022 jeden Monat einen Song mit SANDSTROEM veröffentlichen und Micke wird die Vocals für einen neuen Song namens „Carry On“ aufnehmen. Außerdem habe ich neue Sänger und Musiker, die in der Reihe stehen und die Stile reichen von A.O.R. (Adult Oriented Rock) bis Power Metal.

Micke: Ich hoffe wirklich, dass er mit mir noch mehr Songs Gesang aufnehmen möchte .

Neues von S.O.R.M ?

MH: Micke, was ist im Moment mit S.O.R.M. los? Gibt es irgendwelche Neuigkeiten zu berichten? Neue Single oder so?

Micke: Wir haben angefangen, an Album Nr.2 zu arbeiten. Wir hoffen, unsere erste Single nach dem Sommer 2021 zu veröffentlichen. Wir werden eine große Überraschung auf dem Album haben .

W.A.S.P….

… were a formative band of the 80’s. Blackie Lawless as a singer was just awesome. He was incomparable and had a very special voice color. When I heard the debut EP of S.O.R.M. last year, memories of Blackie came up directly, not only because of the dots in the band name. Micke Holm, frontman of the band S.O.R.M. (Facebook ), is known to us since the output „Hellraiser“. Micke has a similar voice color, even comes across a bit darker and stronger.

Patrik Sandström (Facebook ) is not a member of this band, but a friend of Micke and of course he also makes music. He has already recorded one song with Micke Holm, namely „Bringer Of Pain“. The project SANDSTROEM

has been running his solo project SANDSTROEM for some time now. He has already collaborated with some guest musicians. There is no album, but some singles have been released.

MH: Hello Patrik, hello Micke! Welcome to the interview! Before we start into the actual topic, tell us briefly what you are currently most concerned about. What are you happy about? What are you worried about?

Patrik: The covid-19 what it does for mankind and the things it does for the the world. That it’s going to be another year of covid and that there is no concerts to play or go to. I hope the people around us stay healthy.

Being with my family, recording, producing and mixing music means happiness for me.

Micke: Im concerned about the music industry and what impact corona will have on the livescene all around the world and of course to people`s health.

It means all to me seeing my kids happy and healthy. Playing music with my brothers is also a really wonderful thing.

Swedish idyll and THE pub

MH: You both live by Lake Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden. Patrick lives in Vänersborg and Micke in Lidköping. Is it as idyllic as it sounds?

Patrik: Yes, it’s great town and very beautiful in the summer with the lake and so on.

Micke: All I can think about is the damn wind blowing the whole summer .

MH: Which pub would you recommend if I were on vacaJon with you and looking for a musical locaJon that has something to do with Rock and Metal?

Patrik: Backstage Rockbar!

MH: Do all the bands in your area know each other personally?

Patrik: No i’ts different in every town but those bands who does concerts know each other.

Micke: I agree with Pat on this one.

Musical stations of Patrik

MH: Tell us briefly about the most important stages of your musical career! What were your musical highlights so far?

Patrik: From the stage that I heard IRON MAIDEN and W.A.S.P. for the first Ame I knew that music was my mission. After that I have climbed different stages like when I started play guitar when I was ten years old. Play in different bands but the next stage was when I joined Elliot a symphony rock band influenced by Marillion. I started to play Jazz, Funk and fusion when I was seventeen. This made me to study music with cords, scales, technique and music theory. I study Jazz in Örebro i Sweden and played I different big bands and on jazz clubs.

I then became a guitar, band, studio teacher in at N3 in Trollhättan. Soon after that I became a freelance guitarist mainly playing in MBBand and Hitmaskinen. MBBand is a back up band for different famous artist in Sweden playing on tours, events, television and concerts. Hitmaskinen is a party band. I have done lots of gigs with symphonic orchestras and arAst playing guitar not classical but pop and rock and sometimes metal. But my biggest interest has alway been metal music and that is who I am. In this genre now play with EMMA VARG, IRON TROOPER (A Swedish tribute to Iron Maiden) and my project SANDSTRÖM.

Started with a German band

Micke: I have always loved music. I started to listen to music when I was just a wee little toddler. My first record was „Wind of Change“ by SCORPIONS. I started playing in band when I was 15 years old. From that moment on I knew that music was something for me and I played the Bas at first. With singing I did´nt start until I was 25-26 I think. I always been a fan of 70s-80s-90s rock singers. My first idol was Sebastian Bach from SKID ROW. Now when im older I listen to singers as Geoff Tate, Myles Kennedy, Blackie Lawless, Zakk Wylde and Rob Helford and Dee Snider. And Zakk Wylde is my guitar hero.

Jazz and Metal-How does that fit?

MH: You learned from jazz guitarists, among others, and also studied Jazz. I noticed in the past that some musicians from Rock and Metal also learned in Jazz.

Patrik: Yes. Jazz music is the ulAmate style to learn all about theory, improvisaAon, chords and technique.

MH: How can this connection be explained, because they are very different styles of music?

Patrik: The connection is that you know why and how all the scales and modes fits in to metal or pop rock. etc. You have an understanding and you can read music.

For instance if you have 20 songs to learn to backup an artist when you docent rehearse with the band or artist. You only play for 20 minutes befor the gig you must read music and be quick to understand what is happening. It helps you in the songwriting process. I can play every style in pop, rock, jazz, fusion, funk, country, ballads and so on because of Jazz studies.

SANDSTROEM as a creative option

MH: What made you decide to start a solo project in the first place?

Patrik: I always been writing music for the bands I played in but about four years ago I began to study how to record produce and mix music. Because of this I had to have songs to practice on. And it was this that made me to start SANDSTROEM to do every step from wriAng, record, produce and mix my songs.

MH: Why didn’t you start your own band?

Patrik: A big inspiration is Arjen Lucassen and his Star One project where he uses different singers and musicians. The album „Start One“ is a masterpiece! So I write songs that I like and fist the artist. You get new contacts and have so much fun talking and record music.

Friends: Patrik and Micke

MH:You’ve also performed a song together before, called „Bringer Of Pain“. How did it come to your first collaboration? Are you also friends in private?

Patrik: I didn’t know Micke before but because Micke is the manager of EMMA VARG and through that we got to know each other about two years ago. Mike has a very friendly output so it’s easy to get to know him.We talked about to work together after a gig when I played with EMMA VARG and he with S.O.R.M.

Micke: At first I didn`t know that Patrick Liked the same music as I did. So when he asked me that night at the gig if I would record vocals on one of his song I did not hesitate. He liked my voice because it reminded him of Blackie from W.A.S.P. And Patrick is an awesome guy and a hell of a guitar player and songwriter that I feel very proud to call my fried and brother.

Tribute to W.A.S.P.

MH: So the vocal similarity to Blackie was the reason for the collaboration?

Patrik: Yes, and it’s fun to work together. Because I have to say that the song „I Will Fall“ reminds me immediately of W.A.S.P, not only because of Micke’s voice. W.A.S.P. is a fantastic band and to get in to there music I try to do something similar is just a tribute to the band W.A.S.P.

Future plans

MH: Will you continue working together?

Patrik: Yes. Im going to release one song every month with SANDSTROEM until 2022 and Micke is going to record the vocals for a new song called „Carry On“. I have new singers and musicians that’s in line and the styles are from A.O.R. (Adult Oriented Rock) to Power Metal.

Micke: I really hope he want´s me to record vocals on more songs .

News of S.O.R.M. ?

MH: Micke, what’s going on with S.O.R.M. at the moment? Is there any news to report? New single or something?

Micke: We have started working on album Nr.2! We hope to release our first single after summer 2021. We will have a big surprise on the album .

Entstehung von S.O.R.M

MH: Lass uns mit einer einfachen Frage beginnen, bevor wir tief in die Geheimnisse der Menschheit eindringen. Wofür stehen die Buchstaben im Bandnamen S.O.R.M ?

Micke: Das ist ein Geheimnis .

MH: Wie und unter welchen Umständen wurde die Band gegründet?

Micke: Ich plane Veranstaltungen in meiner Heimatstadt, und eine Show hatte keinen lokalen Support. Also rief mich ein Freund an und fragte, ob wir zwei und Robin eine Band für diese Show zusammenstellen sollten. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte ich noch keine Band. Also sagte ich „Ja“. Ich eilte nach Hause und begann Songs zu schreiben. Nach diesem Auftritt spielten wir 2 Wochen später einen Auftritt in Göteborg, und wir bekamen bei beiden Auftritten gute Resonanz. Also beschlossen wir, mit S.O.R.M. weiterzumachen.

