MISFIRE „Product Of The Environment“ Review

Aus Chicago stammen die Thrasher MISFIRE (Facebook). Diese Truppe hatte mich 2022 mit ihrem Album „Sympathy For The Ignorant“ völlig weggeschmettert (Review). Wer das Album noch nicht gehört hat, der muss das dringend nachholen.

Schwere Zeiten für die Band

Doch jetzt legen MISFIRE endlich nach und ich bin gespannt, was die Jungs uns diesmal entgegenschmettern werden. Und es ist deswegen sehr spannend, da von dem ursprünglichen Trio nur noch Drummer James übrig geblieben ist, der übrigens auch für die Gitarrenriffs verantwortlich ist. Als erstes verließ Sänger/Gitarrist John die Band zu einem sehr unglücklichen Zeitpunkt, nämlich 2022 kurz vor einer Tour als Support von ‚Warbringer‘. Zum Glück konnten Sänger Tim Hensen und Gitarrist Kostadin Kostadinov als Retter einspringen. Nach der Tour quittierte Bassist Sean seinen Dienst in der Band, welcher schließlich durch Dan Stapinski ersetzt wurde. Und als Quartett kehren sie nun zurück mit

„Product Of The Environment“.

Das Intro mit der akustischen Gitarre ist aber erst einmal melodisch zurückhaltend angelegt. Es erzeugt im Verlauf so ein wenig Hintergrundspannung und geht dann nahtlos in den dunklen Beginn des Songs „Day To Day“ über. So langsam baut sich die Soundwand auf. Man wartet als Hörer förmlich auf den Angriff, der dann auch nicht allzu lange auf sich warten lässt.

Mit voller Wucht

wird ein Sturm entfacht, der alles zu Kleinholz verarbeitet. So habe ich es mir gewünscht und so ist es eingetreten. MISFIRE wechseln auch mal ins Midtempo, nur um dann wieder Vollgas zu geben. So ist „Day To Day“ schon mal ein echter Zündfunken, der den Thrash Metal Motor zum röhren bringt.

Wie bereits auf dem Debüt bekommt ihr brutalen Thrash mit massiven Riffs, furiosen Drums und kraftvollen Bassläufen. Sänger Tim unterstützt das Ganze mit seinen fiesen Vocals und pumpen den Sound mächtig auf. Beim Sound fällt mir auf, dass er schwerer und grooviger geworden ist. Dies soll aber nicht heißen, dass es hier ruhiger zugeht. Es ist eher so, dass die neuen Songs teilweise mehr ein krachendes erschütterndes Erdbeben sind als ein wirbelnder Tornado. Dafür steht z.B. der Song „Living The Dream“ Pate, der gut den Stil der neuen Songs widerspiegelt.

Aggressiver Groove

Bei den neuen Songs arbeiten MISFIRE ihre Facetten deutlicher heraus. Es gibt Songs wie das obige „Living The Dream“ oder „We Went Through Hell“, bei denen mehr eine gewaltig groovende Aggressivität entfesselt wird. Mit dieser Energie packen euch die Songs wie ein wütender Löwe und beißen euch mit aller Kraft im Nacken, um euch gnadenlos durchzuschütteln. Dabei werden MISFIRE sogar sehr melodisch, wie es z.B. das schöne Gitarrensolo bei „All Over The Place“. Diese Songs finden sich vor allem auf der ersten Hälfte des Albums.

Verrückt und wild

Dann zelebriert man den Akt der Zerstörung wieder mit der verrückten wilden Energie, wie man sie vorrangig auf dem Debüt zu spüren bekam und den Hörer einem Tornado gleich von den Füßen geblasen haben. „End Of An Age“ ist beispielsweise eine solche Energieexplosion, die einem Rausch gleicht und ein erbarmungsloses Tempo vorlegt. Ein weiterer zerstörerischer Kracher ist „Twist Of Fate“, der höllisch gemeine Vibes aufkommen lässt und mit einigen coolen Elementen daherkommt. Zum einen ist der aufpeitschende Song mit hohen besonders fiesen Vocals gespickt, was natürlich super gut reinpasst. Auch das Gitarrensolo entwickelt sich hier prächtig von einer kleinen tanzenden Flamme zu einem tosenden Feuer.

