SIRENIA

Die Geschichte von SIRENIA (Facebook) wird nun schon seit über 20 Jahren geschrieben, nachdem Morten Veland begann die ersten Kapitel zu schreiben. Es ist schon eine beachtliche Leistung überhaupt so lange im Geschäft zu bleiben. Aber sie haben es geschafft und nun erblickte 2023 das elfte Album „1977“ das Licht der Welt.

Auf dem aktuellen Album gibt es klassischen melodischen Symphonic Metal ohne Ecken und Kanten. Ich könnte jetzt kritisieren, dass es mir insgesamt eigentlich zu soft geraten ist. Aber ich habe mich dabei erwischt, dass sich die Songs sofort bei mir eingeschmeichelt haben. Ja, das liegt natürlich daran, dass zum einen sehr eingängig gestaltet und (obwohl die Texte gar nicht so kuschelig sind). Aber zum anderen man kommt nicht umhin zuzugeben, dass die Kompositionen absolut einwandfrei ausgearbeitet sind und die Produktion zudem on top ist. Für mich zwängen sich SIRENIA zwar in ein zu enges Korsett, aber dieses ist mit feiner Spitze und schönen Stickereien versehen. Soll heißen, dass es nicht zu eintönig und monoton wird.

Man fühlt sich direkt wohl!

Man startet das Album und fühlt sich direkt wohl. Der schönen Stimme von Sängerin Emmanuelle Zoldan hört man sehr gerne zu. Die Gitarren sind stark präsent, wodurch das Riffing seine volle Wirkung entfalten kann. Auch die wundervollen Gitarrensoli verfehlen ihre Wirkung nicht. Die Keys geraten nicht immer zu sehr in den Vordergrund, haben aber natürlich hier und da ihre großen Auftritte.

Grundsätzlich haftet den Songs eine Spur Melancholie an. Dies kommt z.b. bei Songs „The Setting Darkness“ und „A Thousand Scars“ deutlicher zum Ausdruck. Ohnehin wird einem schon klar, dass die Texte einen ernsten Inhalt haben. Dies wird schon allein durch die Songtitel deutlich. „A Thousand Scars“ gefällt mir außerdordentlich gut, weil er als Power-Ballade super funktioniert und einen traumhaften Refrain hat. Zudem finde ich den sphärischen Part ab der vierten Minute, der dann zu einem klangvollen Gitarrensolo führt, sehr gelungen.

Das SIRENIA durchaus auch mal mit knackiger Härte agieren können, wird aber lediglich im Song „Delirium“ klar. Denn dort werden das einzige Mal männliche harsche Vocals geschmettert. Vielleicht hören wir auf dem nächsten Album wieder mehr davon. Ich würde es begrüßen. Nichtsdestotrotz ist „1977“ ein wunderbares Album! Und ein starkes Cover von „Twist In My Sobriety“ gibt es am Ende noch obendrauf.

KAMELOT

KAMELOT (Facebook) hatten nach einer langen Wartezeit von fünf Jahren endlich ihr neues Album „The Awakening“ veröffentlicht. Die Erwartungshaltung der Fans war natürlich riesig. Und sie wurden nicht enttäuscht. Denn „The Awakening“ dürfte angesichts seiner herausragenden alle zufriedengestellt haben.

Die Band bewegt sich im Fahrwasser des Power/Melodic Metal und hat dabei auch progressive Routen auf der Reise mit im Programm. Die Songs sind fein komponiert. „The Great Divide“ erobert sofort die Herzen mit seiner flotten melodischen Ausstrahlung. Qualitativ hält man das anfänglich hohe Niveau locker durch und setzt mit „Opus Of The Night (Ghost Reqiem) noch mal einen drauf.

Es ist tatsächlich ein Opus!

Der harte druckvolle Song bietet einen monumentalen Auftritt und bleibt durch einen spannenden progressiven Aufbau über die fast sechs Minuten durchweg höchst faszinierend. Hervorzuheben wäre dann auch noch der Song „New Babylon“, wo die sehr geschätzte Melissa Bonny mit ihrer aggressiven Präsenz nochmals in Sachen Härte ein starkes Zeichen setzt. So bleibt im Ergebnis ein äußerst starkes Album!

Mein Kollege Uwe hat das Album seinerzeit rezensiert und hier ist das Fazit seines Reviews:

Tommy Karevik ist stimmlich weiterhin in Höchstform, Oliver Palotai hat das Keyboard-spielen ebenso wenig verlernt wie Sean Tibbett den Umgang mit dem Bass. Neuschlagzeuger Alex Landenburg ist ein Könner und Thomas Youngblood flitzt nach wie vor virtuos mit den Fingern über die Saiten. Wenn dann noch Gäste wie die oben erwähnten und Violonist Florina Janoske ihren Beitrag leisten, kann technisch-musikalisch schon nicht mehr viel schief gehen. Der wichtigste Fakt aber ist, dass es Kamelot erneut gelungen ist, starke Songs zu schreiben.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) hatten im Jahre 2021 ihr Debüt „3.6.2.4“ veröffentlicht. Das war schon ein Debüt nach Maß. Deswegen habe ich mit viel Spannung habe ich dem Nachfolger „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ entgegengefiebert.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS bleiben ihrer eingeschlagenen Richtung treu. Das offenbart sich schon mit dem bombastischen Opener „March Of Titans“. Es ist zwar kaum zu glauben, aber der Sound hat noch einmal an Bombast zugelegt. Es passiert noch eine Menge mehr im Sound als auf dem Debüt. Unglaublich, mit was für einer Vehemenz hier agiert wird. 

Es fällt durchweg auf, dass in jedem Bereich viel passiert. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS haben ihren Sound nochmals aufgepimpt. Gesanglich bekommt man die gesamte Palette geboten. Screams, Growls, cleaner Gesang und Chöre werden hier gekonnt vereinigt und auch instrumental tut sich verdammt viel. Dies wird beispielsweise durch den Song „Lands Of The Snow“ hervorragend verdeutlicht.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS haben mit „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ einen würdigen Nachfolger des Debütalbums „3.6.2.4“ erschaffen. Wieder einmal imponieren sie mit einem cineastischen Erlebnis der Extraklasse, dass mit einer bombastischen Opulenz den Hörer überwältigt. Symphonischer extremer Bombastmetal der Extraklasse! „Lands Of Snow“

GENUS ORDINIS DEI

GENUS ORDINIS DEI (Facebook/Homepage) aus Italien haben sich 2011 gegründet. Sie erzählen große Geschichten, die einen Hang zu mystischen religiösen bzw. okkulten Dingen haben. Mit dem Album „Glare Of Deliverance“ erzählte man 2020 die mittelalterliche Geschichte einer jungen Frau namens Eleanor, welche von der Heiligen Inquisition verfolgt wird. 

“ The Beginning“ ist nun ein weiteres sehr ambitioniertes Projekt der epischen Geschichtenerzähler GENUS ORDINIS DEI. Das gesamte Album hat mit einer Spielzeit von fast 60 Minuten, die sich über 12 Tracks erstrecken, wobei es zwei kürzere instrumentale Zwischenspiele gibt. Es wird die Geschichte zweier Geschwister erzählt, die in prähistorischer Zeit einem Stamm von Kannibalen angehören und nach der Wahrheit über ihre Religion, Gott und die Ursprünge der Existenz der Menschheit suchen. Aber die Songtexte offenbaren neben diesem geschichtlichen Aufhänger noch ganz andere Geheimnisse und Verknüpfungen.

Musikalisch nimmt es cineastische Ausmaße an.

Auch wenn man sich nach wie vor (orchestraler) Synthies bedient, nehmen diese keine vordergründige Rolle ein. Der Sound alterniert zwischen unheimlicher sakraler Ästhetik und drastischen theatralischen Momenten, die hauptsächlich mit kraftvollem rauen Metal geschmettert werden. Die bombastischen Symphonien, die man noch vom Vorgängeralbum kennt, werden hier nicht mehr so in der Form eingesetzt. Hier werden die symphonischen Elemente etwas subtiler eingesetzt, um die passende Atmosphäre zu erzeugen.

Hervorzuheben wäre in diesem Fall auch die Verbindung von musikalischer und visueller Darbietung. Die Band ist bekannt für ihre künstlerischen und aufwendigen Videos. Ich kann daher nur jedem dringendst anraten, sich die vierteilige Videoreihe anzuschauen, die für dieses Album produziert wurde. So wird das ganze Erlebnis nochmals intensiviert. Man muss in diesem Zusammenhang wirklich von großer Kunst sprechen, die fantastische Musik, hochwertige Lyrics und epische visuelle Gestaltung vereint.

GENUS ORDINIS DEI haben ihre Musik zu einer Kunstform erhoben, die zusammen mit der lyrischen und visuellen Gestaltung ein Meisterstück ergibt. „The Beginning“ bereitet eine harte Reise durch mystische Welten, bei der man von hervorragenden Songs begleitet wird, die sich kraftvoll emotional erheben und euch mit ihrer machtvollen Energie niederschmettern werden. Es ist eine brutal emotionale Erfahrung. So haben GENUS ORDINIS DEI mit „The Beginning“ ein Epos in die Welt geboren, dass mit einer imponierenden Darbietung niemanden unbeeindruckt zurücklässt und nicht zuletzt durch seine lyrische Gestaltung zum Nachdenken anregt. Ein Album, dem man sich unbedingt widmen sollte. (Review)

„For A New God“

XANDRIA

XANDRIA (Facebook) haben bereits Anfang des Jahres ihr Opus „The Wonders Still Waiting“ veröffentlicht. Und es hat seinen Ausnahmestatus über das ganze Jahr hinweg nicht verloren. Ich würde mal sagen, dass dieses Album der Inbegriff des Symphonic Metal ist. Sechs Jahre sind eine echt lange Zeit, aber XANDRIA haben sich selbst übertroffen. Man hört es förmlich heraus, dass die Band sich eines echten Orchesters und Chören bedient hat. Neben einem 40-köpfigen klassischen Chor, authentischen keltischen Instrumenten, sowie Cello- und Geigen-Beiträgen von Subway to Sally’s Ally Storch, wird das neue Album durch den bekannten bulgarischen Kinderchor des nationalen Radios BNR ergänzt. Niemand geringeres als Lukas Knöbl, der durch seine Kollaborationen mit Hollywod-Stars wie Roland Emmerich bekannt ist, zeichnet sich für die Orchestration des Albums verantwortlich.

