Das Single-Cover ist wieder einmal eine Wucht und ein absoluter Hingucker! Doch hat man sich dieses Mal mit der Farbgebung zurückgehalten, so dass es weniger bunt geworden ist, aber nicht weniger episch.

Als musikalische Unterstützung hat sich Gitarrist und Songwriter Michael diesmal folgende Profis an Land gezogen: den Bassisten Günt von Schratenau (Hammer King), den Drummer Ivo Shandor (Lord Vigo) und als Sänger Bastian Rose (Vanish).

Es ist wieder ein toller Song von BASEMENT PROPHECY geworden, der von gleicher erlesener Qualität ist wie die bisherigen Werke. Im majestätischen Midtempo darf man sich an klassischen heavy Riffs erfreuen. Als Sänger ist Bastian auch bei seiner Band ‚Vanish‘ eine Koryphäe und zeigt auch hier, dass er ein verdammt großartiger Sänger ist. Er schenkt dem Song viel Gefühl, aber er schmiedet auch richtig viel Power hinein. Am Ende zieht das Tempo noch mal an, was dem Song ein furioses Finale beschert.

So bleibt zu hoffen, dass die Single „Rock Heaven“ wieder ein Startschuss für eine neue EP sein wird.

It was almost exactly one year ago when we reported about the musician Michael Müller and his project BASEMENT PROPHECY (Facebook). At that time he had released the EP „Trust The Universe“ with various well-known musicians (review). Before that, he had even released the single „Metal Zeit“ with the legendary Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), where Ralf had belted out the lyrics in German for the first time. And so it is with the new single!

The single cover is once again a blast and an absolute eye-catcher! But one has held back this time with the color scheme, so it has become less colorful, but no less epic!

Power Metal

BASEMENT PROPHECY (Facebook / Homepage) haben ich Euch schon einmal bei ‚metal-heads.de‘ vorgestellt. Denn im Dezember letzten Jahres hat Michael Müller als Gründer von BASEMENT PROPHECY etwas ganz besonderes an den Start gebracht. Dabei hat Michael Müller zusammen mit der genialen Metalröhre Ralf Scheepers (PRIMAL FEAR) zusammengearbeitet und die Single „Metal Zeit“ rausgebracht. Ein absolutes Novum war dabei, dass Ralf Scheepers erstmalig auf Deutsch seinen Text schmetterte.

Eine tolle Single, die mit über 70.000 Views belohnt wurde. Wer darüber noch mal was nachlesen möchte, der kann das hier tun. In dem Artikel werdet Ihr auch ein kleines Interview mit Michael Müller finden. Den Song gibt es hier noch mal direkt zu hören.

Nun hat sich Michael Müller nicht auf die faule Haut gelegt, sondern direkt sein nächstes Projekt in Angriff genommen, und zwar seine neue EP „Trust The Universe“.

Das Cover-Artwork

ist mal was anderes und verwöhnt die Augen mit einer etwas farbenfroheren Darstellung als man es im Metal gewohnt ist. Diese ganze Szenerie hat schon eine spirituelle, ja sogar transzendentale Ausstrahlung.

Namenhafte Musiker

haben sich wieder einmal um Michael Müller geschart, um dieses Projekt mit ihrem Glanz erstrahlen zu lassen. Die Instrumentalfraktion besteht neben Gitarrist Michael Müller aus folgenden Musikern:

An den Drums tobt sich Michael Ehre (The UNITY, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear) aus und wird von niemand Geringerem als Dennis Ward am Bass (Unisonic, PINK CREAM 69,Magnum) begleitet, um einen passenden Groove zu garantieren. Für melodische und atmosphärische Unterstützung an den Keys konnte Daniel Galmarini gewonnen werden. Für den Mix und das Mastering zeichen sich Dennis Ward und Dennis Koehne verantwortlich.

Die Vocals

sind nicht minder prominent besetzt und ich stelle sie der Reihe nach mit den Songs vor.

Getreu dem EP-Titel „Trust The Universe“ leitet das gleichnamige Intro das Album sehr majestätisch ein und bereitet den Hörer gekonnt auf die kommenden Tracks ein.

Es folgt der Track „The Calling“ mit hochmelodischem Riffing und galoppierenden Drums. Und dann ertönt die Stimme von Klaus Dirks (MOB RULES), der den Song hervorragend mit einer guten Portion Energie intoniert. Durch seine warmen Stimme erzeugt er tolle Harmonien. „The Calling“ ist ein klassischer Power Metal Song, der mit heroischem Feeling vorantreibt und sogar im Refrain noch mal einen Gang hochschaltet.

„When The Sign Has Come“ steigt gesanglich ein paar Oktaven höher ein und diese tollen Töne verdanken wir Sänger Alexx Stahl (BONFIRE). Ein hochgestimmter Frauenchor mit sirenenartigem Gesang sorgt für ein spezielles Feature. Der Song fliegt insgesamt etwas leichter (rockiger) und unbeschwerter durch den Himmel und ist noch melodischer ausgrichtet.

Der Überraschungshit mit Steffi Stuber

auf diesem Album ist für mich eindeutig „Lost In The Storm“, der in eine ganz andere Richtung tendiert. Und ich muss zugeben, dass ich mich besonders in diesen Song verliebt habe und dieser mir unter den ganzen hervorragenden Songs am besten gefällt. Das hat vor allem auch mit der ausgezeichneten Performance von Steffi Stuber zu tun, die mich hier zugleich völlig überrascht, aber auch überzeugt hat. Warum? Nun, ich hatte tatsächlich etwas anderes von ihr erwartet, denn sie ist ja eher für ihre harten Töne bei den Vocals bekannt.

„Lost In The Storm“ dagegen ist eine melancholische Power-Ballade vom allerfeinsten. Der Song beginnt mit schweren düsteren Pianoklängen, wozu Steffi mit wunderbaren cleanen Vocals einsteigt. Damit hat sie mich sofort gefangengenommen und mich über den Rest des Songs nicht mehr losgelassen. Ein Song mit maximum Gefühl und kraftvoller Ausstrahlung. Für mich ist es ein Song mit Hitpotenitial!

Mit Power zum Ende

Anschließend geht es mit „End Of The World“ wieder erheblich wuchtiger und rauer zur Sache und das Tempo wird angezogen. Die kernige und leicht rauchige Stimme gehört zu David Readman (PINK CREAM 69) und macht den Song zu einer aufputschenden und packenden Angelegenheit.

Auch im letzten Song „The Day After Tomorrow“ kommt ein wahres gesangliches Kraftpaket zum Einsatz. Das Tempo bewegt sich etwas gemächlicher im Mid-Tempo, aber nicht mit weniger Power. Die markante Röhre stammt von Herbie Langhans (FIREWIND & AVANTASIA), welche diesen Song zu einem fantastischen Epos werden lässt. Himmlische gesangliche Melodiebögen ergießen sich zusammen mit synfonischen Keys und einer gewohnt stimmigen Instrumentierung, die den ganzen Song zu einer verdammt starken Hymne werden lässt.

