SIDUS ATRUM (Facebook) wurde Ende 2015 in Kiew von der Komponistin Yulia Lykhotvor gegründet, die bis 2022 das einzige Mitglied des Projekts war. Nach erfolgreicher Zusammenarbeit mit Serhii Lykhotvor als Gastmusiker trat er 2022 Sidus Atrum als festes Bandmitglied bei. Der erste von Sidus Atrum als Band veröffentlichte Song war die Single „Сни Крізь Століття (Dreams Through Centuries)“.

Derzeit hat die Band ihr drittes Album „Розірване Небо (Torn Sky)“ aufgenommen, dessen Hauptthema der Krieg ist, die durch ihn zerstörten Leben und Träume, aber auch mit der Hoffnung auf den Sieg des Lebens. Es spiegelt die Emotionen, Erfahrungen und Gedanken der Bandmitglieder in den letzten zwei Jahren seit dem Beginn der umfassenden Invasion in der Ukraine wider.

Das Album beginnt sofort mit dem Titeltrack „Розірване небо (Torn Sky)“. Explosionen und Bombenalarm bilden das Intro dieses Songs. Danach beginnt auch umgehend der musikalische Angriff. Die Stimme von Sängerin Yulia entfesselt hier eine ganz besonders fiese wütende Note. Das muss mal gesagt werden. Damit transportiert sie hervorragend die inhaltlichen Thematik und potenziert die Wirkung der Musik mit ihrer unheimlich eindringlichen Stimme. Es finden sich auch atmosphärische Elemente. So spielt man mit mystischen schwermütigen Synhties und fährt auch mal im ruhigeren Fahrwasser. So entsteht eine fesselnde Stimmung.

Jetzt komme ich zu dem Song, der mich zu dieser Band geführt hat. Es handelt sich um den zweiten Track „Коли земля кричала (When The Earth Cried Out)“. Zunächst muss ich mal sagen, dass mich die visuelle Umsetzung des Videos im Zusammenhang mit dem Song sehr berührt hat. Ja…. Dies kann man wohl so sagen. Viele mögen Black Metal nicht als emotionale Musik bezeichnen. Dem möchte ich auf jeden Fall widersprechen, denn ich habe mittlerweile so viele Bands und Musiker gehört, die in dieser extremen Form der Musik unheimlich viel Emotionen vermitteln können. Wut, Verzweiflung, Traurigkeit und viel Schmerz spüre ich in diesem Song, der mit krasser Vehemenz und viel melodischen Untermalungen ein sehr einschneidendes intensives visuelles und auditives Erlebnis liefert.

Beim Song „Сталеві Янголи (Angels Of Steel)“ geht man die Sache noch melodischer an. Es ist ein weiterer verdammt starker Track, der sich zunächst sehr mysteriös in Szene setzt. Mit düsteren melancholischen Synthies webt man erst einmal einen atmosphärischen Kokon. Langsam baut sich der Song auf und entlädt sich schließlich mit voller Kraft. Der Refrain geht wirklich durch und durch und erreicht epische Ausmaße. Der Song spielt mit Gegensätzen, denn er greift das anfängliche Thema des Songs auf und bindet immer wieder stimmungsschwangere geruhsame Phasen ein. Der Text für den Song „Сталеві Янголи (Angels Of Steel)“ wurde von Sandra Konopatska geschrieben.

Es gibt sogar mit „Чи Поглине Нас Темрява? (Will Darkness Swallow Us?)“ einen instrumentalen Track zu genießen. Obwohl ich eigentlich kein großer Fan von reinen Instrumentaltracks bin, aber dieser hier passt super in das Gesamtkonzept und es ist quasi ein längeres Intro für das große Finale!