Natürlich sind das schon mal höchst erlesene Zutaten, aber das reicht natürlich nicht aus, wenn es am Rest hapert. Aber wenn man schon so weit geht, dann lässt man sich beim Rest auch nicht lumpen. Denn die Band gibt es auch nicht erst seit gestern und wir haben es hier mit echten erfahrenen Profis zu tun. So wird man natürlich auch beim Gesang und der „normalen“ Instrumentierung (Gitarren, Drums, Bass) nicht enttäuscht.

Die neue Sängerin Ambre Vourvahis 

ist mir auf Anhieb symphatisch. Ihr Gesang ist einwandfrei und sie kann mit einer großen Range begeistern, die von zauberhaften Gesängen bis hin zu scharfen Growls reicht. So darf man bereits beim Opener „Two Worlds“ einen perfekt inszenierten melodischen Song genießen, bis nach einem instrumentalen Zwischenspiel das Schiff in härtere dunklere Gewässer segelt. Starke Riffwellen krachen gegen das Schiff. Es kracht und scheppert. Und auch das Orchester gibt mächtig Gas. Growls unterstützen zudem gekonnt diese Passage.

Insgesamt gefällt mir der Mix auf diesem Album außerordentlich gut. Es bietet Erlebnisse von druckvoller Härte bis hin zu melodischer beflügelnder Leichtigkeit. Das Album ist wirklich ein Abenteuer, welches die Spannung und Intensität über die gesamte Distanz halten kann und den Hörer von Höhepunkt zu Höhepunkt mitreißt.

Mit neuem Line Up und frischem Wind haben sie ein maximal episches Werk erschaffen, dass perfekten Symphonic Metal über sagenhafte 70 Minuten zelebriert. Die Kompositionen sind spannend modelliert worden. Diese Symbiose von epischen symphonischen Elementen mit seinen klassischen pompösen Ausprägungen und der Härte des Metal wird hier auf ein neues episches Level gebracht. So werden zwei Welten miteinander verbunden und gipfeln in einem epischen Meisterwerk. Alles in allem ist es ein gigantisches Album, an dem es nichts zu kritisieren gibt. (Review)

So today I have the top list for symphonic metal for you, which is perhaps quite fitting for the occasion. Okay… not all the bands here could be played at a family Christmas celebration

SIRENIA

The story of SIRENIA (Facebook) has been written for over 20 years now, after Morten Veland started writing the first chapters. It’s quite an achievement to stay in the business for so long. But they made it and now the eleventh album „1977“ saw the light of day in 2023.

The current album features classic melodic Symphonic Metal with no rough edges. I could now criticize that it’s actually too soft for me overall. But I have to admit that the songs immediately endeared themselves to me. Yes, that’s of course because on the one hand they are very catchy (although the lyrics aren’t all that cuddly). But on the other hand, you can’t help but admit that the compositions are absolutely flawless and the production is on top. For me, SIRENIA squeeze themselves into a corset that’s too tight, but it’s lined with fine lace and beautiful embroidery. This means that it doesn’t become too monotonous and monotonous.

You feel comfortable.

The beautiful voice of singer Emmanuelle Zoldan is a pleasure to listen to. The guitars are very present, allowing the riffing to unfold its full effect. Wonderful guitar solos don’t miss their effect either. The keys are an important part of the sound and of course they have their big appearances here and there.

Basically, there is a hint of melancholy in the songs. This is expressed more clearly in songs such as „The Setting Darkness“ and „A Thousand Scars“. In any case, it is clear that the lyrics have a serious content. This is clear from the song titles alone. I really like „A Thousand Scars“ because it works really well as a power ballad and has a fantastic chorus. I also think the spherical part from the fourth minute onwards, which then leads to a sonorous guitar solo, is very successful.

However, the fact that SIRENIA are also capable of playing with crisp heaviness is only made clear in the song „Delirium“. This is the only time that harsh male vocals are belted out. Maybe we’ll hear more of that on the next album. I would welcome it. Nevertheless, „1977“ is a wonderful album! And there’s a great cover of „Twist In My Sobriety“ on top at the end.

KAMELOT

KAMELOT (Facebook) had finally released their new album „The Awakening“ after a long wait of five years. The fans‘ expectations were naturally huge. And they were not disappointed. Because „The Awakening“ should have satisfied everyone in view of its outstanding quality.

They move in fields of Power/Melodic Metal and also has progressive routes on its way. The songs are finely composed. „The Great Divide“ immediately conquers hearts with its brisk melodic charisma. In terms of quality, the initial high level is easily maintained and the band goes one better with „Opus Of The Night (Ghost Reqiem)“.

It really is an opus!

The hard, powerful song offers a monumental performance and remains highly fascinating throughout thanks to its exciting progressive structure over almost six minutes. „New Babylon“ should also be emphasized, where the much appreciated Melissa Bonny makes a strong statement in terms of heaviness with her aggressive presence. The result is an extremely strong album!

Tommy Karevik is still in top form, Oliver Palotai has not forgotten how to play the keyboard, nor has Sean Tibbett forgotten how to play the bass. New drummer Alex Landenburg is an expert and Thomas Youngblood continues to whiz his fingers across the strings with virtuosity. When guests such as those mentioned above and violonist Florina Janoske also contribute, not much can go wrong from a technical or musical point of view. The most important fact, however, is that Kamelot have once again succeeded in writing strong songs.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) had released their debut „3.6.2.4“ in 2021. That was a debut made to measure. That’s why I was eagerly awaiting the follow-up „Riddles Of The Sycophants“.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS remain true to their chosen direction. This is already evident with the bombastic opener „March Of Titans“. It’s hard to believe, but the sound has become even more bombastic. It’s unbelievable how much vehemence is offered here.

It is noticeable throughout that a lot is happening in every area. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have pimped up their sound once again. Vocally, the entire palette is on offer. Screams, growls, clean vocals and choirs are skillfully combined here and there’s also a hell of a lot going on instrumentally. This is perfectly illustrated by the song „Lands Of The Snow“, for example.

With „Riddles Of The Sycophants“, GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have created a worthy follow-up to their debut album „3.6.2.4“. Once again they impress with a cinematic experience in a class of its own, overwhelming the listener with bombastic opulence. Symphonic extreme bombast metal in a class of its own!(Review)

„Lands Of Snow“

GENUS ORDINIS DEI

GENUS ORDINIS DEI (Facebook/Homepage) from Italy were founded in 2011. They tell great stories with a penchant for mystical religious and occult matters. With the album „Glare Of Deliverance“ in 2020, they told the medieval story of a young woman named Eleanor who is persecuted by the Holy Inquisition.

„The Beginning“ is now another highly ambitious project from epic storytellers GENUS ORDINIS DEI. The entire album has a playing time of almost 60 minutes, spanning 12 tracks, with two shorter instrumental interludes. It tells the story of two siblings who belong to a tribe of cannibals in prehistoric times and search for the truth about their religion, God and the origins of mankind’s existence. But the song lyrics reveal completely different secrets and connections in addition to this historical hook.

Musically and visually, it takes on cinematic dimensions.

The bombastic symphonies from the previous album are no longer used in the same way here. . Here, the symphonic elements are used a little more subtly to create the right atmosphere. The sound alternates between eerie sacred aesthetics and drastic theatrical moments, which are mainly blasted with powerful, raw metal.

This combination of musical and visual performance should also be emphasized in this case. The band is known for its artistic and elaborate videos. I can therefore only strongly advise everyone to watch the four-part video series that was produced for this album. It really intensifies the whole experience. You really have to speak of great art in this context, which combines fantastic music, high-quality lyrics and epic visual design.

GENUS ORDINIS DEI have elevated their music to an art, which together with the lyrical and visual design results in a masterpiece. „The Beginning“ prepares a harsh journey through mystical worlds, accompanied by awesome songs that will rise up powerfully emotionally and smash you down with their powerful energy. It is a brutally emotional experience. With „The Beginning“, GENUS ORDINIS DEI have given birth to an epic that leaves no one unimpressed with its outstanding performance and, not least, its lyrical design is thought-provoking. An album that should definitely be listened to. (Review)

„For A New God“

XANDRIA (Facebook) released their magnus opus „The Wonders Still Waiting“ at the beginning of the year. And it hasn’t lost its exceptional status throughout the year. I would say that this album is the epitome of symphonic metal. Six years is a really long time, but XANDRIA have surpassed themselves. You can literally hear that the band made use of a real orchestra and choirs. In addition to a 40-piece classical choir, authentic Celtic instruments, as well as cello and violin contributions from Subway to Sally’s Ally Storch, the new album is complemented by the well-known Bulgarian children’s choir from the national radio station BNR. None other than Lukas Knöbl, who is known for his collaborations with Hollywod stars such as Roland Emmerich, is responsible for the orchestration of the album.

Of course, these are the most exquisite ingredients, but that’s not enough if the rest is lacking. But if you go that far, then you don’t let yourself get carried away with the rest. After all, we’re dealing with real experienced professionals here. So you won’t be disappointed with the vocals and the „normal“ metal instrumentation (guitars, drums, bass).

The new singer Ambre Vourvahis

is instantly likeable. Her vocals are flawless and she can inspire with a wide range, from magical singing to sharp growls. The opener „Two Worlds“ is a perfectly orchestrated melodic song until, after an instrumental interlude, the ship sails into harder, darker waters. Strong riff waves crash against the ship. It crashes and rattles. And the orchestra also steps on the gas. Growls also skillfully support this passage.