Fazit

MISFIRE brennen mit „Product Of The Environment“ weiterhin einen gewaltigen Thrash-Angriff ab. Mit dem neuen Line Up greifen sie weiterhin ungestüm und aggressiv an und arbeiten die Facetten ihres Sounds weiter beeindruckend heraus MISFIRE entfesseln eine Armada an Songs, die sowohl ihre verrückte wilde Art zum Ausdruck bringen, aber auch mit schwerer groovender Power die Erde erschüttern. MISFIRE sind spitzenmäßig und gehören für mich bereits zu den Lieblingsbands im Bereich Thrash-Metal. Sie haben mit „„Product Of The Environment“ ein weiteres tadelloses Power-Package abgeliefert und damit ihren Status weiter bekräftigt.

Thrashers MISFIRE (Facebook) hail from Chicago. This band completely blew me away in 2022 with their album „Sympathy For The Ignorant“ (review). If you haven’t heard the album yet, you really need to do so.

Now MISFIRE are finally following up and I’m curious to see what the guys will blast at us this time. And it’s very exciting because only drummer James remains from the original trio, who is also responsible for the guitar riffs. First of all, singer/guitarist John left the band at a very unfortunate time, namely in 2022 just before a tour supporting ‚Warbringer‘. Fortunately, singer Tim Hensen and guitarist Kostadin Kostadinov stepped in to save the day. After the tour, bassist Sean resigned from the band and was replaced by Dan Stapinski. And now they are back as a quartet with the new album

„Product Of The Environment“.

The intro with the acoustic guitar is melodic at first. As it progresses, it creates a little background tension and then merges seamlessly into the dark beginning of the song „Day To Day“. The wall of sound slowly builds up. The listener is literally waiting for the attack, which doesn’t wait for long.

Full force

A storm is unleashed that leaves no stone unturned. That’s what I wanted and that’s what I get. MISFIRE sometimes switch to mid-tempo, only to go full throttle again. So „Day To Day“ is a real spark that gets the thrash metal engine roaring.

As on their debut, you get brutal thrash with massive riffs, furious drums and powerful bass lines. Singer Tim supports the whole thing with his nasty vocals and pumps up the sound even more. I notice that the sound has become more massive and groovier. But that doesn’t mean that it sounds calmer ore more restrained. It’s more like the new songs partly are more of a crashing, shaking earthquake than a whirling tornado. The song „Living The Dream“, for example, is a good example of this and reflects the style of the new songs.

Aggressiver Groove

MISFIRE work out their facets more clearly. There are songs like „Living The Dream“ above or „We Went Through Hell“, which unleash a powerful grooving aggression. With this energy, the songs grab you like an angry lion that bites brutally into your neck to shake you mercilessly. MISFIRE even become very melodic in the process, such as the beautiful guitar solo on „All Over The Place“. These songs can mainly be found on the first half of the album.

Crazy and wild

Then they fire of a hell of destruction with the crazy, wild energy that was primarily felt on the debut and which blew the listener off their feet like a tornado. „End Of An Age“, for example, is one such explosion of energy that resembles a frenzy and sets a merciless pace. Another destructive firecracker is „Twist Of Fate“, which brings up some hellishly mean vibes and comes with some cool elements. On the one hand, the upbeat song is peppered with particularly nasty high vocals, which of course fits in really well. The guitar solo also develops magnificently from a small lightning flame to a roaring fire.

Conclusion

Again MISFIRE unleash a powerful thrash attack with „Product Of The Environment“. With the new line-up, they continue to strike impetuously and aggressively and work out futher facets of their sound. MISFIRE unleash an armada of songs that both express their crazy wild nature, but also shake the earth with heavy grooving power. MISFIRE are top-notch and are already one of my favorite bands in the thrash metal genre. So they deliver another impeccable power package to confirming their status.
