FINSTERFORST – „Jenseits“ Review

Wie lange mussten wir darauf warten! FINSTERFORST (Facebook) haben uns ganz schön lange zappeln lassen, bis nun endlich die Veröffentlichung des neuen Albums „Jenseits“ kurz bevor steht. Die Band ist übrigens vor einigen Monaten mit dem Label AOP Records zusammengekommen.

Auch wenn FINSTERFORST viele gute bis fantastische Alben produziert haben, so ist mir das Album „Rastlos“ das liebste von allen. Dieses maximal epische Album fasziniert mich auch noch nach all den Jahren seiner Geburt.

Jetzt wollen wir uns aber mal dem neuesten Kinde von FINSTERFORST widmen. Sie bezeichnen „Jenseits“ als EP, obwohl die Spielzeit mit knapp unter 40 Minuten länger ist als manche Longplayer, die heutzutage veröffentlicht werden. Und diese 40 Minuten werden von EINEM SONG gefüllt. Ein Song, der in vier Kapiteln präsentiert wird. Das ist allerdings kein Neuland für die Band. Mit überlangen Songspielzeiten kennen sich FINSTERFORST bestens aus. Man erinnere sich an „Ecce Homo“ vom Album „Zerfall“ mit seinen 36 Minuten Spielzeit.

Vorhang auf! Kapitel 1 – FREIHEIT

Diese epische Ausstrahlung in all ihrer Gewaltigkeit, welche FINSTERFORST perfekt beherrschen, wohnt auch diesem Album inne. Und das zeigt sich direkt beim eindrucksvollen Beginn, wo Sänger Olli mit seiner starken Stimme die ersten Textzeilen hinausposaunt, gemischt mit den typischen FINSTERFORST-Chören. Das ist ein Einstieg nach Maß!

Nach einer Minute erschüttern kolossale Klänge die Welt und führen den Song auf die nächste Stufe. Ein wahres Soundbeben entlädt sich und erschafft diese faszinierenden Soundwelten, die ich einfach liebe. Es rüttelt mich, es schüttelt mich, es berührt mich! Selbstverständlich dürfen auch die folkischen Elemente im Sound nicht fehlen. Eine perfekte Eröffnung! Die Vocals sind imponierend, sowohl solo als auch im Chorus. Und besonders positiv finde ich es, dass man die Texte akustisch verstehen kann. Dies ist insbesondere lohnenswert, da hier keine Lyric von der Stange serviert wird. Daher sollte man ruhig mal genauer hinhören, denn hier haben die Texte einen tieferen Sinn.

Kapitel 2 – Dualität

Der epische Fluß nimmt weiter seinen Lauf. Es ist bewundernswert mit wieviel Liebe zum Detail bei der Komposition zu Werke gegangen worden ist. Das imposante Ganze enthält so viele Eindrücke, die einem erst alle klar werden, wenn man sich dieses Album ganz bewußt anhört. Die Songstrukturen sind aufregend. Dies liegt daran, dass FINSTERFORST zwar ein gewisses musikalisches Grundgerüst bzw. ihren charakteristischen Klang haben, aber nicht einer ständigen oder zu langen Wiederholung von Passagen verfallen, wo man Gefahr laufen würde den Hörer zu langweilen und dessen Aufmerksamkeit zu verlieren.

Besonders stark klingen wie eh und je die Blaskapellen, die für eine ganz besonders gewaltige Atmosphäre im Sound sorgen. Dafür bietet der Gesang stets Variationen und instrumental werden laufend neue Erfahrungen geboten ohne vom Weg abzukommen. Als ein Beispiel sei der Part ab der fünften Minute genannt, der einfach nur der Wahnsinn ist. Was für eine dramatische spektakuläre Vorstellung. Aber hört doch selber mal rein!

Kapitel 3 – Reflexionen

Es ist der ruhigste Track in der Geschichte. Die Vehemenz des Sounds nimmt sich zurück und man reduziert den Sound auf das wesentliche. Eine akustische Darbietung, die aber im Gesamtkontext einfach genau reinpasst. Der Song hat irgendwie eine rituelle sakrale Ausstrahlung, die mich erdet und nachdenklich werden lässt. Es gibt mir Gelegenheit runterzukommen, mich zu sammeln, um für das letzte gigantische Kapitel bereit zu sein.