Ein Sechserpack für einen Bart

MH: Und jetzt kommen wir schon zu einer schwierigen Frage, denke ich. Du hast eine beeindruckende Haarpracht, sowohl auf dem Kopf als auch im Gesicht. Worauf könntest Du eher verzichten, auf Bart oder Haare?

Micke: Meinen Bart! Ich bin wie Simson! All meine Kraft ist im Haar, haha.

(MH:Ich wusste tatsächlich nicht, wen er damit meinte und ging erst von Bart Simpson aus und wunderte mich ein wenig. Micke hat nun optisch mal so gar nix mit Bart Simpson gemeinsam. Daher stellte sich mein erster Gedanke als großer Irrtum heraus. Denn Micke spielte auf den Samson im Alten Testament in der Bibel an, der als biblischer Held im Kampfe so lange als unbesiegbar galt, wie er sein Haupthaar ungeschoren ließ (Wikipedia). Diese Geschichte war mir bis dato tatsächlich unbekannt. Kleine, aber feine Verwechslung)

MH: Und wofür würdest Du ihn eintauschen?

Micke: Ein Six-Pack !

Familie und Emotionen

MH: Hast Du eine musikalische Familie oder bist Du der Einzige, der auf dem „Highway To Hell“ ist?

Micke: Nun… Ich bin der einzige, der auf dem „Highway to Hell“ ist, aber mein Großvater spielte Bass. Musik ist eine große Sache in meiner Familie, aber ich bin der Einzige, der in einer Band spielt.

MH: Meiner Meinung nach hat Musik immer etwas mit Emotionen zu tun, oft aus persönlichen Erfahrung heraus. Wie siehst Du das?

Micke: Die Musik hat mir das Leben gerettet, deswegen eindeutige Zustimmung meinerseits.

MH: Ist es möglich, Rock- oder Metal-Songs ohne Emotionen zu schreiben?

Micke: Zur Hölle nein !!!

MH: Wodurch wirst Du inspiriert?

Micke: Wenn es um Musik geht, mein eigenes Leben und wirklich gute Sänger. Und sonst im Leben sind es meine Kinder und die Helden des Alltags.

MH: Die Lieder auf „Hellraiser“ spiegeln eine eher düstere, aber auch kämpferische Stimmung wider. Woher kamen die Inspirationen speziell für diese Lieder?

Micke: Jeder Song auf „Hellraiser“ ist eine Geschichte aus meinem eigenen Leben. Mit Ausnahme von „House Of The Rising Sun“.

Nachtrag-S.O.R.M Q&A Live

MH: Kleiner Einschub meinserseits…. Manchmal ist Micke ein Mann weniger Worte. Daher hatte ich die Gelegenheit genutzt, mir den Live Stream von S.O.R.M zur Veröffentlichung von „Hellraiser“ am 04.12.2020 anzusehen. Dort habe ich dann noch einmal nachgehakt. In einer sehr illustren lustigen Runde konnte ich mich prächtig amüsieren und habe einige meiner Fragen dort noch mal gestellt. Vielleicht lag es an den paar Bierchen, die vernichtet wurden, dass dort noch einige Worte mehr zu bestimmten Fragen gefallen sind. Auch das oben erwähnte Six-Pack Bier wurde noch einmal thematisiert. Unter anderem kam dabei heraus, dass die Songs in einer schwierigen Phase des Lebens entstanden sind. Dabei geht es um Kontrolle durch andere Personen (Gipsy Queen), den leidvollen Weg zu einem Tiefpunkt im Leben (Brick By Brick) und den Kampf aus der Hölle zurück ins Leben (Hellraiser). TYPE O NEGATIVE Einflüsse

MH: Ihr habt die tolle EP „Hellraiser“ veröffentlicht. In der Vergangenheit habt Ihr das auf eigene Faust getan. Und jetzt gebt Ihr dieser EP unter dem Label „Noble Demon“ die Ehre, die ihm gebührt. Und um ihr etwas ganz Besonderes zu verleihen, habt Ihr eine tolle Coverversion des Kultsongs „House Of The Rising Sun“ gemacht. Wie seid Ihr auf diese Idee gekommen?

