‚De Var Engang‘ heißt übersetzt ‚Es war einmal..‘. TROLD bieten eine Märchenstunde der anderen Art. Ausnahmsweise möchte ich hier mal den wie ich finde sehr schönen Pressetext zitiere:

Es war einmal eine Bande von Trollen aus dem dunklen Norden. Tief in den Höhlen der Wälder
Wälder feierten sie die ganze Nacht lang zu ihren eigenen Flöten-, Mandolinen- und Akkordeonklängen. Sie umgaben sich meist mit Fleischkeulen und Metkrügen, aber sie mochten auch die eine oder andere Prinzessin oder zwei. Obwohl sie ein paar faule Säcke waren, reisten sie durch das ganze Königreich, um ihre trollige Musik für die guten Leute zu spielen. Und schließlich, nach unzähligen Beutezügen, erzählten sie ihre Abenteuer, Abenteuer, Missgeschicke und andere Märchen nun ihr Debütalbum „Der Var Engang…“ geworden.

Pressetext über das Label Mighty Music

Wenn ich musikalisch an Trolle denke, kommt mir immer die Band FINNTROLL in den Sinn. Soundtechnisch geht es bei TROLD in eine ähnlich harte Richtung.

Nach dem Intro ‚De Var Engang‘ stürmt die Trollhorde ohne Aufwärmprogramm mit Vollgas zum Beutezug. Es werden keine Gefangenen gemacht. Mein lieber Scholli… Das nenne ich mal ne Sause. Es fliegen die Fetzen. Die fiesen extremen Vocals von Sänger Astór Palsson prägen den Sound. Wow! Da haben mich TROLD einfach mal überrannt und platt gemacht!

Zum Glück kann ich mich beim nächsten Track ‚Udyrets Grab‘ ein wenig erholen. Die TROLD-Horde nimmt ein wenig Fahrt raus und lässt einen beschwingten melodischen Hammer kreisen. Der Folklorepart klingt ganz wunderbar und fügt sich einwandfrei ein.

Viel Humor

Also man merkt schon, dass TROLD Wert auf gute Laune und eine Menge Humor legen. Der nächste Track ‚Roveren‘ bringt das sehr gut zum Ausdruck. Die Einleitung des Songs ist skuril und leitet die Party skuril und amüsant ein. Sodann darf geschunkelt und die Methörner gehoben werden. Und in die Chöre kann man wunderbar mit einsteigen. Was will man mehr, um in gute Stimmung zu gelangen und nebenbei noch die Nackenmuskelatur zu stärken.

TROLD geizen nicht mit fabelhaften Melodien, was der Song ‚Sensommerballett‘ eindrucksvoll zur Schau stellt. Dabei macht der Chorus eine besonders starke Figur und ist das Sahnehäubchen. Da lohnt es sich glatt ein paar Worte dänisch zu lernen, um dort mitsingen zu können. Grandios!

Fazit

TROLD zeigen mit ‚De Var Engang‘ eindrucksvoll wie man eine zünftige Trollparty feiert. Das Album macht Stimmung und fabriziert mit viel Humor gute Laune. Der authentische Folk ist genauso essentieller Bestandteil wie die skrupellose Vehemenz gepaart mit eingängigen tragenden Melodien. Die Verbindung zwischen fiesen Tönen und mitreißenden Rhythmen ist super gelungen.

‚De Var Engang‘ translates as ‚Once upon a time…‘. TROLD offer a fairy tale stories of a different kind. As an exception, I would like to quote the press text here, which I think is very nice:

Once upon a time, there was a bunch of trolls from the dark north. Deep in the caves of the woods, they partied all night long to their own tunes of flutes, mandolins and accordions. They mostly surrounded themselves with clubs of meat and mugs of mead, but also liked a princess or two. Although they were some lazy bastards, they still traveled the vast kingdom to play their trollish music for the good folks. And finally, after countless raids, their tales of adventure, misadventure and other fairy tales have now become their debut record ‚Der Var Engang…‘.

When I think of Trolls musically, the band FINNTROLL always comes to mind. Sound-wise, TROLD goes in a similarly hard direction.

After the intro ‚De Var Engang‘ the troll horde storms full throttle to the foray. No prisoners are taken. WOW!… That’s what I call a blowout. It goes of like hell! The nasty extreme vocals of singer Astór Palsson characterize the sound. Wow! TROLD have simply overrun and flattened me!

Fortunately, I can recover a bit on the next track ‚Udyrets Grab‘. The TROLD horde picks up a little speed and lets an upbeat melodic hammer circle. The folk part sounds quite wonderful and fits in flawlessly.

Much humor

So you can imagine that TROLD attaches importance to good mood and a lot of humor. The next track ‚Roveren‘ expresses this very well. The introduction of the song is whimsical and introduces the party whimsical and amusing. Then it is allowed to sway and raise the methorns. And in the choruses you can join in wonderfully. What more do you want to get into a good mood and incidentally strengthen the neck muscles.

TROLD are not stingy with fabulous melodies, what the song ‚Sensommerballett‘ shows impressively. The chorus makes a particularly strong figure and is the icing on the cake. It’s worth learning a few words of Danish to be able to sing along. Grandios!

Conclusion

TROLD show with ‚De Var Engang‘ spectacular how to celebrate a troll party. This album makes really fun and shines with a lot of humor. The authentic folk is just as essential as the scupulous vehemence paired with catchy supporting melodies. The connection between nasty tones and rousing rhythms is super successful.