„Пульс Життя (Puls Of Life)“ ist das Finale des Albums. Der Song hat eine Spielzeit von fast 10 Minuten. Mit traurig melancholischer Stimmung erklingen tatsächlich überraschenderweise cleane Vocals. Damit hätte ich nicht gerechnet, aber ich finde es durchaus positiv, weil es eine ganz spezielle Stimmung erzeugt. Erwartungsgemäß dürfen wir uns auch hier an den martialischen Momenten erfreuen, die in voller Vehemenz geschmettert werden. Aber dieser gewaltige Track ist voll von atmosphärischen Zwischenspielen und Elementen und baut sich zu einem ergreifenden epischen Finale auf. Wahnsinn!

Fazit

SIDUS ATRUM verkörpern mit dem Album „Torn Sky“ alle Grausamkeit und das Leid, die ein Krieg mit sich bringt. Diese Form der extremen musikalischen Darstellung ist das perfekte Mittel, um dieses entsetzliche Thema umzusetzen. Es ist ein Album mit eindrucksvollen und durchdringenden Songs, die den Hörer bewegen und unweigerlich erbarmungslos in die dunkle Hölle zieht, aus der das Album entstanden ist. Verschließt nicht eure Augen und Ohren und traut euch diese dunkle Erfahrung zu erleben.

After a successful collaboration with Serhii Lykhotvor as a guest musician, he joined Sidus Atrum as a permanent band member in 2022. The first song released by Sidus Atrum as a band was the single „Сни Крізь Столітття (Dreams Through Centuries)“.

Currently, the band has recorded their third album „Розірване Небо (Torn Sky)“, whose main theme is war, the lives and dreams destroyed by it, but also with the hope for the victory of life. It reflects the emotions, experiences and thoughts of the band members over the last two years since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The album begins directly with the title track „Розірване небо (Torn Sky)“. Explosions and bomb alarms form the intro to this song. The musical attack then begins immediately. The voice of singer Yulia unleashes a particularly nasty, angry note here. It has to be said that she conveys the subject matter excellently and intensifies the effect of the music with her incredibly haunting voice. There are also atmospheric elements. They play with mystical, melancholy synhties and sometimes sail in calmer waters. This creates a captivating atmosphere.

Now I come to the song that led me to this band. It’s the second track „Коли земля кричала (When The Earth Was Screaming)“. First of all, I have to say that the visual realization of the video in connection with the song really touched me. Yes…. I guess you could say that. Many people don’t like to call black metal emotional music. I would definitely disagree with that, because I’ve heard so many bands and musicians who can convey an incredible amount of emotion in this extreme form of music. I can feel anger, despair, sadness and a lot of pain in this song, which delivers a very incisive, intense visual and auditory experience with blatant vehemence and a lot of melodic background music.

The song „Сталеві Янголи (Angels Of Steel)“ takes an even more melodic approach. It’s another damn strong track that initially sets the scene very mysteriously. Dark, melancholy synths are used to weave an atmospheric cocoon. The song slowly builds up and finally unloads with full force. The chorus really goes through and through and reaches epic proportions. The song plays with contrasts, as it picks up on the initial theme of the song and repeatedly incorporates moody, calm phases. The lyrics for the song „Сталеві Янголи (Angels Of Steel)“ were written by Sandra Konopatska.

There is also an instrumental track with „Чи Поглине Нас Темрява? (Will Darkness Swallow Us?)“. Although I’m not really a big fan of pure instrumental tracks, this one fits perfectly into the overall concept and it’s like a longer intro for the grand finale!

„Пульс Житття (Puls Of Life)“ is the album’s finale. The song has a playing time of almost 10 minutes. Surprisingly, clean vocals are actually heard in a sad, melancholy mood. I wouldn’t have expected that, but I think it’s quite positive because it creates a very special mood. As expected, we can also enjoy the brutal moments here, which are belted out with full vehemence. But this powerful track is full of atmospheric interludes and elements and builds up to a gripping epic finale. Madness!

Conclusion

With their album „Torn Sky“, SIDUS ATRUM embody all the cruelty and suffering that war brings with it. This form of extreme musical representation is the perfect way to convey this horrific theme. It is an album of powerful and disturbing songs that move the listener and inevitably draw them mercilessly into the dark hell from which the album was born. Don’t close your eyes and ears and dare to live this dark experience.
