COSMIC JAGUAR (Facebook) aus der Ukraine haben ihr neues Album „El Era Del Jaguar“ veröffentlicht. Das letzte Album „The Legacy Of The Aztecs“ befasste sich ebenfalls mit der Mythologie bzw. Geschichte rund um das Thema der Azteken. Das Thema wird nun fortgesetzt. Wen man die Einordnung der Band berücksichtigt, sollte jedem klar sein, dass COSMIC JAGUAR keinen „normalen“ Thrash Metal kloppen. Es gibt keine Songs, die einfach strukturiert von vorne bis hinten durchgeprügelt werden. Hier geht es erheblich vertrackter zur Sache und zum Teil sind die Songs wirklich so verrückt, dass sie für mich echte Jazz-Vibes versprühen. Daher wird es sicherlich kein Album für die Massen sein, aber für aufmerksame Hörer, die sich für technisch aufwendige Songs jenseits der Normalität begeistern können, ist es wohl ein echtes Vergnügen.

Chaos mit Methode

Der Sound auf dem neuen Album ist etwas satter geworden und hat mehr Druck auf dem Kessel. An dem musikalischen Prinzip hat sich nichts geändert. Die Songs sind vollgepackt mit technischen Kunststücken. Das Songwriting ist unheimlich komplex und unvorhersehbar. Es gibt kaum eingängige Passagen, denn das Songwriting folgt keinem bestimmten Muster. Hier werden ständig die Richtungen gewechselt und wenn man nicht aufpasst, dann verliert man schnell die Orientierung im Geflecht des instrumentalen Chaos. Doch das Chaos hat Methode und offenbart eine wahres Feuerwerk musikalischer Fertigkeiten. Mach euch am besten mal selbst einen Eindruck, damit jeder weiß, worum es hier überhaupt geht. Auch die Wahl mancher klassischer Instrumente ist Teil des Programms und sorgt für ganz spezielle Momente, wie hier z.B. die Töne einer Flöte.

Kein musikalisches Fast Food

Na, konntet ihr dem Song folgen? Gar nicht so einfach, was? Doch der progressive Ansatz hat auch was für sich. Auch bei der zehnten Wiederholung findet man immer wieder Dinge, die man vorher nicht wahrgenommen hat. Es ist unmöglich die Songs bei den ersten Wiederholungen zu begreifen. Man kann nicht alles aufnehmen und verarbeiten. Es ist ein Album, in das man sich tatsächlich reinhören muss, um seine Qualität zu erkennen. Wer diese Mission scheut, wird keine Freude an diesem Album haben. Alle anderen, die sich auf die anspruchsvolle Reise begeben, werden erstaunliche Momente erleben und sich an den herausragenden Fähigkeiten der Musiker nicht satt hören können.

Mein persönliches Juwel ist der Song „Ashes In Eyes“, der im Vergleich mit den anderen Songs noch relativ eingängig daherkommt. Die Vocals auf dem Album sind eigentlich durchweg extremer Natur, doch bei diesem Song wird man plötzlich und unerwartet zusätzlich von einer cleanen weiblichen Stimme verwöhnt. Sie fügt sich hervorragend geschmeidig in den Song ein. Es ist einer der am wenigsten verrückten Songs auf dem Album, aber strotzt trotzdem vor beeindruckender Spielfertigkeiten. In der Mitte des Albums ist dieser Song perfekt plaziert.

Fazit

Das Album „El Era Del Jaguar“ von COSMIC JAGUAR ist sicherlich kein musikalisches Fast Food Menü, sondern es werden hochwertige musikalisches Gerichte kredenzt, die mit allerlei Zutaten und teils exotischen Gewürzen für eine intensive Erfahrung sorgen. Es ist eine Erfahrung, die man eventuell nicht auf Anhieb vollständig begreift, denn es ist kompliziert und verrückt. Aber genau das macht die Spannung aus! Wer die anspruchsvolle Reise nicht scheut, wird erstaunliche Momente erleben und sich an den herausragenden Fähigkeiten der Musiker nicht satt hören können. Nebenbei kann man sich aber auch bei dem sehr energievollen und aggressiven Sound hervorragend den Nacken zerstören. Trotzdem hätte es für meinen Geschmack insgesamt mehr Eingängigkeit bzw. Einfachheit sein dürfen.

The theme is now being continued. Considering the band’s classification, it should be clear to everyone that COSMIC JAGUAR don’t play „normal“ thrash metal. There are no songs that are simply beaten through from front to back in a simple structured manner. It’s a lot more intricate here and some of the songs are really crazy, giving off a real jazz vibe and more for me. So it certainly won’t be an album for the masses, but for attentive listeners who are enthusiastic about technically elaborate songs that go beyond the norm, it’s a real treat.

Chaos reigns

The sound on the new album has become better and has more pressure. Nothing has changed in terms of the musical principle. The songs are packed with technical tricks. The songwriting is incredibly complex and unpredictable. There are hardly any catchy passages, because the songwriting doesn’t follow any particular pattern. There are constant changes of direction and if you’re not careful, it’s easy to lose your bearings in the web of instrumental chaos. But there is a method to the chaos and it reveals a veritable firework of musical skills. It’s best to make your own impression so that everyone knows what this is all about. The choice of some classical instruments is also part of the program and provides very special moments, such as the sounds of a flute here.

No musical fast food

So, were you able to follow the song? Not so easy, is it? But there’s something to be said for the progressive approach. Even on the tenth repetition, you keep finding things that you didn’t notice before. It’s impossible to understand the songs on the first few repetitions. You can’t absorb and process everything. It’s an album that you really have to listen to in order to recognize its quality. Those who shy away from this mission will not enjoy this album. Everyone else who embarks on the challenging journey will experience amazing moments and will not be able to get enough of listening to the musicians‘ outstanding skills.

My personal gem is the song „Ashes In Eyes“, which is still relatively catchy compared to the other songs. The vocals on the album are actually extreme throughout, but on this song you are suddenly and unexpectedly treated to a clean female voice. It fits perfectly and smoothly into the song. It’s one of the least crazy songs on the album, but still bristles with impressive playing skills. This song is perfectly placed in the middle of the album.

Conclusion

The album „El Era Del Jaguar“ by COSMIC JAGUAR is certainly not a musical fast food menu, but rather a high-quality musical dish that uses all kinds of ingredients and sometimes exotic spices to create an intense experience. It’s an experience that you might not fully grasp straight away, because it’s often complicated and crazy. But that’s exactly what makes it so exciting! Those who don’t shy away from the challenging journey will experience amazing moments and won’t be able to get enough of listening to the musicians‘ outstanding skills. The energetic and aggressive sound is also a great way to destroy your neck. Nevertheless, for my taste there could have been more catchiness and simplicity overall.
