KINGSMEN „Bones Don’t Lie“ Review

Ich hatte mit den KINGSMEN bereits 2020 das Vergnügen, als ich ihr Debütalbum „Revenge. Forgiveness, Recovery“ veröffentlicht haben. Mein damaliges Fazit war sehr postitiv. Druckvoller Metalcore, der die Melodien nicht außer Acht lässt und mit kraftstrotzendem Gesang glänzt. Sänger Tanner Guimond hat mich damals schon sehr überzeugt, da er auch im cleanen Stimmbereich super klingt. Das sorgte schon beim Debüt für tolle Momente. Nun also das neue Album „Bones Don’t Lie“, welches nun am 31.03.2023 über Sharp Tone Records veröffentlicht wird.

In Bones Don’t Lie geht es um Identität und Selbstfindung. Das Album beschreibt die Gedanken von jemandem, dem Unrecht widerfahren ist, der Unrecht getan hat und es besser machen will. Menschen versuchen oft, ihre Vergangenheit zu begraben, um eine bessere Zukunft zu haben. Das alte Sprichwort „Welche Leichen hast du im Keller?“ hat uns geholfen, den Begriff „Bones Don’t Lie“ zu prägen. Wir sind der Meinung, dass man zu seinen Taten und seinem Verhalten stehen muss, um zu zeigen, wer man wirklich ist und woher man kommt, denn das ist der beste Maßstab für den Charakter.

Das vorherige Album war schon von hoher Qualität und hatte mich begeistert. Die ungestüme Härte ist nun zurückgetreten, um mehr Platz für Melodien und andere coole Sachen zu schaffen. Der Stil hat sich daher ein wenig geändert. Insgesamt klingt das Album viel moderner und die Songs sind eingängiger geworden. Um den Unterschied deutlich zu machen, präsentierne wir hier noch mal den Song „Oppressor“ des Debütalbums „Revenge. Forgiveness, Recovery“

Sänger Tanner Guimond bekommt nun mehr Raum für seine hervorragenden cleanen Vocals. Mit der ersten Single „Trial By Fire“ gab es damals schon den ersten Vorgeschmack. Nun stehe ich solchen Entwicklungen nicht immer positiv gegenüber und muss dabei immer an ‚Five Finger Death Punch‘ denken, die mir einfach grundsätzlich zu soft geworden und für mich im Meer so vieler genialer Bands abgesoffen sind. Doch KINGSMEN umschiffen diese Klippen geschickt.

Denn es gibt auch richtig harte Banger

Mit Songs wie „Catalyst“ kommen wieder Erinnerungen an das Debütalbum hoch. Der Song haut volle Kanne rein und tritt dabei auch ordentlich auf das Gaspedal. KINGSMEN schaffen es sogar mit recht simpel konstruierten Songs wie dem industrial angehauchten „Prayer Man“ oder dem düsteren Brecher „Diamondize“ zu unterhalten.

Ausgewogene Mischung

„No Road Home“ ist eine lässige Nummer, aber auch eine völlige Ausnahme auf dem Album, denn hier hört man keine Riffs. Hört sich ganz cool an, nutzt sich aber auch schnell ab. Das balladeske „Dead Letters“ ist das schon spannender und kann sogar mit einem Arschtrittfinale glänzen. Mit solchen Songs hätte ich jedoch nach dem harten Debütalbum überhaupt nicht gerechnet. Und im Grunde finde ich solche Entwicklungen meistens nicht sehr positiv. Zum Glück wird es aber insgesamt nicht so soft.

Dann begeistern Songs, die brutale Härte und fantastische Hooks vereinen. Die melodischeren kraftvollen Songs wie „Trial By Fire“ und „Memory“ verwöhnen mit göttlichen Gesangslinien, die schon epische Züge erreichen. „Bones Don’t Lie“ hat einen Monster-Groove mit starken Riffs und einem Bass, der einem eine Herzmassage verpasst. „Bitter Half“ prügelt auf dich ein und verwöhnt dich dann mit einem schönen Refrain.

