„Deciphering Torment Through Malediction“ von Black Sorcery (28.07.23)
[English version below!]

Some affairs end in rage and wild frenzy. And others are just starting out that way. Black Sorcery’s „Deciphering Torment Through Malediction“ is such a case. The US band’s debut album is an aggressive, vicious and pitch-black gem.
The one-minute intro impresses with acoustic guitar melodies. But something is brewing in the background. Wind rushing or lamentation in the distance, that’s not so easy to say. Black Sorcery’s first full-length player immediately convinces with its characteristic, driving drums. And these aren’t that heavy on blastbeats at all, but rush forward with rough, fast snare banging. It also seems that you can no longer get hold of them at all. Above that are completely insane-looking, mean-aggressive screams. The guitars give the whole thing a really heavy, old-school punch. The album chases from one track to the next in this way. Catch a deep breath is not in it.
„Deciphering Torment Through Malediction“ by Black Sorcery: Brutal parts non-stop
Occasionally the stringed instruments build up soloistic moments. But these melodies are usually quickly broken up again in a slanted or dissonant way. All in all, the harmonies and riffs in particular contour the songs in their own way. And that’s exciting with Black Sorcery’s „Deciphering Torment Through Malediction“: Because the album isn’t harsh, raw or even monotonous. Rather, the tracks basically string together such passages that are contained elsewhere exclusively as high-speed elements in atmospheric, melodic Black Metal songs. As if someone had simply removed the brute parts from epic black metal anthems and created new songs from them. It has something of a black scree avalanche that seems to get faster and faster on the way down and simply sweeps everything away.