Overall, I really like the mix on this album. It offers experiences ranging from powerful heaviness to melodic, uplifting lightness with epic landscapes. The album really is an adventure that can maintain the tension and intensity over the entire distance and sweeps the listener along from climax to climax.

With a new line-up and a breath of fresh air, they have created a maximally epic work that celebrates perfect symphonic Metal over incredible 70 minutes. The compositions have been modeled in an exciting way. This symbiosis of epic symphonic elements with its classic pompous characteristics and the heaviness of Metal is taken to a new epic level here. In this way, two worlds are brought together and culminate in an epic masterpiece. All in all, it is a gigantic album with nothing to criticize. (Review)

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) hatten im Jahre 2021 ihr Debüt „3.6.2.4“ veröffentlicht. Dieses Debüt hatte ich mich sehr begeistert und wurde dementsprechend gewürdigt (Review). Die Single „The Third Pillar“ hat es auf fast 90.000 Views gebracht. Für eine Newcomer-Band ein wahnsinniger Erfolg.

Mit viel Spannung habe ich dem Nachfolger entgegengefiebert. Nun ist es bald soweit und der Nachfolger „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ wird kommenden Freitag am 27.10.2023 unter dem Label Hammerheart Records erscheinen.

Es bleibt bombastisch

Man hat von allem eben noch eine große Schüppe mehr in den Sound geschaufelt. Ich kann mich kaum entscheiden wo ich zuerst hinhören soll. Das könnte so manchen schon überfordern. Doch mit dem Opener hat man auf jeden Fall direkt ein fettes Ausrufezeichen gesetzt.

Cineastisch

Der zweite Song „Lands Of Snow“ ist ein wenig überschaubarer und imponiert mit wunderbaren Chören, die auch schon bei der Single „The Third Pillar“ vom Debüt ein herausragendes Merkmal waren. Und auch hier verfehlen diese Chöre nicht ihre Wirkung. Es fällt durchweg auf, dass in jedem Bereich viel passiert. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS haben ihren Sound nochmals aufgepimpt. Gesanglich bekommt man die gesamte Palette geboten. Screams, Growls, cleaner Gesang und Chöre werden hier gekonnt vereinigt und auch instrumental tut sich verdammt viel. Es ist wahrlich eine Kunst so viel in einen Song zu packen und es trotzdem als Einheit wirken zu lassen.

Überwältigend

Genau mittig hat man den Song „The Alkonost“ plaziert. Und auch wenn wir hier nicht von einer Ballade sprechen können, so ist der Song trotzdem eine Rast inmitten der überwältigenden Soundeskapaden auf dem Album. Ruhig wird es zwar auch hier nicht so richtig, aber man hält sich hier vergleichsweise noch zurück und legt die Melodik in den Vordergrund. Und tatsächlich enthält der Song einen wahrhaftigen Ruhepol in der zweiten Hälfte, wobei man zum Ende hin jedoch noch von einem gnadenlosen Angriff überrannt wird.

Also auf in die zweite Hälfte des Albums. Und man fackelt nicht lange. Mit „Sacremental“ geht es heftig rund, denn hier werden euch rasende Blastbeats schwindelig prügeln. Schon irre, dass man hier noch cleane Vocals in einem wunderbaren Refrain einbauen konnte. Aber GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS lassen es geschehen.

„Behind The Wall“

sticht von seiner Machart wieder heraus. Ist das die Ballade des Albums? Nun, man könnte es fast als solche bezeichnen. Denn der Song wirkt deutlich entspannter und das Tempo bleibt auf einem moderaten Level. Der Song hat aber eine tolle Rhythmik und wunderschöne Melodik, die ohne Frage eine starke Faszination ausübt. Auch hier hat der parallele Einsatz extremer und cleaner Vocals eine starke Ausstrahlung.

Kommen wir zum Titeltrack des Albums, welcher gleichzeitig das opulente Finale darstellt. „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ geht mit sieben Minuten einen langen Weg. Aber dieser Weg fordert noch einmal alles von der Band und dem Hörer. Zunächst schlägt man einen melodischen Weg ein, der im Vergleich zum Einstieg in das Album relativ gemäßigt daherkommt. Aber das ist nicht negativ gemeint, denn hier werden die Aspekte zunächst anderes priorisiert. Der Song findet sich in einem Wechsel von Beschleunigung und Entschleunigung. Im Mittelteil baut sich dann langsam eine bedrohliche Kulisse auf, die sich dann schließlich voll entfaltet und so in den martialischen Teil des Songs mündet. Anschließend wird man wieder versöhnlich zum Ende des Albums geleitet.

Fazit

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS haben mit „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ einen würdigen Nachfolger des Debütalbums „3.6.2.4“ erschaffen. Wieder einmal imponieren sie mit einem cineastischen Erlebnis der Extraklasse, dass mit einer bombastischen Opulenz den Hörer überwältigt. Symphonischer extremer Bombastmetal der Extraklasse!

Die Story

Zum Abschluss möchte ich hier noch den Pressetext zitieren, in dem die erzählten Geschichten des Albums näher erläutert werden.

Nach den heldenhaften Taten des atlantischen Volkes in „3.6.2.4“ werden diejenigen, die das Glück hatten, den großen Fluten zu entkommen, nun an einem neuen Land angeschwemmt. Die Nachricht von den Überlebenden hat sich über die Länder und Meere verbreitet. Es kursieren Geschichten über die Überlebenden, die die Gunst der Götter gewonnen haben. Die Rätsel der Sykophanten verursachen große Unruhe und setzen Chaos und Zerstörung in Bewegung.

Geister von Atlantis

Aus Angst wird das Siegel der Büchse der Pandora in der Hoffnung entfernt, ein gewisses Gleichgewicht der Kräfte auf der Erde herzustellen. In der Zwischenzeit haben die Gier und Habsucht der Menschen katastrophale Folgen und bringen eine so verheerende Zerstörung hervor, dass die Geister von Atlantis noch einmal zu den drei Säulen reisen, um ein Portal zu öffnen. „Riddles Of Sycophants“ ist eine Sammlung von Geschichten mit vielen bekannten und weniger bekannten Figuren aus verschiedenen Mythologien.

Chaos in der Welt

Die Geschichten des Albums sind inspiriert von der Folklore verschiedener Nationen. Das Album beginnt damit, dass die Atlanter unter der Führung der ältesten Weisen die großen Titanen ausfindig machen. Nach ihrer Rückkehr stellen sie fest, dass die Welt sich gewandelt hat. Es ist eine Welt, die durch das vorangegangene Chaos auf den Kopf gestellt wurde. Dieses Land ist weit entfernt von dem sandigen und vertrauten Boden der alten Heimat. Nun ist es mit Schnee und Gefahren bedeckt. Ein Durchqueren scheint unmöglich.

Hier stoßen die Geister wieder zu ihnen und kämpfen sich durch die härtesten Gefilde und die größten Gefahren. Nachdem sie nun durch das Portal gereist sind, werden die Geister Zeugen, wie die Büchse der Pandora geöffnet wird, und sehen das Chaos, das sich nun in den vielen Reichen entfaltet. Könige werden zu Kannibalen, Sand wird zu Schnee, mythische Kreaturen
aus anderen Reichen tauchen auf. Die Götter sind wütend geworden. Es spricht sich herum, dass eine mythische geflügelte Frau die Vergangenheit auslöschen kann, und zwar für alle Zeiten.

Verräter und Lügner

mit vergoldeter Zunge versuchen die mächtigsten Könige zu beeinflussen. Damit die Menschen all das hinter sich lassen können, müssen sie hinter einer großen Mauer Schutz suchen, obwohl sie wissen, dass sie nie wieder hindurch können. Es herrscht große Angst und Verzweiflung. Doch sie wissen, dass sie alles, was sie kennen, hinter sich lassen müssen, um zu überleben. Das letzte Kapitel ist Titelstück des Albums, in dem die Geister der Entscheidungen des atlantischen Volkes überdrüssig geworden sind.

Die Überlebenden sind nun verwirrt und verängstigt, und nach einem Treffen mit dem Alkonost beschließen sie, die Clans trotz aller Warnungen hinter die Mauer zu führen. Das Album schließt damit, dass die Geister dieses Reich verlassen und zu neuen Horizonten der Grünen Länder und Könige reisen. Sie lassen die Überlebenden von Atlantis in ihrem neuen Land zurück.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) had released their debut „3.6.2.4“ in 2021. This debut had me very excited and was appreciated accordingly (Review). The single „The Third Pillar“ made it to almost 90,000 views. For a newcomer band an insane success.

With much excitement I have awaited the successor. Now the time has come and the successor „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ will be released next Friday on 27.10.2023 with Hammerheart Records.

It remains bombastic

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS remain true to their chosen direction. This is instantly revealed with the bombastic opener „March Of Titans“. It’s hard to believe, but the sound has become even more bombastic and it is more happening in the sound than on the debut. Incredibly, with which for a vehemence is acted here. The band has just shoveled a big scoop of everything more into the sound. I can hardly decide where to listen first. This could already overwhelm some. But with the opener they have directly served a real blast.

Cineastic

The second song „Lands Of Snow“ impresses with wonderful choirs, which were already an outstanding feature on the single „The Third Pillar“ from the debut, but sound different here. And also here these choruses do not miss their effect. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have pimped their sound. Vocally you get the whole stuff. Screams, growls, clean vocals and choirs are skillfully combined here and also instrumentally there is a hell of a lot going on. It is truly remarkable to pack so much into one song and still let it work as a homogeneous unit.

Stunning

Exactly in the middle they have placed the song „The Alkonost“. And even if we can not speak of a ballad here, so the song is still a rest in the midst of the overwhelming sound attacks on the album. It doesn’t really get quiet here, but they hold back here comparatively and put the melodicism in the foreground. And actually the song contains a true resting place in the second half, whereby you are overrun by a merciless attack towards the end, however.

