NEW HORIZON (Facebook) was founded by Jona Tee in 2020. Jona Tee plays keyboard in the band H.E.A.T. and together with Eric Grönwall he recorded the first album „Gates Of The Gods“ in 2022. Admittedly, I wasn’t familiar with the band before. That’s a pity because the debut was already a collection of strong power metal anthems. For the new album, however, Jona had to find a new singer. And it was certainly no easy task to find a successor for a top singer like Eric Grönwall.
But a worthy successor was found. And he is no stranger either and his singing skills are also in great demand. We are talking about Nils Molin, who sings with DYNAZTY and AMARANTHE. Despite his busy schedule, Nils was so taken with the song material that he wanted to join NEW HORIZON. Nils comments as follows:
My first reaction when I received a text message from Jona asking me to sing on the new album was: Damn, I don’t have time. But when I heard some of the first tracks he was working on and after our first few sessions recording vocals, working together effortlessly and coming up with a plan for the album, I decided it just had to be done. CONQUERORS became a story that grew over time and eventually evolved into an album that far exceeded my expectations, packed with excellent songwriting, performances and surprising elements. If you like melodic metal, you’re in for a treat.

A tasty treat
it has indeed become. As mentioned at the beginning, the debut was already a blast, but with the second album „Conquerors“ they have once again reached a new level. I came across the new single „King Of Kings“ a few weeks ago and was blown away right from the start. For me, the song is the epitome of power metal. NEW HORIZON storm ahead with powerful dynamics and enchanting melodies. As usual, Nils‘ vocals are breathtakingly beautiful and turn the songs into real gems. The sounds of a church organ, which can already be heard in the introduction, were not chosen by chance.
It summarizes the story of Jesus Christ, a story that has been passed down through generations. While the title evokes a conquering king, the true conquest lies in spreading his message to hearts and minds. It also inspires philosophical reflection: How might Jesus judge the conflicts waged in his name that are so far removed from his teachings of peace and love?

What an opening!
However, „King Of Kings“ is not the only graniose anthem on this album. NEW HORIZON have by no means shot their powder with the grandiose anthem „Kings Of Kings“. The songs on the album are all on the same level. They really don’t mess around here, they just get on with it. And that in all areas. Nils Molin as a brilliant singer is just as impressively fueled instrumentally. A perfect stage for the singer, who can demonstrate his vocal abilities here with full fervor. Jolting drums, driving fat riffs, mega solos and epic keys combine to create ecstatic power metal anthems.
Fortunately, NEW HORIZON show a healthy diversity and don’t always follow the same concept. There are no big surprises, but they manage to create different moods, whereby the song structures also change. „Shadow Warrior“ or „Fallout War“, for example, come across as relatively dark and sometimes even aggressive, whereas „Apollo“ is a gigantic anthem with a very powerful chorus. And that’s not all! After a countdown, the song fires up again like a rocket and literally sweeps you off your feet.
The three songs before the final can’t quite maintain the incredibly high level of enthusiasm for me, even though they still score with a strong performance. For the ballad „Before The Dawn“, they even brought in female singer Elize Ryd. Not a bad idea to bring another facet to the proceedings. It’s great to listen to and is very easy on the ear. Unfortunately, the finale with the monumental track „Alexander The Great“, which lasts almost nine minutes, doesn’t quite manage to get me fully as the song „Daimyo“ does, for example.
The monumental piece „Alexander The Great (356-323 B.C.)“ with a playing time of almost nine minutes is a worthy finale. Incidentally, this is a cover version, as the original is by ‚Iron Maiden‘ from the album „Somewhere In Time“ from 1986. NEW HORIZON give the track a proper power upgrade. It’s really worth listening to and the gigantic guitar solos are particularly noteworthy.
Conclusion
NEW HORIZON are the epitome of epic power metal made from the finest ingredients. „Conquerors“ is yet another step up from their already strong debut album and is one of the best that has been released in power metal so far this year. Unbridled powerful dynamics meet mercilessly beautiful melodies and the grandiose singer Nils Molin refines the whole thing into a magnificent experience.