Fazit

„Trust The Universe“ ist eine rundum gelunge EP von BASEMENT PROPHECY. Jeder Song auf der Scheibe kommt super symphatisch rüber, geht sofort ins Ohr und sorgt dafür, dass man die EP in Dauerschleife laufen lässt. BASEMENT PROHPECY bieten hochklassigen POWER METAL.

Mit „Lost In The Storm“ zeigt man sogar noch eine andere interessante Facette, die sogar Hitpotential hat. Lediglich hätten es für meinen Geschmak das ein oder andere fetzige Gitarrensolo geben können. Würde mich jedenfalls freuen, wenn es irgendwann mal einen Nachschlag von BASEMENT PROPHECY geben würde.

is something different and spoils the eyes with a more colorful representation than is used to in metal normally. This whole scenery has a spiritual, even transcendental aura.

Well known musicians

have once again rallied around Michael Müller to make this project shine with their brilliance. The instrumental fraction consists of the following musicians besides guitarist Michael Müller:

On the drums Michael Ehre (The UNITY, Gamma Ray, Primal Fear) romps around and is accompanied by none other than Dennis Ward on bass (Unisonic, PINK CREAM 69, Magnum) to guarantee a suitable groove. For melodic and atmospheric support on the keys Daniel Galmarini could be won. Dennis Ward and Dennis Koehne are responsible for the mix and mastering.

The Vocals

are no less prominent and I present them in order with the songs.

True to the EP title „Trust The Universe“, the eponymous intro introduces the album very majestically and skillfully prepares the listener for the upcoming tracks.

The track „The Calling“ follows with highly melodic riffing and galloping drums. And then the voice of Klaus Dirks (MOB RULES) sounds, who intones the song excellently with a good portion of energy. Through his warm voice he creates great harmonies. „The Calling“ is a classic power metal song that drives forward with a heroic feeling and even shifts up a gear in the chorus.

„When The Sign Has Come“ climbs a few octaves higher vocally and we have singer Alexx Stahl (BONFIRE) to thank for these great tones. A high-pitched female choir with siren-like vocals makes for a special feature. The song flies altogether a bit lighter (rockier) and more unburdened through the sky and is even more melodically aligned.

The surprise hit with Steffi Stuber

on this album for me is definitely „Lost In The Storm“, which tends in a different musical direction. And I have to admit that I especially fell in love with this song and like it the most among all the good songs. This has mainly to do with the excellent performance of Steffi Stuber, who completely surprised me here at the same time, but also convinced me. Why? Well, I actually expected something different from her, because she is rather known for her hard tones on vocals.

„Lost In The Storm“ on the other hand is a melancholic power ballad at its best. The song begins with heavy gloomy piano sounds, to which Steffi enters with wonderful clean vocals. With this, she immediately captured me and did not let me go over the rest of the song. A song with maximum feeling and powerful charisma. For me it is a song with hit potential!

With power to the end

Subsequently, it goes with „End Of The World“ again considerably more massive and rougher to the point and the tempo is tightened. The pithy and slightly smoky voice belongs to David Readman (PINK CREAM 69) and makes the song an uplifting and gripping affair.

„The Day After Tomorrow“ as the last track also features a real vocal powerhouse. The tempo moves a bit more leisurely in mid-tempo, but not with less power. The distinctive tube comes from Herbie Langhans (FIREWIND & AVANTASIA), which makes this song a fantastic epic. Heavenly vocals together with symphonic keys and a coherent instrumentation, which makes the whole song a damn strong anthem.

Conclusion

„Trust The Universe“ is an all-around successful EP from BASEMENT PROPHECY. Each song on the disc comes across super symphatic, immediately catches the ear and ensures that the EP can be run in continuous loop. BASEMENT PROHPECY offer high class POWER METAL.

With „Lost In The Storm“ they even show another interesting facet, which even has hit potential. Only for my taste there could have been one or two groovy guitar solos. I would be happy if there would be a follow-up from BASEMENT PROPHECY sometime.

Denn durch deren Stärke, Beharrlichkeit und Kreativität konnten auch wir von ‚metal-heads.de‘ so gut es ging COVID-19 trotzen. Denn die Bands waren unheimlich einfallsreich und haben neben tollen Veröffentlichungen alles dafür getan, um den Fans etwas zu bieten.

So waren wir von ‚metal-heads.de‘ weiter in der Lage Euch mit tollen Berichten, Reviews und Interviews die Zeit zu versüßen. Und deshalb können wir auch am Ende des Jahres 2021 unsere Highlights präsentieren. Daher bin ich ebenfalls glücklicherweise wieder in der Lage METALHEADs persönliche Top List hier bei ‚metal-heads.de‘ zu präsentieren. Ich denke, dass meine Kollegen ihre Highlights ebenfalls noch verraten werden oder es schon haben. Doch bevor wir in den nächsten Tagen zu meinen top Alben von diesem Jahr kommen, möchte ich das vergangene Jahr in ‚Metalheads Jahresrückblick 2021 insgesamt Revue passieren lassen.

Illusionen

Leider muss man im Ergebnis festhalten, dass die sehnsüchtig erwartete Rückkehr der Normalität nicht stattgefunden hat. Stattdessen hatte uns COVID 19 auch 2021 fest im Würgegriff und lässt scheinbar immer noch nicht locker. Da bleibt vielen in der Musikbranche kaum noch Luft zum Atmen. Auch unser beliebtes Festival „Rage Against Racism“ musste wieder ausfallen.

Immerhin fanden einige Konzerte statt. Als Highlights seien hier beispielsweise das Heavy Mölltol Festival in Österreich (Bericht) statt, wo sich unser Redakteur Toto amüsieren durfte.

Redakteur Chipsy hatte seine Highlight in der Kulturfabrik Krefeld, wo die legendäre Band BLIND GUARDIAN ein super Konzert zum Besten gegeben hat (Bericht).

DOG EAT DOG sollten vielen (älteren) Fans auch noch ein Begriff sein. Die haben mit ihren Anhängern zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum des Albums „Play Games“ in Köln mächtig abgefeiert (Bericht)

Streaming Konzerte

sind bei Fans und Bands umstritten. Diese können natürlich kein Ersatz für ein richtiges authentisches Live-Konzert sein, aber die Reichweite solcher Konzerte ist nicht zu unterschätzen. Mittlerweile werden diese Art von Konzerte sehr professionell aufgezogen und können visuell und tontechnisch sehr überzeugen. Ein perfektes Beispiel dafür habe ich im November erleben dürfen. INFECTED RAIN (Facebook) haben mich mit einem sehr beeindruckenden Streaming-Event sehr gut unterhalten (Bericht). Bei dem aufgezeichneten Konzert wurde ein aufsehenerregender Auftritt hingelegt. Die Band selber gab volle Action und wurde visuell sehr imposant mit einer wahnsinnigen Lichtshow in Szene gesetzt. Das sind Alternativen, die zwar keinen Ersatz für ein richtiges persönliches Live-Erlebnis darstellen, aber bei guter Umsetzung doch sehr gut unterhalten können. Die Bands sind gezwungen in solchen Zeiten kreativ zu werden, egal in welcher Hinsicht.

