Vor einer Woche wurde hier das neue Album „Game Of Faces“ von DYNAZTY angekündigt. Und nun wird das Review dazu geliefert. DYNAZTY sind eine Macht im Bereich Power Metal. Ich mache keinen Hehl daraus, dass ich Nils Molin für einen der besten Sänger in diesem Genre halte und ein Fan von ihm bin. „The Dark Delight“ (2020) war für mich ein echter Meilenstein, wobei mich das Nachfolgealbum „Advent“ nicht ganz so sehr aus den Puschen gehauen hat. Ein gutes Album trotzdem, wo die Band ein wenig experimenteller unterwegs war, aber mir es schlussendlich ein wenig zu zurückhaltend gewesen ist. Nun, mit Zurückhaltung ist es jetzt vorbei, denn „Game Of Faces“ gibt Vollgas.

Ja, ich war nach „Advent“ sehr gespannt, wohin die Richtung gehen würde. Und ich darf schon mal ein kleines Fazit nach dem ersten Durchhören vorwegnehmen:

„Game Of Faces“ ist ein Burner!

Natürlich bekommt man das, was man von DYNAZTY erwartet. Ein Füllhorn von fantastischen Melodien mit einem grandiosen Sänger, eben 100% DYNAZTY. „Game Of Faces“ klingen düsterer als auf „Advent“ und wandeln wieder auf härteren Pfaden. Selbstverständlich klingt alles noch schön ausgewogen und harmonisch. Einen Sound wie bei ‚Grave Digger‘ sollte man also nicht erwarten und doch bin ich stellenweise vom knackigen Härtegrad überrascht gewesen. Der Opener „Call Of The Night“ legt gleich zu Beginn schon mal ein flottes Tempo vor und führt das Album sehr anständig ein. Der Instrumantalpart mit dem fetzigen Gitarrensolo hat eine schöne rockige Note.

Diesen rockigen Touch bekommt man immer wieder zwischendurch geboten. So auch beim Song „Die To Survive“, der für DYNAZTY-Verhältnisse relativ rifflastig auftritt, viel Kraft ausstrahlt und dazu mit einen traumhaften Chorus ausgestattet ist. In eine ähnliche Richtung tendiert das fordernde „Sole Survivor“, dass eine inspirierende heroische Megahymne geworden ist, die auch irgendwie Party-Feeling versprüht.

DYNAZTY dosieren die Phasen, wo die Gitarrenriffs präsenter sind, aber wenn sie kommen, geben sie dem Sound eine gute Portion Stärke und Kraft. Ein gutes Beispiel für den ansprechenden Mix offenbart auch der Titeltrack „Game Of Faces“.

Wie immer sind die Songs so konstruiert, dass Nils Molin als Sänger regelmäßig seine große Bühne bekommt. So fällt auf, dass die starken aggressiven Riffs oft reinhauen, wenn Nils nicht singt und dann zurückgefahren werden, wenn seine Stimme erklingt. Dies wird z.B. bei einem Song wie dem dynamischen „Dark Angel“ recht deutlich, der viele Facetten vorzuweisen hat. Eine Facette sind die schweren Riffs, die genau zweimal in dem Song für zehn Sekunden einen Angriff starten ( ab Minute 00:34 und 01:41).

Dahingehend beweisen DYNAZTY auf „Game Of Faces“ wieder mehr Mut, indem sie häufiger härtere Akzente setzen, sei es mit massiven oder auch schärferen Riffs. „Fire To Fight“ hat z.B. etwas von dieser schärferen Würze und feuert ein furioses Finale ab. Auch „Devilry Of Ecstasy“ braucht sich nicht verstecken, denn der Song rockt auch sehr gut ab. Hier seien ebenso die immer wieder bestechenden Gitarrensolos erwähnt, die man fortwährend auf dem Album genießen kann.

Und während ich mich so das erste Mal durch das Album hörte und das Ende des Albums näher rückte, war ich verwundert keine Ballade zu hören, aber dann kam sie doch. „Dream Of Spring“ als vorletzter Song entschleunigt die ganze Geschichte. Natürlich einwandfrei vorgetragen und schön anzuhören, aber ich muss ehrlicherweise zugeben, dass ich sie nicht unbedingt gebraucht hätte.