So into the second half of the album. And they don’t hold back. „Sacremental“ goes violently round, because here raging blast beats will beat you dizzy. It’s crazy that they could still incorporate clean vocals in a wonderful chorus. But GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS let it happen.

„Behind The Wall“

stands out again from its making. Is this the ballad of the album? Well, you could almost call it such. Because the song seems much more relaxed and the tempo remains at a moderate level. However, the song has a great rhythm and beautiful melodicism, which without question exerts a strong fascination. Also here the parallel use of extreme and clean vocals has a strong charisma.

Let’s move on to the album’s title track, which is also the opulent finale. „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ goes a long way with seven minutes. But this path once again demands everything from the band and the listener. First, they take a melodic path, which comes along relatively moderate compared to the entry into the album. But this is not meant negatively, because here the aspects are initially prioritized differently. The song finds itself alternating between acceleration and deceleration. In the middle part, a threatening backdrop slowly builds up, which then finally fully unfolds and thus leads into the martial part of the song. Afterwards, you will be led conciliatory to the end of the album.

Conclusion

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have created with „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ a worthy successor to the debut album „3.6.2.4“. Once again they impress with a cinematic experience of the extra class that overwhelms the listener with a bombastic opulence. Symphonic extreme bombast metal at its best!

After the heroic deeds of the Atlantean people in the last story of „3.6.2.4“, those who were lucky enough to escape the great floods are now washed up on a new land. News of the survivors has spread across the lands and seas. Stories circulate about the survivors who have won the favor of the gods. The riddles of the Sycophants cause great unrest and set chaos and destruction in motion.

Ghosts of Atlantis

Out of fear, the seal of Pandora’s Box is removed in hopes of establishing some balance of power on Earth. Meanwhile, the greed and avarice of mankind have disastrous consequences, bringing about destruction so devastating that the spirits of Atlantis travel once again to the Three Pillars to open a portal. „Riddles Of Sycophants“ is a collection of stories with many well-known and lesser-known characters from different mythologies.

Chaos in the world

The stories of the album are inspired by the folklore of different nations. The album begins with the Atlanteans, led by the oldest sages, seeking out the great Titans. Upon their return, they find that the world has changed. It is a world that has been turned upside down by the chaos that preceded it. This land is far from the sandy and familiar soil of the old home. Now it is covered with snow and danger. Crossing it seems impossible.

Here the spirits join them again and fight their way through the toughest realms and the greatest dangers. Having now traveled through the portal, the spirits witness Pandora’s Box being opened and see the chaos that now unfolds in the many realms. Kings become cannibals, sand turns to snow, mythical creatures from other realms appear.
The gods have become angry. Word spreads that a mythical winged woman can erase the past, for all time.

The sycophants

with gilded tongue try to influence the most powerful kings. In order for people to leave all this behind, they have to seek shelter behind a great wall, even though they know they will never be able to pass through again. There is great fear and despair. But they know that they have to leave everything they know behind in order to survive. „Riddles Of The Sycophants“ is the last chapter of the album, in which the spirits are tired of the decisions of the Atlantean people.

The survivors are now confused and frightened, and after a meeting with the Alkonost, they decide to lead the clans behind the wall, despite all warnings. The album concludes with the spirits leaving this realm and traveling to new horizons of the Green Lands and Kings. They leave the survivors of Atlantis in their new land.

Willkommen bei „METALHEADs Top List 2021 – Teil 3“! Dieser Teil geleitet Euch in noch extreme und finstere Welten. Hier traut sich nicht jeder hin. Das ist etwas für die ganz hartgesottenen Metalfans.

Extreme Metal

Natürlich sind einige Richtungen des Metal schon ziemlich extrem. Und doch gibt es Bands, die lassen sich nicht einem der Subgenres zuordnen. Diese Bands vereinen in ihrem Sound nämlich mehrere extreme Spielarten, so dass man diese Bands nur unter dem Begriff Extreme Metal einordnen kann.

XAEL

aus den U.S.A. sind extrem in jeder Hinsicht. XAEL (Facebook)haben sich für ihre Musik ein eigenes Universum erschaffen. Es geht um den ewigen Kampf von Dynastien, menschliche und göttliche. Dabei ist die Musik harter Tobak und nicht leicht verdaulich. Dies zeigt auch ihr Album „Bloodtide Rising“, welches eine zerstörende Arie verkörpert, die der Naturgewalt eines schweren Unwetters gleicht. Es rollt wie ein Hurricane über Euch hinweg, nimmt Euch auseinander und lässt Euch in Einzelteilen zurück. Vor der Leistung des Schlagzeugers Joshua Nassaru Ward kann man nur den Hut ziehen. Das ist schon Hochleistungssport in der Schießbude. Akkorde und Rhythmen wechseln ihre Persönlichkeit immerfort und bauen sich zu einem progressiven Monster auf. Wahrhaftig können XAEL nicht nur die finstersten und brutalsten Fantasien Wirklichkeit werden lassen. Nein, sie brillieren zwischendurch mit einem Gespür für Melodien.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS

sind auf ihrem Album „3.6.2.4.“ etwas harmonischer unterwegs. Es ist eine Mischung aus Melodic Death und Black Metal mit symphonischen Einlagen. Allerdings wird der Gesang hier häufiger auch in cleaner melodischer Form dargeboten. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) schmettern den Dreizack mit aller Gewalt in die Erde und lassen die Welt, einem gewaltigen Seebeben gleich, erzittern. „3.6.2.4“ ist ein mächtiges kolossales Album, dass Euch garantiert beindrucken wird. Es gibt auf dem Album keine Ausfälle, nur Monstertracks. Man wird von der gewaltigen Soundkulisse förmlich überwältigt. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS kreieren reichhaltige Soundlandschaften gleich einem pompösen Kinoblockbuster. Alles wirkt wohldurchdacht, abwechslungsreich und doch homogen. Es ist eine interessante Mischung, mit der GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS meiner Meinung nach mit dem Sound ihres Debütalbums eine eigene Nische gefunden haben. (Review)

ZORNHEYM mit „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“

ZORNHEYM (Facebook) sind sehr vielseitig aufgestellt. Der Sound ist eine wahre Wundertüte der harten Künste und bedient sich auch symphonischer Elemente. Aber alles passt zu dem musikalischen Thema der Band und zur Geschichte und Inhalt der Alben. Wer mehr darüber wissen möchte, darf sich gerne das Interview mit Zorn durchlesen. (Interview „Faszination des Bösen“) Denn das Gesamtkonzept entspringt einer Geschichte um ein Anstalt namens „Zornheim“ und seiner nicht ganz so normalen Insassen. Zum ersten Album „Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns“ gab es zur Geschichte sogar ein Comic. Nun folgt mit „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“ der zweite Teil der Geschichte.

ZORNHEYM bieten mit „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“ ein extremes cineastisches Erlebnis, dass niemanden unbeeindruckt zurücklassen wird. Ein perfekt ausgearbeitetes Kunstwerk, dass mit allerlei Facetten daherkommt. Göttlichen Melodien gepaart mit einer Spur Wahnsinn und einer teils erschreckenden Brutalität schlagen sich hier nieder. Eine verdammt intensive Erfahrung voller Dramaturgie, die eine ungewöhnliche Faszination ausübt und dazu führt, dass man sich aufgrund der vielen Eindrücke und genialen Ideen das Album wieder und wieder anhört, um in die Welt von ZORNHEYM abzutauchen. Melodic Death Metal

ORBIT CULTURE

haben zwar mit „Shaman“ nur eine EP veröffentlicht. Allerdings geschah dies bereits ein Jahr nach ihrem letzten Kracheralbum „Nija“. Man hat das Gefühl, dass ORBIT CULTURE (Facebook) gar kein durchschnittliches gutes Album machen können. Die Outputs der Band sind immer eine Klasse für sich. Dies trifft auch auf „Shaman“ zu. ORBIT CULTURE bieten nach wie vor monumentalen brachialen Melodic-Death-Metal, der in seiner Art einzigartig ist.  Der Sound ist wie gehabt kompromisslos hart. Von monstermäßigen Drums und krassem Bass, über die überragenden Riffs bis hin zu dem geilen Gesang sind ORBIT CULTURE unvergleichlich. Das gesamte auditive Gesamtkonzept bieten ein fantastisches Hörerlebnis. Das ist nicht einfach nur stumpfe Power ohne Sinn und Verstand, sondern eine geschickte soundtechnische Kriegsführung, die keinen Widerstand duldet und Euer Herz im Sturm erobert. EX DEO

haben mit “ The Thirteen Years Of Nero“ ein mächtig imposantes Album hervorgebracht. Die fette druckvolle Produktion ist für den EX DEO-Sound wie geschaffen und steigert den ohnehin schon kolossalen Charakter der Songs zu einem brutalen Erdbeben. Die Atmosphäre ist noch dichter geworden und die Abwechslung bzw. der Mut im Songwriting ist deutlich spürbar, könnte meiner Meinung nach aber noch ein wenig mutiger und ausgefallener ( wie z.B. im ersten Song „The Fall Of Claudius“) ausfallen. Die imposanten Songkohorten des Albums kämpfen sich unerschrocken in die Oberliga des Melodic-Death-Metal. So viel ist sicher! Eine imponierende Geschichtsstunde von EX DEO (Facebook), die man so schnell nicht vergessen wird und bleienden Eindruck hinterlässt. HIRAES

sind zwar noch eine junge Band, aber die Mitglieder sind schon gute alte Bekannte. Wer auf geilen melodischen Death Metal steht, dem wird die Band DAWN Of DISEASE ein Begriff sein. Leider haben sie sich aufgelöst. Doch wo ein Ende ist, ist auch meistens immer ein Neuanfang. Und dieser Neuanfang heißt HIRAES (Facebook). Akustisch gibt es ordentlich etwas vor den Latz geknallt. Britta Goertz brüllt mit finsteren Growls standesgemäß energisch drauflos. Dabei gelingt die Balance zwischen brutalen schmetternden und melodischen Parts sehr gut. Alles andere entspricht ebenfalls hohen Standards, so dass die Zeichen sehr gut für eine erfolgreiche Zukunft stehen. Mit dem feurigen Video zur ersten Singleauskopplung „Under Fire“ hat man jedenfalls nicht nur soundtechnisch alles in Flammen gesetzt. (Review)

ACT OF DENIAL mit „Negative“

ACT OF DENIAL (Facebook) sind als sogenannte Supergroup gestartet, und zwar mit folgendem Line-Up: Sänger Björn Strid (Soilwork), Gitarristen Luger (Koziak, Benighted-Cro) und Voi Cox (Koziak, Victim), Bassist Steve Di Giorgio (Death, Testament), Drummer Kerim “Krimh” Lechner (Septicflesh) and Keyboarder John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra).