Micke: Unser Roadmanager Hank spielt Klavier, und er schickte einem Freund von uns einen Clip, wie er im Song „House Of The Rising Sun“ das Orgelsolo spielt. Dieser Freund (Göran Persson) hatte die Idee, eine Coverversion des Songs zu machen, und das haben wir getan. Als wir unser Album neu einspielten, wussten wir nicht, wie das Lied klingen sollte. In der Nacht vor unserer geplanten Aufnahme hörte ich mir TYPE O NEGATIVE an und ich dachte mir: Wir machen es im Stil von TYPE O NEGATIV ! Also arrangierte ich das ganze Lied in dieser Nacht.

MH: Was verbindet Dich mit dem Song?

Micke: Ich finde, es ist ein großartiger Song und ich habe ihn oft gespielt. Also dachte ich mir, dass es cool wäre, ein Cover davon zu machen.

MH: Wie geht man an so etwas heran, wenn man ein Lied wie dieses neu interpretieren will?

Micke: Versuchen dem Song etwas eigenes zu verleihen.

Exzellente Coverversion

MH: Seid Ihr vielleicht selbst ein wenig überrascht von dem ausgezeichneten Ergebnis?

Micke: Um ehrlich zu sein: JA! Ich hatte tatsächlich ein bisschen Angst. Ich wusste nicht, was Patrick bei `NOBLE DEMON‘ denken würde. Aber bis jetzt scheint es, dass wir gute Arbeit geleistet haben .

MH: Ich habe den Eindruck, dass bei den Gitarrensoli jemand total ausgeflippt ist, natürlich im positiven Sinne. Warst Du es oder wer hat es gespielt?

Micke: Nein, ich bin es nicht! Ich wünschte, ich wäre es gewesen! Es ist ein Freund aus den Staaten, Mike Kerr, der in FIRST BOURN Gitarre spielt.

MH: Der Song „House Of The Rising Sun“ beweist, dass man auch mit geradlinigem Heavy Rock einen Song mit langer Spieldauer spannend und unterhaltsam gestalten kann, ohne besonders progressiv zu sein. Können wir erwarten, in Zukunft noch mehr solcher Stücke zu hören?

Micke: Man kann nie wissen. Wenn es nach mir ginge, würden wir mehr Songs im Stil von TYP O NEGATIVE machen.

Neues Album von S.O.R.M

MH: Mit dem „Hellraiser“ des EP habt Ihr eindrucksvoll bewiesen, dass wir auch in Zukunft auf Euch zählen können. Können sich die Fans schon jetzt auf ein neues Album im nächsten Jahr freuen?

Micke: Ja, wir werden nächstes Jahr ein ganzes Album herausbringen.

MH: Kannst Du uns bereits einige Details preisgeben?

Micke: Wenn Euch die EP gefällt, werdet Ihr unser Album lieben. Es wird eine Höllenfahrt.

MH: Möchtest Du noch etwas sagen?

Micke: Denkt daran: Ihr lebt kurz und seid sehr lange tot! Also macht das Beste aus Eurem Leben.

The beginning of S.O.R.M

MH: Let´s begin with a simple question before we go deep into the secrets of humanity. What do the letters in the band name S.O.R.M stand for?

Micke: That´s a secret .

MH: How and under which circumstances S.O.R.M was formed?

Micke: I book shows in my home town and one show I did not have a local support. So a friend of mine called me up and asked if we 2 and Robin should put a band together just for that show. At that time I did not have a band so I said yes and rushed home and started to write songs. After that gig we did a gig in Gothenburg 2 weeks later, We got good response at both of our gigs. So we decided to continue with S.O.R.M .

Beard for a six-pack

MH: And now we come quickly to a difficult question, I think. You have an impressive amount of hair, both on your head and on your face. What could you rather do without, your beard or your hair?

Micke: My beard! I´m like Simson: All my power is in my hair, haha.

(MH: I actually didn’t know who he meant by that, and I first went out from Bart Simpson and wondered a little bit. Micke has now optically nothing in common with Bart Simpson. So my first thought turned out to be a big mistake. Micke alluded to Simson in the Bible (Old Testament), who was considered invincible as a biblical hero in battle as long as he left his hair untouched (Wikipedia). This story was actually unknown to me until then. A little misunderstanding)

MH: And what would you exchange the beard for?