Und es wundert mich, dass man den Track nicht als ruhigen Ausläufer an den Schluss gesetzt hat. Denn anschließend drehen DYNAZTY noch einmal mit dem Song „Mystery“ mächtig auf. Bei dem pompösen Chorus kamen mir sogar eine Sabaton-Analogie in den Sinn.

Fazit

DYNAZTY liefern mit „Game Of Faces“ ihr bislang stärkstes Album. Das Album ist ein wahrer Genuß für jeden Fan des melodischen Metal. Es sind hervorragend arrangierte Songs, die dem Albumtitel entsprechend verschiedene Gesichter zeigen, dabei aber zu 100 % die Seele von DYNAZTY verkörpern. Sie schicken den Hörer auf eine höchst unterhaltsame Reise, die man immer wieder von vorne beginnen möchte, denn die Songs haben echt Suchtpotential.

A week ago, the new album „Game Of Faces“ by DYNAZTY was announced here. And now the review is delivered. DYNAZTY are a force in the field of power metal. I make no secret of the fact that I think Nils Molin is one of the best singers in this genre. „The Dark Delight“ (2020) was a real milestone for me, although the follow-up album „Advent“ didn’t blow me away quite as much. A good album nonetheless, where the band was a little more experimental, but in the end it was a little too restrained for me. Well, restraint is now a thing of the past, because „Game Of Faces“ is full of power.

Yes, after „Advent“ I was very excited to see where the direction would go. And I can already make a small conclusion after the first listen:

„Game Of Faces“ is a burner!

Of course you get what you expect from DYNAZTY. A cornucopia of fantastic melodies with a great singer, 100% DYNAZTY. „Game Of Faces“ sounds darker than on „Advent“ and is back on a heavier path. Of course, everything still sounds beautifully balanced and harmonious. You shouldn’t expect a sound like ‚Grave Digger‘ and yet I was surprised by the crisp heaviness in places. The opener „Call Of The Night“ sets a brisk tempo right at the beginning and introduces the album very decently. The instrumental part with the groovy guitar solo has a spicy rocky note.

You get this rocking touch every now and then. This is also the case with the song „Die To Survive“, which is relatively riff-heavy by DYNAZTY standards, radiates a lot of power and is also equipped with a fantastic chorus. The demanding „Sole Survivor“, which has become an inspiring heroic anthem that also somehow exudes a party feeling, tends in a similar direction.

DYNAZTY dose the phases where the guitar riffs are more present, but when they come, they give the sound a good portion of strength and power. The title track „Game Of Faces“ is another good example of the appealing mix.

As always, the songs are constructed in such a way that Nils Molin regularly gets his big stage as a singer. It’s noticeable that the strong, aggressive riffs often kick in when Nils isn’t singing and are scaled back when his voice is heard. This becomes quite clear, for example, on a song like the dynamic „Dark Angel“, which has many facets. One facet is the heavy riffs, which launch an attack exactly twice in the song for ten seconds (from minute 00:34 and 01:41).

In this respect, DYNAZTY show more courage again on „Game Of Faces“ by setting heavier accents more often, be it with massive or even sharper riffs. „Fire To Fight“, for example, has some of this sharper spice and fires off a furious finale. Devilry Of Ecstasy“ doesn’t need to hide either, because the song also rocks very well. The captivating guitar solos, which can be enjoyed throughout the album, should also be mentioned here.

And while I was listening to the album for the first time and the end of the album was approaching, I was surprised not to hear a ballad, but then it came. „Dream Of Spring“, the penultimate song, slows the whole story down. Of course, it’s perfectly performed and nice to listen to, but I have to admit that I didn’t really need it.

And I’m surprised that they didn’t put this track at the end as a quiet filler. Because DYNAZTY then turn up the heat once again with the song „Mystery“. The pompous chorus even made me think of a Sabaton analogy.

Conclusion

DYNAZTY deliver their strongest album to date with „Game Of Faces“. The album is a real treat for every fan of melodic metal. The songs are excellently arranged and, in keeping with the album’s title, show different faces while embodying 100% of DYNAZTY’s soul. They invite the listener on a highly entertaining journey that you want to start all over again, because the songs have real addictive potential.