Luger (Interview) und Voi Cox haben das Projekt ins Leben gerufen. Mittlerweile wurden die sehr bekannten Gastmusiker gegen ein stabiles Line-Up ausgetauscht, um auch zukünftig live spielen zu können. Denn man kann sich denken, dass die namenhafte Erstbesetzung mit ihren eigenen Bands genug zu tun hat.

Ein Album der Superlativen! Um es mit einem kleine Wortspiel zu beschreiben: Ein Act Of Genial! Anders kann ich es nicht bezeichnen. Es gibt hier überhaupt rein gar nichts zu meckern. Von vorne bis hinten ein Killeralbum! Wer da ein Haar in der Suppe findet, der leidet wahrscheinlich an Haarausfall. An den Songs kann es jedenfalls nicht liegen. Das ist High-End-Metal, den man meiner Meinung nach nicht besser machen kann. Das ist pures explosives Dynamit, welches Eure Metalsynapsen in einem Feuerwerk hochgehen lässt. Ein Megabrett und absolute Extraklasse! (Review)

Black Metal

1914

brauche ich wohl niemandem mehr vorzustellen. Ihr Sound ist eine Mischung aus Death Metal und Black Metal. Sie widmen sich durchweg der Kriegsthematik und das in einer ernsten Art und Weise, die nichts zu beschönigen hat. Es sind zum Teil originale Überlieferungen von Soldaten, die diesen Krieg am eigenen Leib erfahren haben und die Grundlage der Songtexte bilden. 1914 setzen ihre ganz eigene Art der Geschichtsaufarbeitung mit „Where Fear And Weapons Meet“ erschreckend eindrucksvoll fort. Sie verfeinern bzw. intensivieren ihren Sound diesmal mit orchestralen Elementen, die in der richtigen Dosierung dem musikalischen Donnerwetter eine noch größere Dimension verleihen. Der Sound von 1914 ist wie der Krieg! Schonungslos und unerbittlich! (Review)

Kanonenfieber

als Ein-Mann-Projekt hatte dieses Jahr meine Aufmerksamkeit erregt, als BandCamp mir irgendwann diese Platte vorgeschlagen hatte. Das Cover von „Menschenmühle“ war schon ziemlich heftig und ich war mir nicht sicher, was mich erwarten würde. Aber was dann folgte, hatte mich echt geplättet. BLACK METAL vom allergemeinsten, und das in deutscher Sprache. Das hört man nicht alle Tage! KANONENFIEBER (Facbook) behandelt die gleiche Thematik wie 1914 und bringt musikalisch schonungslos die Schrecken des Krieges zum Ausdruck. Der Sound ist passenderweise rabiat und roh mit gnadenloser Aggressivität, verzichtet aber nicht auf gefällige Melodien.

Das Songwriting ist sehr gut gelungen. Es wird auch kein musikalischer Einheitsbrei serviert, sondern mit charakteristischen Songs eine tiefe Atmosphäre gestrickt. Dabei empfinde ich es als sehr positiv, dass man auf Anhieb viel von den Texten verstehen kann, auch wenn hier cleane Vocals nichts verloren haben. Ich kann dieses Album wärmstens jedem Black Metal Fan ans Herz legen. Ein erschreckend intensives Monsteralbum.

WINDFAERER

stammen aus Amerika. Witzigerweise wurde mir das Album „Breaths of Elder Dawns“ ebenfalls über BandCamp ans Herz gelegt. Und wieder war es eine sehr gute Empfehlung. WINDFAERER (Facebook) mischen Black Metal mit Folk-Elementen, die hier mittels einer Violine eingespielt werden. Ich habe eine Schwäche für dieses Instrument, weil es eines der Instrumente ist, die am meisten Atmosphäre erzeugen können. Tatsächlich habe ich es schon in vielen Metal-Genres gehört, aber Black Metal gehörte nicht dazu. Und auch das funktioniert! Im Falle von WINDFAERER sogar verdammt eindrucksvoll. Hier wird die Violine teilweise wie eine Gitarre eingesetzt.

Der Sound ist monumental und WINDFAERER zaubern teilweise epische Passagen hervor, die mich völlig in ihren Bann ziehen. So einen Sound habe ich noch nie gehört. Jeder muss sich dieses Album anhören, wenn er mal etwas anderen Black Metal hören möchte. Es ist eine atemberaubende Vorstellung, die WINDFAERER abliefern. Das Album hat sich quasi im letzten Moment für meine Bestenliste qualifiziert, obwohl das Album schon etwas länger auf dem Markt ist. Aber ich bin erst gestern darüber gestolpert und ich war auf Anhieb so davon überzeugt, dass ich es hier erwähnen muss. Und es hätte genauso an der Spitze stehen können. Doch letztlich ist es eine Band geworden aus dem kalten Norden.

NIGHT CROWNED mit „Hädanfärd“

NIGHTCROWNED habe mich schlichtweg umgehauen. Hier wird Black Metal mit einer vernichtenden Energie entfesselt. Diesem Sturm kann man nicht standhalten. Es ist ein eiskaltes Höllenfest mit 9 bitterschwarzen Songs. „Hädanfard“ ist moderner rifflastiger Black Metal der Sonderklasse! Ein imponierende schwarze epische Machtdemonstration! NIGHT CROWNED gehen mit unbändiger Energie zu Werke und schlagen mit aller dunkler Gewalt zu. Dabei gelingt es ihnen eine hervorragende Balance zwischen brutalen wilden Ausbrüchen und melodischen Anteilen zu erschaffen und so gelingt es Ihnen der Dunkelheit ein facettenreiches Dasein aufzuerlegen. Grundsätzlich bleibt aber der wilde durchschlagende Charakter erhalten und eben genau das ist die hohe Kunst des Ganzen. (Review)

VIKING METAL

THYRFING

Die finsteren Gesellen von THYRFING (Facebook ) aus dem nordischen Schweden haben sich ganze acht Jahre Zeit gelassen und treten nun mit ihrem neuen Longplayer „Vanagandr“ (VÖ 27.08.2021) an, um sich endlich nach dieser langen Zeit der Abstinenz mit einem Paukenschlag wieder Gehör zu verschaffen. Wir erleben hier Metal, der unheimlich wuchtig und monumental aufschlägt. Sänger Jens Rydén schreddert sich als dunkler Lord in seiner Landessprache durch die Songs und im Chorus wird mehrstimmig geschmettert.  Finstere epische Landschaften tun sich auf. Insgessamt bewegen sich die Songs meist im Midtempo-Bereich, brechen hier und da aber auch mal mit Blastbeat-Attacken aus diesem Korsett aus. Im gewaltigen Sound mischen sich symphonische Elemente ein. Hier spielen Streicher meistens die Hauptrolle. (Review / Interview )

EINHERJER mit „North Star“

EINHERJER ( Facebook ) lassen die Götter und auch `metal-heads.de´ mit ihrem neuen Album „North Star“ wieder einmal aufhorchen und bieten einen Anlass in Valhalla mal wieder richtig die Sau rauszulassen. Das Album ist im Februar erschienen und konnte sich bis zum Ende den Spitzenplatz sichern. Was mich vor allem an dem Album begeistert, ist der ungemeine Spielwitz und die Spielfreude der Band, die einem bei jedem Song entgegenschlägt. Man nehme z.B. den Song „West Coast Groove“. Der Titel impliziert es schon. Der Song hat wirklich einen giftigen Groove, der einen einfach mitnimmt und Laune macht. Dafür gibt es mit beispielsweise mit „The Blood & The Iron“ eine durchschlagende Schlachthymne par excellence geliefert. Das ist VIKING-Metal wie er leibt und lebt! (Review / Interview )

Extreme Metal

Of course, some directions of metal are already quite extreme. And yet there are bands that can not be assigned to one of the subgenres. These bands combine several extreme styles in their sound, so that these bands can only be classified under the term Extreme Metal.

XAEL

from the U.S.A. are extreme in every respect. XAEL(Facebook) have created their own universe for their music. It is about the eternal struggle of dynasties, human and divine. Thereby the music is hard stuff and not easy to digest. This is also shown by their album „Bloodtide Rising“, which embodies a destructive aria that resembles the force of nature of a heavy storm. It rolls over you like a hurricane, takes you apart and leaves you in pieces. Praise and recognition for the performance of drummer Joshua Nassaru Ward. Chords and rhythms are constantly changing their personalities and building up to a progressive monster. XAEL can not only make the darkest and most brutal fantasies come true. No, they shine in between with a flair for melodies.

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS

are more harmonic and melodic on their album „3.6.2.4. It is a mixture of Melodic Death and Black Metal with symphonic interludes. However, the vocals are presented here more often in cleaner melodic form. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook) smash the trident with all their might into the earth and let the world tremble, like a mighty seaquake. „3.6.2.4“ is a powerful colossal album that is guaranteed to impress you. There are no failures on the album, only monster tracks. One is literally overwhelmed by the mighty soundscape. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS create deep soundscapes like a pompous cinema blockbuster. Everything seems well thought out, varied and yet homogeneous. It is an interesting mixture, with which GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have found their own niche with the sound of their debut album, in my opinion. (Review)

ZORNHEYM with „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“

ZORNHEYM (Facebook) are very versatile. The sound is a real grab bag of hard arts and also uses symphonic elements. But everything fits the musical theme of the band and the history and content of the albums. If you want to know more about it, feel free to read the interview with Zorn (Interview „Faszination Of Evil“). Because the overall concept comes from a story about an asylum called „Zornheim“ and its crazy inmates. For the first album „Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns“ there was even a comic for the story. Now follows with „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“ the second part of the story.

