CRYPTOSIS (Facebook) haben bereits auf ihrem Debüt „Bionic Swarm“ aus dem Jahr 2021 mächtig Dampf gemacht. Da war viel explosiver Treibstoff für Moshpits vorhanden und mehr als genügend Power, um sich den Schädel vom Nacken zu wirbeln. Das klang alles sehr vielversprechend und deshalb war ich mehr als gespannt, was die Jungs aus Enschede nun nachlegen würden. Vier Jahre hat es nun doch gedauert, doch jetzt ist es so weit. Das neue Album „Celestial Death“ ist raus.

Brachial brutal

und verdammt düster prügeln sich CRYPTOSIS durch die extreme Metalwelt. Die technischen Fähigkeiten sind sehr beachtlich und entfalten eine kraftvolle wilde Dynamik. Drummer Marco ballert hier eine gnadenlos grandiose Show, die für Bewunderung sorgt. Doch damit ist er glücklicherweise nicht alleine, denn die gesamte Band eifert nach Extremen, um den Sound in allen Bereichen absolut hochwertig zu präsentieren.

CRYPTOSIS legen viel Wert auf hochdynamische Songs mit stürmischen Auswüchsen. was neben den ballernden Drums auch an der starken Gitarrenarbeit liegt, die mit zerfetzenden Riffs und wilden Leads stets für ungezügelte Attacken sorgen. Jedoch zeigt man sich auch gerne mal von einer anderen Seite und nimmt den Speed raus ohne an Kraft und Ausstrahlung zu verlieren. Die Songs folgen somit keinem starren Muster.

Da kommt es auch mal zu harten Schnitten, wenn man sich beispielsweise den Song „Ascending“ anhört. Der recht flott treibende Song wird in Minute 01:40 mal für kurze Zeit völlig runtergebremst. In dieser riffbefreiten Phase dominieren Drums und Bass in Verbindung mit dem harschen Gesang von Laurens . Das ist mutig und hat Charakter. Mir gefällt so etwas.

Was mir an dem Album weniger gefällt, sind die instrumentalen Tracks, wobei der Schlusstrack „Coda, Wanderer Into The Light“ als Rausschmeißer noch ganz gut funktioniert. Die Einleitung „Prolouge-Awakening“ und das Zwischenspiel „Motionless Balance“ sind aber komplett überflüssig und wirken eher simpel und uninspiriert, vor allem angesichts der anspruchsvollen Songs auf dem Album. Das war schon auf dem Debüt so.

Denn CRYPTOSIS erschaffen auch mächtige Soundgebirge, was sich in Songs wie „Reign Of Infinite“ oder „Static Horizon“ besonders eindrucksvoll offenbart. Komplexe Songstrukturen sind ebenfalls eine Disziplin, die sie mittlerweile sehr gut beherrschen. Das war in dieser Form auf dem Debüt „Bionic Swarm“ noch nicht so ausgereift, wenn ich z.B. an „Prospect Of Immortality“ zurückdenke.

Die neuen Songs entfalten auch mal ohne furiose Speed-Attacken eine durchdringende Atmosphäre, die aus Fäden von dunklem Unheil und vernichtender Aggression gesponnen wird. Dies unterstreicht wieder die Weiterentwicklung in der hohen Kunst des Songwritings. Die atmosphärische Dichte hat dabei ebenfalls zugenommen und der Sound hat an Größe gewonnen bzw. ist monumentaler geworden.

Fazit

CRYPTOSIS sind wie ein höllischer Tornado und auf ihrem Album „Celestial Death“ haben sie ihre Klaviatur der unheilvollen Zerstörung auf eine neues Level gehoben. Mit diesem Album haben sie jedenfalls ein extrem starkes Statement gesetzt, um sich in der Topliga der Szene zu etablieren. Ich bin mir sicher, dass wir von CRYPTOSIS noch vieles erwarten können.

CRYPTOSIS (Facebook) already kicked up a storm on their 2021 debut „Bionic Swarm“. There was plenty of explosive fuel for mosh pits and more than enough power to blow your head off. It all sounded very promising and so I was more than excited to see what the guys from Enschede would come up with next. It has taken four years, but now the time has come. The new album „Celestial Death“ is out.

Brachially

and damn dark, CRYPTOSIS thrash their way through the extreme metal world. The technical skills are very impressive and unfold a powerful, wild dynamic. Drummer Marco shoots out a mercilessly grandiose show that will leave you in awe. Fortunately, he is not alone in this, as the entire band strives for extremes in order to present the sound with brutal strong quality in all areas.

CRYPTOSIS attach great importance to highly dynamic songs with stormy excesses. This is not only due to the blasting drums but also to the strong guitar work, which always provides unbridled attacks with shredding riffs and wild leads. However, they also like to show a different side and take out the speed without losing power and charisma. The songs therefore don’t follow a rigid pattern.

There are also some hard cuts when you listen to the song „Ascending“, for example. The song, which is quite fast-paced, is slowed down completely for a short time at minute 01:40. In this riff-free phase, drums and bass dominate in combination with Laurens‘ harsh vocals. This is courageous and has character. I like that kind of thing.

What I like less about the album are the instrumental tracks, although the closing track „Coda, Wanderer Into The Light“ still works quite well as an ending out for the story. However, the introduction „Prolouge-Awakening“ and the interlude „Motionless Balance“ have no sense for me and seem rather simple and uninspired, especially in view of the demanding songs on the album. This was already the case on the debut.

CRYPTOSIS also create mighty mountains of sound, which is particularly impressive in songs like „Reign Of Infinite“ or „Static Horizon“. Complex song structures are also a discipline that they have mastered very well. This wasn’t as mature on their debut „Bionic Swarm“, when I think back to „Prospect Of Immortality“, for example.

Even without furious speed attacks, the new songs unfold a penetrating atmosphere spun from threads of dark doom and devastating aggression. This once again underlines the further development in the high art of songwriting. The atmospheric density has also increased and the sound has become more monumental.

Conclusion

CRYPTOSIS are like a hellish tornado and on their album „Celestial Death“ they have raised their art of malicious destruction to a new level. With this album, they have made an extremely strong statement to establish themselves in the top league of the scene. I’m sure we can expect a lot more from CRYPTOSIS.