Kapitel 4 – Katharsis

Mit neuen Kräften begeben ich mich in das letzte Kapitel, welches über 15 Minuten in Anspruch nimmt. Und wie das bei Geschichten so ist, wird im letzten Kapitel noch mal alles in die Waagschale geworfen, um ein fulminantes Finale zu bieten. FINSTERFORST beherzigen das und schenken uns ein umwerfendes Finale. Das erste Erstaunen meinerseits kam ab der dritten Minute. Was sind das denn für hammergeile Flötensounds?! Mega! Hört sich so geil an! (Das Thema hätte man für mich sogar noch mehr ausreizen können.) Ab der zehnten Minute gibt man dem Sound die Sporen und der Song gewinnt nochmals an Intensität. In den letzten Minuten schließt man den Kreis zum Beginn der Geschichte.

Fazit

FINSTERFORST machen keine halben Sachen und legen mit „Jenseits“ ein fulminantes Werk vor. Eine spannende Geschichte, die mehr als imposant und bombastisch in Szene gesetzt wurde. FINSTERFORST haben ihren ganz eigenen Sound und bewegen sich auf einem eigenen Level. „Jenseits“ vereint alle Stärken der Band. Der maximal epische Song mit seinen vier Kapiteln ist wohldurchdacht und mit viel Akribie erschaffen worden. FINSTERFORST sind Meister ihres Fachs und sie haben ein Meisterwerk erschaffen. FINSTERFORST ist eine Welt für sich!

How long we had to wait for this! FINSTERFORST (Facebook) have made us dither quite a long time, until now finally the release of the new album „Jenseits“. By the way, the band got together with the label AOP Records a few months ago.

Even though FINSTERFORST have produced many good to fantastic albums, the album „Rastlos“ is my favorite of them all. This maximum epic album fascinates me even after all the years of its birth. But now let’s turn our attention to the newest child of FINSTERFORST. They call „Jenseits“ an EP, although the playing time of just under 40 minutes is longer than some longplayers that are released nowadays. And these 40 minutes are filled by ONE SONG.

One song presented in four chapters. However, this is not new territory for the band. But FINSTERFORST are well acquainted with overlong songplay. One remembers „Ecce Homo“ from the album „Zerfall“ with its 36 minutes playing time.

The beginning – „Kapitel 1- Freiheit“

This epic charisma in all its mightiness, which FINSTERFORST master perfectly, is also inherent in this album. And this shows directly at the impressive beginning, where singer Olli sings the first lyrics with his strong voice, mixed with the typical FINSTERFORST choirs. This is an excellent start!

After a minute, colossal sounds shake the world and take the song to the next level. A true earthquake of sound unloads and creates these fascinating sound worlds that I love. It exites me, it shakes me, it touches me! Of course, the folk elements in the sound must not be missing. The vocals are impressive, both solo and in the chorus. And I find it especially positive to be able to understand the lyrics acoustically. So I can follow the story much better. This is especially worthwhile, because here no silly lyric is served. Therefore, one should quietly listen more closely, because here the lyrics have a deeper meaning. A perfect opening!

„Kapitel 2 – Dualität“

The epic flow continues to take its course. It is admirable with how much attention to detail in the composition has been done. The imposing whole contains so many impressions that only become clear to you when you listen to this album consciously. The song structures are exciting. This is due to the fact that FINSTERFORST have a certain musical framework in their characteristic sound, but do not fall into a constant or too long repetition of passages, where you would run the risk of boring the listener and lose their attention.

Especially strong sound as ever the orchestral horns, which provide a particularly powerful atmosphere in the sound. The vocals always offer variations and instrumentally are constantly offered new experiences without straying from the path. As an example, the part from the fifth minute onwards is simply insane. What a dramatic spectacular performance. But listen for yourself!

„Kapitel 3 – Reflexionen“

It is the quietest track in the story. The vehemence of the sound takes back and you reduce the sound to the essential. An acoustic performance, but one that just fits right in the overall context. The song somehow has a ritualistic sacred vibe that grounds me and makes me reflect. It gives me a chance to come down, to collect myself, to be ready for the last gigantic chapter.

„Kapitel 4 – Katharsis“

With new strength, I enter the last chapter, which takes over 15 minutes. And as it is with great stories, the last chapter gives you highly entertainment. FINSTERFORST take this to heart and give us a stunning finale. The first astonishment on my part came from the third minute. This awesome sounds of a flute! Cool in any case! From the tenth minute, the sound get faster and gains even more intensity. In the last minutes they close the circle to the beginning of the story.

Conclusion

FINSTERFORST do not do things by halves and present a brilliant work with „Jenseits“. An exciting story, which was more than imposing and bombastic staged. FINSTERFORST have their very own unique sound. „Jenseits“ combines all the strengths of the band.The maximum epic song with its four chapters is well thought out and created with a lot of meticulousness. FINSTERFORST are masters of their craft and they have created a masterpiece. FINSTERFORST is a world of its own!