ZORNHEYM offer with „The Zornheim Sleep Experiment“ an extreme cinematic experience that will leave no one unimpressed. A perfectly elaborated work of art that comes along with all kinds of Metal facets. Divine melodies paired with a hint of madness and a partly terrifying brutality strike here. A damn intense experience full of dramaturgy, which exerts an unusual fascination and leads to the fact that one listens to the album again and again due to the many impressions and ingenious ideas to dive into the world of ZORNHEYM. Melodic Death Metal

ORBIT CULTURE

have released the EP „Shaman“. However, this happened already one year after their last smash album „Nija“. I have the feeling that ORBIT CULTURE (Facebook) cannot make an average good album at all. The outputs of the band are always in a class of their own. This is also true for „Shaman“. ORBIT CULTURE still offer monumental brute melodic death metal, which is unique in its kind.  The sound is as usual uncompromisingly hard. From monster drums and killer bass, to the outstanding riffs and awesome vocals, ORBIT CULTURE are incomparable. The entire overall auditory concept provide a fantastic listening experience. This is not just dull power without sense or reason, but a skillful sound warfare that will not tolerate any resistance and will take your heart by storm (Review / Interview mit Frontmann Niklas)

EX DEO

have produced a mighty impressive album with “ The Thirteen Years Of Nero“. This fat powerful production fits perfectly to the EX DEO sound and increases the already colossal character of the songs to a brutal earthquake. The atmosphere has become even denser and the variety or courage in the songwriting is clearly noticeable, but in my opinion could still be a little bolder and more unusual ( such as in the first song „The Fall Of Claudius“). The imposing song cohorts of the album fight their way fearlessly into the upper league of Melodic Death Metal. That much is for sure! An impressive history lesson from EX DEO (Facebook), which will not be forgotten so quickly and leaves a lasting impression. HIRAES

are still a young band, but the members are already good old mates. If you like Melodic Death Metal, you will know the band DAWN OF DISEASE. Unfortunately they broke up. But where there is an end, there is always a new beginning. And this new beginning is called HIRAES(Facebook) and their new album „Solitary“. Acoustically you get a nice balance between brutal blaring and melodic parts. That succeeds very well. Britta Goertz roars with sinister growls as befits her status energetically on it. Everything else also meets high standards, so that the signs are very good for a successful future. With the hellish video for the first single release „Under Fire“, the band has set everything on fire, not only in terms of sound.(Review)

ACT OF DENIAL with „Negative“

ACT OF DENIAL (Facebook)started as a so-called supergroup with the following line-up: vocalist Björn Strid (Soilwork), guitarists Luger (Koziak, Benighted-Cro) and Voi Cox (Koziak, Victim), bassist Steve Di Giorgio (Death, Testament), drummer Kerim „Krimh“ Lechner (Septicflesh) and keyboardist John Lönnmyr (The Night Flight Orchestra).

Luger (Interview) and Voi Cox brought the project to life. In the meantime, the very well-known guest musicians have been exchanged for a stable line-up in order to be able to play live in the future. Because you can imagine that the first named line-up has enough to do with their own bands.

An album of superlatives! To describe it with a little play on words: An Act Of Genius! I can’t describe it any other way. There is absolutely nothing to complain about. From front to back a killer album! This is high-end Metal that, in my opinion, can’t be done any better. This is pure explosive dynamite, which will blow up your Metal synapses in a firework. ACT OF DENIAL nailed it! (Review)

Black Metal

1914

I probably don’t need to introduce to anyone anymore. Their sound is a mixture of death metal and black metal. They devote themselves throughout to the war theme and that in a serious way, which has nothing to gloss over. Some of the songs are original lore from soldiers who experienced this war first hand and form the basis of the song lyrics. 1914 continue their very own way of dealing with history with „Where Fear And Weapons Meet“ in a frighteningly impressive way. They refine or rather intensify their sound this time with orchestral elements, which in the right dosage give the musical thunderstorm an even greater dimension. The sound of 1914 is like war! Relentless and unrelenting! (Review)

Kanonenfieber

as a one-man project had caught my attention this year when BandCamp suggested this record to me at some point. The cover of „Menschenmühle“ was strange and I wasn’t sure what to expect. But what followed really flattered me. BLACK METAL at its best, and in German language. You don’t hear that every day! KANONENFIEBER (Facebook) deals with the same subject matter as 1914 and musically relentlessly expresses the horrors of war. The sound is fittingly raucous and raw with merciless aggression, but does not forgo pleasing melodies.

The songwriting is very well done. There is also no musical mishmash served, but with characteristic songs knitted a deep atmosphere. I find it very positive that you can understand a lot of the lyrics right away, even if clean vocals have lost nothing here. I can warmly recommend this album to every black metal fan. A frighteningly intense monster album.

WINDFAERER

come from America. Funnily enough, the album „Breaths of Elder Dawns“ was also recommended to me via BandCamp. And again it was a very good recommendation. WINDFAERER (Facebook) mix Black Metal with Folk elements, which are presented here by a violin. In fact, I have heard it in many metal genres, but black metal was not one of them. And this works as well! In the case of WINDFAERER even damn impressive. Here the violin is partly used like a guitar.

The sound is monumental and WINDFAERER conjure up partly epic passages that completely captivate me. I have never heard a sound like this before. Everyone must listen to this album if they want to hear something different Black Metal. It is a breathtaking performance that WINDFAERER deliver. The album qualified for my top list at the last moment, so to speak, even though the album has been out for a bit longer. But I just stumbled upon it a few days ago and I was so convinced of it right away that I have to mention it here. And it could just as easily have been at the top. But in the end the top place is for a band from the cold north.

NIGHT CROWNED with „Hädanfärd“

NIGHTCROWNED simply blew me away. Here Black Metal is unleashed with a devastating energy. This storm is impossible to withstand. It’s an ice cold hellfest with 9 bitter black songs. „Hädanfard“ is modern riff-heavy Black Metal in a class of its own! An imposing black epic demonstration of power! NIGHT CROWNED go to work with irrepressible energy and strike with all dark violence. They manage to create an excellent balance between brutal wild outbursts and melodic parts and thus succeed in imposing a multifaceted existence on the darkness. Basically, however, the wild resounding character remains and exactly that is the speciality of „Hädanfärd“. (Review)

VIKING METAL

THYRFING

The sinister fellows of THYRFING (Facebook ) from the Nordic Sweden have taken a whole eight years and now enter with their new output „Vanagandr“ to finally make themselves heard again with a bang after this long period of abstinence. We experience here Metal that strikes incredibly massive and monumental. Singer Jens Rydén shreds as a dark lord in his native language through the songs. Dark epic landscapes open up. Overall, the songs are mostly in the midtempo range, but break out of this corset here and there with blastbeat attacks. In the massive sound symphonic elements mix in. Strings mostly play the main role here. (Review / Interview).

EINHERJER with „North Star“

It’s time for merciless battles again. EINHERJER ( Facebook ) released „North Star“ in February and could secure the top position until the end. What I love most about the album is the band’s immense playfulness, which comes across in every song. Take the song „West Coast Groove“ for example. The title already implies it. The song really has a toxic groove that simply takes you along and makes mood. For example, „The Blood & The Iron“ is a resounding battle hymn par excellence. This is VIKING metal as it lives and breathes! (Review / Interview )

wenn ein Debütalbum mit einer vollen Punktzahl geehrt wird. Aber nach dem Anhören des neuen Albums „3.6.2.4“ von GHOSTS OF ATLATNIS (Facebook ) konnte ich einfach nicht anders. Es hat mich schon beim ersten Hören geflasht, aber erst nach mehrmaligem Hören konnte ich wie sooft erst all die Details und Raffinesse erfassen und genießen (Review ). Natürlich bin ich sehr neugierig darauf, was für Männer diesen musikalischen Blockbuster ins Leben gerufen haben. Maßgeblich war auch Colin Parks am Songwriting beteiligt, der bei GOA als Gitarrist und als Kontrastsänger zu Phil tätig ist.

Der mystische Background

MH: Schon euer Bandname GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS beinhaltet eine gewisse Mystik. Der Albumtitel „3.6.2.4“ ist sogar noch mystischer und geheimnisvoller. Ich weiß, ihr wollt nicht zu viel darüber verraten, damit die Hörer selbst auf die Suche nach der Lösung gehen.
Aber gibt es vielleicht einen kleinen Hinweis auf den Hintergrund dieser Zahlen? Sind es Koordinaten?

Colin Parks: Es sind auf jeden Fall Koordinaten! „3.6.2.4“ ist der Kartenbezugspunkt auf der Meerenge von Gibraltar, hier liegt der Legende nach Atlantis unter der Wasseroberfläche.

MH: Warum habt ihr euch für den Bandnamen GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS entschieden?

Colin: Wir sind erst vor etwa 5 Jahren darauf gekommen, er hatte zu dem Zeitpunkt keine massive Bedeutung.

Bezüge zur Gegenwart

MH: Ist es wegen der mystischen Aura und den Legenden um Atlantis oder hat es eine tiefere Bedeutung? Gibt es Bezüge zur Gegenwart?

Colin: Es gibt viele Verweise auf die Gegenwart! Tracks wie „False Prophet“ und „The Curse Of Man“ sprechen von unserer zerstörerischen Natur, Gier und Machtgelüsten.

MH: Welche historische Periode findest Du am interessantesten?

Colin: Ich finde die Zeiten von Atlantis, die Ming-Dynastie und biblische Zeiten sehr interessant. Ich finde auch Zeitabschnitte, die noch nicht stattgefunden haben, unglaublich interessant.