Kultbands

ALICE COOPER (*04.02.1948!!!) ist einer der Kultstars schlechthin. Er hätte sich mit Sicherheit schon lange vom Musikgeschäft zurückziehen können, denn er hat musikalisch eine einzigartige Karriere über mittlerweile 5 Jahrzehnte hingelegt und alles erreicht, was man sich wünschen kann. Und doch brennt das Feuer noch in ihm. Er gibt noch Konzerte und produziert regelmäßig neue Alben. Dieses Jahr hat er uns mit „Detroit Stories“ beglückt. Unser Doc Rock hatte die Ehre sich diesem Album zu widmen (Review).

Einen Rekord in Sachen Kreativität haben z.B. LORDI hingelegt. Sie haben mal eben ganze SIEBEN Alben auf einmal veröffentlicht. Klingt verrückt! Ist es auch! Aber es sind eben LORDI. Auch wenn das ein kaum zu steigerndes Extrem ist, zeigt es doch, dass viele sich in das Komponieren von Musik flüchten, wobei natürlich die Hoffnung mitschwingt, dass man das ganze Material endlich auch mal wieder live abfackeln kann.

Nun, Michael Poulson von VOLBEAT hat zwar keine sieben Alben geschrieben, aber die Songs für das neue Album „Servant Of The Mind“ sind in einer Rekordzeit von nur drei Monaten geschrieben worden. Ich weiß es natürlich nicht genau, aber ich habe das Gefühl, dass Michael Poulson endlich mal wieder halbwegs befreit Songs schreiben konnte. Ansonsten kann ich mir nicht erklären, warum man in so kurzer Zeit ein für mein Verständnis tolles Album schreiben kann. Doch darauf komme ich in meiner Top List 2021 noch einmal zurück.

BLIND GUARDIAN

lassen wieder von sich hören. Und das betrifft nicht nur Live-Auftritte in diesem Jahr. Die legendäre Band hat die neue Single „Deliver Us From Evil“ präsentiert. Ein typischer BLIND GUARDIAN Song, wie man ihn sich wünscht. Viel Tempo! Viel Melodie! Monumental!

Aber jetzt müssen alle Fans stark sein. Denn das neue Album wird erst im Herbst 2022 erscheinen. Hoffen wir einfach auf einige Auskopplungen, die uns über die Zeit helfen werden.

HELLOWEEN

waren natürlich auch ein großes Thema dieses Jahr, als sie ihr selbstbetiteltes Album mit allen Sängern ihrer Geschichte veröffentlicht haben. Das Album wurde größtenteils positiv aufgenommen. In der Tat ist es ein gutes Album geworden, bleibt aber zumindest trotz einiger sehr guter Songs hinter meinen Erwartungen ein wenig zurück. Die Produktion ist mir auch ein wenig zu dünn ausgefallen. Leider trifft dies besonders auf die optisch fantastischen Picture Discs zu. Die sehen besser aus als sie klingen.

Sehr viel kontroverser

wurde der neueste Streich von IRON MAIDEN aufgenommen. Beim Album „Senjutsu“ scheiden sich die Geister. Die einen finden es genial, die anderen eher zum einschlafen. Zugegebenermaßen hat mich das Album nicht überzeugt. Aber ich kenne einige, die die Scheibe voll abfeiern. So ist das eben mit den Geschmäckern! Und das ist gut so!

Somit waren die Alben von RUNNING WILD und RHAPSODY OF FIRE leider auch nicht mein Fall. Dies sind beides Bands, die ich geliebt habe und die meine Metalzeit damals geprägt haben. Ich bin ein 75’er Jahrgang und in der heutigen Zeit bin ich von den Bands nicht mehr überzeugt. RUNNING WILD können nicht mehr an alte glanzvolle Zeiten anschließen und klingen angestaubt und langweilig. Die Songs von RHAPSODY OF FIRE sind nur noch auf Hochglanz getrimmt und die Gitarren verschwinden größtenteils hinter dem Gesang und den Synthies. Sehr sehr schade!

Ungewöhnlich kreativ

waren für mich unter anderem FORMOSA. Neben coolen Videos haben sie sich etwas ganz besonderes einfallen lassen. Es ist eine Sache, mit der man bei jedem Metalfan offene Türen einrennt und für Begeisterung sorgt. Es geht um BIER! NIK kann nämlich nicht nur geil Gitarre spielen, sondern ist auch gelernter Bierbrauer. Und so hat man sich gedacht, dass es eine Schande wäre, dieses Gabe nicht zu nutzen. Gesagt! Getan! Schwupp die wupp hat man sich für zwei Sorten entschieden. (Bericht/Interview) Interessenten wurden diese dann zur Verkostung per Boten nach Hause geschickt. Für nächstes Jahr hat man jedoch ein zünftiges Fest geplant, wo die Fans das Bier mit der Band persönlich verköstigen können. Hoffen wir mal, dass es auch wie geplant im März stattfinden kann.

Ungewöhnlich hilfsbereit

war die Band VEX (Facebook). Denn man darf nicht vergessen, dass neben dem verfluchten COVID 19-Virus weltweit andere Katastrophen allgegenwärtig sind. Und so weit muss man gar nicht reisen, um das festzustellen. Die Flutkatastrophe dieses Jahr in Deutschland hat Menschen das Leben gekostet und sehr vielen Menschen alles genommen. Das Ahrtal war davon sehr stark betroffen und die schöne Idylle wurde binnen weniger Stunden in ein Notstandsgebiet verwandelt. Warum VEX die Veröffentlichung ihrer neuen Single „Talking With The Dead Ones“ mit einer Spendenaktion für die Flutopfer verbunden hat, könnt Ihr hier noch einmal nachlesen.

Metal Is Forever

Einen ungewöhnlich hohen Einsatz für den Rock und Metal habe ich dieses Jahr durch die Show METAL-IS-FOREVER (Facebook) erfahren dürfen. Diese Show wurde von Ritchie Newton ins Leben gerufen. Als Auswanderer lebt er auf den Philippinen mit seiner Frau. Aber seine Bindung zu Deutschland und der Musik ist nie abgebrochen. Als Hauptmoderator strahlt er täglich auf YouTube um 20:00 h seine Sendung METAL-IS-FOREVER aus und hat dabei immer wieder unterschiedliche Bands als Interviewgäste parat und hält mit ihnen ein lockeres Schwätzchen. Dabei ist es egal, woher die Band oder der Künstler kommt. Dann wird halt English gesprochen, so gut es eben geht. Hauptsache der Spaß ist mit an Bord.