Fazit

KINGSMEN können mit ihrem neuen Album „Bones Don’t Lie“ völlig überzeugen. Es bietet eine ausgewogene Mischung, die das ungeheure Potential und die Bandbreite dieser Band aufzeigt. KINGSMEN sind eine famose Band! Vor allem Tanner Guimond ist zweifellos ein fantastischer Sänger, der hier mit einer eindrucksvollen Performance begeistert. Die Härte wird nur etwas dosierter präsentiert und melodischen cleanen Gesangslinien mehr Raum gegeben. Dies dürfte allerdings vielleicht nicht jedem Fan des ersten Albums gefallen. Doch die moderneren Ansätze wissen ebenfalls zu gefallen. Aber im Gesamtergebnis hätte ich mir trotzdem ein wenig mehr von der dunklen aggressive Härte des Debütalbums gewünscht.

I already had the pleasure with the KINGSMEN in 2020, when I saw their debut album „Revenge. Forgiveness, Recovery“ was released. My conclusion at that time was very postitive. Punchy metalcore that doesn’t disregard melodies and shines with powerhouse vocals. Singer Tanner Guimond has convinced me at that time already very much, because he sounds super also in the clean voice range. This already provided for great moments on the debut. Now the new album „Bones Don’t Lie“, which will be released on 31.03.2023 via Sharp Tone Records.

Comment of the band about the album:

Bones Don’t Lie is about identity and self discovery. The album depicts the thoughts of someone who has been wronged, done wrong and wants to do better. People often try and bury their past in order to pursue a better future. The old adage, ‘what skeletons are in your closet?’, helped us coin the term Bones Don’t Lie. It’s our belief that you need to own up to what you’ve done and the ways that you have been, to show who you really are and where you come from because this is the greatest measure of character.

The previous album was already of high quality and had thrilled me. The impetuous harshness has now receded to make more room for melodies and other cool stuff. The style has therefore changed a bit. Overall, the album sounds much more modern and the songs have become catchier. To make the difference clear, we present here again the song „Oppressor“ from the debut album „Revenge. Forgiveness, Recovery“.

Singer Tanner Guimond now gets more space for his excellent clean vocals. With the first single „Trial By Fire“ there was already the first foretaste. Now I’m not always positive about such developments and always have to think of ‚Five Finger Death Punch‘, who have become just basically too soft for me and sunk in the sea of so many brilliant bands. But KINGSMEN skilfully circumnavigate these cliffs.

Because there are also really hard bangers

Songs like „Catalyst“ bring back memories of the debut album. The song hits the ground running and puts the pedal to the metal. KINGSMEN even manage to entertain with quite simply constructed songs like the industrial „Prayer Man“ or the dark breaker „Diamondize“.

Balanced mixture

„No Road Home“ is a casual number, but also a complete exception on the album, because you don’t hear any riffs here. Sounds quite cool, but also wears out after some spins. The balladic „Dead Letters“ is more exciting and can even shine with an ass-kicking finale. However, I would not have expected such songs at all after the hard debut album. And basically I usually don’t find such developments very positive. Fortunately, it doesn’t get so soft overall, though.

Then songs that combine brutal hardness and fantastic hooks inspire. The more melodic powerful songs like „Trial By Fire“ and „Memory“ indulge with divine vocal lines that already reach epic features. „Bones Don’t Lie“ has a monster groove with strong riffs and a bass that gives you a heart massage. „Bitter Half“ beats you up and then treats you to a beautiful chorus.

Conclusion

KINGSMEN can completely convince with their new album „Bones Don’t Lie“. It offers a balanced mixture that shows the tremendous potential and range of this band. KINGSMEN are a fabulous band! Especially Tanner Guimond is undoubtedly a fantastic singer, who inspires here with an impressive performance. The heaviness is presented only a little more dosed and melodic clean vocal lines are given more space. However, this may not please every fan of the first album. But the more modern approaches also know how to please. In the overall result I personally would have liked a little more of the dark aggressive hardness of the debut album.
