NO RAZA (Facebook) haben sich schon 1997 in Kolumbien gegründet, sind aber mittlerweile in Florida beheimatet. Zugegebenermaßen habe ich von der Band erst dann erfahren, als sie beim Label ‚Noble Demon‘ unter Vetrag genommen wurden, wo sie 2020 das tolle Album „Transcending Material Skins“ veröffentlichten. Aber für mich ist auch das Album „When Chaos Reigns“ aus dem Jahr 2014 echt stark.

Doch nun steht das neue Album „Tyrona“ bereit. Der Sound von NO RAZA ist klar gehalten und reduziert sich auf das Wesentliche. Keine großartigen Spielereien, sondern knallharte Angriffe, die pur und gnadenlos auf den Hörer treffen. Die Beschreibung ‚old school‘ trifft es somit auch ganz gut. Auch die neuen Songs folgen diesem Weg. Schnell fällt auf, dass die Produktion sehr knackig geworden ist, quasi genau auf den Punkt. Dies passt super zum energischen rohen Sound von NO RAZA.

„Looters“ trumpft zu Beginn des Albums mit einem coolen Riffing auf. Doch auch die melodische Gitarrenarbeit ist bemerkenswert und gipfelt in einem geilen Solo. Ebenso weiß das äußerst dynamische Drumming zu gefallen. Die dunklen Growls werden einwandfrei geschmettert und runden die Sache ab. Klargesänge sucht man vergeblich bei NO RAZA.

NO RAZA verpacken in ihren Songs clever verschiedene Ansätze. Vor allem das Gitarrenspiel ist äußerst interessant und unterhaltsam gestaltet. Brachiale Riffs treffen auf schöne melodische Eskapaden. Diese Mixtur setzen NO RAZA auf eine ganze eigene Art und Weise um. Mir fällt gerade auf Anhieb keine Band ein, die so einen Sound hat.

„Savage Strength“ könnte man fast als Ballade des Albums bezeichnen, denn insgesamt ist es wohl der Song, der am gemäßigten auftritt. Dabei legen NO RAZA eher auf melodische Aspekte mit harmonischer Ausstrahlung Wert, aber eben nicht nur. Der Song hat auch seine aggressiveren Parts. So entsteht ein kraftvoller atmosphärischer Song mit leicht epischen Ansätzen, der über fünf Minuten zu begeistern weiß.

Die Songs von NO RAZA verbinden oft einen straffen Groove mit martialischen rasanten Tempoattacken. Ausgiebige Blastbeatsalven gehören dabei zum Standardreportoire von NO RAZA, aber sie liebäugeln auch mal verdammt gerne mit dynamisch treibenden Parts der thrashigen Art wie z.B. bei „Imperial Holocaust“.

Fazit

NO RAZA liefern mit „Tyrona“ ein Hammeralbum ab. Die Songs von NO RAZA verbinden einen straffen Groove mit martialischen rasanten Tempoattacken, wobei auch brachiale Riffs auf schöne melodische Eskapaden treffen. Alles wird roh und druckvoll ohne schmuckvolle Verzierungen serviert. Deshalb passt auch der knackige Soundproduktion des Albums hervorragend zu NO RAZA.

NO RAZA (Facebook) formed in Colombia back in 1997, but are now based in Florida. Admittedly, I only found out about the band when they were signed to the label ‚Noble Demon‘, where they released the great album „Transcending Material Skins“ in 2020. But for me, the album „When Chaos Reigns“ from 2014 is also really strong.

But now the new album „Tyrona“ is released. The sound of NO RAZA is reduced to the essentials. No gimmicks, just hard-hitting attacks that smash the listener pure and merciless. The description ‚old school‘ therefore sums it up quite well. The new songs also follow this path. It quickly becomes apparent that the production has become very crisp, almost to the point. This fits perfectly with the energetic, raw sound of NO RAZA.

„Looters“ comes up trumps at the beginning of the album with its cool riffing. But the melodic guitar work is also remarkable and culminates in a great solo. The extremely dynamic drumming is equally impressive. The dark growls are delivered flawlessly and round things off. Maybe it’s for some people important that there are no clean vocals on the whole album.

NO RAZA cleverly pack different approaches into their songs. The guitar playing in particular is extremely interesting and entertaining. Brutal riffs meet beautiful melodic escapades. NO RAZA realize this mixture in their very own way. I can’t think of any other band with such a sound.

„Savage Strength“ could almost be described as the album’s ballad, as it is probably the most moderate song overall. NO RAZA place more emphasis on melodic aspects with harmonic charisma, but not only that. The song also delivers more aggressive parts. The result is a powerful, atmospheric song with a slightly epic feel that manages to inspire for over five minutes.

NO RAZA’s songs often combine a tight groove with martial, fast-paced tempo attacks. Extensive blastbeat salvos are an important part of NO RAZA’s repertoire, but they also like to flirt with dynamically driving thrashy parts, such as on „Imperial Holocaust“.

Conclusion

NO RAZA deliver a killer album with „Tyrona“. NO RAZA’s songs combine a tight groove with martial, fast-paced tempo attacks, whereby brute riffs meet beautiful melodic escapades. Everything is served up raw and punchy without ornate embellishments. That’s why the crisp sound production of the album fits NO RAZA perfectly.