MH: Euer Album gleicht einem aufwendig produzierten Kinofilm.
Seid ihr Filmfans?

Colin: Wir sind riesige Film- und Spielefans, ich wollte unbedingt andere Medien nutzen, um den Sound und die erzählerische Aura von GOA zu verstärken.

MH: Was war der letzte Film, den Du Dir im Kino ansehen konntest?

Colin: Der letzte Film, den ich gesehen habe, war Bad Boys 3, und ich habe ihn geliebt!

MH: Was sind Deine Lieblingsfilme und warum?

Colin:

• „Shutter Island“ – Ich liebe die Leistung von Di Carpio und das Drehbuch
• „1917“ – Faszinierende Regie und Kinematographie
• „Blazing Saddles“ – Klassische Komödie, die buchstäblich jeden beleidigt.
• „Demolition Man“ – Hat mich durch eine wirklich harte Zeit in meinem Leben gebracht.
• „Flight of the Navigator“ – Kindheitsfavorit.
• „Star Wars“ – … fast alle davon
• „Herr der Ringe“ – … Alle von ihnen

Vom Chorsänger zum Metalrebell

MH: Colin, Du bist in einer musikalischen Familie aufgewachsen und wurdest dementsprechend inspiriert, allerdings anders, als man es sich vielleicht vorstellen mag. Zunächst lerntest Du am Klavier. Parallel dazu wurdest Du im Gesang, genauer gesagt im klassischen Chorgesang, ausgebildet. Im Alter von 11 Jahren erhieltest Du eine Auszeichnung für Deine himmlischen Gesangskünste und hattest sogar die Ehre, im Königshaus zu singen.
Wie bist Du damals in die Welt des Rock und Metal gekommen? Welche Band hat es geschafft, Sie mit welchem Song zu begeistern?

Colin: Für mich waren es METALLICA mit dem „Black“ Album“! „Of wolf and man“-Das ist ein Monster! Und dann waren da noch EXTREME mit „Pornografitti“.

Sakraler Einfluss auf GOA

MH: Bisher bist du eher als Gitarrist in Erscheinung getreten.
Was hat dazu geführt, dass du jetzt neben deiner Rolle als Gitarrist auch mehr gesanglich beiträgst?

Colin: Ich war wirklich stark in das Songwriting involviert, und ich wollte das nutzen, um ein anderes Element in das Chaos zu bringen, fast wie eine Ruhe im Gemetzel, wenn man so will.

MH: Wurden die sakralen Refrains wie z.B. im Song „The Third Pillar“ von Deinen ersten Gesangserfahrungen als Kind inspiriert?

Colin: Ja, ich liebe Chormusik zu 100%.

Der Glaube an sich

MH: Auf Eurem Album geht es mehr um die alten Götter und ihre Geschichten. Du bist ja auch noch Mitglied der Band DEVILMENT.
Bist du immer noch mit dem christlichen Glauben und der Kirche verbunden oder haben sich die Ansichten und Einstellungen geändert?

Colin: Ich bin nicht wirklich für oder gegen das Christentum, ich habe eine christliche Moral für den größten Teil, denke ich. Heutzutage glaube ich daran, Menschen zu helfen und zu versuchen, freundlich und akzeptierend gegenüber anderen zu sein. Ich finde, Religion ist offen für den Irrsinn von allen extremistischen Glaubensanhängern .

MH: „Halls Of Lemuria“ war der erste Song, der für das Album geschrieben wurde. Wann wurde dieser Song geschrieben und gab es zu diesem Zeitpunkt bereits Pläne für GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS?
Waren andere Songs bereits in Arbeit oder haben Sie den Rest in Zusammenarbeit arrangiert?

Colin: „Halls Of Lemuria“ war Anfang 2020 fertig und ich hatte bereits in unserer alten Band TCW (THE CONFLICT WITHIN) mit Riffs und Ideen begonnen.
„The Third Pillar“ und “ The Curse Of Man“ habe ich ungefähr zur gleichen Zeit geschrieben und sie waren speziell für GOA.

MH: GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS besteht aus erfahrenen Musikern, von denen einige schon lange in einer Band (THE CONFLICT WITHIN) zusammenarbeiten.
Was war der Anreiz, ein neues Projekt zu starten?
Wo und wie habt ihr Phil und Alzebub gefunden?

Colin: TCW ist GOA plus Alzebub, aber es wurde ein langer LANGER WEG zurückgelegt und diese Zeit wurde dafür genutzt, es so massiv wie möglich zu machen und keinen Stein auf dem anderen zu lassen.
Alzebub, Rob und ich haben vor 15 Jahren in einer Melodic Thrash/Death Band namens REBIRTH gespielt. Also ist die ganze Band schon seit vielen Monden zusammen.

Besonders sein

MH: GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS vereinen eine Menge in ihrer Musik und man könnte viele Vergleiche zu anderen Bands ziehen, die einen Teil eurer Musik ausmachen. Aber insgesamt habt Ihr es geschafft, Euren ganz eigenen Sound zu kreieren, der aus melodischem Death Metal mit feinen Black Metal Einflüssen besteht und mit orchestralen Elementen versehen ist.
Wie ist der Sound von GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS zustande gekommen?

Colin: Im Grunde habe ich mich ein Jahr lang im Studio eingeschlossen und die Musik geschrieben, wenn ich nicht auf der Arbeit war.

MH: Was waren die ersten Ideen?

Colin: Ich wollte einfach meine Erfahrung und meine Stärken im Songwriting nutzen und etwas Aufregendes machen und versuchen, es besonders werden zu lassen.

MH: Wie schwierig ist es heutzutage, in der Musikwelt aufzufallen und etwas Neues zu schaffen?

Colin: Sehr, sehr schwierig!!!

It is a rare feature

when a debut album is honoured with a full score. But after listening to the new album „3.6.2.4“ by GHOSTS OF ATLATNIS (Facebook ), I just couldn’t do anything else. It already flashed me on the first listen, but only after repeated listenings you can grasp and enjoy all the details and sophistication of the work (Review ). Naturally, I´m very curious to know what kind of men launched this musical blockbuster. Also significantly involved in the songwriting was Colin Parks, who is GOA’s guitarist and a contrasting vocalist to Phil.

The mystical background

MH: Already your band name GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS contains a certain mysticism. The album title „3.6.2.4“ is even more mystical and mysterious. I know you don’t want to reveal too much about that, so that the listeners start searching for the solution themselves. But is there perhaps a small hint to the background of this numbers? Are they coordinates?

Colin: They certainly are coordinates  „3.6.2.4“ is the map reference point on the strait of Gibraltar, this is where legend tells us that Atlantis lays beneath the surface. 

MH: Why did you decide on the band name GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS? 

Colin: We just came up with it about 5 years ago, it had no massive meaning at the time. 

References to the present

MH: Is it because of the mystical aura and the legends around Atlantis or does it have a deeper meaning? Are there references to the present day?

Colin: There are many pointings to the present day, tracks such as „False Prophet“ and „The Curse Of Man“ speak of our destructive nature, greed and lust for power. 

MH: Which historical period do you find most interesting?

Colin: I find the times of Atlantis, the Ming Dynasty, and biblical times very interesting. I also find time periods yet to occur, incredibly interesting. 

Cinema formats

MH: Your album resembles a lavishly produced cinema film. Are you film fans?

Colin: We are huge movie and gaming fans! I wanted to really utilise other forms of media to add to the sound and storytelling aura of GOA.

MH:  What was the last film you were able to watch at the cinema? 

Colin: The last movie I watched was „Bad Boys 3″, and i loved it! 

MH: What are your favourite films and why?

Colin:

• „Shutter Island“ – I love the performance by Dicarpio and the script writing.

MH: Colin, you grew up in a musical family and were inspired accordingly, but differently than one might imagine. First you learned to play the piano, and in parallel you were trained in singing, or more precisely, in choral singing. At the age of 11, you received an award for your heavenly singing skills and even had the honour of singing in the royal house. How did you enter the world of rock and metal back then? Which band succeeded in inspiring you with which song?

Colin: For me it was METALLICA „Black“ Album! The Song „Of Wolf And Man“ is a monster! And there was also Extreme with „Pornografitti“!

Sacral influence on GOA

MH: So far, you have appeared more as a guitarist. What led to the fact that you are now contributing more vocally in addition to your role as a guitarist?

Colin: I have really been heavily involved in the songwriting, and I wanted to use that to bring a different element to the chaos, almost like a calm in the carnage if you will. 

MH: Were the sacred choruses like on the song „The Third Pillar“ inspired by your first childhood singing experiences?

Colin: Yes 100% I love choral music. 

Faith

MH: Your album is more about the old gods and their stories. You are also still a member of the band DEVILMENT. Are you still connected to the Christian faith and the church or have views and attitudes changed?

Colin: I am not really for, or against Christianity, I have Christian morales for the most part i guess. These days I believe in helping people and trying to be kind and accepting of others. I find religion is open to the insanity of all extremist faith followers .

MH: „Halls Of Lemuria“ was the first song written for the album. When was this song written and were there already plans for GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS at that time? Were other songs already in the works or did you arrange the rest in collaboration?

Colin: „Halls Of Lemuria“ was finished early 2020 and I had already began riffs and ideas in our old band TCW (The Conflict Within). I wrote pillars and curse around the same time and they were specifically for GOA. 

MH: GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS consists of experienced musicians, some of whom have already worked together in a band (The Conflict Within) for a long time. What was the incentive to start a new project? Where and how did you find Phil and Alzebub?

Colin: TCW is GOA plus Alzebub, however it has come on a LONG WAY as the time was dedicated to make this as massive as possible and leave no stone unturned. Alzebub, myself, and Rob played in a melodic thrash/death band called rebirth 15 years ago so the whole band has been together for many moons. 

Be special

MH: GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS combine a lot in their music and one could draw many comparisons to other bands that make up part of your music. But as a whole you have succeeded in creating your very own sound which consists of melodic death metal with fine black metal influences and is provided with orchestral elements. How did the sound of GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS come about? 

