Now Or Never (2023), Southern Kicks (2014), All In (2010), Little Monsters (2007), Hearts & Bones (2003).
Greatest Kicks

To Hell And Back Again“ freuen.
„King Of Life“ entflieht dem leichten spritzigen Rock ’n‘ Roll.

There are times when you get a little annoyed when you discover such a great band like KICKHUNTER (Facebook/Homepage) from Hamburg so late. The rousing old-school rock ’n‘ roll sound is exactly my cup of tea. The band was founded in 2000 by guitarist Stefan Aurel and drummer Karsten Kreppert. The core formation currently consists of 9!!! members. KICKHUNTER have released five albums so far:
Now Or Never (2023), Southern Kicks (2014), All In (2010), Little Monsters (2007), Hearts & Bones (2003).

KICKHUNTER immediately put a big grin on my face with the first few notes. Their music is a highly effective injection of good feelings. There are a lot of „wild emotions“ that are unleashed on the album and this casually cool track is just the right igniter to set off the rock ’n‘ roll fireworks.
The sound of a Hammond organ always makes me go crazy. Yes, and in other respects, too, the band brings out everything that makes for great rock ’n‘ roll. Fascinating, electrifying guitar work is paired with lively drums, a groovy bass and great vocals. Singer JC Wesenberg handles the songs superbly. It’s great fun to listen to him. But it also exudes a cool flair when he gets female support from singer Melanie Kirschke.
In view of their high-quality performances, I’m not surprised that KICKHUNTER have already played with famous bands. In 2003, they toured Europe with DEEP PURPLE and LYNYRD SKYNYRD. In 2013, they accompanied US southern rock legends MOLLY HATCHET on their German tour and have also been regular guests at various festivals such as the Harley Days in Hamburg. Unfortunately, there was a break of 9 years after the release of „Southern Kicks“ in 2014. But fortunately, KICKHUNTER returned last year with the fantastic release „Now Or Never“, which I also highly recommend.
Party from start to finish!
KICKHUNTER have a huge pool of super-explosive rock grenades that set such a great mood that even Death would grin and play guitar on his scythe. He would also be particularly pleased with the song „To Hell And Back Again“. It goes off like hell and is also a hell of a lot of fun. It’s phenomenal how the guitars let off steam here, which you can admire especially from minute 02:10 onwards. And the monumental introduction with the opulent sounds of a mighty church organ on „Another Tear“ definitely falls into the „I didn’t expect“ category!
The band’s versatility and creativity is not only evident here. There are a multitude of songs that cover a wide range and impressively demonstrate different facets. The result is an album that gives you 77 minutes of the purest, hottest rock ’n‘ roll. It’s difficult to pick out individual songs as personal highlights. However, one of my favorites is „Child Of Love“, for example, where they got none other than the great singer Zak Stevens (known from SAVATAGE, among others) to re-record the song with him. It’s so cool how the song starts off casually cool, only to get completely out of control later on. It’s super crazy what’s rocked out here in almost six minutes!
„King Of Life“ escapes the light, lively rock ’n‘ roll. It is a heavy, powerful song with an initially slightly doomy attitude. There’s also a crisp portion of blues when I listen to the solo. It’s unbelievable how cool it sounds again. With a lot of blazing heaviness, KICKHUNTER unleash a real banger on „Louder & Faster“ that couldn’t be more rousing. Songs like „Motherlode“ are no less captivating, but seem lighter and livelier.
And then…. Baaaaam! The door to the saloon flies open and „Smile Smile Smile!“ makes its appearance and brings full swing to the party. I love the piano with its cheerful, lively vibes. According to its title, the song has funny spirit and ensures that the guests are in each other’s arms and dancing on the tables. I love the piano with its cheerful, lively vibes. According to its title, the song rocks with a huge dose of fun. The female vocals are the fine, sweet icing on the cake of a song that simply spreads cheerfulness and floods the body with happiness.
„Feels Like Home“ on the other side is more emotional and thoughtful. As a ballad, it exudes a light country note and enchants with enchanting vocals that are wonderful to lose yourself in. The last track „I Sing This Song Forever“ is also a ballad and is presented with orchestral accompaniment, which lends the whole thing a majestic dignity and thus gives the album a crowning finale, so to speak.
KICKHUNTER have not just put together an exquisite selection of their songs on their Best Of album and put a bow on them, but have given all the songs (except for those from the last album) a makeover. There was a comprehensive remastering and even a remixing for six songs, all by the great music producer Eike Freese.
Conclusion
The best-of album „Greatest Kicks“ by KICKHUNTER is a colorful, loud and rousing rock ’n‘ roll firework. The songs are pure pleasure and will ignite flaming enthusiasm in everyone! If you like excellent old school rock ’n‘ roll, you definitely can’t miss this collection of top-class songs. Check out this damn hot record!