Glücklicherweise kann Ritchie auf ein kleines Team treuer Unterstützer zurückgreifen, die ihm bei der Sendung zur Seite stehen. So wird eine unterhaltsame Sendung präsentiert, wobei immer eine delikate Auswahl an Musikvideos eingestreut wird. Ich halte das für eine super Sache und das Engagement dafür ist wirklich unbeschreiblich groß.

METAL-ZEIT

Ein herausragendes Cover ist zum Ende des Jahres BASEMENT PROPHECY (Facebook) gelungen. Hinter diesem Projekt steckt Michael Müller. Dieser mag vielen bisher noch kein Begriff sein, aber sein Gastsänger für den aktuellen Cover-Song „Metal-Zeit“ wird jeder kennen. Kein Geringerer als Ralf Scheepers, seines Zeichens Sänger bei PRIMAL FEAR, hat dem Song „Metal-Zeit“ seine Stimme geschenkt. Und jetzt passt gut auf! Er hat zum ersten Mal auf Deutsch gesungen. Es ist eine megageile Metal-Hymne geworden. Interview mit Michael Müller gibt es hier und den Song könnt Ihr direkt hier hören.

Noch ne Hymne…

IGNITION (Facebook) hatten Gelegenheit bei einer coolen Aktion ihre Talente einzusetzen. Dabei durften sie ein Cover vom „Duisburg-Lied“ machen, welches im Original von Philipp Eisenblätter stammt. Das Original ist schon ziemlich lässig, aber IGNITION haben eine deftigen Deutsch-Rock-Song daraus geschmiedet, der schön Dampf macht. Eine geile Hymne für Duisburg! Da hat es sich sogar unser Chefredakteur als stolzer Einwohner Duisburgs nicht nehmen lassen, darüber einen Bericht zu schreiben (Link). Mit den Impressionen des dazugehörigen Videos möchte ich meinen Jahresrückblick abschließen. A big thank you to the bands, fans and everyone else,

who stood up for music, especially for Rock and Metal. Because through their strength, perseverance and creativity, we at ‚metal-heads.de‘ were also able to defy COVID-19 as best we could. Because the bands were incredibly resourceful and have done everything in addition to great releases to offer the fans something.The year is coming to an end! ‚metal-heads.de‘ was able to defy COVID 19 thanks to the strength and perse. So we from ‚metal-heads.de‘ were able to sweeten your time with great reports, reviews and interviews. And we can present our highlights at the end of this year. Therefore I am fortunately again able to present METALHEAD’s personal Top List here at ‚metal-heads.de‘. I think my colleagues will also reveal their highlights or already have. But before we come to my top albums of this year in the next few days, I would like to review the year as a whole.

Illusions

Unfortunately, we have to conclude that the eagerly awaited return to normality did not happen. Instead, COVID 19 had us also 2021 firmly in a stranglehold and apparently still does not let go. That leaves many in the music industry in a damn hard situation. Also our popular festival „Rage Against Racism“ had to be cancelled again.

After all, some concerts took place. Highlights include the Heavy Mölltol Festival in Austria (report), where our editor Toto was able to enjoy himself.

Editor Chipsy had his highlight in the Kulturfabrik Krefeld, where the legendary band BLIND GUARDIAN gave a great concert (report).

DOG EAT DOG should be known to many (older) fans. They celebrated the 25th anniversary of the album „Play Games“ with their fans in Cologne (report).

Streaming Events

are controversial among fans and bands. Of course, these can’t be a substitute for a real authentic live concert, but the reach of such concerts should not be underestimated. Meanwhile, these kinds of concerts are put on very professionally and can be very convincing visually and sound-wise. I was able to experience a perfect example of this in November. INFECTED RAIN (Facebook) entertained me very well with a very impressive streaming event (report). The concert featured a sensational performance. The band itself gave full action and was visually very impressive with an insane light show. These are alternatives that are no substitute for a real in-person live experience, but can be very entertaining if done well. Bands are forced to get creative in such times, no matter in which respect.

Legends

ALICE COOPER (*04.02.1948!!!) is truely one of the music legends. He could certainly have retired from the music business long ago, because he has musically a unique career over now 5 decades and achieved everything you can wish for. And yet the fire still burns in him. He gives concerts and regularly produces new albums. This year he made us happy with „Detroit Stories“. Our Doc Rock had the honor to dedicate himself to this album (Review).

LORDI, for example, have set a record in terms of creativity. They have just released a whole SEVEN albums at once. Sounds crazy! But they are LORDI. Even if this is an extreme that can hardly be increased, it shows that many take refuge in composing music, whereby of course the hope resonates that all the material can finally be torched live again.

Well, Michael Poulson of VOLBEAT didn’t write seven albums, but the songs for the new album „Servant Of The Mind“ were written in a record time of only three months. I don’t know exactly, of course, but I have the feeling that Michael Poulson was finally able to write songs with his heart again. Otherwise I can’t explain why one can write an album (that is great for my understanding) in such a short time. But I will come back to this in my Top List 2021.

BLIND GUARDIAN

let us hear from them again. And this concerns not only live performances this year. The legendary band has presented the new single „Deliver Us From Evil“. A typical BLIND GUARDIAN song, how you want it to be. A lot of tempo! Great melodies! Monumental!

But now all fans must be strong. Because the new album will not be released until the fall of 2022. Let’s just hope for some releases that will help us over time.

HELLOWEEN

were of course also a big topic this year when they released their self-titled album featuring all the singers in their history. The album was received positively for the most part. In fact, it has become a good album, but falls a little short of my expectations, at least despite some very good songs. The production also turned out a bit too thin for me. Unfortunately, this is especially true of the visually fantastic picture discs. They look better than they sound.

Much more controversial

the fans talked about the latest album of IRON MAIDEN. The album „Senjutsu“ divides the spirits. Some find it brilliant, others rather to fall asleep. Admittedly, the album has not convinced me. But I know some, who celebrate the disc fully. That’s the way it is with the tastes! And that’s good!

Thus the albums of RUNNING WILD and RHAPSODY OF FIRE were unfortunately also not my case. These are both bands that I loved and that shaped my metal time back then. I was born 1975 and now I´m not convinced by these bands anymore. RUNNING WILD can no longer connect to old glorious times and sound dusty and boring. The songs of RHAPSODY OF FIRE are only trimmed to high gloss and the guitars disappear mostly behind the vocals and synths. Very very sad!

Unusually creative

were for me, among others, FORMOSA. Besides cool videos, they have come up with something very special. It’s a thing with which you catch every Metal fan. It’s about BEER! NIK can not only play cool guitar, but is also a skilled brewer. And so it was thought that it would be a shame not to use this gift. Said! Done! In no time at all, they decided on two types of beer. (Report/Interview) Interested parties were then sent home by messenger for tasting. For next year one planned however a zünftiges celebration, where the fans can taste the beer with the volume personally. Let’s hope that it can also take place as planned in March.

