Melancholisches Post-Black-Metal-Debütalbum: „The Atheist“ von Three Eyes Of The Void (bereits vö.)
[English version below!]
„The Atheist“ von Three Eyes Of The Void: Absolut zeitgemäßer Post-Black-Metal
Insgesamt ist „The Atheist“ von Three Eyes Of The Void ein wunderbar athmosphärisches und melancholisches Epos. Mehr progressiv als aggressiv. Unkompliziert, aber komplex. Und absolut zeitgemäß.
The story behind “The Atheist” by Three Eyes Of The Void: Dmytro Kvashnin’s one-man studio project recorded an EP/mini-LP in 2017. The subsequent attempt to record an entire album failed due to the search for additional musicians. That’s because the album was supposed to be played live afterwards. At the end of 2021, the remaining instrumentalists were finally found and the debut album could be released in October 2023. And you shouldn’t miss it!
The debut album “The Atheist” by the Ukrainian-Polish cooperation is thematically and lyrically self-explanatory. But musically it is a work with a few surprises. Namely with a lot of musical twists, of which the use of a piano or bass solo is probably even more expected than, for example, a saxophone. The music is driving, but over and over again the album becomes quiet, almost thoughtful, for long stretches.
“The Atheist” by Three Eyes Of The Void: Absolutely contemporary post-black metal
Clean vocal passages over quiet parts like in “No More Light” move the music far away from black metal and post black metal. Then the music is solemn and spherical, giving the instruments space to unfold. And that’s not necessarily a given, especially with solo projects. Overall, “The Atheist” by Three Eyes Of The Void is a wonderfully atmospheric and melancholic epic. More progressive than aggressive. Uncomplicated, but complex. And absolutely contemporary.
