SILIUS – „Beneath The Flesh“ Review

Es gab schon einige geile Thrash Alben dieses Jahr. Dafür braucht ihr nur mal in unseren Reviews stöbern. Nun wollen sich SILIUS (Facebook) mit ihrem Album „Beneath The Flesh“ ebenfalls in die Liste der Topalben einreihen. Die Chancen dafür stehen nicht schlecht, denn bisher konnten SILIUS mich mit ihrem Sound durchaus überzeugen. Thrash Metal voll auf die Zwölf kann mich immer begeistern, wenn man es gut umsetzt. Seit 2023 sind SILIUS mit dem neuen Sänger Benji und Schlagzeuger Manu am Start. Da darf man gespannt sein, ob die Männer frischen Wind in die Band gebracht haben.

Das Cover Artwork stellt den Titel des Albums jedenfalls super dar und dafür ist kein Geringerer als Giannis Nakos von Remedy Art Design verantwortlich. Der Künstler hat schon unzählige Cover Artworks für Bands erschaffen und erfreut sich großer Beliebtheit.

Ich erwarte von SILIUS nichts weniger als einen erbarmungslosen Angriff, doch der lässt zunächst noch auf sich warten. Während des entspannten Intros mit akustischen Gitarrenklängen kann ich also noch getrost meine Dehnübungen durchführen, um evtl. auftretenden muskulären Verspannungen beim Genuß der Platte vorzubeugen. Und dies war keine schlechte Idee, denn mit dem Song „Captive Breeding“ werde ich von dem musikalischen Sturm brutal erfasst und mitgerissen. Die Nackenmuskeln werden zu Höchstleistungen gepeitscht.

Quasi nahtlos führt man den Angriff mit dem rasenden „Reign Divide“ fort. Doch „Columbian Necktie“ geht dann einen anderen Weg und liebäugelt mit starkem massiven Groove Metal. Das sorgt für Abwechslung ohne den grundlegenden zerstörerischen Härtegrad aufzuweichen. Dieser Brecher lässt die Wände wackeln.

Anschließend folgt der zweite Instrumentaltrack „The Shadow Over“, dessen Sinn sich mir allerdings nicht erklärt, außer das er dem Hörer eine kleine Ruhepause gönnt. Denn danach reißt „Innsmaul“ wieder die Hütte ab. Ach Moment… Der Song heißt gar nicht „Innsmaul“, sondern „Innsmouth“. Macht für mich keinen Unterschied, denn der Smasher haut tatsächlich knallhart in die Fresse. Im Refrain drosselt man das Tempo. Es ist ein Song, der von verschiedenen musikalischen Ideen lebt. SILIUS treten eben nicht nur stumpf auf das Gaspedal, sondern wollen etwas Abwechslung bieten . Hier kommt auch besonders gut das kraftvolle und dynamische Drumming zur Geltung.

Beim Titeltrack „Beneath The Flesh“ hätte ich tatsächlich einen furiosen tempogeladenen Angriff erwartet, doch genau das ist er nicht. Es ist eher ein schleppender Song, der für mich zwar nicht zu den Lieblingen auf dem Album zählt, aber trotzdem cool klingt. Jedoch ist so ein Song wie „Down My Stone“ einfach mehr nach meinem Geschmack. Das ist die explosive Energie, die ich liebe! Da gibt es kein Halten mehr! Man muss sich auch keine Sorgen machen, dass SILIUS in der zweiten Albumhäfte die Puste ausgeht, denn sie hauen auch auf der zweiten Hälfte in gewohnt beeindruckender und mitreißender Manier einen Banger nach dem anderen raus.

Fazit

SILIUS schmettern mit „Beneath The Flesh“ ein Top-Thrash-Album. In 50 Minuten bekommt ihr haufenweise geile Banger um die Ohren geballert, dass es nur so scheppert. Dabei verlassen sich SILIUS nicht nur darauf euch mit viel Speed zu jagen, sondern kommen darüber hinaus mit viel kraftvollem Groove daher. Der Mix ist außerordentlich gut gelungen und damit kann SILIUS locker mit anderen Top Acts aus dem Bereich mithalten. Die Produktion lässt ebenfalls nix zu wünschen übrig. Daher kann man SILIUS zu ihrem tollen Album nur gratulieren!

There have already been some great thrash albums this year. All you have to do is browse through our reviews. Now SILIUS (Facebook) want to join the list of top albums with their album „Beneath The Flesh“. The chances of this are not bad, because so far SILIUS have been able to convince me with their sound. Thrash metal at the top of its game can always inspire me if it’s executed well. Since 2023 SILIUS have been at the start with the new singer Benji and drummer Manu. It will be interesting to see whether the men have brought a breath of fresh air into the band.

The cover artwork is a great representation of the album’s title and none other than Giannis Nakos from Remedy Art Design is responsible for it. The artist has already created countless cover artworks for bands and enjoys great reputation.

I expect nothing less than a merciless attack from SILIUS, but I’ll have to wait a moment for that. During the relaxed intro with acoustic guitar sounds, I can still confidently do my stretching exercises to prevent any muscular tension that might occur while enjoying the following songs. And this was not a bad idea, because with „Captive Breeding“ I am brutally caught up in the musical storm and swept away. The neck muscles are already under extreme strain here.

The attack continues almost uninterrupted with the furious “Reign Divide”. But “Columbian Necktie” then takes a different path and flirts with strong, massive groove metal. This provides variety without softening the basic destructive heaviness. This crusher makes the walls shake.

This is followed by the second instrumental track „The Shadow Over“, the sense of which is not clear to me, except that it gives the listener a little break. Because then „Innsmaul“ ignites hellfire again. This savage smasher really hits you hard in the face. The tempo is slowed down in the chorus. It’s a song that lives from different musical approaches. SILIUS don’t just bluntly step on the gas pedal, they want to offer some variety. The powerful and dynamic drumming also comes into its own here.

With the title track „Beneath The Flesh“, I was actually expecting a furious, tempo-laden attack, but that’s not exactly what it is. It’s more of a sluggish song, which isn’t one of my favorites on the album, but still sounds cool. However, a song like „Down My Stone“ is simply more to my taste. That’s the explosive energy I love! There’s no stopping it! You don’t have to worry about SILIUS running out of steam in the second half of the album either, because they continue to bang out one banger after another in their usual impressive and rousing manner.

Conclusion

SILIUS smash out a top thrash album with „Beneath The Flesh“. In 50 minutes, you’ll be blasted with tons of awesome bangers that will make you rattle. SILIUS don’t just rely on chasing you with a lot of hellish speed, but also come along with heavy groove. The mix is exceptionally well done and SILIUS can easily keep up with other top acts. The production is also powerful. Therefore, SILIUS can only be congratulated on their great album!