Unusually helpful

was the band VEX (Facebook). Because one must not forget that besides the cursed COVID 19 virus, other catastrophes are omnipresent worldwide. And you don’t have to travel that far to realize that. The flood disaster this year in Germany cost people their lives and took everything from very many people. The place around Ahrtal was very much affected by it and the beautiful idyll was turned into an catastrophy area within a few hours. Why VEX combined the release of their new single „Talking With The Dead Ones“ with a fundraising campaign for the flood victims, you can read here again.

Metal Is Forever

An unusually high commitment to rock and metal I have experienced this year through the show METAL-IS-FOREVER (Facebook). This show was created Ritchie Newton. As an expatriate, he lives in the Philippines with his wife. But his bond with Germany and music has never broken. He broadcasts his show METAL-IS-FOREVER every day on YouTube at 20:00 h and always has different bands ready as interview guests and holds a casual chat with them. It doesn’t matter where the band or artist comes from. English is spoken as well as possible. The main thing is to have fun. Fortunately, Ritchie can rely on a small team of loyal supporters to help him with the show. So an entertaining show is presented, with a delicate selection of music videos always interspersed. I think this is a super thing and the commitment to the music really indescribable.

METAL-ZEIT

At the end of the year, BASEMENT PROPHECY (Facebook) managed to produce an outstanding cover. Behind this project is Michael Müller. Many people may not know him yet, but everyone will know his guest singer for the current cover song „Metal-Zeit“. None other than Ralf Scheepers, singer of PRIMAL FEAR, has given his voice to the song „Metal-Zeit“. And now pay attention! He sang in German for the first time. It has become a great Metal anthem. Interview with Michael Müller can be found here and you can listen to the song directly here.

IGNITION

had the opportunity to use their talents in a cool promotion. They were allowed to do a cover of the „Duisburg Lied“, which was originally written by Philipp Eisenblätter. The original is already pretty casual, but IGNITION (Facebook) forged a hefty German rock song out of it that goes briskly forward. A cool anthem for Duisburg! Even our chief editor, as a proud resident of Duisburg, didn’t miss the chance to write a report about it (link). With the impressions of the corresponding video I would like to conclude my review of the year. In the next days I will present you my top albums of the year 2021 and invite you cordially.

Metal wird niemals sterben!

Was damals begann, hat die Jahrzehnte überdauert und Metal ist in all seinen Facetten ist angesagt wie nie zuvor. Jüngst hat das Projekt BASEMENT PROPHECY die Single „Metal Zeit“ veröffentlicht, die man wohl als eine wahre Hymne für den Metal bezeichnen kann. Das dachte sich wohl auch die Legende Ralf Scheepers, als er von Michael Müller gefragt wurde, ob er diesem Song nicht seine Stimme leihen würde.

Ralf Scheepers als Sänger von der bekannten Band PRIMAL FEAR schmettert uns Ralf seit langer Zeit seine geniale Stimme entgegen. Das ist pure Energie. Allerdings hat er noch nie in deutscher Sprache gesungen…. Bis jetzt!

Die Hymne „Metal Zeit“

Ralf hat sich dem Song gestellt, der im Original von der Band DAALSCHLAG (Facebook) ins Leben gerufen wurde. Michael Müller und Ralf Scheepers haben dem Song eine Frischzellenkur verpasst, die dem Song noch mehr Dampf, Druck und Energie injiziert. Ein perfekter Heavy Metal Song! Ralf Scheepers hat die Herausforderung mit Bravour gemeistert und haut den deutschen Text voll hammermäßig raus. Er ist eben ein wahrer Profi!

Natürlich haben wir es uns von ‚metal-heads.de‘ nicht nehmen lassen und haben Michael Müller zu diesem Song und seinem Projekt BASEMENT PROPHECY einige Fragen zu stellen. Netterweise hat sich Michael Müller dafür die Zeit genommen und so könnt Ihr erfahren, wie es zu diesem Song kam.

Interview mit Michael Müller

Metalhead: Hallo Michael! Freut mich sehr, dass Du Dir die Zeit für einige Fragen nehmen möchtest. Denn Zeit ist etwas, was Du momentan wahrscheinlich viel zu wenig hast.

Michael: Hi! Ich bin zur Zeit echt überwältigt, aber ich nehme mir sehr gerne Metalzeit für dich. Danke für Euer Interesse.

Metal ist laut!

Metalhead: Erzähl uns doch kurz etwas zu Deiner Person! Wann und wie hat Deine Metalzeit angefangen? (Wie sind Deine musikalischen Erfahrungen bisher, nicht nur als Fan, sondern auch als Gitarrist?)

Michael: Ich komme aus einer Musiker Familie. Mein Vater und  mein Bruder haben mir das in die Wiege gelegt. Eigentlich wollte ich Drummer werden, war aber zu laut für meine Mutter in einer Mietswohnung. Von meinem Bruder bekam ist dann so mit ca. 10 Jahren meine erste Gitarre als Geschenk.

Dann stellte ich fest, das man damit auch viel Krach machen konnte. Da bin ich dabei geblieben. Die Beatles haben meine Anfänge geprägt. Weiter ging es mit den Scorpions, Accept, Helloween, Running Wild, Judas Priest und Iron Maiden. Diese Musik hat mich bis heute geprägt. Das betriff auch meine Art die Gitarre zu spielen. Ich spielte in verschiedenen Bands. Angefangen als Jugendlicher. Später ging es dann professioneller zu mit Harridan und Srained.

Gitarre reichte nicht!

Metalhead: In den Songs begeisterst Du mit Deinen Gitarrenkünsten. Bist Du auch noch ein Meister an anderen Instrumenten?

Michael: Ja… Es kann nur einen geben! Man bezeichnet mich ja auch noch zusätzlich als Multi-Instrumentalist. Ich kann neben Gitarren die Drums bedienen, auch den Bass und ein bisschen auch die Keys. Das reicht, um die Songs zu schreiben.

Geburt von BASEMENT PROPHECY

Metalhead: Jeder wird sich fragen, wie Du auf die Idee mit BASEMENT PROPHECY gekommen bist. Also wann und wie kam es zu der Geburt von BASEMENT PROPHECY?

Michael: Nach der geilen Zeit bei meiner Cover Band SRAINED hatte ich viele Song-Ideen auf meinem Rechner, die ich unbedingt mal fertig machen wollte. Weil das Ganze sich bei mir im Keller (Englisch Basement) im Homestudio abgespielt hat und ich nicht wusste, wo die Reise hingeht (Prophecy, Englisch Prophezeiung), passte BASEMENT PROPHECY sofort.

Namenhafte Mitstreiter

Metalhead: Du hast bei den bisherigen vier Singles mit diversen Gastsängern zusammengearbeitet. Kanntest Du die alle schon vorher oder wie kam der Kontakt jeweils zustande? Wie sieht es bei den Instrumentalisten aus? Hast Du dort ein festes Line Up mit Michael Ehré (Drummer GAMMA RAY) und Martin Motnik (Bassist ACCEPT)?