Micke: Well! I´m the only one who´s on the highway to hell but my grandfather played the bass. Music is a big thing in my family but I´m the only one who is playing in a band.

MH: In my opinion, music always has something to do with emotions, often from personal experience. How do you see that?

Micke: Music saved my life once. So I agree.

MH: Is it possible to write rock or metal songs without emotions?

Micke: For Hell, no !!!

MH: What do you get inspired by?

Micke: When comes to music my own life and really good singers. But in general, my kids and the everday heroes.

MH: The songs on „Hellraiser“ reflect a rather dark, but also combative mood. Where did the inspirations come from specifically for this?

Micke: Every song on Hellraiser is a story  of my own life. Except for „House Of The Rising Sun“.

Interjection-S.O.R.M Q&A Live

MH: Small slide-in unit on my part…. Sometimes Micke is a man of only a few words. Therefore I took the opportunity to watch the live stream of S.O.R.M for the release of „Hellraiser“ on 12/04/20. There I checked it out once again. In a very illustrious and funny round I had a lot of fun and asked some of my questions again.

Maybe it was because of the few beers that were destroyed that there were a few more words to certain questions. Also the above mentioned six-pack of beer was discussed once again. Among other things it came out that the songs were written in a difficult phase of life. The songs are about control by other people (Gipsy Queen), the painful way to a rock bottom in life (Brick By Brick) and the fight from hell back to life (Hellraiser). TYPE O NEGATIVE inspiration

MH: You released the great EP „Hellraiser“. In the past you have done that on your own. And now under the label Noble Demon you give that EP the right honorific, which it deserve. And to give it something really special, you made an awesome cover version of the cult song „House Of The Rising Sun“. How did you come to this idea?

Micke: Our road manager Hank plays piano and he sent a clip to a friend of ours when he plays the orgen solo in „House Of The Rising Sun“. That friend (Göran Persson) came up with the idea to do a cover of the song and so we did. When we went in to record our album we did not know how the song should be recorded. The night befor we were supposed to record the song  I listen to Type o Negative and said to myself: We do it TYPE O NEGATIVE style. So I arranged the whole song that night.

MH: What connects you with this song?

Micke: I think ist a great song and I played it a lot so it would be cool to do a cover of it.

MH: How do you approach something like this if you want to reinterpret a song like this?

Micke: Try do do your own vesion of it.

Excellent cover

MH: Are you perhaps a little surprised yourself by the excellent result?

Micke: To be honest, YES. I was actually a little bit scared. I didnt know what Patrick at `NOBLE DEMON´ would think. But so far it seems we did a great job .

MH: It seems to me that someone totally freaked out during the guitar solos, in a positive sense of course. Was it you or who played it?

Micke: No it is not me! I wish i was it! It is a friend from the states, Mike Kerr, who plays guitar in FIRST BOURN.

MH: The song „House Of The Rising Sun“ proves that even with straight heavy rock you can make a song with a long playing time exciting and entertaining without being particularly progressive. Can we expect to hear more such pieces in the future?

Micke: You never know. If it was up to me we do more TYPE O NEGATIVE style.

New album from S.O.R.M

MH: With the EP „Hellraiser“ you have impressively proven that we can count on you in the future. Can the fans already look forward to a new album next year?

Micke: Yes we are releasing a full album next year.

MH: Are there already some details you can reveal?

Micke: If you like the EP you gone love our album. It  be like riding on a hellride.

MH: Something else you want to say?

Micke: Remember, You live short and are dead for a very long time. So get the best out of your life!

First class Heavy-Rock

the Swedes S.O.R.M (Facebook )put a rousing mixture of Hardrock and Heavy Metal on our ears. In places it reminded me somehow of W.A.S.P. The voice of guitarist and singer Micke Holm is striking with a guarantee of friction; a real rock tube. S.O.R.M. should be remembered in any case, because the men have what it takes to become a big shot. The young label NOBLE DEMON (Facebook ) has thought the same about this and signed the band. (By the way, as a young label NOBLE DEMON still has some really exquisite bands in its portfolio). They wanted to celebrate this success and decided to re-record the EP „Hellraiser“.