Colin: Basically I locked myself away in the studio for a year and wrote the music when i was not at work. What were the first ideas? Just to take my experience and songwriting strengths and make Something exciting and try make it special. How difficult is it nowadays to stand out and create something new in the music world?

Colin: Very, very difficult!!!

MH: Of course, you still deserve the last words if you want to say something. I thank you in any case for your time and effort.

Colin: Thank you to everyone that has believed in this project, it means the world to us! We are a band of friends and we want to help other’s by making music that can get them through tough times. If we achieve that , then we have succeeded in taking the first steps to being a truly worthwhile band. 

Melodic-Symphonic-Death-Metal

Man kann schon an der Kategorisierung erkennen, dass GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook ) ein Menge in sich vereinen. Ihr Debütalbum mit dem geheimnisvollen Titel „3.6.2.4“ erscheint am 26.03.2021. Der Inhalt des Albums verwebt die Mythologie rund um die sagenumwobene Stadt Atlantis mit Bezügen zur aktuellen Zeit, fiktiven Geschehnissen und will den Hörer auf eine fantastische Reise mitnehmen. Der Titel mit der Zahlenfolge „3.6.2.4“ erklärt sich erst einmal nicht und die Band hilft auch nicht weiter, denn diese ruft absichtlich zum Rätselraten auf, was den Titel des Albums angeht. Vielleicht bringt das anstehende Interview hier auf `metal-heads.de´ mehr Licht ins Dunkel.

Bombast pur

Den Song „The Third Pillar“ habe ich als ersten Song auf YouTube entdeckt und ich war total begeistert . Der Song ist genial! Der Melodic-Death-Metal ist symphonisch aufgepeppt und erzeugt einen monumentalen Sound. Die epische Komponente bekommt noch zusätzlichen Schub durch den sakralen majestätischen Chorus.

Trotz aller Härte legen GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS viel Wert auf Harmonien und einer Portion Theatralik. Höret und sehet selbst.

Poseidon

als mächtiger Gott des Meeres hätte an diesem intensiven vor Kraft strotzenden Sound seine helle Freude. Der Sound vermittelt mitunter pures heroisches Feeling. Dabei entwickelt er eine Intensität wie ein ausbrechender unterirdischer Vulkan, der das Meer zum Beben bringt und riesige Flutwellen aufleben lässt. Hierbei sei passenderweise der Song „Poseidons Bow“ hervorzuheben, der mit seiner ungeheuren Präsenz und Power besticht. Der Song ist ein wahres Füllhorn von musikalischen Eindrücken. Exemplarisch genannt seien hier die schnellen dramatischen Gitarrenleads in den Strophen und das hervorstechende Gitarrensolo. Auch der Chorus mit den beiden Stimmen kann voll und ganz überzeugen. Sänger Phil Primmer shoutet düster aggressiv, wohingegen Colin Parks immer wieder wohlklingende cleane Gesangslinien einstreut. Dies passt sehr gut zum musikalischen Stil, vor allem deswegen, weil das kontrastierende Konzept nicht immer einem bestimmten Schema folgt, sondern individuell den Songs angepasst und ihrer Ausstrahlung dienlich ist. Das sorgt für

Spannung und Aufregung.

Man wird von der gewaltigen Soundkulisse förmlich überwältigt. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS kreieren reichhaltige Soundlandschaften gleich einem pompösen Kinoblockbuster. Alles wirkt wohldurchdacht, abwechslungsreich und doch homogen. Es ist eine interessante Mischung, mit der GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS meiner Meinung nach eine eigene Nische gefunden haben. Elemente des Sounds finden sich hier und da bei anderen Bands, aber in der Form vereint kenne ich zur Zeit zumindest keine andere Band, die das so praktiziert. (Wenn man Vergleiche sucht, dann könnte man DIMMU BORGIR oder EX DEO anführen.)

Keine Schwäche

Es fällt schwer einzelne Song rauszupicken und herauszustellen, denn es sind allesamt hochwertige Songs, denen es an nichts mangelt. Man nehme z.B. den ruhigen Zwischenpart mit cleanem Gesang beim Song „Gardens Of Athena“! Wow, was für eine Stimme! In der ganzen Gewaltigkeit glänzt Colin mit einer gefühlvollen Einlage und erzeugt damit eine ganz magische Atmosphäre. Überragend!

In all der ganzen opulenten Darbietung ist mir persönlich besonders auch Drummer Rob Garner aufgefallen. Er zeigt meiner Meinung nach wirklich eine außergewöhnliche Leistung. Ich war begeistert von seiner variantenreichen und zugleich druckvollen Spielweise. Achtet mal auf die die häufigen Wechsel beim Tempo und Rhythmus! Das ist sehr beachtlich und die Songs erlauben Rob immer wieder, es auch in schnellen Passagen granatenmäßig krachen zu lassen. Dies kann man auch beim Track „When The Tridents Fall“ bewundern, der zwischen hochmelodischen Refrains und rasenden Ausbrüchen alterniert, denen sich ebenfalls die Gitarren anpassen und sogar einen Flair von Black Metal versprühen.

„The Lost Compass“ als letzter Song macht dabei ebenso keine Ausnahme. Ein episches Finale, dass keine Wünsche offen lässt und traumhafte Hooklines aufweist. Der hochmelodische Chorus ist zum Niederknien.Das Zusammenspiel der beiden Sänger ist wieder und wieder bemerkenswert.

Fazit

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS schmettern den Dreizack mit aller Gewalt in die Erde und lassen die Welt, einem gewaltigen Seebeben gleich, erzittern. „3.6.2.4“ ist ein mächtiges kolossales Album, dass Euch garantiert beindrucken wird . Es ist mit so viel Kunstfertigkeit erschaffen worden, so dass es total ausgereift wirkt. Es gibt auf dem Album keine Ausfälle, nur Monstertracks.

Stellt sich nun die Frage nach der punktemäßigen Bewertung. Ein Debütalbum mit 10 Punkten? Geht so was überhaupt? Kann man so einen Katapultstart hinlegen? Ja, kann man! GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS haben es mit ihrem Kracheralbum „3.6.2.4“ bewiesen. Das hat schlussendlich natürlich auch etwas damit zu tun, dass sich bei GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS professionelle Musiker mit langjähriger Erfahrung zusammengefunden haben, um dieses fantastische Projekt auf die Beine zu stellen. Wer auf modernen melodischen hochatmosphärischen Death-Metal mit symphonischer Prägung und einem Flair von Black-Metal steht, der muss dieses Album haben. Werdet ein Geist von Atlantis!

You can already tell by the categorisation that GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS (Facebook ) unites a lot in their music. Their debut album with the mysterious title „3.6.2.4“ will be released on 26.03.2021. The content of the album interweaves the mythology around the legendary city of Atlantis with references to current times, fictional events and wants to take the listener on a fantastic journey. The title „3.6.2.4“ doesn’t explain itself at first and the band doesn’t help either, because they deliberately call for guesswork regarding the title of the album.

Bombast

The first song „The Third Pillar“ was released as the first single. And they did exactly the right thing with it. The song is brilliant! The melodic death metal is spiced up symphonically and creates a monumental sound. This epic component gets an extra boost from the sacred majestic chorus.

Despite all the harshness, GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS put a lot of emphasis on harmonies and a portion of theatricality. Listen and see for yourself.

Poseidon

as the mighty god of the sea would be delighted with this bombastic sound, bursting with power and conveying a heroic feeling through and through. The sound is like an erupting subterranean volcano that makes the sea tremble and brings tidal waves to life. „Poseidon’s Bow“ is a fitting example of this, captivating with its immense presence and power. This song is a veritable cornucopia of musical impressions, including an outstanding guitar solo. The chorus with the two voices is also completely convincing. Singer Phil Primmer shouts darkly aggressive, whereas Colin Parks intersperses clean vocal lines again and again. This fits the musical style very well, especially because the concept does not always follow a certain scheme, but is individually adapted to serve the songs and their charisma. This creates

tension and excitement

One is literally overwhelmed by the powerful soundscape. GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS create rich soundscapes like a pompous cinema blockbuster. Everything seems well thought out and homogeneous. It is an interesting mixture with which GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have found their own niche in my opinion. Elements of the sound can be found here and there in other bands, but united in this form I don’t know any other band at the moment that practices this. (If you look for comparisons, you could cite DIMMU BORGIR or EX DEO.).

No weakness

It’s hard to pick out individual songs and single them out, because they are all high-quality songs that lack nothing. Take, for example, the quiet interlude with clean vocals in the song „Gardens Of Athena“! Wow, what a voice! In all the violence, Colin shines with a soulful interlude, creating a quite magical atmosphere. Outstanding!

In all the opulent performance, drummer Rob Garner in particular stood out to me personally. He really shows an extraordinary performance in my opinion. I was thrilled by his varied and at the same time powerful playing. Really strong! Pay attention to the frequent changes in tempo and rhythm! This is very remarkable and the songs allow Rob to let it rip again and again, even in fast passages. This can also be admired on the track „When The Tridents Fall“, which alternates between highly melodic choruses and frenzied outbursts to which the guitars also adapt and even exude a flair of black metal.

„The Lost Compass“ as the last song is no exception. An epic finale that leaves nothing to be desired and features dreamlike hooklines. The highly melodic chorus is to die for. The interplay between the two singers is remarkable again and again.

Result

GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS smash the trident into the earth with all their might and make the world tremble like a mighty seaquake. „3.6.2.4“ is a mighty colossal album that is guaranteed to impress you. It has been created with so much artistry that it seems totally mature. There are only monster tracks!

The question now is how to score it. A debut album with 10 points? Is that even possible? Can GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS get off to such a catapult start? Yes, they can! GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS have proven it with their smash album „3.6.2.4“. Ultimately, of course, this also has something to do with the fact that GHOSTS OF ATLANTIS are professional musicians with many years of experience who have come together to put this fantastic project together.
