Der Bandname BUCKCHERRY (Homepage/Facebook) ist offensichtlich eine Umgestaltung von dem legendären Chuck Berry. Das Rock-Urgestein Chuck Berry war einer der Mitgründer des Rock `n‘ Roll. Seine zeitlosen Songs wie“Johnny B. Goode“, „Roll Over Beethoven“, „Maybellene“ sorgen bei mir immer noch für Begeisterung und pures Party-Rock ’n‘ Roll-Feeling. Nun sind seit diesen Songs einige Jahrzehnte vergangen, doch Rock ’n‘ Roll steht immer noch hoch im Kurs. Und deshalb wollen BUCKCHERRY uns mit ihrer Art der Rockmusik im 20. Jahrhundert begeistern.

Nun aber zu BUCKCHERRY, die ja auch schon sind lange aktiv sind und keine Unbekannten mehr. Sie sind sehr erfolgreich, sind viel auf Tour und waren bereits bei riesigen Headliner-Tourneen an der Seite von Künstlern wie Steel Panther und Alice Cooper. Jetzt aber zum aktuellen Album

„Roar Like Thunder“.

Der Titelsong hatte die Ehre vor drei Monaten den ersten Eindruck vom Album zu liefern. Tja, was soll ich sagen…. Das Ding haut voll rein und hat mich megamäßig mitgerissen und mir ein Dauergrinsen beschert. Denn energiegeladener tempogeimpfter Rock ist genau mein Ding. „Roar Like Thunder“ ist wie ein Pfeil, der einfach zielgenau geradeaus mit hohem Tempo ins Schwarze trifft. Mehr gibt es dazu nicht zu sagen. Anhören und genießen!

Nach dem ersten geilen Hit geht es unverfroren weiter mit „When The Sun Goes Down“. Ebenfalls flott unterwegs hat dieser Song noch extra coole fetzigen Vibes in der Hinterhand. Mit ordentlich Drive und Strom in den Adern pumpen euch BUCKCHERRY ordentlich die Schuhe auf. Und dann folgt mit „Come On“ noch ein Hommage an den urtypischen AC/DC-Sound, der mich sofort in den Bann zieht. Eine absolut geile Nummer, die richtig Bock macht. Also die ersten drei Songs knallen voll rein. Kann man das Niveau halten?

Ja! „Talkin‘ About Sex“ ist ne grandios lässige Nummer mit einem unwiderstehlichen Groove und einem modernen Touch. Das Thema des Songs sorgt ohnehin für frivolen Spaß. Und so klingt der Song auch. Unbeschwert locker vom Hocker mit einer frechen Attitüde! Und so geht es auch mit „Blackout“ weiter, dass wieder mehr Blues innehat.

„Set It Free“ ist ein leichter melodischer Song, der es ruhiger angehen lässt. Ein unaufdringliche Nummer, die im Radio sicherlich ne gute Figur macht, mir aber ein wenig zu langweilig geraten ist, weswegen ich hier nicht unbedingt auf die Wiederholen-Taste drücken würde. Das Video dazu ist allerdings sehr reizvoll.

„Hello Goodbye“ als tragende Ballade geht für mich in eine ähnliche Richtung. Es hört sich schön an, aber es packt mich nicht so wie andere Songs auf dem Album. Wie immer ist das eine Frage des persönlichen Geschmacks. Handwerklich ist alles ohnehin erste Sahne. Da gibt es keinen Anlass zur Kritik. Am Ende des Albums haben „Machine Gun“ und „Let It Burn“ noch mal mehr Pfeffer im Sound, wobei „Let It Burn“ es titelgemäß noch einmal richtig knallen lässt. So gefällt mir das!

Fazit

BUCKCHERRY donnert mit „Roar Like Thunder“ ein rundum famoses Rockalbum raus. Der Sound bedient verschiedenen Arten des Rock und schwankt in den Welten zwischen AC/DC und Aerosmith. Soll heißen, dass es mal feurig deftig zur Sache geht, dann lässig fetzig mit Blues-Pfeffer gewürzt, aber auch mal mit seichten poppigen Attitüden. Somit ist ein schöner Mix entstanden, der handwerklich meisterhaft gerockt wird, so dass man sich die Platte wunderbar von vorne bis hinten anhören kann. (Dies geschieht leider ziemlich schnell, denn die Platte schafft mit ihrer Spielzeit knapp die 30-Minuten-Hürde. Da dürfte es schon ein wenig mehr sein, gerade was den Gegenwert beim Kauf der physischen Releases angeht.)

The band name BUCKCHERRY (Homepage/Facebook) is obviously a reworking of the legendary Chuck Berry. The rock veteran Chuck Berry was one of the co-founders of rock ’n‘ roll. His timeless songs such as „Johnny B. Goode“, „Roll Over Beethoven“ and „Maybellene“ still get me excited and give me that pure party rock ’n‘ roll feeling. A few decades have passed since these songs, but rock ’n‘ roll is still very much in vogue. And that’s why BUCKCHERRY want to inspire us with their kind of rock music in the 20th century.

But now to BUCKCHERRY, who have been busy for a long time and are well known in the scene. They are very successful, tour a lot and have already been on huge headlining tours alongside artists such as Steel Panther and Alice Cooper. But now to the current album

„Roar Like Thunder“.

The title track had the honor of providing the first impression of the album three months ago. Well, what can I say…. This thing really hits the spot and really got me going and gave me a permanent grin. Because energetic, up-tempo rock is exactly my thing. „Roar Like Thunder“ is like an arrow that simply hits the bull’s eye straight on at high speed. There’s not much more to say about it. Listen and enjoy!

After the first great song, the album continues unabashedly with „When The Sun Goes Down“. This song also has some extra cool, groovy vibes to offer. With plenty of drive and electricity in their veins, BUCKCHERRY really pump up your shoes. And then comes „Come On“, another homage to the typical AC/DC sound, which immediately captivates me. An absolutely awesome number that really gets you going. The first three songs really hit the spot. Can they keep up the level?

Yes, „Talkin‘ About Sex“ is a terrific, laid-back number with an irresistible groove and a modern touch. The theme of the song makes for frivolous fun anyway. And that’s how the song sounds. Carefree and easy from the stool with a cheeky attitude! And so it continues with „Blackout“, which has more blues in it again.

„Set It Free“ is a slightly melodic song that takes a calmer approach. An unobtrusive number that certainly cuts a good figure on the radio, but is a little too boring for me, which is why I wouldn’t necessarily press the repeat button here. However, the video is very appealing.

For me, „Hello Goodbye“ as the main ballad goes in a similar direction. It sounds nice, but it doesn’t grab me like other songs on the album. As always, it’s a question of personal taste. In terms of craftsmanship, everything is top notch anyway. There’s nothing to criticize. At the end of the album, „Machine Gun“ and „Let It Burn“ have even more pepper in their sound, with „Let It Burn“ really letting it rip once again in keeping with its title. That’s how I like it!

Conclusion

With „Roar Like Thunder“, BUCKCHERRY shoot out an all-round fantastic rock album. The sound serves different types of rock and travels between the musical worlds of AC/DC and Aerosmith. In other words, it’s sometimes fiery and hearty, then casually groovy and spiced with blues pepper, but also sometimes with light pop attitudes. The result is a beautiful mix that is masterfully rocked, so that the record is wonderful to listen to from beginning to end. (Unfortunately, this happens rather quickly, as the record barely reaches the 30-minute mark with its playing time. A little longer playing time would be nice, especially in terms of the equivalent value when buying the physical releases).