Comment Micke Holm:

„We have decided to take down our EP „Hellraiser“ from digital services. We think that
‚Hellraiser‘ deserves to be released properly! So, we are re-releasing it again but through Noble Demon. Johan has also re-recorded the bass and we also recorded some organ on all the songs. You will see and hear quite a change on ‚Hellraiser‘ this time. We also recorded a cover song but you guys need to wait until we release the re-recorded

To get into the right mood S.O.R.M. present you the video of „Gipsy Queen“. Have fun with this rousing number! It rocks like hell!

Hard & Dirty

it continues on the EP. „Brick by Brick“ starts cautiously, but with a cool casual guitar and Micke’s awesome rock tube. Then the whole thing continues with tasteful and hard riffing. It follows a steady tonal change with the casual beginning.

„Hellraiser“ gallops ahead again more briskly and surprises with a Hammond organ in the background. This definitely has flair and the track rocks really fat.

MICKE already hinted it above that there will be a cover. And we already know what it will be. At the end S.O.R.M. dare to do a cover of the alltime classic „House Of The Rising Sun“, around whose genesis they entwine many myths. THE ANIMALS have realized the song in 1964 in a blues variant most successfully so far. S.O.R.M. has conjured a crazy 9-minute atmospheric dark killer track out of it, which interprets the song worthily in best Metal-Rock-Art. Micke’s voice is really awesome and the guitar solos are world class. This climax in the song with the furious finale is pure goose bumps. What more could you want?! Except, of course, to get more of a great band with a huge potential for next year.

By the way, you shouldn’t miss the release party on 04.12.2020!

Die Stimme des Gitarristen und Sängers Micke Holm ist markant mit Reibeisengarantie; ne richtige Rockröhre eben. S.O.R.M. sollte man sich auf jeden Fall merken, denn die Männer haben das Zeug ne große Nummer zu werden. Dies hat sich auch das junge Label NOBLE DEMON (Facebook ) gedacht und die Truppe unter Vertrag genommen. (Nebenbei bemerkt hat NOBLE DEMON als noch junges Lable wirklich exquisite Bands im Bestand.) Diesen Erfolg möchte man gebührend feiern und man hat sich entschlossen, die damals in Eigenregie veröffentlichte EP „Hellraiser“ neu aufzunehmen und unters Volk zu bringen.

„Wir haben beschlossen, unsere EP „Hellraiser“ von allen Streaming – Diensten zu nehmen, denn wir sind der Meinung, dass diese EP es verdient hat, ordnungsgemäß veröffentlicht zu werden und wir freuen uns, Noble Demon an unserer Seite zu haben. Johan hat den Bass neu aufgenommen und bei allen Songs ist nun auch etwas Orgel mit dabei. Es wird auf ‚Hellraiser‘ also eine ziemliche Veränderung zu hören und sehen sein. Einen neuen Coversong wird es ebenso geben, allerdings müsst ihr noch bis zur Veröffentlichung warten, bis wir mehr verraten dürfen.“

Hart & Schmutzig

geht es weiter auf der EP. „Brick by Brick“ beginnt verhalten, aber mit einer coolen lässigen Gitarre und Mickes geiler Rockröhre. Dann setzt sich das ganze mit Schmackes und hartem Riffing fort. Es folgt ein stetiger klanglicher Wechsel mit dem legeren Beginn. „Hellraiser“ galoppiert wieder flotter voran und überrascht mit einer kultigen Hammond Orgel im Hintergrund. Das hat auf jeden Fall Flair und die Scheibe rockt richtig fett.

Zum Ende wagen sich S.O.R.M an ein Cover des Alltime Klassikers „House Of The Rising Sun“, um dessen Entstehungsgeschichte sie viel Mythen ranken. THE ANIMALS haben die Song 1964 bisher am erfolgreichsten in einer Blues-Variante umgesetzt. S.O.R.M hat daraus einen irren 9-minütigen atmosphärischen düsteren Killertrack gezaubert, der den Song würdig in bester Metal-Rock-Art interpretiert. Mickes Stimme ist wirklich der Hammer und die Gitarrensoli sind weltklasse. Diese Klimax in dem Song mit dem furiosen Finale ist Gänsehaut pur. Was will man mehr?! Außer natürlich sich für nächstes Jahr Nachschub von einer geilen Band mit mächtig Potential zu wünschen.