Michael: Michael Ehré habe ich kennengelernt über Frank Beck, der Sänger bei meiner Cover Band SRAINED war und jetzt bekanntlich mit Kai Hansen bei GAMMA RAY die Vocals bedient.

Martin Motnik habe ich über meine Freundin Tanja Hansen kennengelernt bei einem ACCEPT Konzert. Sie kannte ihn von früher als er noch bei DARKSEED den Bass spielte. Das war ein lustiger Abend, von dem ich nicht gedacht hätte, das der solche Kreise ziehen würde…

Beim Songwriting stelle mir verschiedene Stimmen vor, die passen würden, dann nehme ich Kontakt mit den Musikern auf und  alle hatten bisher großen Spaß an der Zusammenarbeit. Das klappt wunderbar bis jetzt, weil sich auch jeder selbst einbringen kann und ich wenig Vorgaben mache.

Die Metalrakete

Metalhead: Den Songs gemeinsam ist die Welt des Metal. Doch sind die Songs in ihrer Art sehr verschieden. Ist Dein Geschmack in der Hinsicht breit gefächert? Worauf legst Du besonderen Wert bei der Musik?

Michael: Mich muss ein Song mitnehmen vom Sound, Groove und der Power her, die er bei mir erzeugt. Auch das Feeling muss stimmen. Dann passt das bei mir. Mir muss der Song auch selbst Spaß machen.

Metalhead: Nun hast Du die ganz neue Single-Rakete „Metal-Zeit“ gezündet. Und die ist tatsächlich mit Vollgas abgehoben. Überall findet man nur positive Reaktionen darauf. Sie ist direkt mal auf Platz 72 der Amazon Charts eingestiegen und hat bei YouTube nach kurzer Zeit weit über 40.000 Klicks. Hast Du damit gerechnet?

Michael: Ich hatte im Gefühl, dass es gut abgeht. Ich hab nicht erwartet, dass es SO gut abgeht, aber es gehofft. Und ich freue mich natürlich tierisch, dass es so gut ankommt und die Menschen so viel Spaß mit dem Song haben. Ich bekomme begeistertes Feedback.

Die Legende Ralf Scheepers

Metalhead: Für die neue Single „Metal-Zeit“ hast Du den einzigartigen Ralf Scheepers (Sänger PRIMAL FEAR) gewinnen können, der quasi schon eine Legende der Metal-Szene ist. „Metal Zeit“ ist ein Song mit deutschem Text. Zugegebenermaßen war ich deshalb im Vorfeld etwas skeptisch, weil ich deutsche Texte mit Heavy Metal nicht so in Verbindung bringe. Deutsch ist ja eher im Bereich NDH, Metalcore und Punk zu Hause. 

Wie ist das abgelaufen? Wie hast Du ihn überzeugen können diesem Song seine unverwechselbare Stimme zu verleihen? Im Ergebnis hat er die Aufgabe tatsächlich mit Bravour gemeistert.

Michael: Für „Metal Zeit“ hab ich mir gewisse Stimmen vorgestellt. Als allererstes fiel mir Rob Halford von Judas Priest ein. Die Sprache war die Hürde..Ha,ha,ha! An zweiter Stelle kam mir direkt die Stimme von Ralf Scheepers in den Sinn. Daraufhin habe ich mir den Mut gefasst, ihn anzuschreiben und ihm von Metalzeit erzählt. Zuerst war Ralf skeptisch, weil es ein deutschsprachiger Song ist. Ralf hat noch nie einen Power Metal Song auf Deutsch gesungen.

Ich habe ihm daraufhin meine Version von Metalzeit, sowie das Original von der Moped-Metal-Band DAALSCHLAG geschickt. Man muss wissen, dass „Metal Zeit“ tatsächlich ein Cover-Song ist. Ralf hat den Song gehört und war so begeistert, dass er mir 3,5 Stunden später den Song komplett fertig zugesandt hatte – inklusive Backings. Ich bin auch sehr begeistert und auch überrascht, wie schnell und professionell Ralf arbeitet.

Tribute to JUDAS PRIEST

Metalhead: „Metal Zeit“ ist sehr klassisch umgesetzt. Traditioneller Heavy Metal mit prägnanten Riffs und einem flotten Tempo. War es angesichts der Thematik direkt klar, dass es in diese Richtung gehen wird?

Michael: Wie ich bereits sagte, ist „Metal Zeit“ ein Cover-Song von DAALSCHLAG. Ich hatte das direkt in meinem Kopf, „Metal Zeit“ im Stil von Judas Priest umzusetzen und  setzte mich daher mit Claus Wiechert von DAALSCHLAG in Verbindung. Dieser gab mir das „Ok“ und schon ging´s los. „Metal Zeit“ ist genauso geworden, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe: Ein Judas Priest Song mit den passenden Musikern und mit einem glänzenden Ralf Scheepers am Gesang.

Internationale Reaktionen

Metalhead: Ist der Song auch international gut angekommen? Wird es den Song vielleicht auch in Englisch oder anderen Sprachen geben? Das wäre bei solchen Hymnen ja nicht so ungewöhnlich.

Michael: International ist „Meta Zeit“ z. B. sehr gut in Spanien, Russland und Italien angekommen. Überraschend für mich. Puh, das ist Zukunftsmusik, ob es den Song auch auf Englisch geben wird. Ein paar Anfragen gab es daher tatsächlich. „Metal Zeit“ lebt vor allen Dingen von der deutschen Sprache und ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob er in Englisch noch genauso gut wirkt. Dass „Metal Zeit“ auch auf Deutsch in anderen Ländern gut ankommt, zeigt mir, dass es auf Deutsch genau richtig ist. Klar, wenn man mit einem Ralf Scheepers an den Vocals an den Start geht, hat man natürlich die Reichweite. Aber das besondere ist halt, das Ralf Scheepers das erste mal einen Power Metal Song auf Deutsch singt. Mit dem Text identifiziert sich natürlich jeder Metal-Fan.

Das Video mit echten Fans

Metalhead: Das Video ist für das Thema dieses Songs optimal umgesetzt worden. Ohne viel Schnickschnack wird der Focus auf das Wichtigste gelegt, nämlich auf Ralf und Dich als Künstler und nicht zu vergessen auf die ganz „normalen“ Metal-Fans. Wer hatte die Idee und wie ist das Video entstanden?

Michael: Die Grundidee kam von Michael Vetter, der Gitarrist und Gründer der deutschen Power Metal Band BLACK & DAMNED ist und der sich im Video-Business gut auskennt und daher professionelle Videos nicht nur für seine eigene Band dreht. Er hat also Erfahrung bei Videodrehs. Michael kennt Ralf persönlich. Das vereinfachte die Zusammenarbeit zwischen uns Dreien. Der Videodreh selbst fand im Schwabenländle unter Michael´s Regie statt und hat uns allen Dreien sehr viel Spaß gemacht.

