Also keine Sorge, dass FACTORY OF ART plötzlich auf Death Metal machen.
Strophe dazu. Amarcord haben das Ganze noch verfeinert. Im Song geht es metaphorisch um Drogenmissbrauch.
Pressetext
Es ist wahre Kunst,
die uns FACTORY OF ART hier präsentieren.
Progherz, was willst du mehr?
Fazit
FACTORY OF ART besorgen uns mit ihrem neuen Album „Back To Life“ einen intensiven Ohrgasmus.

In January 2022, we celebrated the resurrection of FACTORY OF ART (Facebook/Homepage). In this article it was already announced that they would be working on new songs. However, they wanted to take their time to create a first-class album that would meet the band’s high standards. Back in 1990, when the band was founded, the mission was to create music that would sound different and stand out from the crowd. I would say that this mission is much more difficult to fulfill today than it was back then. Countless styles of rock and metal have evolved since then. But even today I am still surprised by some of the creative ideas bands come up with. So let’s see what FACTORY OF ART have created and whether they belong to the category of „positive surprises“. In any case, my expectations are already pretty high.
The very beautiful cover artwork
is really something to be proud of. It really whets the appetite for the musical content. Basically, the cover also reflects the musical journey that you experience on „Back To Life“. Overall, it is primarily a dark journey, but it also has some wonderful glimmers of light. The picture combines morbid elements with symbols of life. None of them exist independently of each other.
A dreamlike start
opens the album. A narrative voice briefly introduces the story and then you hear a brilliant guitar solo. It’s so beautiful that I rewound it immediately to listen to it a second time. After the solo, sharp riffs cut through the melodic poem and it gets tough… and harder than I had previously imagined. Who would have thought that the band would forge such hart metal on the anvil in the old days. The opener isn’t even the heaviest and darkest track on the album, but it’s a great start. You can already tell here how much technical skill and attention to detail FACTORY OF ART have put into their new songs in terms of songwriting. There is always something new happening in the song, but there is still a musical flow and a common thread. A real pleasure!
A gem
is also the single „Blessing In Disguise“. It was the first song I heard from the new album and it blew me away. The beginning itself, with the vocals of a real choir, is simply brilliant and wonderful. And what then pours into your ears is no less impressive. Again, so many impressions come crashing down on you that I listened to the song at least five times in a row to fully appreciate it in all its splendor. Wonderful, indeed equally powerful melodies enter into a fascinating symbiosis. This mixture is excellently realized both instrumentally and vocally. Even growls find their place here, which I find quite blatant. This might be a bit too much for some people, but I liked it because it’s just a brief effect at the beginning of the song that gives the whole thing a dark attitude. So don’t worry about FACTORY OF ART suddenly turning into death metal.
In the same way, no half measures were taken with the visual realization of the video and this fantastic song was given a great video. The video was recorded at the Krystallpalast Variéte Leipzig and produced by Christian Dageförde. The band is supported on this song by the vocal ensemble ARMACORD.
Singer Petri about „Blessing In Disguise“:
Fragments of this song are probably 25 years old and were a factory demo for a video game. That was a good basic framework and a kick start. It was the first song we tackled. The verse lyrics came from a guest singer at the time and I wrote the chorus lyrics and the third verse. Amarcord refined the whole thing. The song is metaphorically about drug abuse.
presstext
It’s true art,
that FACTORY OF ART present to us here. It becomes clearer with every moment of listening that they are once again accomplishing their aforementioned mission ’summa cum laude‘. The guild of highly professional musicians probably wanted to make it unmistakably clear what a great, exceptional band they are.
The songs are all wrapped in a darker guise, even if there are occasional flashes of light. „Silent Room“ is no exception. In over seven minutes, FACORTY OF ART paint a dark landscape using various techniques. It is exciting to experience the development of the individual songs. The first musical brushstrokes of the songs never give an idea of what the overall work of art will express later, when different facets are gradually added. „Silent Room“ begins deliberately, but already with crisp riffs. In between, the tempo increases and the song becomes more substantial in terms of instrumentation. At some point it literally goes „into full swing“. Then, in an interlude from the fourth minute onwards, the song is scaled back again and concentrates on narrative vocals. I think the transition into the instrumental solo part with super synths and a fantastic guitar solo is brilliant. Prog heart, what more could you want?
In contrast to the other songs, „Face Behind The Mask“ is relatively straightforward. For me, the song has a really strong heavy rock note and shares the battlefield with melodic metal. The pithy vocals come across really cool. The synths guarantee special vibes, which are even responsible for some crazy moments later on. „Decadence“ kicks into high gear right from the start and FACTORY OF ART vehemently accelerate back onto the metal track. Of course, they also slow down from time to time, but the sprints are really cool. All in all, it’s another exciting mix that gives you some fantastic moments. Oh, the end of the song with the female voice is great. I liked it so much that I would have liked to hear more of her. Who is this woman? Would like to hear more from her! I’m not letting up so quickly. So I found out that Stephanie Brill is responsible for this wonderful vocal contribution. Really impressive!
Even towards the end, FACTORY OF ART easily manage to maintain the high level. The final trio of songs begins with „The Truth“. It progresses with rugged riffing, with the melodic leads providing fine melodic winds. The vocals are powerful and brash. „Behind The Lights“ rocks more in the direction of heavy metal and provides a nice brisk beat accompanied by a cool bass. The riffing is not quite as heavy and dominant, but provides a great dynamic. The synths come to the fore more and towards the end there’s a real kick to the bell.
The finale is the title track „Back To Life“ and, as you would expect, FACTORY OF ART show off their skills once again. It gets darker again and the riffs weigh heavier. The song exudes a crisp heaviness. It’s not blazingly fast, but it marches along at a brisk pace and occasionally goes into an extra fast sprint. The vocal lines are a dream and a treat for the ears. A lot of power paired with gripping melodies make this song a worthy final experience.
Conclusion
FACTORY OF ART give us a truly intense eargasm with their new album „Back To Life“. My expectations were high and yet they were exceeded. Every song is a work of art. This creativity and attention to detail, plus the courage to push boundaries, can be felt in every song. But that’s what characterizes FACTORY OF ART. A precious quality feature! But I really didn’t expect it to be this rich and consistent. Fantastic! I can firmly say that this album will be on my top list for 2024. If you like sophisticated, professional and captivating progressive metal, you’ve definitely come to the right place. Let yourself be carried away and enchanted!
I’ve got something else…. The vinyl
of this brilliant album was fortunately sent to me earlier and so I am able to give you some impressions of it. As I’ve already mentioned once or several times, FACTORY OF ART don’t do things by halves. So they present two vinyls in a wonderfully designed gatefold. It’s a feast for the eyes and the sound is in no way inferior. It sounds beautiful. So I really have to say that you can only admire FACTORY OF ART for the total work of art they have created here. There is nothing missing and everyone should reward and honor the band by ordering one of the physical copies. The men have put all their heart and soul into breathing life into this project. And you can be sure that this involved a lot of time and stress as well as a lot of fun. Let’s give the band something in return. It should therefore be said here that the album is deliberately not currently available on streaming portals. That’s why you can only get this work of art at really fair prices on CD or vinyl:
