Release: 23.02.2024
SMORRAH-„Welcome To Your Nightmare“ Vorbestellung
„Welcome To Your Nightmare“
Fazit

SMORRAH (Facebook/Homepage) from Germany finally release their long-awaited debut „Welcome To Your Nightmare“ and unleash nine demonic nightmares. The guys have worked their asses off to present you their first crusher album. We at ‚metal-heads.de‘ unfortunately haven’t had the opportunity to see the band live yet. But that will definitely change in February at the album release show in the „Rocklobby“ Gelsenkirchen, where they will play the release concert together with the band OLD RUINS (Facebook). And we from ‚metal-heads.de‘ will be there to witness and document the demolition. But now back to the album, which you can pre-order by the way. There are even different colored vinyls to choose from! So get to it, otherwise it’s gone!
SMORRAH-„Welcome To Your Nightmare“ PREORDER
„Welcome To Your Nightmare“
as the title track immediately hits you mercilessly with a hard, powerful sound. Forget all energy drinks and other stimulants. Just drop SMORRAH into the player and listen to the blatant sound. Then you’ll immediately be in ecstatic excitement. It should be said here, cause for some this is an important criterion, that there you get no clean vocals. First I want to introduce the album with the song „Hope Dies Last“. Unfortunately I have only an older recording of the song, but this song shows perfectly what you can expect from SMORRAH.
Bad things happen
At this point I would like to emphasize that the sound of the new flawless production sounds much better, of course. The sound is really fat and has strong pressure, so that the storm on „Hopes Dies Last“ seeks its destructive path even more brutally. The violent blast on the album fits the themes of the lyrics, which revolve around the abysses of the human psyche.
For singer Marius, the lyrics are usually inspired by events that have moved him or left a different impression. „Dead Snake Eyes“ is one of the more recent songs and deals with the murder of Dimebag Darrell, the guitarist of PANTERA, who was shot dead by a crazed gunman during a concert on December 8, 2004. The crime claimed four more victims. But you don’t have to go that far afield. The horror lurks here in Germany too. The song ‚Killing Spree‘ is about Marcel H., who brutally killed a 9-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man in Herne in 2017.
Such stunned things make you sad, but also incredibly angry. SMORRAH process this anger in their songs and you can feel it in their relentless sound. SMORRAH don’t rock in the same boots all the time. Of course, there is no acting in ballet slippers here, but the songs are not just bluntly stomped through. Overall, the songs have a coherent sound concept with different mucical attacks.
coherent sound
„Buried Underneath“ deals with contrasts in tempo and inspires, for example, with a wacky guitar solo of a special kind. It sounds different at the beginning and sounds very cool. „When The Tide Comes In“ plays even more clearly with different elements, especially the dark doomy beginning shows another facet in the sound, which is repeatedly taken up in the further course of the song. The song has a more progressive structure and, at over six minutes, is also the longest track on the album.
„Death Awaits“ has the steamroller blues in it. Christian has strung some thick steel strings on his bass, because „Death Awaits“ is a killer bass monster. The thing flattens everything. In between, the drum gets a nitro injection and the drum becomes a raging, biting wild sow. What a great groovy crusher! In contrast, „Dead Snake Eyes“ bangs along at full speed for long stretches. So everything is on offer to torture your neck muscles or to take a ride in the mosh pit.
„Age Of Decay“ is a song that stands out a little more and is not typical SMORRAH style in places, as it doesn’t kick off immediately and is instead introduced with a great guitar solo. Of course, there is also some thrashing, but the song also takes a step back and is playing with a little different sound concept. There are even almost clean vocals to be heard at times. You can also check out the sound of the new production here.
Conclusion
With their debut „Welcome To Your Nightmare“, SMORRAH unleash an evil monster to haunt you with nine blatant nightmares. Mercilessly good and at the same time bitterly evil entertainment with unrestrained attacks that will give you the full punch.