METAL IS FOREVER ROCKCAST SHOW

Metalhead: Das Video zu „Metal Zeit“ feierte bei einer ganz besonderen Show vor der offiziellen Veröffentlichung Premiere, und zwar bei der ‚Metal-Is-Forever-Show‘ (Facebook), die täglich um 20:00 h bei YouTube ausgestrahlt wird. Die Show wird ja neben anderen Labels auch von ‚Rock Of Angel Records‘ supported, die nun ebenfalls offiziell Deine Single „Metal Zeit“ vermarkten. Erzähl doch mal, wie es zu dieser Zusammenarbeit kam.

Michael: Die „Metal Is Forever Rockcast Show“ mit Ritchie Newton fand ich durch Zufall im Internet. Wobei… Es gibt ja keine Zufälle… Das hat mich sofort an die 90er-Jahre-Sendung Headbanger´s Ball erinnert und ich fand das sofort cool. Wie es in der Metal-Szene so ist, fand ich bei der „Metal is Forever Show“ Leute wieder, die ich bereits kannte. Ritchie bot mir an, als VIP Member in den Metal is Forever Fanclub ein- und somit mit Basement Prophecy in der Rockcast Show aufzutreten. Wir hatten ein tolles Interview, bei dem auch Martin Motnik (Bassist Accept), Tommy Laasch (Sänger meines Songs Beyond Awareness) und Tanja Hansen (Sängerin meines Songs Guardians of the Light und The Silence of the Tide) anwesend waren.

Über diese Sendung kam der Kontakt zu Rock of Angels Records, die „Metal Zeit“ exklusiv unter Vertrag nahmen.

Pläne für ein Album

Metalhead: Jetzt hast Du einige Singles veröffentlicht. Werden da die Schreie der Fans nach einem Album nicht lauter? Oder besteht nicht auch selber der Wunsch ein komplettes Album zu releasen?

Michael: Das ist im Moment die Frage, die mir jeder stellt. Sicher sind die Fans heiß auf ein Album und wenn ich nicht Vollzeit einen Beruf ausüben würde, wäre das sicher drin. Mein Konzept sind aber die Single-Veröffentlichungen, die bestenfalls noch ein Video mit am Start haben. So hab ich länger Spaß und die Metalheads können sich immer wieder in kürzeren Abständen auf was Neues freuen, als dann jahrelang auf ein Album warten zu müssen. So ist´s doch eigentlich eine win-win-Situation für alle. Lieber Qualität als Quantität.

Träume und Ziele

Metalhead: Welche Ziele hattest Du am Anfang Deines Projekts? Wie weit willst Du überhaupt mit dem Projekt gehen? Ich meine, jetzt ist die Rakete endgültig gezündet. So eine Rakete hat ja keinen Rückwärtsgang. Also kann es doch nur eines geben: Vollgas nach vorne! Oder?

Michael: Ziele: Keine. Nee, Quatsch, ich wollte natürlich Rockstar werden. Ich wollte mal schauen, wo mich das Universum hinleitet. Mein Wunsch ist jetzt aber, dass einfach viele Menschen meine Musik hören und sie ihnen gefällt. Ich hab Freude, wenn die Metalheads Freude haben. Deswegen ist es doch toll und es fühlt sich richtig gut an, wenn ich das Feedback bekomme, dass meine Songs bei ihnen ankommen. Das motiviert mich weiterzumachen. Der nächste Song ist schon in Arbeit… Lasst euch überraschen!

Metalhead: Nachdem Du mit BASEMENT PROPHECY selber für ein musikalisches Highlight zum Ende des Jahres gesorgt hast, würde mich interessieren, was darüber hinaus für Dich persönlich ein musikalisches Highlight des Jahres 2021 war.

Michael: MYSTIC PROPHECY, MANIMAL und ECLIPSE haben mir  musikalisch dieses Jahr versüßt.

Wichtiger ist mir aber, die verschiedenen und doch gleichschwingenden Menschen kennen zu lernen, sich zu begegnen und sich gegenseitig zu bereichern. Viele neue Menschen sind in mein Leben getreten. Gerade in dieser verrückten Zeit ist das sehr stärkend.

Heavy Metal will never die!

What started back then has survived the decades and Metal in all its forms is hot as never before. Recently, the project BASEMENT PROPHECY (with founder Michael Müller) released the single „Metal Zeit“ that can probably be called a true hymn for Metal. This is probably what the legend Ralf Scheepers thought when he was asked by Michael Müller to lend his voice to this song.

Ralf Scheepers as the singer of the well-known band PRIMAL FEAR, Ralf has been belting out his brilliant voice to us for a long time. This is pure energy. However, he has never sung in German!…. Until now!

The Metal anthem „Metal Zeit“

Ralf has faced the song, which was originally created by the band DAALSCHLAG. Michael Müller and Ralf Scheepers have pumped the song with a fresh energetic injection, which has given the song even more steam, pressure and energy. A perfect heavy metal song! Ralf Scheepers has mastered the challenge with bravura and has hit the German lyrics full hammermäßig out. He is a true professional!

Metal is loud!

Metalhead: Tell us something about yourself! When and how did your Metal time start? (How are your musical experiences so far, not only as a fan, but also as a guitarist)?

Michael: I come from a family of musicians. My father and my brother put it into my cradle. Actually I wanted to become a drummer, but it was too loud for my mother in a rented apartment. My brother gave me my first guitar as a present when I was about 10 years old. Then I found out that you could make a lot of noise with it. So I stayed with it.

The Beatles have shaped my beginnings. I continued with the Scorpions, Accept, Helloween, Running Wild, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. This music has influenced me until today, also my way of playing the guitar. I played in different bands. Started as a teenager. Later it became more professional with Harridan and Srained.

Guitar was not enough!

Metalhead: In the songs you inspire with your guitar skills. Are you also a master on other instruments?

Michael: Yes… There can be only one! I am also called a multi-instrumentalist. I can play the drums, also the bass and a little bit the keys. That’s enough to write the songs.

Origin of BASEMENT PROPHECY

Metalhead: Everybody will ask how you came up with the idea of BASEMENT PROPHECY. So when and how did it come to the birth of BASEMENT PROPHECY?

Michael: After the great time with my cover band SRAINED I had a lot of song ideas on my computer that I really wanted to finish. Because the whole thing took place in my basement (English Basement) in my home studio and I didn’t know where the journey was going (Prophecy), Basement Prophecy fit immediately.

Well-known comrades

Metalhead: You have collaborated with various guest singers on the four singles so far. Did you know them all before or how did the contact come about? What about the instrumentalists? Do you have a fixed line up with Michael Ehré (drummer GAMMA RAY) and Martin Motnik (bassist ACCEPT)?

Michael: I got to know Michael Ehré through Frank Beck, who was the singer in my cover band SRAINED and now, as you know, does the vocals with Kai Hansen in GAMMA RAY.

I met Martin Motnik through my girlfriend Tanja Hansen at an ACCEPT concert. She knew him from before when he played bass with Darkseed. That was a funny evening, which I didn’t think would go around in such circles…

In songwriting, I imagine different voices that would fit, then I contact the musicians and everyone has had great fun working together so far. This works wonderfully so far, because everyone can also contribute themselves and I make few guidelines.

The Metal rocket

Metalhead: The songs have in common the world of metal. But the songs are very different in their nature. Are your tastes broad in that respect? What do you attach particular importance to in the music?

Michael: I have to be taken away by the sound, groove and power of a song. Also the feeling must be right. Then it fits with me. The song must also be fun for me.

Metalhead: Now you have ignited the brand new single rocket „Metal-Zeit“. And it really took off at full throttle. Everywhere you find only positive reactions to it. It went straight to number 72 in the Amazon charts and has well over 40.000 clicks on YouTube after a short time. Did you expect that?

Michael: I had a feeling that it would go down well. I didn’t expect it to go down so well, but I hoped it would. And of course I’m really happy that it goes down so well and that people have so much fun with the song. I get enthusiastic feedback.

The legend Ralf Scheepers

Metalhead: For the new single „Metal-Zeit“ you could win the unique Ralf Scheepers (singer PRIMAL FEAR), who is truely a legend of the metal scene. It’s a song with German lyrics. Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical beforehand because I don’t associate German lyrics with Heavy Metal. German is more at home in NDH, Metalcore, Punk, Rock. How did that work out? How did you convince him to give this song his distinctive voice? As a result, he actually mastered the task with bravura.

Michael: For Metalzeit I had certain voices in mind. The very first one that came to mind was Rob Halford from Judas Priest. The language was the hurdle. In second place the voice of Ralf Scheepers came directly to my mind. Thereupon I plucked up the courage to write to him and told him about „Metal Zeit“. At first Ralf was skeptical because it’s a German language song. Ralf has never sung a power metal song in German before.

I then sent him my version of „Metal Zeit“, as well as the original by the Metal Band DAALSCHLAG. You have to know that „Metal Zeit“ is actually a cover song. Ralf heard the song and was so enthusiastic that 3.5 hours later he sent me the song completely finished – including backings. I am also very excited and also surprised how fast and professional Ralf works.

Tribute to JUDAS PRIEST

Metalhead: „Metal Zeit“ is very classically implemented. Traditional Heavy Metal with concise riffs and a brisk tempo. Given the subject matter, was it immediately clear that it would go in this direction?

Michael: As I said before, „Metal Zeit“ is a cover song of DAALSCHLAG. I had that directly in my head, Metalzeit in the style of Judas Priest to convert and therefore contacted Claus Wiechert of DAALSCHLAG. He gave me the ok and off we went. „Metal Zeit“ turned out exactly as I imagined it: A Judas Priest song with the right musicians and with a shining Ralf Scheepers on vocals.

International reactions

Metalhead: Has the song been well received internationally? Will the song perhaps also be available in English or other languages? That wouldn’t be so unusual for such anthems.

Michael: Internationally, Metalzeit has been very well received in Spain, Russia and Italy, for example. Surprising for me. Phew, that’s future music, whether the song will also be available in English. There have actually been a few inquiries. „Metal Zeit“ lives above all from the German language, and I’m not sure if it will work just as well in English. The fact that „Metal Zeit“ is also well received in German in other countries shows me that it is just right in German. Of course, if you start with a Ralf Scheepers on vocals, you have the range. But the special thing is that Ralf Scheepers sings a power metal song in German for the first time. Of course every Metal fan identifies with the lyrics.

The video with true Metal fans

Metalhead: The video has been optimally implemented for the theme of this song. Without much frills the focus is put on the most important thing, namely on Ralf and you as an artist and not to forget on the „normal“ metal fans. Who had the idea and how did the video come into being?

Michael: The basic idea came from Michael Vetter, who is guitarist and founder of the German power metal band BLACK & DAMNED and who knows the video business well and therefore shoots professional videos not only for his own band. So he has experience in video shoots. Michael knows Ralf personally. That simplified the cooperation between the three of us. The video shoot itself took place in Swabia under Michael’s direction and was a lot of fun for all three of us.

METAL IS FOREVER ROCKCAST SHOW

Metalhead: This video for „Metal-Zeit“ premiered at a very special show before the official release, namely at the ‚Metal-Is-Forever-Show‘ (Facebook), which is broadcast daily at 20:00 h on YouTube. The show is supported by ‚Rock Of Angel Records‘ among other labels, who are now also officially marketing your single „Metal-Zeit“. Tell us how this collaboration came about.

Michael: I found the ‚Metal is Forever Rockcast Show‘ with Ritchie Newton by chance on the internet. Whereby… There are no coincidences… It immediately reminded me of the 90s show Headbanger’s Ball and I thought it was cool right away. As it happens in the Metal scene, I found people I already knew at the Metal is Forever show and Ritchie offered me to join the Metal is Forever fan club as a VIP member and thus appear with BASEMENT PROPHECY on the Rockcast show. We had a great interview where also Martin Motnik (bassist Accept), Tommy Laasch (singer of my song Beyond Awareness) and Tanja Hansen (singer of my song Guardians of the Light and The Silence of the Tide) were present.

Through this show I got in contact with Rock of Angels Records, who signed Metalzeit exclusively.

Complete album!

Metalhead: Now you have released a few singles. Aren’t the fans‘ cries for an album getting louder? Or is there not also the desire to release a complete album?

Michael: That’s the question that everyone is asking me at the moment. Surely the fans are hot for an album and if I wouldn’t have a full-time job, that would certainly be possible. But my concept are the single releases, which at best have a video at the start. That way I have fun longer and the metalheads can always look forward to something new in shorter intervals than having to wait for years for an album. So it’s actually a win-win situation for everyone. Better quality than quantity.

Dreams and plans

Metalhead: What were your goals at the beginning of your project? How far do you want to go with the project? I mean, now the rocket has finally ignited. Such a rocket has no reverse gear. So there can only be one thing: Full speed ahead! Isn’t it?

Michael: Targets: None. No, nonsense, I wanted to become a Rock star, of course. I wanted to see where the universe would lead me. But my wish now is that just many people listen to my music and like it. I have joy when the metalheads have joy. That’s why it’s great and it feels really good when I get the feedback that my songs resonate with them. That motivates me to continue. The next song is already in the works… Let’s surprise you.

Highlights

Metalhead: After you yourself provided a musical highlight at the end of the year with BASEMENT PROPHECY, I would be interested to know what else was a musical highlight of the year 2021 for you personally.

Michael: MYSTC PROPHECY, MANIMAL and ECLIPSE have sweetened this year musically for me.

But more important for me is to get to know the different and yet same-swinging people, to meet and enrich each other. Many new people have come into my life. Especially in these crazy times this is very strengthening.
